[Q] What rom do you use and why? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Well hello everyone. I was wondering what rom you use and why. Personally, I use Alien, because I like the green theme and the stability. What about you?

There are literally a BILLION topics on this already.... Literally... A BILLION!

I use CM7 pb3. Its stable (except camera) as far as I have seen. And you can use some of the qhd themes from what I've been told.

I tried Alien and Aura and many others... None had Hotspot working for me Except CherryBlur and Stock ORFR... Currently running my own Custom ROM based on CherryBlur..

Crust .7 is for me. Do it yourselfer that performs well with fingerprints and most of all webtop & Ubuntu customization. If i didn't care about what webtop brings to the table or scanning my prints I'd go cm7 probably. Tried everything but π crust is for me. An there are billions but i don't feel like I'm feeding ^_^

cm7 vs mui

What's the difference between this two roms?
CM7 is straight-up AOSP with nothing but performance and usability tweaks. MIUI is a highly customized ROM with a ton of GUI changes and completely rewritten apps. http://en.miui.com/a-24.html
I haven't tried MIUI yet, but I hear CM7 is currently much more stable on Vibrant. If you don't need GPS and can stand the poor standby time, CM7 is a daily driver right now. Haven't heard anyone say that about MIUI for Vibrant - I think they're not quite there yet.
Kool man thanks for the info. Im currently running cm7 right now and so far is the best rom I'm using this as a daily driver.I love this rom and I was planning to flash mui but I guess ill pass in that.lol
Want simplicity and speed cm7
Want beauty with a cm7 base miui

Yeah, if you want a fast daily driver I'd stick with CM7. I'm doing that until MIUI gets more stable, then I'll probably take it for a test drive.
No matter how hot it looks, I'd hate it flashing from CM7 right now - can't beat the speed and stability. Once they get the kinks worked out I'd like to try it.

Recommend a rom!

Hi, I need a stable daily driver for my daughters Eris, can some recommend a ROM. I would prefer sense, but may check out CM7. What is a solid ROM where the important things work (i.e. bluetooth, wife, camera, and video recorder). Thanks for any input!

Xtrasense 2.1 based runs very smooth. (Still on wife's eris).
I upgraded to 2.3.5 based for bluetooth 1 button voice dialing. (It didn't show up till 2.2 roms :-(
Still testing the 2.3.5 roms...

Evervolv has been very smooth, lightweight, and reliable for me.
Good luck.
only rom that didn't freeze and crash on me was nonsensikal froyo.
everything works pretty smooth. altho no longer updated.
im using GSB v4.0 right now and i might change back cause it locks up 5 times a day.
Gin Sen Taz
I have been using various roms over the last 1.5 yrs, and just tried this one lately. I didnt like the other sense roms since I needed at least 2.2 to run my favorite app (google voice search). I didnt notice this as a sense rom til lately, and it works well. Only glitches Ive found are no voice directions in Navigation, and that reloading home screen is slow, about 15 seconds. Im planning on trying Supercharger v6 to speed it up, or maybe an overclocking app to help with that delay. Maybe there is a setting to lock home screen in memory, but havent found it yet.
From my experience, every Eris is different; a ROM may work perfectly fine on one Eris and force close half the time on another. My older sister and I both have Erises and her phone works best with a ROM that my phone crashes every time on.
Still, if you need a starting point, I'd recommend small GSB 4.3 ODEX. It's Gingerbread, but it has some very nice ICS theming.
For some reason, Gingerbread ROMs tend to be more stable than Froyo ROMs. Or maybe that's just the case with my Eris.
Good day.
Please advise rom based on 2.2 or 2.3 which has Sense. Thanks
Exodos sense by Mac is a good 2.3+

I have been using GSB 4.3 and it is solid, fast and reliable. I have had 0 problems with it. My little old Eris has never ran better.
thanks for advise!
I flashet it, but noticed it is slow, weather widget always fall down when i try to change my location. And i tried to change system language with locale2 app, but translation adden only for several places 2.1 sense rom had system translation about 95

I bought a cheap bad-esn Eris for my 8 yr old son....just to use as a wifi device (kinda like a ipod touch). I've rooted & have tried a few ROMs but Angry Birds is still pretty laggy. It's playable using Adfree but still real laggy.
Is there any ROM (maybe overclocked) that will play Angry Birds and plants vs zombies w/o lag or is it just too weak?
thx....currently running OMGB_desirec-1.2.2

Most refined (least buggy) Atrix 4g ROM?

I'd rather not have to try out all 10 ROMs. Your 2 cents?
Also, they all seem to be from July-era...?
well they allll have there own lil
niggels but it kinda depends on what
your going to use the atrix for
if you need webtop or webtop over hdmi
try 4.5.5 from darkside he also has cool
themes alienv4 is a trusty standby of mine also for that "use"
if ya dont like gameing on the bigscreen
and just want pure speed use a debloted
rom some still have webtop all cm7 ones
dont
want a stable cm7
use the ba2f...stable cm7 rom
i personally liked neutreno g+ cm7 weekly based i also tested it as it was being build so i makes me smile
how well it turned out and Notourioust544 did a fantastic job on it to..
For gameing in landscape mode and
the ability to use webtop
i gotto give props to Nottach
and his darkside series of roms
IMO; but ive tried almost all of them too.
:sly:

Thanks I'll take a look at those. I just saw wetdream was released this morning. I'll give it a shot since it sounds like Nottach is pretty seasoned now after his work on darkside.
instead of creating another thread,
can anyone comment on the voltages required for a given frequency on these Tegra2 chips?
I just came from an OGDroid, on those the process variation between the OMAP3430's was next to nil...most ROMs worked at a certain vsel and so the community standardized around those.
For these Tegras it seems to require a bit more user involvement.
So the question, I'm running Clemsyn's elite 1.0ghz, should I bother tampering with the vsels? It looks like on most of these rom's it's about 1mv / 1mhz. IE 1000mhz and 1000mv.

best atrix rom

what would be the best rom to go to for my atrix?
It really depends on your daily usage and user style. I can tell you that you have 3 options:
2.3.4/2.3.6 Blur Based roms: Roms based on official motorola roms. They are very stable and have all the stuff working. Including Webtop. When i want a Blurred rom, i go with Nottachtrix 4G. Pretty sick and stable rom. Only complain so far is battery life. Blur roms tend to be a little laggy because they have lots of motorola stuff and they make the phone laggy.
CM7: Based on GB. Lots of good stuff and great customization. Great battery life. They have almost all the features working. Only problem with them is that they currently doesn't support webtop.
CM9: Based on ICS. Right now they are on beta stage so they have some bugs still that need to be worked on. We have no drivers for our processor, so the devs are having a hard time coding everything right now, and the deving is a little slow. Currently we have two CM9 roms Jokersax's and Turl1's. They are co-deving so the builds are pretty similar.
Thats about everything we have on the Atrix right now. You better.test them all and decide by yourself.

I am running the cm7 rom right now after trying a couple of them and it is by far the best one I have used. Battery life is great and it realllllly fast. I also have the faux123 1.45 oc kernel. And altogether I have not found anything that works better for me personally.

Nobody can tell you what the best ROM to use is.... Everyone looks for different things in their ROMs... Some like MIUI (which i dont get, if you want your device to look like an iPhone, then buy an iPhone....) Some like CM7, some like stock based.... you'll have to just play aroud with some ROMs and decide whats best for you.

Suggested ROM

Friend wants to update her phone to ICS or jelly bean. I am looking for suggestions to the LIGHTEST and FASTEST rom with the fewest if any bugs that anyone knows of. Theres a decent list here from what i see so any suggestions would be great. I am not looking for ANYTHING fancy or colorful or features. Features are great but as long as it dosnt hinder the speed.
Thanks for your time.
AtrICS v 2.0 by Team Hope is pretty decent. Not much experience with JB except epinter's cm 10.1, so i can't give any advice there either. I'd just download each of the ICS and JB roms and try them out and find out which one works better for you.

Thanks, bad part is its not my phone, i just know how to root / install these roms so i just want one that has the basic required upgrades. Ill try the ones you suggest. Thanks. If anyone else has something to say about a particular rom it would be greatly apreciated. Reliability and speed are number 1
In that case, stay with an ICS rom. Most are pretty stable, but will be more stable after kernel development is complete.

There should be a webtop with that rom. I don't quite remember, i was on that rom for a short time before going back to gb.
All other problems should be fixed with 2.6.39.4 kernel development (see atrix dev section, ics/jb kernel thread for dev status updates) and implementation in the boot img. Be patient, they're working on it

Your sugested ROM work the webtop with lapdock? and all teh other features work welll??
I am want use a stable ROM ICS( Ice Cream Sandwich) with fully work Webtop.
thanks
I tried Epinter CM10 and it is a great rom. Smotth, reliable and responsive.
BUT !!!! There is a "but". There is a lot of functions that do not work anymore due to a lack of tegra drivers for ICS / JB... :
- no video recording (except in a very bad resolution 640x480)
- no hardware acceleration so you cannot play your video on your mobile stored in mp4 (native cam format), mkv....
- games will have a strange behaviour (lag, screen scrambled...)
For this reasons, I comeback to Gingerbread ROM and I have a full useable phone !
Make your choice, but You will are not able to get all
If you can get away from the idea of wanting just a JB or ICS rom, I'd suggest Neutrino Rom. Its GB and really stable.
Any rom u install which is not GB is not stable
U can go with Epinter cm10 much stable but u cannot video record using the phone the battery is also good.
On other hand u want everything working u better want to stay with MRom

Standard versions of CM, MIUI, CNA, etc
Advantages:
You're running ICS or Jelly Bean
All the latest apps are available
All the latest security enhancements are available
Battery life is decent
Disadavantages:
No HWA, which means video recording doesn't work correctly, games with heavy graphic demands won't run decently (you can forget about running GTA III, for instance), Spotify won't show album thumbnails, and there will be some screen lag.
No fingerprint reader
Currently available HWA-accelerated versions of CM (such as AtrICS and any ROM running "That Kernel" or "Those Libs")
Advantages:
You're running ICS or Jelly Bean
All the latest apps are available
All the latest security enhancements are available
HWA is available, which means everything runs silky-smooth and beautifully
Disadvantages:
M I S E R A B L E battery life (as in fully charged to completely discharged in about six hours, even if you're not using it)
Video camera still has problems
Still no fingerprint reader
A Tweaked Gingerbread ROM (such as MROM, Neutrino, etc.)
Advantages:
EVERYTHING WORKS! INCLUDING THE FINGERPRINT READER! w00t!
Full HWA
Excellent battery life
The Holo Launcher makes everything look very ICS-ish
Disadvantages:
You're still running Gingerbread
Some apps (such as SoA and XDA Premium) won't work, because they're ICS or JB-only
RaiderDuck, you forgot the lapdock, other than that, your comment should be a "sticky", not that everyone reads them, but it would cut down on the GB vs ICS/JB questions that have been answered over and over.
