When first installed mik's CM7 on my LG P500, it comes with the standard Android System Recovery. I can reach this from holding down the POWER key, and it gives me an option from the drop down menu for (Reboot, Recovery etc.). When you choose Recovery, you get booted to the Android System Recovery menu.
Now, if you launch ROM Manager, and install CWM into your device, you have to launch the CWM recovery from within the ROM Manager app itself. Else, if you use the POWER key, and choose Recovery, you get stuck on the LG logo. There is no way out that I know of. I tried removing the battery etc. but to no avail.
So, I tried the only scenario I know, I booted into EMERGENCY MODE, and recovered the device using KDZ with a Telus firmware load for the LG P500, and gingerbreak the device again, and then re-wiped it and put back mik's CM7 OS on it again.
It was a weird scenario. Anyways, I now only use the ROM Manager and access the CWM recovery from the ROM Manager only.

Many people, including me, have faced issues with ROM manager. Some times when booting into recovery or taking a NAND backup, it performs a full wipe of the phone and it has been reported many times on this forum.
Are you saying that you installed Mik's CM for the first time through the Android recovery? The general procedure is to root -> install CWM recovery(either through ROM manager or through the android recovery) -> install the ROM through the CWM recovery. After this, whenever the 'Power' button is held, the 'boot into recovery' option would directly lead to CWM.
I installed CWM through ROM manager. It successfully installed CWM but wiped the phone completely. Stopped using ROM manager from then onwards.

If ROM manager works fine for you, then go ahead. It is the easier way to take backup/boot into recovery, but it does not work for me
it is safer to use CWM Recovery than Rom Manager installed on Cm7
Ok, what is the difference? Its the same thing isn't it? I am using CWM recovery but to get to CWM recovery, I am launching ROM Manager and choosing the option to boot to CWM recovery. I am not using the POWER button method option to get to the recovery. I am not certain the POWER button won't work but the last time I did that, I was hit with the stuck on LG Logo.
I did not notice that by holding down the POWER button, I have three options:
- reboot
- recovery
- bootloader
Not sure what the bootloader option does.

1. Booting to recovery through rom manager sucks because rom manager support for our phone is not correct.
2. Booting to recovery through power menu sucks because reboot in power menu causes an unclean shutdown which can screw with your filesystems.
So, in conclusion, don't use either of these methods, turn off the phone and use the button combination.

Ok. Interesting. Did not know that. I will use the button combination to get into the recovery. It does work for me from the ROM Manager, but who knows how long that might work for if its inconsistent for you guys with the same phone as well?

Just flashed this ROM using clockwork, only problem I ran into was clockwork will not reboot into recovery. Instead it reboots into samsung recovery.I would like to re-flash ROM. I am new to this, I was an iPhone user and it was pretty simple to reinstall operating system.
I use a macbook with snow leopard, what is going to be my best option to re-flash with the macbook. I have read about Odin, and ADB. But not really sure which to use or how to use them for just flashing a custom ROM.
Any help would be great!!!!1

Search for OS X...you can use Terminal to manually flash/reboot/etc. through utilities. Be careful though, the commands are slightly different.
I'm running OS X 10.4 (tiger) and never have to use the computer (outside of TGA_Gunman's one click root program)...everything can be done through the phone in most cases.
I have no problem getting it in this mode. I am trying to get it to boot into clockwork recovery, and the only thing that is loading is the stock kernal recovery menu.. So I am looking for a method that I can do it with my macbook. I have searched in google, and found other tutorials for other phones, but not the vibrant. If you know of one please let me know..

in sammy recovery hit 'reinstall packages' (may need to do this more than once) and it will reboot you to clockwork. then flash through clockwork like normal. this is why you need to leave the update.zip file on your sdcard after installing clockwork.

I never removed the zip file from sd card, in fact while looking at the files contained in clockwork mod file. It contains the same files as my other Vibrant that is running fine. Just doesn't have Bionics Obsidian 2.2 running on it..
I tried what you said about clicking on re-install and did that 5-6 times. That didn't improve the problem.

