how did you flash alien rom without cwm? i dont think im understanding you.

With the boot strap recovery in the Dev section. It installs like a app, then you have to plug your phone into the charger and click recovery. Them your in clock work recovery.
Edit: you can use this with the boot loader locked to flash alien rom.

[Q] Please help

Hi guys, I really need help restoring my phone back to working order. I made the dumb mistake of flashing a stock 2.2 kernel while using the bionix 1.3.1 rom. Now my phone is stuck on the team whiskey logo loop. I can not get into recovery using the volume plus power button anymore. It sends me into samsung recovery 2e. How do I go about fixing this problem? Any help would be appreciated.
Hmmm...might use Odin to flash the kernel from the Bionix.zip? I'm guessing you didn't disable lagfix before flashing the stock kernel. Shouldn't be a big deal if that's the case.
Edit: That's of course assuming you can get into Download Mode.
Edit 2: Not sure how easily you can flash only a kernel using Odin. Might try Heimdall if that doesn't work?
Agreed! Whats the kernel you tried to flash? Link maybe? It really shouldnt be any problem maybe it just needed to sit. In either case it sounds like the update.zip should still be there. Try reinstall:update see if that werks. Good luck!
I just realized what exactly I did that caused everything to mess up. I wiped the cache partition which erased my data including the update.zip. Can anyone provide the 3 files I need to return my phone back to stock condition using Odin. I found the thread but the links did not work anymore.

Unfortunately I don't because I used ryan's oneclicklagfix as the method of rooting so I never had the update.zip on my computer. I been looking into restoring it back to factory everything but the links for the baseband, kernels, etc are not working. Do you know any working links?
I believe everything you need should be able to be found in the guide:

Good luck!
Thanks everyone for the help.

[q] cwm 3.0.2.8

Hey all,
Totally went back to stock...so started with DL09 and then proceeded up to ED04. I installed CWM (red) and rebooted into it and then rooted my phone. Worked great...this morning decided to wipe the battery stats...now it just goes to the Samsung (blue) recovery one. I decided to reflash with ODIN and it still just gives me the Samsung one. Any ideas on how to get this working again???
It sounds like your flash may have failed. Maybe try it again. It might be easier and more reliable to use heimdall in this situation as well.
Also, I know it's early, but this is a question and should be posted in the appropriate section.

Go from odin straight to cwm, do not reboot after odin

What is heimdall? And yes I should have posted in the Q&A section.

You have to download this and ODIN to the phone ...
Code:
http://goo.gl/QCYxT
... What's happening is when you are booting up fully it is replacing the new recovery with the stock recovery... flash this, then flash CWM .. all will be cool!!
More information can also be had in this post..

Heimdall works like Odin. Cwr is being overwritten by the stock kernel, you should flash a custom kernel if you want cwr to stick.
*Edit...beat me to it. :/

You may have to flash a custom kernel to get your recovery permanent. I did the same thing to get the ed04 ota.
1. Flash the dl09 tar file in odin, don't reboot.
2. Flash the cwm3 odin file of your choice, don't reboot.
3. Boot into recovery using the 3 finger salute (should be the one you just odined).
4. Flash the custom kernel of your choice & reboot.
That should keep it rooted & keep cwm available to you, at least it did for me. The key, fwig, is to repalce the stock kernel cuz that is what will replace cwm when it boots.

Help a noob with CWM - what did I do wrong

Hey guys,
I need some help with this CWM. It is my first time using this phone.
Ok, I will go through all the things I have down so far.
I got the phone yesterday from AT&T (America) and immediately updated OTA to official firmware 4.5.91.
I then downloaded pudding for AT&T/android 2.3.4, downloaded the latest windows 7 drivers, and the latest RSD lite 5.3.1.
I used RSD to flash pudding onto the phone, but did not enable USB debugging, or the other option to allow non-android/certified installations (located at setting, applications...I think)
That resulted in a no OS found, error 1x000 on the phone, and an error in RSD. RSD said something around the likes of: error - could not switch...something the phone then gave me a list of options and went into fastboot protocol mode.
I thought to myself: "darn, I bricked my phone", but I saw that it went into fastboot mode. I did the fastboot cmd's from my computer to unlock the phone, which seemed successful (unlock on the top left corner), but after I did fastboot reboot, the phone was stuck in the dual core screen, with unlock on top left still.
I had to pull out the battery, but the phone then booted up normally.
Thinking that everything is now fine, and still forgetting to enable those setting in the phone, I booted the phone in fastboot protocol mode and installed ROMracers CWM.
However, I didn't use the second command to delete CWM before installing romracers. It installed fine though, from what I saw.
So I then try to go into the CWM by holding the power button and volume down, then scrolling down to recovery and hitting volume up.
Then the android guy and the triangle warning sign shows up. Great.
What did I do wrong? Everything seems to have worked so far. I am using the latest versions of everything.
I am following a tutorial video on youtube (two weeks old), and I am at work right now so I have not gotten to the part where he gets the same error on his demonstration phone; however, i saw that the guy downloaded a file explorer that can do a specific thing that other programs cannot, but it costs money. I didn't see any more.
What should I do?
Download and install a root file manager, and delete recovery-sh from /system/etc, then try again
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
If you tap the bottom right corner of the screen you will get stock android recovery options.
If you flash the cwm of your choice and immediately boot into recovery after you flash it you should be able to get into ur custom recovery until you fully try to reboot again. I think..... its been a while since I was in that boat.
You soft bricked it, that happens if you unlock the bl after 2.3.4 is on the phone. Its common

Thanks guys.
What program should I use to delete that file? Preferably a free one...why doesn't everyone else have to get an app to successfully install CWM?????
Also can I just install this even though my phone is already unlocked with pudding on it?

