New Market 3.x - I have had it! - G Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok. I bought this G Tab knowing that I would have to install ROMs, tweak .prop files, NVFlash, CWM, RootExplorer, etc. No problem there.
But now I have had it with this new Market. Many (if not most) applications are showing as incompatible with my tablet even though I already installed them. My beloved Word With Friends now requires an update, but I can not install it from the Market as the new Market believes the app is incompatible with my ROM. That is the last draw as I cannot play it anymore.
So does anybody have a market.zip that has Market 2.3.6 so I can go back to the old market? I have the .apk files but I think I need something that could install via CWM (BL 1.2) since all the apks do not work if you install them by themselves (they all FC). I would freeze market updater so it does not upgrade again to 3.x.
Thanks

Installed the GAPPS and it did not install the market. Tried uninstalling Market and Market updater first and still no go.
It looks like something is blocking the old market from being installed. I extracted it and installed it myself but it then FC everytime it started.
Very frustrating. This is the kind of crap that is going to kill android. It just looks like Google is purposedly trying to lock out aftermarket ROMs from accessing Market apps.

This happens to me frequently. The solution Ive found is to stop the market and clear data. After this is done, launch the market and youll no longer get the error. Sometimes Ill have to do this 3-4 times a day. Good luck.

Interestingly enough, I think I got a workaround. Through some investigation, I found out that the problem was that many apps were being filtered because of the screen resolution. So I started working with the density property in the build.prop to find out if there was a magic number that will make things work like they used to. It appears that I did find that number and it is 160.
So I updated the build.prop line with Root Explorer:
qemu.sf.lcd_density=160
After that I cleared the Market app data and the Google Services Framework data. Rebooted and everything that was previously installed seems to be recognized and the applications started updating again.

[Q] Market has uninstalled itself?

Just went to look for an app and my Market seems to have stopped working. The icon has changed and when I try to open it I get an error saying "The linked program is no longer installed on your phone".
I was using the 2.2 Market (from Modaco) and have just tried to install it again but upon trying I get an error saying "Application Not Installed".
The only thing I've done to the phone since last night when it was woking properly was try the BFS version of Flykernal-11c (I was running the non BFS version).
I also use AppBrain but I can't see how that would have broken it.
Maybe Google have somehow stopped 2.2 Market from running on run on 2.1 ROMs?
Anyway, does anyone how can I get the old Market back without restoring from a Nandroid back-up or flashing the ROM again? Is there a 2.1 Market apk available?
Thanks,
Lee
i 'm running on latest market no problem so far.. & about installing thing just download market from somewhere & use adb/push it .,

Yeah, I'll see if I can find an earlier version somewhere.
I can figure out most problems myself but I must admit, this one has me stumped!
Not having much luck so I'm restoring from Nandroid.
Hopefully there's only a few things I'll have to reinstall... but AppBrain will help there
I'll report back about the Market issue.
All working now. Only have 4 apps to re-install and 3 phone numbers to change. No biggie, but pity there wasn't an easier way to fix it.

delete Market file directory rom 2.1 help needed

Hi!
I bought an x10 a week ago and have been trying various roms on it and it's fun.
I have a market problem with 2.1 roms modded or default and I have tried everything including formatting sd card and using xrecovery to format sys etc...
I cannot download apps from the market on any 2,1 roms only 2.2 and above work fine.
I see in all the 2.1 roms that the market has the history of downloaded apps but won't install them either so I would like to use root explorer and delete the market directory and hope to resolve this problem.
I have tried some 2.2 roms but I would like to use a 2.1 rom with working cam and find some cool themes but 2.1 roms are useless to me without market downloads.
please help if you know where the root directory of the market files are.
Thanks for your help
BTW I been to the website for a long time and got into phone mods on an old htc touch and thank the website and mods for hosting this great place.
Try using titanium backup, go market in the list and wipe data.
Also go to system, applications, manage application, find the market and uninstall updates.
Maybe that could help.....solves any issue i have had with the market.

