Just got the GT 10.1 2 days ago, have been doing a lot of reading on this forum. I have a couple questions that I think some f you would have quick answers.
1. About ADW launcher EX, it appears many recommend this as a replacement the stock home screen. My question is, what would happen to the stock home screen (existing icons, widegets) after ADW is installed? What happens when you uninstall ADW?
2. About rooting, this is a tough one, after reading hours on this forum and other website. There seemed to be many different guides out there, linking different files needed to be downloaded and executed. Also, it's not clear which is applicable to the latest firmwire with touchwiz and honeycomb 3.1.
I only want to root to get access to /system/app and install some widgets. That is, not interested in custom rom. In fact I want to keep mine as stock as possible, so I won't have problem with the next OTA firmware update.
Any suggestions guys?
1. if you uninstall adw it will just revert back to stock. you can have both and switch from time to time by just doing "clear defaults" on the "launch by default" in the app settings.
2. first post in the development area by Lorddeff07 is updated regularly. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1171089
Do not have any worries about adw. You don't even have to set adw as your default launcher, so that everytime you hit the home key you will be given the option of which launcher you want to use. I personally could never go back to stock launcher after adw.
As far as rooting, I would read more about it and watch some YouTube videos before you attempt that. If your apprehensive to something like a launcher I don't think your ready to be messing around with rooting the tab just yet. I am debating to root myself just so I can have a black taskbar on touchwiz. If it wasn't for the grey taskbar I don't think I ever would really need to root.

I've looked thru the forums and found similar queries, but I haven't found any success yet, so this seemed like my only recourse. All I want to do is change my default home screen. I tried using the SGS Screen Changer, but couldn't root my phone because there was never any option to apply the update in recovery mode. I then tried to just switch to LauncherPro, but for some reason if I use that launcher I don't have access to all my Samsung widgets like Feeds & Updates. I had a similar issue w/ the ADW launcher. If someone could direct me as to what I'm doing wrong and how to do it correctly, I would greatly appreciate it.

I suppose we should back up a step. The two methods I am aware of would either be SGS Screen Changer or installing the GTG Revamped Launcher from within SGS Tools. Both are going to require root. There isn't a way to do what you ask that I am aware of that does not require root access.
Rooting the phone is stupid simple, depending on which firmware you are currently running. So, check out SuperOneClick root at the top of the Vibrant Bible thread...linked below in my sig.

You cannot use your samsung widgets with any other launcher OTHER than TW launcher. Its the same with Sense UI and the pro widgets that launcher pro provides. They are directly tied in with the launcher app so your just out of luck I guess unless your willing to give them up.
So I got the SuperOneClick and it seems to have successfully rooted my phone. I tried using the SGS Screen changer and it asked for su permission then said it worked and I just needed to reboot. But after I rebooted the home page still hadn't changed. So just to make sure I went and d/led the official busybox app and installed that. Again I tried the SGS Screen changer and again it was still the same after I rebooted. I don't want to abandon the TWLauncher, so is there something I'm doing to keep the screen changer from working?
Just use touchwiz gtg mod version. All you have to do is replace the stock twiz in file explorer

I don't think anyone has found a way to get a stock TWiz to accept a default home change in the Vibrant.

Hello.
Can someone tell how or if there's any app, to set the middle screen as home screen?
It's only available as a mod with root at the moment. If you want to to that, check the Dev forum.
Just do a search here and you will come up with several threads, one will have step by step instructions. You must have root.
Use Launcher pro
Yeah Launcher Pro you can have any homescreen
yes I know but with launcher pro I lose touchwiz :\ I'll do the root...
Thank you for the responses
Hi there guys!
Since I'm new to this forum and cannot publish any post in the Development section, i have to take my issues with you guys here hoping for someone helping me out!
Problem:
I can't move around things on my homescreens either it is a widget nor an app. It seems like everything is settled there and when I try to move them around, they go back to where they were in the first place.
Anyone familiar with this?
Ps. This happened me after the update from TW 0007 to TW 007.1 Stock Kernel
DS.
Clear Dara and Cache of Sony Ericsson Home App and try again. Also check if the Home App has the right permissions set.
come come, such an easy answer here.. i guess you use the adw launcher and locked your home screen (perhaps other launchers have this option as well)
on your home screen press the menu button and 6 icons appear.. pick the one which will probably sort out you're problem, and your done!
What launcher are you actually using?
Using "Xperia TW" the stock theme and no third-party app like ADW or LP+.
I cleared cache and data! Problem solved
I just have to "pimp" my homescreens once more since it went back to stock-.-
The zeam launcher is pretty nice, except when i hit the n button and hit home, it doesnt go back to the zeam launcher. I am about to root a nook for a friend who almost took it back because she couldnt do anything on it, so i offered to root it for her. Im trying to make it as easy to use as possible, and i dont like the idea of her having to search everytime to get back to the zeam launcher. Whats a better launcher that has less steps to use? thanks
1) Questions go in the Q&A forum.
2) Assuming you're taking about the stock OS (you didn't say), that is not an issue with the launcher. It sounds like you need to install Homecatcher (you'll need to search).

If you want to make it as easy to use as possible, put CM7 on it.
The amount of workaround stuff you have to do with the stock OS to be able to do more stuff is overwhelming for a lot of people.

Zeam launcher can only run after the device is rooter.
You can install Homecatcher, which intercepts the home button and gives you an option to go to the default Nook launcher, or an alternate launcher.
I prefer and use Go Launcher, creating a shortcut for the default Nook ebook reader app.
I tried it out last night. I deleted it. Don't like it at all
What about GO Launcher?
I'm totally new to Android, with the Note being my first device on this side of the line. I have used an iPhone for 4 years, but I couldn't resist this sexy screen and the ability to ditch carrying a phone, iPad, and Moleskine notebook around all the time. I am loving it so far, but I am tired of not having ICS.
Anyway, I want to flash CM9's unofficial release, but I have a couple reservations. I've read how to do it, have ROM Manager, CWM, and all that. I'm already rooted, etc.
So. My question is this: I am already using ADW EX to theme my Gingerbread and have my widgets set up like I want. Is there a way after flashing the CM9 ROM to restore the settings and themes I already spent the time to set up? Through Titanium Backup, maybe?
Or am I going to be reworking settings and layouts for a while?
Thanks a lot, folks.

Actually, either CM9 or OnlyOne. I had forgotten CM9 didn't have the S-Pen premium suite yet.

Welcome aboard my friend! & about your little concern if i believe ADW EX should have a back & restore option for your theme/layout that you already have. Just make sure when it does back it up you move it too your external_sd card that way it wont be deleted if anything were too go wrong. Oh and just like you said use titanium back up and back yo **** up! As sad as this may sound I just recently learned how to utilize TB (titanium backup) the right way lmao xD But yeah.. do what i said and you'll be just fine ill try and post a link or something.
Here are a few links i found useful:
-Back up Multiple ADW Ex configs
http://forums.androidcentral.com/wa...s/121392-back-up-multiple-adw-ex-configs.html < Not so sure about this one but heres a tip: (adw & adw ex) use a different xml file for backup so the conversion from coming back from a back up of ADW to ADW EX might be challenging. I personally haven't tried this even though i do own ADW EX but i prefer Go launcher.
and check this out For sure you'll be pleased!!
