Hot Temp via 4G - HTC EVO 3D

Hi, how many folks out there that use 4G have noticed their EVO 3D getting really hot. Mine seems fine, however my wife's phone always gets really hot. I have held it and its too hot. Just want to know if she has a defective phone or if its another issue. She has had her phone replaced already and she is not in the mood to go and get it replaced yet again. I don't blame her either.
Thanks

not sure what the issue could be...but if you really want 4G then you should probably replace it again. but if u don't really use 4G that much, then I don't think there's any point.

How hot is it getting? You can use battery monitor widget to check the temp. Mine will heat up a bit if I have 4G on and am using a lot of data, but never gets real hot, about 38-39c.

[Q] Google Navigation heating phone

So like with the original EVO, I used it to navigate with Google Navigation. The phone heated up sometimes but not by much. However, the EVO 3D seems to heat up the point of almost burning at the touch. Anyone else get this?
Some of them overheat. My first one didn't, my 2nd one did, my current one doesn't. My girlfriends first one did her current one doesn't. Her's was exchanged specifically because of it getting too hot. Mine had screen issues.
You should exchange it.
Well when you use navigation you are using the GPS, data to keep the map current, display to show it all. All of these things cause the phone to heat. If you have it charging while navigating it will heat more. Heat is a totally normal product of hardware doing its job.
Now, if it gets burning hot, melts your components, anything like that, there is call for alarm.

Yeah, well whenever im using my GPS im usually not using it as a phone. But when I do happen to get a phone call, its like putting a hot coal against my face X.x.
I mean it's hotter than a laptop would be if it was running full on. Maybe I will exchange it...I don't want there to be problems in the future.

What temperature does it get to? Was it charging while using it? Was the sun on it at all? Was the air on in your car, or was it hot? All of those things can.play a role as well, especially while using gps.

[Q] Top half of phone gets extremely hot.

Anyone experience this? I noticed when my phone is plugged in and i play a game for 5 mins the top half of my phone gets to 47-48 degrees... Almost too hot to hold. When I leave it alone it stays about 10 degrees cooler. Anyone know what might be causing this?

Not sure what might be causing it but mine does the same. It's probably normal.
There are several threads discussing this. Please search first.

The current to your phone and the addition of you doing something causes the processor to get hot. That's it.
Are you using the flip case from Samsung?

I didnt do anything to the phone.. This was a replacement from my original one that was randomly rebooting and freezing.. Im just worried i might damage the internals.. Anyways i called rogers for another replacement. They are sending it as soon as i return my original

Thanks for bringing this up, it's quite relevant to my interests.
Mine also gets hot. I recently upgraded my folks' phones to ATT Galaxy S II's (non Skyrocket) and they both get very hot when surfing on battery power via data. My battery monitor widget said 103'F at one point.
My Note also feels a little laggy (not hugely so) and has crashed a couple of times. The battery life is atrocious (coming from an iPhone 4)... I'm considering exchanging it at ATT as I'm still well within my 30 days. Rooting and freezing all the usual suspect apps hasn't helped.

Whats weird is that my original one didnt get hot but was laggy and freezing up. This ones the exact opposite.. Fast as hell and hot. Now i did a couple tests and the only difference was that the white on my current phone had a slight yellowish tint on the original. Battery life i get 12-17 hours on both.

On a sidenote just took my phone out of my pocket and while writing the last post phone got to 37 degrees and this is while it was off the charger... Anyways once Rogers recieves my original note they will send me a replacement to my replacement lol.. Anyone know if i get three lemons would I be entitled to a new unit? I know carriers used to do that.

Depending on the task mine got hot anywhere between 5 or 10 mins
Sent from my SGH-I717R using XDA
My first note would her extremely hot between 117f and 130f while idle on a charger from the top half up. Used a thermal temp sensor from my liquid cooling to measure temp. According to a friend of mine manager at an att, said the heat problem is the biggest for return and that from what he's found out talking a Sammy rep that the cpu and memory in some units through shipping and handling have been loosened from their respective heat transfer system.
So basically manufacture defect and if it gets hot replace it. It'll hurt the internals.

feel bad for the ones having all the problems.....its hard for me to get my phone to even reach 40C and thats while watching movies and pausing and making calls. the playing a game. i have to do ALOT to get it that hot.
i have noticed the pocket thing though, if i keep it in my jacket pocket it seem to get hotter faster even though i am not doing anything on it at all. but it goes right back down again after i pull it out for about 3 min.
^^ thats what she said to that last sentence lol

Is there any overheating issue in S3?

