That's personal preference.. I like the amount of dev attention the atrix is getting. They both are great dual core phones. I use webtop also.. one choice there.

I will likely be making the switch for the larger screen. I will miss the LED Notifications and the Finger Print Scanner.
Of course this all assumes ATT prices it competitively. (doubtful)
I would buy a unlocked one but the center button is terrible the 4 android buttons are better. I have read the battery life is terrible on s2

Hold out for a Nexus Prime... supposedly coming in October. Pure Google experience! Just hope that the latest rumors that it is supposed to be exclusive to Verizon prove false... hard to believe Google would do this, alienating all current Nexus owners & devs.
i have had the samsung galaxy s2 for about two weeks, and although it has an amazing screen and its the fastest device i have ever use - it's battery is awful.
I switched back to the atrix for now.
for people waiting for the nexus prime, keep in mind it will almost be as big as the dell streak.. huuuuuuge. like a tablet phone lol. i cant wait to see what it is like though, i will most likely be waiting for it since i dont even use my phone for calls xD

you switched back just because of the battery life?.. personally i HATE samsungs phones, but the nexus S was a nice looking device, never used it but yeah. sgs2 looks nice as well, idk if id trade though.
I've been waiting for the SGS2 but I will probably add it as a second line and use it as my daily driver and then turn my Atrix into more of a PMP and Hotspot.
I'm also looking to see if they do end up releasing a SGS2 variant with the keyboard that's been leaked:
http://www.droid-life.com/2011/07/26/atts-samsung-galaxy-s-ii-outed-with-keyboard-in-tow/
The Atrix is perfect for me because of WebTop. I use it for work when I go to client's businesses, a lot more efficient that carrying a laptop. When (if?) the prime comes to AT&T, I'll use that for personal use, and switch SIMs for when I need the Atrix.

I thought about the same thing OP. Realistically the top phones out right now are the iPhone 4, Atrix, Galaxy S2, and Optimus 2x. And...the next wave of super phones that are coming out will be around October. This will include a bunch of devices that Samsung and Motorola, among others will release to compete with the iPhone 5.
My advice is keep your Atrix and make the switch once the next big transition to dual core phones happens because you'll be wasting money and it's pointless to switch for such little improvement.

ill stay with my atrix, im patiently awaiting cm7 to come out of beta and have everything work cm7 hauls ass compared to any rom right now for atrix becuase its 100% blur free
Not worth it imo. You get a bigger screen with less res, worse battery, slightly better processor (but seriously Tegra2 is more than good enough esp overclocked), superthin if thats your cup of tea.
As others have said, wait till the next generation comes out Q4. Atrix to SGS2 is incremental at best. As I hate the SGS2 form factor and really love qHD resolution of atrix, it would be going backwards IMO. The only thing about the atrix that lets me down is the little bugs with VOIP/SIP stack and bluetooth as well (e.g. if you're using BT headphones for music, notification sounds keep coming out of phone not BT).
Now if you're not game to root and flash custom ROM then the balance tilts a fair bit, stock SW wise the SGS2 is noticeably faster than the stock atrix IMO.
^ only reason this is true is because sgs2 is stock clocked at 1.2ghz, but has terrible battery life. I am oc'd at 1.3ghz with better than stock atrix battery life

Overclocked and better than stock battery life??? How does that work?

im trying to see if I should wait for the Galaxy S2, GX2, or htc Sensation too.
Sensation and Galaxy S2 both have more Ram the the LG, but the LG is out now...
All 3 use are different duel core processor.
I definitely dont think you should go for the mytouch 4 with the LG out now and others on the way.
trying to decide which of the 3 duel core phones to go for myself.
if you are looking for a phone now, its the LG hands down. If you are willing to wait, then you are in the same boat as me. not sure between the LG, HTC, or Sammy
Ya, the htc is supposed to be out in June or July. But my son's mytouch slide is having issues. So I'm considering upgrading and giving him my phone.