You can use es file explorer and use the root option in the preferences,
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
I went through the same thing you did up until the ROM choice. Even the pulling of the battery. So I would say that is normal and you should not think the problem is there.
My Atrix came with the 2.3.4 update already installed and I did the pudding bit with RDS (which didn't give me root, I had to use the adb method). I flashed the Ninja Speed ROM (very happy with it) and I didn't have any problems.
Did you check with known issues of your ROM? Some require specific recovery apps.

I downloaded the app, but the root feature only works on rooted ROMS/firmwares.
Seeing that I can not put any ROM's on my phone because CWM doesn't work, I am stuck...
Does this help at all...

Do you mean my CWM choice?
Most of the guides say that you should install CWM before installing ROMs.
They also say that the Rom's themselves root the device.
I do not know what to do...

Sorry I saw you didn't root it. Do you have the Motorola RSD lite program for your computer? I would go into the firmware super thread and use RSD lite to get your phone back to square 1.
I used plain old CWM and I am more than happy sticking with mainstream recovery options.

Do not use rsd to go back to square one!!!!
Your atrix has the retail ota on it, you WILL HARDBRICK if you flash using rsd. All you can do on 2.3.4 with rsd is flash pudding. Ifyour unlocked already, delete rsd!

This should help you get back to romracer's recovery.
1) Download romracer's recovery for your AT&T phone from his recovery thread in the development section. Make sure you download the fastboot version, not the .zip version.
2) Connect your phone to your computer, and put it into fastboot
3) Open up a command prompt on your windows computer, and issue the following commmand:
fastboot erase recovery
moto-fastboot flash recovery recovery.img***
***you should replace recovery.img with whatever the recovery file you downloaded is called
4) Then boot into recovery and it should be the recovery that you chose in the first step. Hope this helps. If it does, make sure to thank joeavery2, as it is part of his complete wipe guide!

New to T-Bolt question about bricking it

If it does get bricked or bootlooped is there a method similar to odin, or rsd to unbrick? This is my first HTC device. Thanks
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
Brick means there is no recovering. You toss it and get another one.
As long as you can get into bootloader, you are not bricked. As posted above, the correct definition of a bricked phone is a phone that will not boot anything including the bootloader. This goes for any phone from any manufacturer, not just HTC. The phone ultimately is a paper weight at this point, and there is nothing that can be done, unless you have money for a JTAG device. I'm not even sure if a bricked Thunderbolt has been successfully revived with this device. Someone else will need to comment on that.
Now if you mean recovering a phone where its OS no longer boots, yes it can be re-flashed through bootloader (full RUUs and Radio) or recovery (custom ROMs).
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
Thanks for the help. Is there an app similar to odin or rsd that is run from the pc or is it all done through the phone on HTC?
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
Most work is done on the phone itself. In case of a non booting OS, the computer is only needed to transfer ROM files to the root of the SD card and to check the MD5 checksums. Custom recoveries such as Clockwork Mod or Aman_Ra will allow USB connections to set the SD card as Mass storage in case of a non booting OS.
Odin and RSD are flash programs, where as our phones are capable of flashing themselves without use of a flash program.

To reach the Hboot where you can flash a recovery ROM turn off your phone hold volume down to reach this screen any flash should be named PG05IMG.zip

Yes it is needed as this is the flash file. The correct file name is PG05IMG and it is a .zip file. Full stock RUUs and Radios must be named PG05IMG (if when you DL it and it is not then re-name it)
Any file with this name MUST be flashed through HBOOT (bootloader). Just remember once you are finished flashing, you need to delete the flash file from your SD Card.
Custom ROMs are different in that they do not need to be renamed however they MUST be flashed through Recovery and not HBOOT.
Sent from my brain.
Ok so custom roms can be flashed in cwm. Does this include rooted stock roms or are those still in hboot with the pg05img.zip file?
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
Sorry for the late response but yes, rooted stock ROMs get flashed in recovery.

Simply stock installation help

Ok so I tried to install the simply stock 2.3.5 yesterday and when it was going through I got some ladies voice who kept repeating the same line over and over. 'converting cache partition. Not enough space on partition' and kept boot looping that over and over. Could not do anything with it after that except DL mode and odin back to stock. Could some one please take a look at this rom and give me some instructions for it because the ones that were in the thread weren't all that specific. Also could someone give me the best root for this phone because the one I used may have been the cause.
Also there is a fixer file for this rom that apparently addresses some problems it has... How would I go about installing that zip?
