Is there any chance of making my sdcard unusable/format it by using this?
Nope, but better use sd-booster from market.
Thanks you myfriends for response this topic....

I just read about the benifits of minfree handler and got an app named autokiller memory optimiser from the market .
Can anyone tell me wht settings to configure in order to set minimum ram as 280mb?
I tried different combinations but my ram seems to keep going below thevvalue i set..

The minfree values are being configured by the Supercharger script. Try the built in modes or make your own minfree configuration. It's a Bourne shell script, not a pdf, just uploaded with a pdf extension.
Thanks but i already got an app that dies the job ..all im wondering is about the correct setting ..

Androids minfree is very advanced, your goal should be a smooth transition regardless of what you're doing. We have 512MB of RAM, that's alot relative to the rest of the O1 hardware.
Most of these minfree apps have predefined settings. Start with a middle of the road setting. If you find your phone lagging due to limited memory chose a more aggressive setting. If regularly used apps are taking to long to load, and performance is otherwise unchanged then choose a less aggressive setting.
My current settings are 2048,3072,4096,7168,9728,12800 = midrange
Common more aggressive settings would be 1536,2048,4096,15360,17920,20480
I'm using optimum (40,50,60)....ill increase later today to see if there's any changes..I'm not using supercharger scripts right now, personally because I never thought I had a need for em but the minfree app is amazing

Could you explain the significance of the values 40,50,60 n what they would help for? ,sorry but im confused..

may i know how do we change the value for minfree if not using any apps or script?
directly edit the below line in init.rc file?
Code:
write /sys/module/lowmemorykiller/parameters/minfree 2048,3072,4096,6144,7168,8192

I think that's the line. But i think it's better to use script...
Hey guys I'm running the alpha 15 of CM9 and was wondering if there was a way to change default storage. On cm7 I used the ext SD card as my default storage and noticed there is no setting in CM9 like in CM7 that allows you to change default storage. Any way to do this? Also I know others running a stock ROM rooted would like to know if there us a way too. Thanks

I'm thinking that is something you might have to set in any app that uses the sd card. Seems like it would make more sense to have it done in phone settings though.
Some apps you can but preprogrammed games like gta 3 don't let you
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
You can move the files yourself. It's kind of annoying but that's what I do to get games working on a rom that switches the storage on me. (And to avoid downloading it all again)

Well I would but not enough room lol. What can I say I love my games. Pretty much why I got the phone

Does anyone know where I can find the SD card speed on CM7? It's set to 128KB by default but would like to change 3076 without the use of an app.
Sent from my MB870 using xda premium
How did you find out the speed on CM7? The only way I can think of is to get a higher class sd-card. Class 10 is 10mbs per second, 8 is 8 per second, etc.
I'm talking about changing the SD CARD read ahead cache speed found /sys/devices/virtual/bdi/179:0/read_ahead_kb. Changing the value here work until reboot. I was just wondering if there's a way to get the value to stick or if I need to create a script?
It helps with performance of apps if you have them on your SD Card. I already have a class 10.
Not sure if it's exactly what you're looking for, but if you use Rom Toolbox pro and slide over to the performance tab, all the way down is an option called SD Boost. You can set different values and there's an option to apply on boot as well

There are apps that can do this and have a setting to set speed at boot. Just search the market for SD speed booster.
What Roy said lol.

Doing it without an app will require a script. Do you use script manager?

Yeah I've used it before.

I know you don't want to use any apps at all but you can have script manager apply your script at boot.
Sent from my MB870 using xda premium
Okay..so in other words there's nothing I could put in system/ect/init.d to make it apply on boot. I already tried placing this script there but nothing happens.
#!/system/bin/sh
if [ -e /sys/devices/virtual/bdi/179:0/read_ahead_kb ]; then echo 2048 > /sys/devices/virtual/bdi/179:0/read_ahead_kb fi

Download SD card booster from the app store.
Did you set it to have execute permissions?
You'll have to ensure the directory is in read/write mode and then from an adb shell prompt, do the following command on your script:
chmod 0755

Yah I had set the permissions with root explorer. Sweet got it working finally with ADB thanks iBolski.

Excuse my noobness, but what exactly is the purpose of tweaking the speed? I understand to read/write faster, but what applications will this benefit?

faster r/w access to the sd meaning cached data that apps use and any resources they might be accesing will be accelerated. A good place to see the effect first hand is in your gallery. Go to 124 or whatever the default is then scroll through your gallery and see the time it takes pics to load, then change to 1024 and save settings and go back to gallery... images load MUCH faster now... the same will be trueto some degree for just about every app because our virtual sd is our only sd meaning resources and behind the curtain magic is on the sd make sense?
You guys are talking about the Read Ahead Buffer size. I keep mine at 1024, but you can try higher values if you have a bunch of stuff on your sd card that you frequently access such as music, pics, and vids.
My SD is stuck in read only and won't let me delete or add files. I've tried changing the permissions to R/W in root explorer and removing a file but it shows right back up. I took the card out and used and adapter to mount it to my PC but it won't let me delete, add, or format the card. On the adapter it has a lock switch but it is set to unlock and other SD cards work both in my phone and with the adapter on the computer. Any ideas?

Didn't mean to thank that... Anyhow, I've had that happen before and unfortunately that is a sign it is no good any longer. Nothing I did would fix it. Maybe someone else has a suggestion though.
