[Q] Wifi sleep policy being changed - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Something (an App?) is setting my wifi sleep policy to "never". Seems to stay set after I change it for about 10 minutes then gets set back to Never. Is there a way I can find out what is doing this? Driving me nuts!

I think it's a bug.

[Q] How to set WiFi to never sleep?

Hello,
I've been using VEGAn 5.1.1 w/ Pershoot's kernel 26.32.32 for about a week now and today the WiFi started to not come back from sleep.
I've seen on other threads to set WiFi to never sleep. How do you do this? When I go to "Settings->Wireless & Networks->Wi-Fi Settings" there is no option to never sleep. Is this somewhere else or is there some other way/application needed to access the setting?
Also, does this (WiFi/sleep) work any better with Clemsyn's kernel?
Thanks,
Joe
When you go to the Wifi Settings screen, press menu. Then "Advanced". There you can adjust your Wi-Fi sleep policy.
Unfortunately, in my experience, setting it to never sleep doesn't really seem to make a difference. The tab will always go into a deep sleep, and the Wifi will go to sleep along with it. Someone suggested Load Monitor as a way to keep the Tab from going into that deep sleep, and so far that's worked for me. I just went out for about 3 hours, came home, woke the tab, and the Wifi was still active. At 10:32 I got an alert that new stories were added to Pulse, and my Tab had been inactive for about 2 hours at that point.
Update: Woke up this morning without touching the Tab, stumbled to my computer and sent a Chrome to Phone link. About a minute or so later, my Tab made the notification sound (it's usually immediate, but not always with CtP). So it would appear the Wifi stayed awake using Load Monitor. This was with the Tab plugged in, gonna try it unplugged tonight.

Ah, there it is, thank you debh945!
It's strange; I had to reboot 4 or 5 times yesterday do the WiFi going out during sleep. Even just the screen going off for a minute did it once so I don't think it was deep sleep.
This morning it woke right up fine. But it had been plugged in charging over night. I guess if it was easy it would be fixed.
Thanks again,
Joe

[Q] Wifi sleep policy when connected

Hi all
I am looking for a tweak to modify wifi sleep policy to sleep wifi if its on after lets say 1 - 3 minutes of not being connected. Then enable it only when for ex screen is on.
I am almost 99% positive, that i have seen such thread somewhere here..... ...but i dont seem to be able to find it...
Maybe you have seen such tweak around here?
Do you mean how long after screen off wifi sleeps (default 15 minutes)? If you are, check http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=973869

[Q] Wifi sleep policy bug, wifi not turning off with screen off

Got the galaxy s2 running XWKE7
Under wifi settings>advanced>Wifi sleep policy. selecting turn off wifi when screen is off setting does not seem to take effect.
Tested by pinging it and continues to ping even 5-10 mins after screen is turned off.
anybody else having the same issue ?
Have the same issue, want my wifi to turn off when the screen turns off but wifi stays connected.
Only thing I can think of is that i restored my access point with titanium.
Can this cause any problem and if it can, can I delete the restored settings?
My sleep policy works fine when turning screen off. When i turn on the screen, the wi-fi icon appears after a few seconds. Also the battery usage shows that wi-fi is off when screen is off and phone inactive. Might be related to one of your apps that conflicts with the wi-fi policy. Happened to me when using an app that had options to turn on/off wi-fi scanning.

Weird, will have to check this up.
But as far as I know I don't have any other app that manages wifi.
As you can see in my screenshot, wifi is on at all time even when sleep policy is set to sleep when screen off.
Currently I'm not connected to any wifi since I don´t have any in range at work but it looks exactly the same when I´m connected to my home network.

Have you tried setting the sleep policy to 'never'?
Has anyone found a solution to this problem? I did a factory reset (XXKI4) and it was still the same. Screen off, policy set to turn off when screen is off but I can still ping the phone after a few minutes.....?!?
EDIT: I remembered ;-) Had the same thing on my original Galaxy over a year ago.
Needed to edit a database:

Cant save sleep settings.....
I have a slightly stranger problem that's just started. I'm aware of the situation where wifi takes 15 mins to turn off after screen turns off was never bothered with that aspect.
However, since today I found wifi was staying on continuously - checked in settings & wifi sleep policy had reverted to 'never' - I always had it set to 'sleep when screen turns off'.
The problem now is that I change it to sleep when screen turns off' and 'save' this setting but it's not saving - when wifi goes off & then back on again or if I reboot phone, it reverts to 'never'.
Any ideas folks?
Back-up data and factory reset .
jje
Would like to know this too.
Wouldn't like to back up and reset everytime this happens.
Also couldn't find the files in /dbdata folder as indicated by the Galaxy S thread pointed to.
Is there any other solution?
someone says using static IP will solved this issue but It didn't...
Any news on that?

