you have to be rooted. Download blade buddy from the market, click advanced settings then make sure the first box on the top is check marked. Then scroll down to dalvik heap and change it. Most people don't recommend going over 64m so be careful. Click menu then save, it will ask yes, yes and reboot and cancel I think. Press yes reboot then notice the difference after the reboot.

That advice is not really relevant to the Photon, since we have a full gig of RAM to work with.
On older Android phones, which had either 512mb of RAM or less, allocating 64mb or more of RAM to your DalvikVM Heap offered diminishing returns since that RAM would no longer be available for normal use.
As such, while increasing your DalvikVM Heapsize will help performance of our Photons, testing will be required to find the "sweet spot." It will also vary from user to user, depending on what apps you have and how you make use of your Photon.

xda member Flomexico stated:
On 88 and 96, I got a black screen and no response from the touchscreen or power button. Had to pull the battery.
I hit apply and restart UI just in case it didn't work. Good thing too.
and xda member Leechoonhwee stated:
Guys be careful of this setting as higher numbers dun necessary equates best performance.
Your memory is like a huge blank page of paper, the cache determines how many "words" can be written on a page before the system turn to another page. So more words, less pages, less words, more pages.
Paging cost responsiveness so you wouldnt want the system to turn too many pages but too many words on a page also costs CPU time to read thru the whole page.
Basically that is the concept so hope you guys can find the optimal value for optimal performance.
I just dont want anyone messing up their phone.

I am sure I have read posts re Alien and theme not working but cant find them.
Alien works great for me except that I cant get the theme to install (launch). Actually I run the installer form CWM and finishes OK (last version of CWM). I go by the rules. Unlocked, rooted, depeleated battery and recharging 100 %, install Alien, and reboot before the install the theme, clear data/factory defaults before starting everithing, use the Wipe Installer.... what else.. what can I do.. upon installing and rebooting it goes to the HOME launcher, not even the stock Gingerblur, so I have to get rid of that pice of crap
I swithed to Alien from Ronaldo´s ROM, wich is very straightforward and based on Kenn´s and also uses Alien script installer, so I don't have the slightest idea as to what I am doing wrong, missing, or if I am through a bug,
I would appreciate some good soul to help me.

Quadrant, or any benchmark, CAN mean something if you're constantly hacking your phone and want to see the effects. Comparing it to someone else's is tricky because no test can represent how you use the phone in actual situations.
You can turn off journaling on partitions and get an immediate jump. You can update the video driver, force hardware renering. Heck, you can even create a ramdisk and simlink all your files, too.
To me, everything is a trade-off. You gain performance by reducing security, battery life, memory/storage space, or whatever your mod does to it.
But I admit it's fun!!
Has anyone benchmarked read/write speed of the data partition yet? I want to compare it to my class 10 sd card to see if it's worthwhile to move some files around or not.
Oh, by the way, if you want to brag about high scores, you should use the older version (I think it was 1.x) of Quadrant as it reported higher scores. Time to dig out the backups!

What are everyone's thoughts on Vellamo? Kind of prefer that one myself. I aggree that most benchmarks can be inaccurate... But they're cinsistant enough that they're still effective for testing one phone to the other, or one Rom to the other in my experience.

WARNING:
Using this mod may decrease battery life, decrease screen life and/or quality, cause overheating, cause your phone to blow up or cause other damage to your phone. Use at your own risk. I am not responsible for any damage this mod causes to your phone.
This Mod will increase the max brightness of your phone by about 10%.
Note:
Auto Brightness must be turned off for this to work.
Root is required for this Mod.
Instructions:
Download and run app attached to this post.
Or. ..
echo 1 > /sys/class/backlight/panel/auto_brightness
If you reboot or enable auto brightness you have to run it again.
The best way to tell if it worked would be to run it when your screen is already at full brightness. You'll see it go a bit brighter.
Tested on T-Mobile Note II, but this may work in many Samsung Galaxy phones.

Any word on the effect on battery life?
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda premium
I have it bundled in CounterShrike 3.0, and available as a download for PAC-Man. In both cases, it's the background service only and not the app, but the effect is the same. I'm quite skeptical of performance tweaks, but so far, this one seems legit. It does not help general performance. It does help anything that uses entropy...app lauching, task switching (including return to home), many list based loads (Facebook newsfeed as one example), and so on.
The add on version I have is generic enough to run on any ROM and device as long as the kernel supports init.d. http://androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390233485161005378
Edit: I've seen zero battery impact. If anything, it may be a bit better, but that's totally subjective.
I'll give this a shot

Seems to make a slight difference only noticeable sometimes on inef dues. Antutu scores are the same. I think what I notice most is it being a little snappier between app switching. Hopefully it doesn't affect my battery life

Is it Seeder by LCIS for 1.49? I may try and see. But I already flashed that zip shrike posted so I'd have to restore my nandroid and then try it
So, what about the article on the portal about these claims of improvement being false? Does anyone have any real proof either way about this or is it just a placebo? When really amazing devs not only say it works but also include it in their ROMs, it makes you think there's a little more to it. Just curious.
Quite a few reputable devs out there saying this does nothing at all that's it's all placebo.
Idk if it's this or something else I flashed but my phone will not go over like 550mb of ram. So every app I open has to reload kind of

K if I remember when I restore my nandroid i'll try it and see. I can see a difference but on faster/newer phones or AOSP Roms you more than likely won't see any. But after flashing that it's definitely different. Not sure if it's for the better or not since I can only tell with switching apps.
Edit: I feel like any tweaked rom is going to do the same. I just bought that app and it made literally no difference. Maybe the difference I was seeing was from the animations I flashed. Lol interesting. I also notice my ram is being used better without the tweaks.. What do the tweaks actually do?