Back to the original Question, what is the easiest way to load different rom on my phone with my macbook?
Does the phone still boot up normally? If so, open Rom Manager and select "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery". Then select your device. Reboot into recovery and if you are still in the stock recovery, hit "Reinstall Packages". If that doesn't work, then I have no idea...
I've spent my entire day trying to flash a recovery image on my streak to no avail. I've rooted it using the super one click, have superuser on my device, along with clockworkmod.
I've confirmed my device is rooted using z4root.
I've tried flashing the recovery via clockwork, it says it was successful, yet when I reboot to recovery, I always end up in the regular OS, like all it did was reboot. Furthermore, trying to manually get there, holding down the buttons, tells me that the stanard recovery wasn't actually overwritten. When I go through fastboot and flash it that way, both computer and streak tell me that everything was successful. Yet, the recovery was still not overwritten.
My end goal is to put Steve's ROM on the streak, but I can't even get the recovery overwritten with clockworkmod.
I have a Dell Streak OEM:340. Thats the locked ATT version, which I think might be a part of the problem.
How do I end up with Steve's rom?
Sounds like you are using ROM manager? That does not work well with the Streak. See this article. ROM manager may actually flash your recovery, but does not work to start the phone in that mode.
You can flash the recovery image to your phone in fastboot mode. Here is a tool to help.
You get to fastboot mode by starting the Streak while holding the camera and power buttons at the same time. Then select fastboot from the top right of the screen and plug your phone into your computer. You will need the Dell drivers for this.
Also be aware that you need to rename install-recovery-sh to something else to prevent the stock recovery from being installed when the phone restarts. It's in the folder /etc. You have to use root explorer or an alternate method to do this, but it requires root.
I am using a ROM manger, but if that doesn't work as well, I'll stop.
I've been fastbooting it the majority of the time, flashing the ROM, but it says I've done it correctly, even though I obviously haven't. So far, all I know is that it's been rooted, and the recovery flashed via fastboot.

Have you renamed the install-recovery.sh file so that the custom recovery won't be replaced by the stock recovery when you reboot? If not - do so.
Make sure that the Streakdroid rom you want is in the root of the SD Card along with the install.txt file.
If you can get into fastboot mode and connect to your computer I suggest using MultiRecoveryFlasher Streakmod recovery. You can reboot the phone from there also.
When you reboot you want to get to recovery mode. Turn your phone off then press the power button tile the leds light up and as soon as they do hold down BOTH volume buttons. See this gallery for what Streammod recovery should look like. Selecting the #2 option will take you to the streakmod recovery options. You use the "apply sdcard:update.zip" to install the ROM.
See the release thread for the ROM you are installing for more info and post any problems or questions you have with the ROM in that thread.

The file install-recovery.sh is a script that runs each time your phone is started. It will replace a custom recovery (streakmod) with the stock recovery when your phone starts, so the next time you enter recovery mode you are back at the stock recovery.
If you are going to dstay with a stock ROM, but want a custom recovery you have to rename the file. The easiest way (IMO) is to use Root Explorer which is an app you have to buy. You just open root explorer and the open the folder named etc and find install-recovery.sh long pres on it to get a menu to pop up and then select rename.
You don't have to do that to get a streakdroid rom installed if you enter recovery without letting the phone restart first.
Put the streakdroid rom file and the install.tx on the root of your SD card
Turn your phone off
Turn phone on in fastboot mode (camera and power buttons at the same time)
Use this tool to to flash the recovery you want
Using the same tool you can reboot the phone
As the phone reboots (wait for the leds to turn on just like they do when you restart the phone) hold down BOTH volume buttons to enter recovery. If you let the phone boot normally and you have not renamed install-recovery.sh the custom recovery will be over written.
Select option 2 and you should be taken to the streakmod options (images here)
Select apply sdcard:update.zip from the recovery menu
There will be two options on the next screen, select the one that lets you navigate to/select a file and then select the ROM file you put on your SD Card.
The ROM should install, be patient when it reboots it can take a few minutes.