Switch from the vibrant I'm on the g2x nd lovin it by far the fastest phone I have ever owned. I've owned a lot I'm a phone whore... I'm still going to get the galaxy s 2 when it comes out phones are like pokemon gotta catch em all

If you can wait ............wait for the S2 the hardware is something to wait for. Over the next 10-15 months all the phones will go through a huge change. All the new phones hardware will have the capacity to run windows 7 (not that they will) but think about it ....the phone I have now has the same power as my windows 2000 computer 7 years ago............ amazing time.........
The vibrant has too much going for it to pay for an upgrade now. Especially in my mind the uncertainty of the AT&T takeover, or as i call it, when we all get screwed.
The g2x is amazing. I want one. But I also know my phone is dang good and only better phones are going to roll out... More GHz and more dual cores.
The next phone with a perfect 4"screen, 1.3+ GHz dual core on a good/cheap network may change my opinion... In the future.
S2 for sure. There is nothing to discuss, and nothing to think about. That is just the way to do it. Period.
S2 has a answered my prayers. I have been waiting for a freakin 4.3 SAMOLED phone to come out. Sammy only had the 4" galaxy S - Vibrant last year with talks of "dual core."
I'm glad that they didn't rush it either- because that would have been a huge liability waiting to happen.
Instead, they listened to our gripes.
1. 32gb memory- on bigger model
2. FFC - badass
3. FLASH!!!!
4. 8mp camera
5. 4.3" Capacitive Touch
6. Super Amoled!!!!!!!!
7. Gorilla glass?
8. External SD support up to 32gb
9. 4g !!!!!
10. GingerBread official.
11. Mod edit: to much info mate...keep it to yourself.
Seriously, it blows anything out of the water that is out there and will be out there in the near future.
Plus, Tmobile is getting is.
I'm going to buy 10 of these just in case zombies attack, then I'll just sit back and relax.
Anyway, /shameless Plug.
you get the picture.
GL with your decision.
A better way to go about this is, do you plan on rooting your new phone and installing custom ROMs? If you you do intend to do that, then i think Samsung has proven they could careless about you or the dev community so long as you buy there product.
We all know HTC shares there source code and there is a herd of diehard HTC fans who will mod the crap out of the Sensation.
I just picked up the G2x yesterday after i seen that LG has already released source code for not only the OS but kernel source code as well, and with cyanogen himself doing the CM7 port to the G2x, it will and should be community supported greatly as well
A thing that sold me on the G2x is that it supports AT&T 3G bands, so if its still my main phone if the merger goes down, it'll be a fully compatible device and i wont need to buy a new one to take advantage of AT&Ts extended coverage
So in the end it really just boils down to:
How long can you wait?
Do you intend to mod your phone?
Galaxy S2 hands down.
It will have a lot of ROMS for it since it has an unlocked Bootloader just like the Vibrant. The HTC Sensation does NOT. It also has lots of memory internal, and a 4.3 Super Amoled PLUS. Everything else you can compare to the HTC Sensation of G2X as all 3 have relatively similar "rest of the phone".
I'm on a g2x lets hope that the galaxy 2 does not have the normal sammy problems like on the vibrant I have a bitter taste for them now

as you can see from the second post in this thread, I too am trying to decide between gx2, gs2, sensation...
i see tons of people saying the samsung gs2 will be the best thing ever. So yes, Sammy does have awesome hardware (look at our vibrants). But, will it be cheap plastic? and who cares how great the hardware is if the Software sucks balls? (like our vibrants). Yes, our developers are awesome, but they are having to run circles around Sammy's terrible software writing...
I am not saying this is the case with the gs2, as im thinking about it too, just wondering these things...?
Thank you guys so much for your responses. It was exactly what I was looking for, different opinions. I needed to get a phone because two of the phones on my plan were injured. My son chose the "sidekick" not a bad phone, but I tried to talk him out of it. But whatever, it was cheaper.(good for me). I chose the G2x. And I gotta say, WOW! And for those wondering, the screen is just as good. Colors even seem a bit deeper. Quadrants (whatever) but 2200 out the box. The 4g is way better than my 3g. You tube on HD without a stutter. Couldnt pull that off before.
1080 vid recording (I was told) not tested yet.
Fast fast fast processor.
FFC (untested yet)
8mp camera with flash.
Feels much more solid and better made than Vibrant.
Stock against stock. Hands down its better. Guess I will have to wait on dev community for customization results. Maybe I will try to figure out how and root it tonight to remove some bloat.
I will miss my Vibrant (but my sis in law will be happy).
Oh! And I heard today the merge with ATT may not happen. Yay!

