What are the proper folders on the SD card to transfer videos, music, and photos to so that when you turn DLNA on, other devices will see them? Because no matter which computer or console I use, when the moto DLNA is on, it just shows empty folders and I'm guessing I'm not sending to the right folders. I prefer to just transfer to the phone by way of USB mass storage instead of using sync. Can anyone tell me which folders to create on the SD card? I notice a DLNA folder on the internal card but that didn't work and besides, I prefer to put media on the sd card I plugged in.
It might be reading your internal sd

No. It just doesn't seem to like any video I put on it no matter what the video. It likes my mp3s but is it just a bad DLNA server that doesn't recognize any of the popular video formats?

Guys,
Having now got my Samsung TV set up wirelessly I thought I would try AllShare on the SGSII and DLNA a few video files across.
However, what I am finding is AllShare does not seek out all movie files stored on either the internal SD or External_SD. It lists video's you have created using the default camera App.
Has anyone found a way to get AllShare to display movies you have transferred onto the SGSII?
Edited:
Sorted - See Post 7.
I seriously can not believe no one is interested in finding out why we can not display all video/photo and audio files.
I tried this on my Tab and sure enough Allshare does display other video files not stored in the camera folder, so it begs the question why is it the SGSII does not allow you to display them?
If this is correct and again I fail to see it's accuracy that would mean you can not show a movie you have on your external_sd card via Allshare. That sounds utterly preposterous.
Either I am missing something so simple it is eluding me or there is a problem with Allshare's ability in searching for and displaying all supported file's.
I don't want this topic to die without first a fight but if no one replies it will fold away in the depth's of xda-devs.
The Allshare apps on my SGSII has no problems listing videos not inside DCIM.
I've installed the Allshare app on my HTPC (Win7). Using the app on teh SGSII I'm able to playback videos in folder /sdcard/Movies (that's the internal card, don't have an external card to test with)

Thanks for replying, appreciated.
Well I am pleased to hear you can display and play other video media, this is how it should be.
Now if I can get someone to test the external sd as well then I will know if I have a problem with my Allshare.
Meanwhile I will try copying a few video's to the internal sd/movies folder and see if Allshare can pick them up. If so then it may be that Allshare does not list files on the external sd.
Weird as the Tab does.
Received my SD card today and moved the videos folder over from internal to external card. Allshare still shows the videos in the My Device tab > Videos view

Can you provide an accurate naming and directory of exactly where on the external_sd card they are stored please.
Maybe it's because I have mine buried too deep in the card for Allshare to pick them up.
As in say ~ sdcard/external_sd/movies/
/external_sd/Video/
In the Video folder I have mkvs and avi which I copied over.
Allshare could see them in KDD and now KE2 firmware. Didn't test with other firmwares.

That worked a treat.... Thanks, sorted.
What did you have to do, rename the Movies folder to Video?
No... When I tried that it still didn't display anything.
However when I moved the Movies folder to the root it then listed the files.
So weird.... naming the folder to Video's in the root displays nothing
Having the folder name Movies not in the root displays nothing.
.. but having the folder name Movies in the root works.
Talk about confusing.....
My next issue is with Music.
Any music in a folder named Music either in the root on the external_sd or directly in sdcard/ does not display anything inside that folder.
Where do you have your music stored and under what name?
Music is stored in /sdcard/Music/Artist/Album/track.mp3 and Allshare can see it all no problem.
I sync my music using WMP12 and it creates the Music folder and all subfolders. Works manually too.

Weird..... that is where I stored my folder named Music but Allshare finds nothing.
I'll have a closer look later... Just about to go back into theatre for this mornings Ops.
EDITED:
Well... I found the time in the end and what a surprise it is...
If I place the music where you did in sdcard/music/ Allshare does not display it.
But.. if I place it in sdcard/media/ the music files are then picked up?
it's awful and can't handle it when you have an sd card as well as internal storage. every time i transfer new songs onto the phone my playlists show up as empty and i have to remount usb, remove the doubletwist folder and dismount one drive before the other, then wait ages. if i dismount in the wrong order it doesn't work
any music player that can handle playlists that you can make on the PC and not on the phone?
if you're able to create a playlist with relativ filepaths it should work.
But as i know most players use the absolute filepath and this wont work on your phone.
Try a app called MUSIC FOLDER PLAYER. I don't know.if it's available from google play but you'll find it in Samsung apps. It's got some nice features a decent equaliser and plays each folder from where you left off. PS it's got a different name tagging feature so It may sort out your problem.

hmmmm never knew about this app would of come in handy a few days ago :/ How do u find the app does it sync itunes to your device in the same folder structure Itunes is in on your comp?
Have you had any problems with files not being seen by your device but being on the storage?
Right firstly on itunes u need to make ur music into playlists which basically means that u drag ur music (album for example) from the music to the bottom left of itunes
U need to download the tunesync for windoww as well as the app on ur phone
Type in tunesync in market its through the market there is a free try before u buy option and the full version
U can select in the androis app which folder to put it into. . U have choice of internal sd card but i wantdd external sd so u ned to point it to the external sd
There ia a free version to try first it only does 20 songs
U need in thr app to click on the sync enable
On the s3 set the path to /mnt/extSdCard/
It is well worth the money

Sync playlists and music from iTunes (MAC) to ext SD with Kies
I have posted in another thread a way to sync (with USB cable, then much faster than WiFi), whatever music you want from your MAC iTunes, including your iTunes playlist, to the external SD Card of your Galaxy S3.
Perhap you want to take a look to it and if it helps you.
Cheers,
Paco

I've transferred some video files to the SD card on the Z Ultra (using Sony Bridge for Mac) but the Z Ultra's Movie app does not recognize these files at all. I've tried to clear the data of Media Storage (in Apps -> All) and restart the phone to force a rescan of the media files but that doesn't seem to be able to resolve the problem. Also, strangely the phone DOES recognize video files stored in the Internal Phone Storage. It also DOES recognize music files stored on my SD card - so the only problem is with video files. Appreciate if you have a fix to this problem!

Thanks for your reply. I figured out a fix already. Just create a new folder called "Video 2" or something. Then, use the phone's File Commander app, move all those videos in the existing folder to the new "Video 2" folder. Then those videos will load in the Movies app.
Hi, I recently purchased one of these Android 4.1 Car stereo units http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2528349 (I've looked all over that thread and haven't been able to find a solution to my problem.)
I want to be able to use Doubletwist player as my main music player, and I want it to be able to read the files on my external usb hard drive (plugged into the back of the unit).
The unit recognizes the USB hard drive, as I can access all the files through certain other music players and through any file explorer. The problem is that Doubletwist won't recognize anything other than the internal storage and the SD card.
I emailed Doubletwist and they replied with this:
DoubleTwist Player uses two sources to recognize files (& the associated metadata) and playlists on the device.
1. Sync database created/updated by the computer application during a sync.
2. Android Media Scanner (AMS) database which is updated by the Android Media Database service.
So if the storage location isn't seen by the AMS service, doubleTwist Player will not import information about these files into it's database.

Is there any way to edit what directories the Android Media Service looks at? Then I could simply swap the sd card and usb drive directories (I don't use the SD card slot at all). Or does anyone have another solution to get this to work?
Alternatively, I just want decent music player similar to Doubletwist. I like Doubletwist's intuitive UI, the fact that it uses playlists and the fact that I can "play next" or "add to play queue".
I have tried Poweramp and I don't really like the interface, and Rocketplayer would have been fine but it is really buggy.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
P.S. Forgot to mention, the usb directory is /mnt/usb/mnt1
Any ideas?