Hi Mr Patchy Patch,
Thanks for your reply. Titanium backup did not work and I just used the program to wipe data and uninstall the market as suggested. (cool tip)
In xrecovery I also wiped all the choices available as well as went into the partition options and wiped everything I could there.
I have reset all phone data inside the phone and reset to factory settings in the phone with no luck. Uninstalled updates no luck
I have also used flashtool to install a generic rom with no luck in the spp installer.
I have also used sony pc suite to repair the phone and still I see I have downloads in my downloads in the market and they never complete when trying to install anything.
I am at a complete loss as to why I cannot install apps from the market on any 2.1 rom.
App installs work fine from 2.2 and up.
Any more ideas?
Cheers
Try deleting android and .android_secure folder of you sd card but make sure to copy those to a pc first.
Thanks for your reply,
I deleted the directories on SD card as recommended then went to xrecovery and wiped everything and installed factory x10 2.1 rom and setup connection and the market downloads still show the files I tried to download before and nothing will install in the app market.
Does anyone know of a 2.2 froyo rom that has everything working and some good menus?
2.3 with working cam etc??
I have no luck with phones
Maybe you can just go to your google market account and change your linked phone in the market that may be it.
Or uninstall market with manage application and use root manager clean all reference's to market
and reboot then reinstall market.apk. an sign in.
Make sure you have the market apk first.
Hi!
I tried root manager great program but no luck.
I wiped and uninstalled the vender and market update and changed my google id and no luck...
installing a generic rom either from xrecover or from the flashtool and the app downloads get stuck and never finish.
It appears I no longer have the download history on the new account with the old downloads and I guess I surrender.
I have no idea why I cannot download apps from the market on any 2.1 roms modded or generic.
Weird as hell
try opening your google talk app?

I have the same problem I've been stuck in this situation for a couple of days now and I've been searching the whole X10 forum for a solution. I've flashed to multiple 2.1 and 2.2 roms but the problem is still there. Seems like the download is running on the notification bar and in the market but nothing's happening at all. I even took out my SD card and it's still downloading. The Market.apk isn't eve listed on my phone when I want to clear the cache and uninstall the updates. I have no clue how this happened and I'm desperate to find a solution

amazon market place as "system" app

I'm new to nook, but so far I've managed to get my new tablet running nearly everything I want via golauncher and manual apk files. Youtube, reader, google email are all good. Only thing really missing is the Android market.
Based on reading through this forum and the KF and others, the patterns seems to be people getting the google services loaded, rebooting, getting andorid installed and then it crashing shortly after launch. This is also where I am at and I've tried what must be 10 different versions of the market. I did notice that different versions produce slightly different results. I wonder if the market versions are dependent on certain versions of the google framework service package?
I think I read on some other forums that the Android market place must run from the "system" area or something. if you copy it to the right place and change the file permissions correctly, it apparently runs ok where as it fails elsewhere. Is that where it is failing for us I wonder? It's not in the right place and we don't have root to put it there?
I read that titanium backup can convert a user apk in to a system apk. Is the market app a user apk? If so, has anyone tried converting it to a system apk with titanium and trying to letthe package installer installis as a system verison ??
As I said, just a n00b. so please excuse any silly suggestions. Just trying to chip in with ideas
cheers
the only issue with that would be that titanium requires root
Could it be backed up/converted as a system app from a nook color and then imported to nook tablet?

[SOLVED] Play reverted to Market, can't download apps

Hi there
I hope someone can help me or give me a pointer. The short story is that Google Play has reverted to the Android Market (v2.3.4) and I can't download anything from the Market.
The longer story is this...
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2, bought sim-free over a year ago, running Android 2.3.3. Yesterday I had a problem with Google Play not being able to download some apps. This was clearly wrong: I had 1.5GB free of 16GB. In the course of trying to fix this (ha!), and trying to find recovery mode, I borked the device further. Google Play reverted to Android Market v2.3.4, and some apps got messed up in random ways and consistently crashed. I uninstalled some of the crashing apps, but I still cannot download anything from the Market in order to reinstall them.
I've cleared cache and cleared data for various apps and services: Market, Download Manager, Google Play Services (odd that that's still there), Google Services Framework, and maybe some others.
The problem with the Market is that when I touch to download an app it readies itself for the download (moving diagonal lines on the progress bar) and then the progress bar disappears as if it's finished. There is no download, and certainly no install, but no error message either. On the other hand my web-based Google Play account says I've just downloaded it. And meanwhile my web-based Google Play account says there are no devices associated with my account.
Given the situation with Market, I can't even download something like MarketFixer which may help. I can sideload apks, but I can't find a (legitimate-looking) apk like MarketFixer to download.
I've never rooted my device, so I don't expect to have to do that to fix this. Before do a factory reset, does anyone have any ideas?
Many thanks
Nik
Update: Solved in thread below
ah darn!! i thought i could help you, up until the point where you said you didn't root . If you rooted then you could just install the latest version of google play

Thanks for even thinking of that, dragid10.
Hmm... theoretically, if I routed, where would I get the latest version of Google Play from? I can't access the Market, after all.
There are a few threads in the apps forum here on XDA one is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1932489
I also don't think you need to be rooted to install it. Just make sure you turn on unknown sources from settings(either under applications or security)
Also have you tried uninstalling updates for the market or removing your Google account from your phone and re-adding it.
Edit:Updated thread URL original one was a closed thread.