Big day today source code released for our Photon, and SGS2 announced for Sprint. Coming out Sept. 16. So will you stick with the Photon, or switch to the SGS2 with it's big 4.52" screen? http://www.androidcentral.com/samsung-outs-sprints-galaxy-s-ii-epic-4g-touch-ahead-tonights-event
I believe I'm staying with the Photon, that phone doesn't look very good to me. The Photon is a prized jewel when you take it out of the box. Very unique and the kernel was just released today so we are basically just starting. I believe in this phone and the devs we have here to unlock this thing proper and get us on some sick kernels!

I love my photon but the extra screen on the sgs is appealing. Its going to be a hard choice.

No way! I love the Photon! Had it for a month and still growing on me. I love the build of the mopho and don't think sgs2 can beat it even if it is thinner.

My upgrade day is Thursday, I plan to go Photon and barring major failures I don't plan to take it back for the new epic. Reasons being Samsung is happy to sell you a phone and never support it. While amoled screens look great the resolution of the epic t4gs combined with the 4.5 size isn't a good combo. Samsung also typically has weaker radios, they sure are on my Epic. The masses will flock to it though then when the next big phone comes out the epic t4g will be considered crap.
love AMOLED but still no word on processor yet. I am gonna stick with the photon.
I feel the same way. Love the Photon and the dock! The Epic 4g touch will have to be a real beast to make me leave. The Epic 4g still doesn't have official gingerbread release. And the radios on the Photon are great!
My 30-day return period ended yesterday, and I'm plenty happy I stayed with the Photon. 800X480 resolution on a 4.5" screen doesn't appeal--I've always thought 4.0" was the sweet spot in screen size, with 4.3" being the upper limit for me. I'd certainly not want an even bigger screen with lower resolution, no matter the tech. And I'm one who really likes the sunlight visibility of the Photon's screen as well as the great battery performance.
As far as performance goes, yes, the Samsung chip is a little faster in general computing, but the Tegra 2 is still plenty quick and is better for gaming. The Photon is plenty fast for me, so I can't imagine a phone needing to be _faster_. And I love how the Photon is built--solid and attractive. The kickstand has really turned into a plus for me as well.
The only thing the SGSII has going for it as far as I can see is that dual-pane email client, and Google Talk with video. But, I've had Google Talk with video on my Transformer for months now and have yet to use it. And email on the Photon is fine. So, nothing lost there.
No, I'll take the outstanding phone quality, excellent GPS and Bluetooth, awesome car dock, and Motorola's better update history of the Photon over a bigger, lower-resolution screen and slightly faster processor. If I had found my Epic to be just spectacular in these areas, maybe I'd feel different, but of course I didn't. Quite the contrary.

The specs came out today, Samsung Exynos 1.2GHz dual-core processor.
I asked myself what I didn't like about my photon and the only thing I could think of was developer support but now with the kernel source released, here's hoping that negative turns into a positive.

It's thinner and lighter with the same specs as the photon. It will probably have the same battery life as the photon. It has a better screen (tell me you haven't once been annoyed by PenTile on the photon).

I don't see how it will have the same battery life. The pentile screen on the Photon is why the MoPho has good life, the sgs2 has a larger samoled plus which may look better (possibly debatable based on the resolution) but wll drink more juice.
Battery life is nice, but not a huge decider unless one phone's is dismal.

Will the Sprint SGS2 have a kickstand?
I've searched the forums but I couldn't find anything resent and I know with the speed of development any info was probably outdated anyway.
I come from a nook color/gtab/le pan rooting background where the choices are more limited and focused as far as rom selection goes. So some of these DX2 and TB Rom choices are a little over whelming.
I have an upgrade for Verizon but nothing really grabs me right now, but I still want to upgrade from my DX.
My main concern is Rom stability and speed. 3g vs 4g isn't a factor form me since this is just meant to carry me over for 6 months or so.
Your thoughts on what phone and what rom?
Dx2 rom choices are overwhelming?
Don't hear that often. Or ever....
Dx2 is a bad bet. Its a good phone, but with a locked bootloader and Tegra 2 it gets very little dev love.
Go get yourself a nice galaxy nexus. That's my advice.

I don't want a nexus, hence the original question posted.
If it is just holding you over for 6 months it would be a good investment since you don't care about lte. They'll have quad-cores out by that time. Although i am on cm7, the eclipse rom I think is pretty damn stable.

