[Q] Soft Reset without data wipe - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How do I soft reset?
Recently had the problem of the speaker being activated automatically when I make or receive calls
That is majorly annoying. I don't know why that happens, haven't been able to find a consistent pattern
Need to try a soft reset without data wipe first before considering other drastic measures
I'm on VR2.4.2, with niph 2.0.5

A soft reset is just a reboot. That won't wipe anything. Just make a titanium backup and do a factory reset.

Reboot as in off and then on the phone?
I had tried rebooting but the problem still persists... damn it
Any way to reset the settings back to factory default without wiping?

Soft & Hard Reset with custom rom

Hi,
I installed VillainRom 5.3. All is great and ok but it's not ok when I try to use RSS from HTC News app (not widget...and anybody has that issue). I get FC everytime. Then I can't reset also autokiller app.
I was thinking to try a soft or hard reset. Do you think is a good idea? Can I do it also with a custom rom? How can I do it?
Thank you.
Hard reset; taking out the battery,
Soft reset; close app/whatever and open it again.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm sure this is what it is, "Hard" reset being, hardware. "Soft" reset being software...

Yes, correct.
I made a hard reset and now I don't have anymore some apps of Villainrom I had before (3D Gallery, News and Weather, ecc..)
That's extreamy odd.. You just took out the Battery and restarted the phone?
Did you;
Flash the rom,
restart,
install apps,
froze,
hard reset
- missing apps?
Try and reflash the ROM with this method, or backup a previous Nandroid backup,
Go into recovery, restart + hold down Home
Wipe everything
Flash Latest Radio
Restart
Flash ROM
Restart + let ROM load, this will take a while (Up to 20 mins)
Have a look at your new rom, but don't bother doing anythign (Setting ect..)
Restart
Now, when the ROM loads it will be quicker and you can use it normaly
After a few restarts it tends to get slighty quicker.
Have fun
I solved the problem installing the new version of the ROM.

Two problems with Dj Steve 1.9.0

Just updated to DJ STEVE'S 1.9.0 rom and I keep having my browser force close after five minutes of use and the Android Market keeps on turning off and on my att connection. Is anyone else having these problems? Is there a fix for it?
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
Have you tried doing a factory reset yet ?.
He suggests that it might be a good idea after installing the ROM.
So a factory reset doesn't actually restore it to out of box? I was afraid to do one on mine.
HELLPPPP
The Regular Factory Reset that is in the settings or the one that is in the recovery? What will that do with the browser and the market?
Factory reset removes most of the data files and brings to it back to default.
Most of the common errors are corrected by this measure.
THis will wipe all apps. However u can reinstall them back from the market.
( most of the time it automatically installs)
So reset from settings or from recovery menu? Will I have to install the rom..

The factory reset after the installation of DJ's ROM will just remove any apps/settings etc that were carried over from your factory install but will leave the new ROM other wise intact.
And yeah to do the factory reset is just a matter of holding both Volume buttons along with the power button while powering on the machine from an OFF state . Select factory reset with the volume rocker then hit the camera button.
Still having problems...

Neo Factory Reset with Root question

Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone would shead some light onto a question I have spent a few days searching for on Google.
I have rooted my Xperia Neo (2.3.4) Using the Zergrush Runme.bar tool exploit and am now in need of factory resetting my phone to clear some problems.
The problem is, I don't know the exact way I should go about it and what problems which might incur. Here are my thoughts:
- Factory reset using privacy settings menu
- Unroot phone then do factory reset
What will happen?
Thanks everyone.
1st try Factory reset using Privacy setting menu
if it didn't help then try it with SUES,
Can you tell me, whats the problem you're facing ?

I'm worried about factory resetting if it might brick it.
The problems I'm having include sync errors, occasional resets and freezes and the homescreen being irrisponsive sometimes.
Thanks for the help buddy.

Then I'd try flashtool or SEUS immediately. Just to be sure.

I don't get it, How come factory reset will brick your phone ?
I just did it to check, and everything is working fine.
I recommend it before SEUS update!
Good luck

Put phone back to factory setting

usually that happen when you have installed application that might be blocking sending sms... remove the application and it should work...
if still happen... boot into recovery and do wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, fix permission...

I did factory reset but it didn't worked
odd...can you still make calls ...if so then the phone is electronically fine....verify the network settings and try selecting the operator manually rather than letting the phone do it automatically.
It could also be a firmware glitch..try a new firmware or re-install the existing one

Have you tried clearing the cache and data of the camera app? Not sure what to suggest other than trying a factory reset otherwise. (make sure to back your data up first though)

Hi
Thanks for your response. I have cleared the data and cache multiple times but no help. I am trying to avoid the factory reset as it my wife's phone and she will get my S10+ in couple of weeks once I get my S20 Ultra. Will reset the phone that time. Want to know if I am the only one facing this issue.
Thanks David

It worked fine for me on that build. You could try wiping the cache in recovery (when phone is off, hold the power, Bixby and volume up buttons at the same time until you see a blue screen, wait about 20 seconds and recovery options will show)
I have a similar problem.
Selfie camera and iris scanner not work.
Factory reset didn't work. I think the camera is gone