nsmith4, thank you. That's moved me a bit forward. I couldn't find a Google Play apk, and now I've got Google Play back on my device, and the web version of Google Play knows about my device again.
(I did try to delete my Google account and it refused me. It said it was needed by some applications and should do a factory reset instead!)
So now it seems I'm back to my original problem: I (still) can't download any apps from Google Play because it says (wrongly) there's insufficient space on device. I shall keep looking for an apk of MarketFixer or similar. This problem is now the same as the one reported here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1436188
although of course I cannot download MarketFix to help me fix the market.
Update: That install of Google Play didn't stick. When I rebooted the phone it took me through the Android initiation process (asked for Google username and password) and Market was back in place of Play.
Looks like a problem with factory resetting every time you restart. That is a bigger problem. Google Play will automatically update itself (all update to com.android.vending will).
Try taking the ICS update (if you haven't already), you need a fresh install of the OS. Or you can root and install a ROM. Same thing

You say you "borked the device further". The question is, what happened? What did you do, and what got borked, in what way? If you don't even know, then it will be difficult or impossible to repair. The easiest and fastest solution will be to install a fresh ROM, like Gagdude said.

gagdude, post-mortem: No, I didn't keep a careful record of what I did. The "borking" is a combination of the problems listed above. I'm going to do a factory reset and upgrade to ICS, as suggested, thanks. Will keep you posted.
Mid-point update: Successfully factory reset my phone (Volume up + Power on, factory reset, then reboot). Now my SIM card isn't recognised (sigh).
The same problem, but with a different device, is here:

It appears as if my modem software is messed up. The saga continues.
Solved! SIM working again.
...And miraculously it's solved!
I flashed a new ROM onto the device -- ICS, which is very shiny and new to me -- using Odin, and it came back to life perfectly. Useful links were:

[Q] x10 mini (not rooted) with Android 2.1 will not update market or any apps

I'm using a Sony Ericsson X10 mini (not rooted) that still suffices quite ok. However, after a while it tends to become slow. What I periodically do to make the device again a bit faster is reinstall the original firmware using Sony PC Companion. This re-installs the latest available firmware for the X10 mini, being 2.1-update1 (kernel version 2.1.1.A.0.6).
The last time I reinstalled the firmware I ran into an issue. After the installation I got to work installing a few apps. I noticed that all the apps that I install keep showing up in the market as "Installing", even though they are already installed and working properly. Switching the device off and on doesn't help. Also clearing the cache of Android Market did not resolve this. All these apps remain showing as "installing" in the market app.
I also noticed that the version of Android Market that I currently have is not the version of Android Market that I had before reinstalling the firmware. As far as I know, Google Play is not available on Android 2.1, but I definitely remember that I had a newer version of Android Market installed on Android 2.1 than the one that is installed now. From previous re-installations I remember that the device at some point would mention that Android Market needs to be updated. The same goes for some of the pre-installed apps such as Facebook and Google Maps. However, this time it does not give such a message at all. Opening Android Market also does not trigger any update at all. Also going into the settings and looking for updates does not trigger any update. Is there any way to force android to update the market and the pre-installed apps?
When I open Android Market and look in the "Downloads" section, it shows a list of all the apps that I had installed on the device previously. When I check play.google.com on my PC, it lists the same apps, but they show as "installed" on my phone. Even though I have not installed them yet. And I cannot find any way to remove these apps from the "My Apps" section on play.google.com. Could this be interfering with the android market app on my phone?
Is there any way to trigger Android to update the Android market and the other pre-installed apps? I'm very hesitant to go and root the device, that still appears to me as a lot of work. Especially since I know that it used to work correctly previously.
A small update in case somebody in the future encounters the same problem:
To find out whether it really is my Google account that interferes, I have opened a completely new Gmail account, and used that when setting up the phone after the firmware re-installation. And lo and behold: within a few minutes after the initial setup of the phone, the market application was suddenly replaced with version 2.3.6. No notification whatsoever, it was just suddenly there. I don't know the version number of the old Market app that I had. Somehow, the version numbering that is used in the application manager is different than the "2.3.6" formatting. The version number that is shown in settings>application manager went from 2002009. to 2002306.
Having the updated Market app, I wanted to relink the phone with my normal Gmail account. However, I found that apparently, you can only sync with a different Gmail account by resetting the entire phone, so that I have the original problem again. But at least the fact that the Market app updated itself allowed me to copy the updated market .apk file so that I could manually update the market after reinstalling the firmware. And having installed the new Market app, it also recognized the pre-installed aps such as Google Maps.
It should have been possible to delete your new gmail account in th settings app and add your old one. Failing that, doing a factory reset would have deleted all the user-data but still have kept the updated market-app.