The DX2?
I'm used to CM7 from my nook. I like it, I know the CM7 for the DX2 is still in beta though.
Funny you ask, my wife has a TB and I an x2. If 4g is not an issue, I would say X2 hands down. ONLY, if you plan on installing cm7. My phone is blazing fast compared to hers. And smaller and lighter. The gpu on the x2 is light years ahead of the crummy one on the TB. Has less weird issues, and battery life is quite a bit better, even with cm7.
But, honestly, what don't you like about the nexus? I would highly suggest going that route if its an option.

I don't get that argument. The Nex has a 4.65 inch screen without having a bigger footprint than ours. So even if those buttons NEVER went away (and they do when screen size matters--watching video), it'd still be more screen on a same-size phone.
Also, why waste an upgrade on a 6 month stopgap device? What are you gonna do in 6 months when a phone you do like becomes available--pay the unsubsidized $600 for it?
The last thing I'd do is renew my contract/use my two year upgrade on a DX2 (especially knowing what we know now). Moto's already abandoned the thing, if it weren't for DKZ et al. so would most of us.
Phone flaws I'll never overlook again:
- Locked bootloader
- Pentile display
- Lack of NEON support
Agreed. I second the comment that dude, the soft buttons go away when the full screen is Needed. Such as updated games and when watching videos. Speaking of which, tonight I just picked up a galaxy nexus on eBay. Saw a great price and had to jump on it. X2 has been fun. And honestly, for the folks that did stick on xda for the x2, I'd say, good crowd!!
Back to ur question, I'd say, if ur looking at signing a contract, don't do it on the x2. If u really like the phone, pick one up on ebay. Later in the year look for the Samsung Galaxy S3. Sign a contract on that.

why does everyone talk **** about pentile screens? This is the ONLY phone I've EVER had that I can actually see the damn screen in bright florida sun and it has almost the same resolution as my netbook that I don't carry anymore because this phone straight up replaced it.
waaaaaaah my pixels arent square... waaaaaaaaaaah...
here's 2 cool features of this phone, real buttons that don't waste space on the digitizer and no forward facing camera. I don't want my phone looking at me.
the ONLY thing I dislike about this phone is the locked bootloader, and it hasn't been THAT much of a problem.
one thing I do know, it gets recpetion where almost all the others don't, and I travel for a living, so that is EXTREMELY important. the only issue I had with mine was the stock SD card was crappy, my phone would freeze and do stupid things until I replaced it... It even go run over by a lifted K5 Blazer (the big one, not the little s10 based one) in the colorado rockies with no screen protector or case or anything and all I have is a tiny scratch on the display and a scratch on the side all the way down to the metal...
yeah, METAL... this phone is made of METAL not wussy-assed taiwanese plastic.

waaaaaaah my pixels arent square... waaaaaaaaaaah...
here's 2 cool features of this phone, real buttons that don't waste space on the digitizer and no forward facing camera. I don't want my phone looking at me.

I must say this is one rock solid phone! One thing Moto did NOT cheap out on was build quality. I have not handled a phone that is more sturdy and sleek (sleek enough for me) than this one. And it has some weight to it, which is not overwhelming but reassuring. I held my friend's SGSII and it was feather light and "felt" cheap...
yeah the rockies story made me look down at my dx2 in a case with a screen protector on it and feel kinda lame. lol.
If you like the screen then I am happy for you and I will agree that it is very bright. But there are plenty of well done tests that show the clear pitfalls of non-amoled pentile screens. I think the x2 is a good phone, but personally the poor colors, awful dark imagine viewing, and the ghosting are more then enough to get me to think twice about pentile. If I'm not mistaken, tomshardware might have called it devil
And buttons are a matter of choice, but after going from the d1 to the fascinate, to the TB, to the x2, I can safely say hardware buttons are not for me.
All in all if you pick up a x2 for $160 on ebay I think you will be happy if you put cm7 on it. But know it has some issues, as do most phones.

I misunderstood your OP. It's a fair phone for $150 unlocked (now that we have 2nd init. roms) if you're not OCD about display issues. Mild screen ghosting is nails-on-a-chalkboard to me, and the DX2 screen ghosts like no other.
Anyway, the DX vs. DX2 seems to be a wash. The DX2 has an extra core (and is a better dyno queen when it comes to benchmarks...like all Tegra 2 devices), but the DX is honestly just as zippy in 90% of tasks. The DX2 has a qHD screen, but the DX display looks better anyway (no ghosting).
If I were you, I'd install CM74DX-GB as seen in this thread:
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/10191-updated-info-on-revnumbers-cm4dx-gb1-batt-and-fm-radio-added/
on the X, and rock it for another four months until the SGSIII comes out.
2 cents.