I've rooted, installed ROM Manager, wiped data and partitions, installed Odin, Used Odin to (supposedly) flash the DD_01142012.tar recovery to the device. Everything looks successful, but when booting back up ROM manager only gives me the option to go to "recovery setup" instead of the normal flash option. Even when I reboot it in recovery, it just goes to the standard android recovery screen. Any ideas on how to fix this? It may be painfully obvious, this is my first root.

Rom Manager does not work for this device ( I think ) and you should not use it. "DD_01142012.tar" is not just a recovery, it's the kernel too. They are integrated. Flash it again and hold power and vol-up during boot up to get to recovery then flash your rom...
Hi, I have this problem. I had rooted galaxy S3 i9300, with Android Revolution ROM. I wanted to flash Liquid Smooth ROM and I did something wrong because I soft bricked it. So I downloaded some stock ROM (Not the one I used to have, completely different one with older android I didn't notice version I looked for region) flashed it with Odin, then rooted phone with Odin and flashed CWM with Odin, so I could do nandroid restore of the older ROM I had. The problem is I can't get to CWM recovery. When I turn on phone while holding Vol-, Home and Power buttons, I don't see Samsung logo, I get straight to download mode. Somewhere I read that you need to install CWM first and then root, so I did that as well and it didn't help. Can I restore my backups some other way? Or what should I do?
Edit: I installed ROM manager and tried to install CWM. It downloaded and then I got Flashing 100/100 and nothing happened. It froze and CWM was not installed. Then I found app CWM (idk if it was there before I didn't notice it) So I tried to restore backup with that and it did not worked as well.
Actually I wouldn't mind using this older version, I would say it's faster than newer one, but my network is not working. No signal so I need to repair that fast bc I don't have any other backup phone.
I'd say your best bet would be to try:
Flashing your stock rom again using odin.
Let it reboot and load, then switch it off.
Go back into download mode and flash cwm or philz touch or whatever custom recovery you choose. Make sure you untick the reboot when finished option in odin or else the phone will revert back to stock recovery.
Unplug the phone and pull the battery.
Hold down the vol+ / home / power button for about 5 seconds and then let the power button go. This should load the recovery. Reboot from recovery and it should be a permanent fix.
I'd then root and apply supersu and then install a custom power menu (xposed module + gravitybox) which allows you to boot into recovery/download mode straight from the power menu.

I did what you said, installed stock ROM, right one (I guess), flashed cwm, unticked reboot, after that I unplugged phone and pulled out battery. And now, if I try to enter recovery I just enter download mode again. Idk what did I do wrong?

I got a little problem with my lg g5.. I've unrooted my phone for a couple weeks ago to try and update to the latests version of android but I'm stuck at the part of updating.
Currently my phone is running android version 6.0.1 but I've seen that there is a newer version and I would love to install it on my phone but the notification that is popping up every day is nog working.
Hope somebody can help me.. Im really bad at this kinda things.
Do you have TWRP installed as a custom recovery? If so I understand your need to flash the default recovery img or updating from the phone will fail on reboot.

Is there a way to check what custom recovery I've installed? It's been a while since I rooted my phone..

When I restart my phone and use those keys my phone is booting into the white screen where I can go into factory restore.. Do I need to install a custom recovery first?
Once in the white screen, to see if you do have a custom recovery installed, you need to select yes on both screens to enter the custom recovery. As I said before, if you do not have a custom recovery (such as TWRP) you will factory reset your phone and lose all settings so make backups first.
Before all that though, how did you root and into it your phone- that will give me an idea as to if you have a custom recovery installed

I've been using the bootloader unlock from this link
So you most likely flashed TWRP if you followed the instructions verbatim. How did in root?

Flashed the SuperSU with TWRP, it's down below at the tutorial page.
Now I only need to know what I need for the stock recovery and how I can update my phone