Me too! Any word on that?
Had the same problem, where the battery no longer lasted the whole day.
When I checked under "Settings/ Battery" and clicked on the graph I could see that whilst the phone was sleeping, WiFi was not.
I have done a few "factory resets." All seemed okay to start off with and then after a while I would notice the same problem.
This last time I found that "Google Now" is the culprit.
Just click on the blue Google Icon, under Applications, then bring up the menu, click on "Privacy and Accounts" then "Google Location Settings", then "Location Access" and make sure "Use wireless networks" is not checked. (also available from "Settings/ Location services")
That fixed it for me!!

Keep WiFi on during sleep (Never)

Does anyone else have an issue with the WiFi sleep policy? My WiFi never turns off when my tablet is in sleep mode. I set it to 'never', turn off the screen and no matter how long I wait, it is still connected to WiFi while the screen is off (which destroys the battery now). I have been turning it off manually and putting it into low performance mode every time I turn off the screen, but would like this to be automatic. Any suggestions?
Wont turn off for me also... its killing my battery. I hope a fix is coming soon. .13 has made my perfect tablet a POS.
Wifi is on all the time with nothing turned off and I lost 13% battery over 7 hours. But Im still on .11. I have 5 emails, facebook and weather on push/update amongs other things. Iwould check if something is constantly running in the background and keeping wifi on.
Use Auto Airplane Mode (free on the market). Will disable wifi when asleep. Works well.
Mine never turns off either, I use Juice Defender.

eeehmmmm..... when you set it to 'never', it will NEVER turn off wifi. so what you are describing is supposed to happen!
or did i understand you wrong?

And there's why lol
Just putting it out there, but my WiFi state while asleep doesn't seem to do anything one way or another. My battery drains the same amount if I don't actually disable WiFi, and connectivity is never there on wake (even if set to be).

Actually its set to "keep wifi awake on sleep" never
The OP did not specify what FW he was on hence I mentioned mine. In your case assuming youre on .13 and got the bug, I think Gary mentioned they had pin-pointed the problem and coming out with a fix by early next week.

Sorry its on .13
Sorry to revive an old thread but has this issue ever been solved? No matter how many times I set "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" to "Never", the moment I change wifi access points or turn off then turn on wifi, it reverts back to "Always".
I am running the latest update .21.
Furthermore under "ASUS Customized Settings", "Disconnect network during sleep" has been giving me similar issues as well.
Any input would be greatly appreciated, thank you!
Mine battery widget says that wi-fi is ON all the time when sleeping no matter what is ticked in option. So i turn off wi-fi manually to save battery.
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using XDA Premium HD app
I use Tasker...
Screen on, wifi on.
Screen off, wifi off.
It's automatic, and works great.
I don't mind my wifi being on, with all the apps that run in the background they always on, notifying me of new emails and app updates.
I found out just recently that my tablet was still connected to Wifi, even though the last usage of my tablet was about a day before. I have the disconnect network during sleep enabled and keep Wi-fi on during sleep set to never and I still experience 96% battery usage according to battery widget. Idle is at 4% usage. So I went through the settings, unchecked/unselected, then rechecked/reselected the choices to make sure they're actually selected. BTW, I'm on the latest firmware - 9.2.1.24. I can say it hasn't rebooted for over 265 hours.

[Q] After JB update, wifi always off in sleep

I like keeping my wifi on while my screen is asleep so that I can receive chat messages or e-mails without being at my computer. I never had this problem while running ICS on an unrooted TF201, but ever since I installed the upgrade to JB my wifi will always disconnect after the screen has been asleep for a few minutes. I've checked every setting I can think of. In the Wifi Advanced menu, I have it set so Wifi is always on, and in the ASUS customized setting I have Disconnect network during sleep to off. Under Power Saver I have Enable low battery settings off, set Low battery level to 0%, and even set Wifi OFF to off. Despite all of this, it seems like the tablet under JB goes into some sort of deep sleep and disconnects the wifi after about 5 minutes of inactivity.
I have noticed that this problem does not occur when the screen is on. I also have the dock, and set the screen to always on during meetings in the event that I don't need to enter any notes for a few minutes so I don't have to fool with any delays from screen wake .
Is there some setting I'm missing? Is it a hidden setting that I could access by rooting? Or am I dealing with something internal to the build that I can't change at all? This may not seem like a huge deal to most, but it has become one of my main uses for the tablet when I'm at home. I'm very disappointed with JB so far even though the wifi does feel more responsive on the Prime after the update (when it's not sleeping, of course!).
EDIT: I noticed this evening that the wifi turns off even when I'm running something that uses it while the screen is off. I was listening to Pandora, and about 5 minutes after the screen went off, my music stopped. When I turned the screen back on, I saw that the wifi had indeed become disconnected.
hey,
I have exactly the same problem with my tablet. I have checked every option, I did a factory reset several time, I have checked it on 2 different routers but it is still disconnecting the wife when it goes in the sleep modus. Did you or anyone else find a solution?