Now that the Samsung SIII has been officially announced for Sprint, how many of you are taking the leap? Any new features you can't wait to use? Anything you are concerned about that's stopping you from taking the leap?
Staying put. I want the Note!

I'll stay with the Photon for awhile.
Back in the WinMo days, a new phone would have more memory, etc - something to differentiate it.
Android phones, IMO, have reached the point of commoditization - I'm not seeing compelling features that make me want to upgrade. All current phones have good screen res, battery usage, memory, etc. The Photon is about as large a phone as I'd want.
I'll wait and see what, if any complaints there are re: the radios.

I need a worldphone, and Sprint's version of the s3 wont have those capabilities (based on what I have read).
all teh sprint phones are gunna have teh dual core s4 chips, the evo lte and sgs3 have big 720p screens. they all will have internal storage and high res cameras....
really it boils down to which manufacturer you want, locked bootloader vs unlocked, sense vs blur vs touchwiz vs lg
I'm sticking with the Photon until the next Nexus. I've been thinking of the Galaxy Nexus, but the PowerVR 540 is just too antiquated at this point.

I don't have an upgrade for another year. I see myself having a windows phone 8 device along with a windows 8 tablet, and of course my windows rig which will probably remain windows 7. As much as I enjoy android, for some reason I just don't see myself sticking with it.

It's not necessarily that im in love with the platform more than it is that it's the only one i havnt delved into extensively. I was a Winmo fan back in the day, then i fell in love with webOS, and the Mopho is my first Android. So the only one i havnt experienced to the fullest is windows phone.
Most notably, i enjoy the idea of every one of my devices being seamlessly in sync with one another. Plus, it just seems like android is so damn fragmented. The way it's put together feels almost, sloppy, to me. I can't really explain it. Did i mention wp is downright gorgeous?

Since the SIII is almost as large as the Note, what has you want that device specifically?
S pen + folio case
Also hopefully sprint is working on a GS3 version (S4 cpu + 2gb ram) which would be great but if its the OG note on sprint it should be cheaper by now.

i agree, all the phones are pretty much the same. big clear screens, 8mp cameras, same storage, same RAM, all 1Ghz + dual cpus... Honestly the specs have me bored. The only thing that raised my eyebrows is the extra 100mAh in the battery. for me, all i need is a phone that can connect to the web, answer and make clear phone calls and have battery to last me the day (add more days and ill be even happier)
But with this all said, im headed off to the store to upgrade my mother from the original EVO 4G to the EVO LTE (i figure it will be an easy change for her since its still HTC Sence) Her biggest concern is knowing where the camera and video recorder is to capture grandkids.
Me personally, im sitting on my photon for a few reasons. 1.i paid the full 650+ for the photon so im going to use it till it dies. 2.my upgrade is a ways out 3.World phone is a must for me now. 4.i got ICS on the photon (thanks devs)
Edit: just picked up the EVO LTE for my mother, very impressive. great feel to the phone. made a phone call and great audio. im sure anyone who buys the phone will not be upset, BUT its CDMA only. after playing with it for the day, i must say its VERY impressive. Im tempted to buy one for use in the US and then keep my photon for travels. im curious to see what LTE sprint will give. store said to expect towers to come online towards the end of this month (houston tx). ill be watching her phone and seeing how the battery does. It makes my photon feel like a brick and a tiny brick! that screen is MONSTER when next to the photon.
I'm probably going to pick up a galaxy nexus sometime this year. I'm not worried about having the latest or greatest.