Guys, I am planning to buy a Galaxy S3 but a friend of mine who owned an s3 told me that it generates a lot of amount of heat.. Can anyone please confirm or deny the issue?
Thanks!
Deny.
jje
but if your s3 is placed in the sun it is getting very hot and it will reboot by itself.
happend to me. i had to pull out the battery to stop the re-re-reboot process
I have yet to feel any significant heat on the S3, even while charging. My S2 on the other hand would get warm frequently but it never bothered me.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
It overheats with the overheat app it comes with. I managed to bake a potato in one full charge.
Compared to my old HOX, the SIII is a fridge.
It warms up ever so slightly if you run some benchmarks on it but its the equivelant temperature to breathing on your own hand.

No heat at all. Coolest phone here.

Today while charging the phone I dropped it in a bag of unpopped kettles. Guess what I have now. Popcorn. Boy does this phone overheat.
Yeah, I was just confirming if it was a fluke. According to him the phone even overheats while making call which IMO is not possible.
YES
OK this sucks.
Years ago, I got the Iphone 4 and you had to put a cover on it because of the antenna issue.
I get the S3 and to protect it, i get a cover and within no time, after putting it on the phone, the phone overheats, locks up, lags,
If i am charging it, it locks up. I was driving shortly after i put the case on, and it kept making noise but i was driving so i couldnt look at the phone. then once i got home. i noticed it locking up and really warm, bottom right hand corner.
This really sucks as i love the phone but I do know, overheating like this is not good for electronics and will lessen their lifespan.
anyone else having cover issues?

I just started looking for sensor apps and only found one so far, and it just shows battery temp which hoovers around 93F.
I havent found one yet for cpu temps.

That's absolutely fine. That's 33c and that's safe.

It gets rather warm when it running stuff that puts quite some load on CPU, GPU whateverPU, yah, but not to an extend where one could call it "overheat".
So far it's always been below 50°C - I think that's a "no" on the original question.

Phone overheating

I recievied my phone today and everything seemed perfect untill I used navigation. I used the navigation for about 20 minutes and I could not belive how hot the phone got. I'm planning on exchanging the phone tomorrow. Is anyone else having this issue?
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
Usually Navigation does that to any phone, and I can only imagine a metal one.
Mine gets hot too when doing backups or installing a lot of apps. Powers aver doesn't help it either. I don't mind it though. For these first few days I've been using it a lot more than I ever would normally.

Just got mine and yes it gets really hot just texting and browsing the internet. Not burning hot but it's noticeable. I am coming from the inspire also a metal phone and it only got hot when it was hot outside or during gps/charging. Interested to see if other peoples ones are getting warm...
Was just watching some Netflix then got on xda and it's about 40c.

LG G3 Getting wayyyyy too hot

I stopped by the Verizon store today to get my girlfriend a g3. Since I first powered it on, anything I do on it even reading news articles, the phone heats up super fast like 103 degrees. Then if I play a game forget it I'm up to 110 in no time. Is this just the way the phone is? If so I'm very disappointed as we both sold our phones to buy this.
No that's not normal. Bring it back and get it replaced.
Edit: I was thinking centigrade for some reason. 100F is completely normal for a cpu temp.

Dude it just got to 112. Never had a phone get that hot. I couldn't touch the power button for longer than 10 seconds without it hurting my finger
On top of that I can watch the battery go down
Not normal. I've heard that doing a factory reset helps right out of the box. I did one because the guy in the store started setting it up and I wanted to do it myself. Sounds like you have a wakelock if it's eating battery too...
Make sure it's not your battery that's heating up. 100F is not very hot

I believe it is the battery I'm getting there Temps from gsam and trust me when I say it's uncomfortably hot especially for how little the the phone is doing. Also did a factory reset. Was blazing hot right after I finished the setup.
That and the fact that it takes like 4 hours to fully charge
Mine got extremely hot at best buy while it was being set up.
After I rooted it and got rid of the bloat along with hibernating everything I could the phone has not been hot like that again.
These things always can run a little hot and it can get alarming at times but usually it's normal.
Obviously it's not normal though if the phone isn't actually " working " and it's red hot. Then you need to chase down wake locks and everything else...

Ok I will the only thing is I'm not sure how to look for those. Not really sure what's bad wakelocks and what isn't.
