Gingerbread update failure. - Motorola Droid X2

I want to update to gingerbread and rom to Eclipse, but for some reason the 1.3 update never works for me. Tried on rooted froyo, and it failed, tried it on empty factory reset phone and it still won't update. Does anyone have a clue on how this works?

Are you talking about p3's preroot GB zip? If so, it always shows an error at the end of the installation. Reboot and you're good.

No, I just did a regular factory reset.

Just gingerbread sbf, then factory reset again.

Well if you're on Bell I don't think flashing to 1.26 would work because it's an AT&T SBF. I may be wrong, but that could be what's causing your bootloop. If you're on Bell, I would suggest flashing 2.1.1, and then installing CWM over that. That's what I have and it's been flawless. Hope this helps.

Its an unlocked ATT phone. Guess I should have stated that. I have no problem installing anything. Just finished the whole process going from 1.26->1.57->1.83->GINGERBREAK->CWM->webtop mod->gingerblur->steelbue theme. Lol. I wanted to know about the hard reset because I flashed a 1.83 sbf that didn't wipe. I didn't want to go all the way back to 1.26. I needed to be odexed to install the webtop mod.
Anyway, its all done now after a couple hours. Just wanted to know why does a hard reset in cwm always put me in a bootloop

Are you doing a factory reset before or after you install gingerblur? I've read that doing a factory reset before you install gingerblur can cause a bootloop.

After.... I read that too. So I did wipe right after flashing gingerblur without rebooting first. It would boot right to homescreen but after 5 or 6 seconds it dies and boots again. Cwm is unable to load after that point. Red is the only way out

That's weird. I have a Bell Atrix and have never had a problem like that. And because gingerblur is designed for the att atrix I have no idea why you be getting any of these issues.

Yep it weird for sure. Still waiting for the elites to chime in. It doesn't make sense to me. I have everything back, I would just like to know why it happens

[Q] Pre-rooted GB not getting past moto M

Need help! I tried running through the steps to install pre-rooted gingerbread on my dx2 and everything was going well till the reboot, now the phone won't get past the motorola M "dual core" screen. I can get back to stock recovery, I've tried wiping the phone but no dice, so I've sbf-ed back to froyo through RSD lite and then the phone starts up fine. Tried installing pre-rooted GB three times and it always ends the same :-( Probably just being a moe.ron but I have no idea what else to try. Thanks in advance for anyone taking the time to try and help!
-desperately wanting rooted gingerbread
Sbf to gingerbread and find the thread on one click gingerbread root method.

Gotta root froyo, then use the bootstrap to install that file. Now that we have the sbf for gingerbread and the one click root...you don't have to go to froyo and take all those unnecessary steps, just flash the gingerbread sbf. Just make sure you wipe data before the sbf...it usually eliminates a bootloop.

Trying to root X2 to CM7, boot loop after installing

I've been trying to get CM7 on my X2 unsuccessfully for about two hours, here's the process I took.
I saved all my stuff, and erased everything on the phone using the Android Recovery. I went back to 2.3.4 using RSDlite, then Root using Pete's Tool and installed OTA Protect. I then installed Bootstrap, installed recovery, went to recovery mode, installed CM7, and then GAPPs. Now, I wipe data, clear the cache, clear the davlik cache, and reboot. Now, this is where I just get stuck at the M Dual Core Technology Screen.
I searched the forum for answers, but I couldn't really my problem. It seems CM7 just isn't booting for me. I have tried this 2-3 times already, please help me out!
Why did you install ota protect? And make sure you are properly rooted and that the sbf worked... check your about phone screen to make sure... all I know is to sbf again and start from the beginning.
Edit: also did you install the patched bsr.apk for cm7?

I've had to sbf more thwn once to get my X2 to get up and running. I would say to try and sbf again and instal the patched CM7 BSR. If u have any other questions, u can always pm me and ill do my best to help u outout
STEEL BLUE CM9X2
SBF 2.3.4
Root phone
Install regular BSR
Flash CM and Gapps
Wipe data (not cache DATA)
Boot CM
Load BSR for CM7
You CAN NOT boot CM with regular BSR loaded , hence the wipe Data before booting.

Cleaning davlik cache help.

I've searched threads but since ICS update my Maxx freezes a lot. I tried the suggestions of cleaning davlik cache by holding power and volume up and down button but there is no option that I can find to do this. I am on stock IcS 211 never rooted. I have factory reset twice to no avail. Is this option only available if you are rooted?

Yes sir.

If you root, you can install Safestrap and reboot into a recovery state, and there is an option to wipe the Dalvik Cache in there.
I wish I had the guts to root again. I had A Samsung Galaxy S 4g that I paid someone to root and flash for me. Needless to say the phone ran worse rooted so I followed instructions and unrooted and went back to stock. Thank god I succeeded in that but it was a nail biting experience for me and I just don't want to chance bricking my awesome Maxx. I love it too much to ruin it lol!

Well a root itself shouldn't slow it down or anything. If you use Matt's Utility, it should root it and that's all. Now if they flashed a custom ROM or firmware on your Sammy, then that may have been the problem. It will still be on full stock ROM and kernel, and have all the apps you previously had installed. Matt's Utility is about 1.1GB for 1.8/1.81, and it's a simple tool to reflash stock, root, install boot/safestrap, etc.

[Q] SBF strangeness

I have a couple of questions, any input is appreciated.
1. Does anyone know, in detail, what sbf-ing actually does?
2. Have any of you had strangeness after an sbf?
The reason I ask is because I had been under the impression that performing an sbf was basically like re-imaging a computer. I thought the OS was wiped and a standard image laid down. But after some recent strangeness, I'm confused as to what the sbf actually does.
So the strangeness is this, I normally run the latest Eclipse Rom, which I was previously on, but of course wanted to try CM10. Being that Eclipse is 2.3.5, I did an sbf to come back down to 2.3.4. The sbf took a normal amount of time and seemed to work just fine--but with one strange thing. I was absolutely positively still rooted after the sbf. I thought somehow the superuser icon didn't get deleted, but when I went to root, the tool popped and confirmed I did not need to root as I was already rooted.
I installed bsr without issue. I installed CM10 without issue. I've noticed no adverse effects of this anomaly, I'm just kinda wondering, wtf might have happened?
Any ideas?
Did you wipe data after the SBF? The sbf itself doesn't touch your data folder....

I don't think I wiped the data until I did the CM10 install, but even then, I never lost root.
Once you are on the ROM you want lose root. But if you didn't wipe after the sbf that's why.

moto phones are quirky
wiping data before SBF is recommended
all system files should be replaced, but it isn't perfect
and sometimes on some phones, memory, seems to resists flashing

Everytime i sbf it has wiped everything but the last time i sbfed when i booted the phone my custom wallpaper was still there but it wiped out root. I found it kinda strange. Never happened before

Yeah, I've heard as much. This is the first time I've experiences such weirdness first hand. I'm on CM10A2 now and the sbf process worked as normal, so all is good.
Thanks for the replies everybody.