I'm planning to replace my photon when:
1. LTE will come here and MoPho won't support it.
2. There will be some really good replacement for MoPho, but I really don't see any good now. I don't know why it's so hard to make good device like MoPho is.
I would like if Motorola will come with new device like our Photon. If they will create second upgraded photon, I would be happy.
For me & wife (EVO 3D and Photon) 4G has rarely been reliable while moving - even in large markets (Chicago, LA, San Fran, Houston...). I guess we'll have to see if LTE is better.
But, in my case, very high speed on my cell phone is getting increasingly irrelevant - don't need high speed while in car moving. And when stationary, normally have free WiFi available and use my tablet. YMMV, of course, that's just my usage pattern.
Anybody got some advise? Pros cons?

can't go wrong with a nexus.
IMO, good move if it is a GSM galaxy nexus. OK move if it is a sprint and you are in a LTE area.
Photon has an advantage in which you can use it on any carrier except verizon. That give alot of flexibility.
Signal sucks on the Nexus. Photon has the strongest radios. Nexus is arguably the weakest.
Being an Android addict, even though I'm with Verizon, I must give my two cents. I've had substantial experience with both phones as I have my buddys Photon and I have a Nexus as a backup to my S3. The Photon doesn't even compare, especially if your looking for ROMs. Motorola has totally dropped the ball lately and the Photon is giant proof of that. Get the Nexus, you will not be disappointed.

Holding the actual phone goes a long way. For me, nexus phones feel like cheap toys that will suicide if dropped. Photon feels like a purpose built device. Ive come to love the radios in my photon, as well as the seperate charge hdmi ports. I usually mod an hack the hell out of phones...i dont feel the need to with the photon. Having a phone that doesnt feel like my nieces barbie phone is great. Think it over.....

I switched to a gnex and couldn't be happier. Jelly bean is awesome and the development support for it is second to none. Battery life blows away my photon, and no more worrying about locked bootloaders and Motorola being trolls.

what nexus are you talking about? ill agree the nexus s was a plasticy hunk of crap, but the galaxy nexus is very solidly built. since i got my extended battery free from sprint (two of them to be exact ) i like the feel of it in my hand even more.
the photon community has more than tripled than when i first found it and i am very happy for you guys, i loved my photon like no other but i would definetly have to say my gnexus has stolen my heart. despite not being a true AOSP device (sprints gnexus is the only one without binaries or source code in AOSP), we were able to get jellybean working damn near flawlessly within a day of google I/O, our biggest setback? MMS. now that we have source we have a bunch of jellybean based roms that are all flawless.
Pros:
Newest software updates well in advance of OTA's
Future proofing yourself with LTE
Bigger screen
Free extended battery if you act quickly
Slight performance bump
Unlockable bootloader
Color control (dont like how samoled is super saturated? change the color tuning to how you like )
there is a lot of kernel work out there and a handful of roms (i say handful cuz we have all the big ones CM, AOKP, CNA, AOSP, MIUI etc etc)
Cons:
Lose webtop (you can buy an MHL adapter and mirror, but none of teh fancy webtop stuff )
You'll be stuck on 3G for a while (assuming you have wimax now)
You'll lose Motoblur
im sure there is more im forgetting but i cant remember at this time
I may be a little biased. Not a fan of the samsung phones. The plasticky feel/look is such a turn off an the radios ive experienced with the few phones ive had in hand were atrocious. These threads are all about personal opinion. No one answer is right. OP, go physically use both for as long as you can. We ultimately cant decide whats attractive to you. Hands on/time spent is the best way. And if you cant decide, hands off an wait till something comes up that does blow your skirt up

I have used GN one month and returned to Photon, it was not worth the money for that. It would be good upgrade from Defy, maybe Atrix (screen size) or something with one core cpu, but not from Photon. Just my opinion. I am waiting for Droid RAZR HD.
I moved from the photon to the nexus and don't regret it. Idk why others are bashing the radio. I've always felt photon had the best radios but I honestly can't tell the difference in signal strength between the two. I also have an e4gt and that had a horrible radio. Traded it out for another e4gt and same issue. Tried the g3 and it was slightly better but not anywhere close to the gnex and photon.
Battery life is better
Screen quality is better
Design is PERFECT! feels amazing to hold and look at
Speed is obvious just check out the specs. Ive overclocked to 1.8 once and ran buttery smooth. Went back to 1.2 for battery life.
I can't think of a reason not to move to the nexus.

First of all in my home there are a Photon / GNex(not always, friend phone) / E4GT and I notice something about them, people claim Photon has better radio (partial true imo) and Samsung GNex or E4GT weak one (partial true), in Photon it always shows full signal no matter if there is good or bad coverage but when you connect a call it shows the real signal strength ex. 2-3Bars same as the Sammy devices are showing with or w/o a call so IMHO is just a placebo effect on Photon.
And for OP go GNex you won't regret.
Or maybe Photon Q (I'm getting it for my wife).
