How do you back up your apps/contacts? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have both Rom Manager (Same thing as ClockworkMod right?) and Titanium back-up installed, and I want to flash a kernel, so I want to make sure to have a back-up before I do it. Both programs have very complex settings and I don't know what to select to back up my apps and contacts. What do I select to back up everything, and where does it get saved, my SD card?
Also, I am flashing my phone that currently has Lightnin' Rom 6.1 installed (also has the kernel that Lightnin' Rom came with) with the Speed Mod. Do I just install flash it the same way I did Lightnin' Rom through Odin?
Also, what are the chances of something going wrong here? I just want to keep lightning rom because it looks cool but I want Speed Mod for the better battery life.

1. use Titanium back-up and make sure it is save to external sdcard or move it there yourself.
2. use odin and flash it like the rom.
3. If you follow the developers instructions, nothing should go wrong. But if something went wtrong just reflash the lightin rom again and you are good as new.
after successfully flashing. just use Titanium back-up to restore youn contacts.

Proper Back Up Procedure

Hi Guys,
I am running the the latest Axura ROM (2.2.5.7 I believe) and have now purchased the premium versions of the following Apps: ROM Manager, Titanium Back Up & Launcher Pro.
With all this awesome capability, what should I do in the way of a back up to restore my phone if something ever happens? Basically my goal is to be able to go into recovery and restore my phone totally if I FUBAR it.
Please keep in mind I just entered this world as of Sunday starting with Rooting and then ROM flashing : D
Thank you for all your help now and in the past!
From another post I made:
The way I have things set up for backups, and this is just for my personal convenience, is as follows...
I have a stock JFD ODIN rom to flash in case anything goes wrong. (A lot of people here will tell you to flash this whenever flashing a new rom. It is safer, and cleaner to do it this way, but not absolutely necessary)
I make a nandroid of my last stable rom (I only keep one at a time cause the files are huge) and keep a backup of that on my PC.
I backup all my apps and a few other things (call logs, bookmarks, sms) through Titanium backup. If you get the pro version, you can load it up after flashing a new rom and have it automatically restore all your apps in one click (system settings can be dangerous to restore when going from rom to rom, so be careful with those.) I also keep a backup of this on my PC.
I will also occasionally backup both of the sd cards to the PC.
Maybe overkill, but you probably wont ever lose anything forever.

Well I just backed up my ROM through ROM manager... I have another one in there too dated Saturday (when I first flashed) which I assume is my stock vibrant ROM...?
I do have the Pro version of Titanium... how would I back up everything for a one click set-up?...If I did that should I just delete my ROM back up in ROM manager? Trying to avoid unnecessary redundancy and the wasting of precious space on my phone : P
Go into Titanium and click on Backup and restore and than click on menu and then batch and then select backup all user apps. then run batch file. You also have the choice to back up system data as well. I would not recommend deleting any of your backups in Rom Manager. Just backup all of your apps(and system data if you wish) and you are good to go.
Thanks all!

Why is that? Nandroid backups are very large, and if you're playing it safe and making a nandroid each time before flashing a rom, you will run out of space very quickly. You should always keep at least one (for me its my most recent, stable, daily driver), but it certainly is NOT necessary to keep all of them.

[Q] few questions about flashing

Hey guys i have a few questions, i have installed custom recovery and megatron rom. my question is
1)is it true everytime we boot our phone into custom recovery our phone will ne automatically taken to the factory reset?
2)for example, i want to install void rom, should i just straight forward install the rom eventhough i got megatron rom applied?
3)how do i overclock my phone, i have installed megatron rom but cant find any
4)how to create folders in the menu for tue megatron rom, i want to separate my downloaded apps wih my preinstalled apps from each other. There is no options available to create folder when i press options button in the menu. it sucks that my downloaded apps are together with my preinstalled apps
5)how to backup my downloaded apps, say, everytime if u boot ur phone into custom recover via three button combo your phone will taken to the factry reset and your downpoaded apps are gone right. so how to after i custom recovery, then restore my missing apps after factore reset my phone. i know theres two way to do that, with the custom recovery itself nand backup and titanium backup. but im not really sure how. Especially the tianium backup, say, i backup my files using titanium backup, then i install rom or something through custom recovery then of course, my downloaded apps will be gone after i reboot my phone right, and of course my tianium backup will be gone too. so how do i restore my apps if my titanium backp is gone.

Procedure for (re)flashing ROMs (and backup)

i've really only used rom manager in the past, and now with the LTE i'm using Goo manager, and TWRP for a recovery. my question is, for those that want to try a new ROM, what is your procedure for backing up your ROM and apps, etc.? i ask because i flashed to viperROM, and backed it up via TWRP recovery, went to try another ROM out, and then wanted to reflash with the backup i had created, but wasn't sure where to find it to flash back. was it just a matter of not knowing what directory it had been saved into? also, when you make a backup (is it still referred to as nandroid?), do you have to use something like titanium for backup of apps and their data? i take it that's the case but wanted to be sure... maybe i need to do more searching for titanium backup i guess.
edit: just to add that i have used TB root in the past after flashing, only to find that things like some of the games etc. were as if it was a fresh install... no save game data. what's the proper way to ensure that apps are backed up with all of their associated data? or is that something that's more of a case by case/manual thing?

Question about backup

Hello, everyone.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 and would like to install a custom rom on it, but before I do that, I need some clarification about backup, just in case I feel a need to change back to the default rom.
I downloaded and purchased Titanium Backup and did a ''Backup all user apps + system data'' on it, this is saved on both my SD card and on my PC.
I also downloaded ROM Manager and did a backup via the Recovery mode, this is saved on both my SD card and on my PC as well.
My question is, if I now download and install a custom rom on my phone but end up not liking it, will I be able to use this backup to get my phone to the exact state as it is in now? All my apps, contacts, settings etc?
Thank you.
you can restore everything back to the way it was except the modem. so if u do flash a different fw and want to go back take Note of modem and when u restore old Rom flash back modem via recovery and all should be good

[Q] Already rooted. Correct apps?

Rooted my gnote i717. I have superSU, ROM manager (clockwork mod?) (are they the same?) and titanium backup. If I want to get rid of the stock rom and put a new one on... Are those 3 apps that I have good enough? Or do I need another app? I did a batch back up with titanium backup. Now to put a new rom, I guess I press certain buttons, then get the new rom from the sd card with rom manager, then when my phone is turned back on, go back to titanium backup and restore everything? A little shaky about all of this, I just want to get it straight before I brick my phone. Thanks

You got it pretty much right except when it comes to TiBu, especially with moving from Rom to Rom, you'd want to restore apps only, not data.
Make a nandroid backup, play with TiBu. If it mess anything at all, restore your nandroid.
OP please keep your topic to one thread, no need to create multiply threads regarding the same topic. This thread will remain open, other threads of yours closed, Thank You.
