pc connection problem - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've tried everything different os'es, different cables. NOTHING HELPS, uninstallation of the drivers . My hero doesn't even see any connection with debugging on or off what ever. If any have clue just tell me, and please don't say google it I did and every tutorial failed. So pls help

Try yo go to the HTC website and download the latest HTC hero drivers. Make sure to uninstall old drivers. See if that helps. Also, reboot your PC once you update the drivers.

Already have done it two or three times, I don't know maybe it's because of hboot which of course it is 1.76.
Cheers for reply anyway.

You using the stock sense ROM ? i had this problem as well where i was never given the choice to mount and even when i selected it in settings it still did not matter, all it would do was charge my phone, HTC sync never worked either.
Never found a solution so switched to a different ROM

ok but how did you do it? I cant switch to another rom because I cant get to recovery. I tried Amon and clockwork I made several attempts with one success.
So pls tell me how you did it?
cheers

there is a super one click root app, use that first, then install clockwork, now you will have root access, then you are free to flash any rom compatible with the hero.

Reverting to stock ROM from Villain6?

As title says. Had Villain installed on my Hero, and looking to put stock back onto it, I don't care if this "un-roots" it either. Is this possible?
I've tried downloading the normal RRU and that malarky and it just won't recognise the USB through the HTC client, always comes up with the same error. I read around and saw that a ROOT cannot be used / put on without using a custom rom, so is there any way of getting a stock rom on, or reversing things? I think you guys get the idea of what I'm on about.. cheers!
(p.s. Doing this because I've got a Legend now, and selling my Hero soon..).
Re: Reverting to stock ROM from Villian6?
There is a guide by BTDAG in the development section called something like " Setting up drivers for x86 x64", should be on pg 1, 2 or 3 in Development. Use that to make sure the drivers for HTC Sync are set up correct.

I tried the guide you suggested, downloaded it all and so on.
Did it all a few times just to check I was installing my drivers properly.
Everything reads fine now driver wise, but still comes up with the error when running the RRU and analysing my Hero.
Do I need to install a different, fresh OS of some form as something seems wrong with mine now I've probably screwed with it or...?
Help would be appreciated in any form..

You got the goldcard in the phone? Or is it a USB error?

Goldcard? It says it's a USB error when the prompt comes up.
I had more or less the same problem.
If I'm not wrong, the application "HTC Sync" has to be present on your ROM to make the RUU installation possible.
This application could has been removed from the ROM you're using to save phone memory.
Try to reinstall this "HTC Sync" on your phone and try the RUU again.
And how do you install HTC Sync on your HERO with custom ROM?
I've got the same problem... But I also can't find the RUU for Belgium...
You have to find the apk PCSCII.apk and push it to /system/app of your phone.
Take a look here :
http: //forum. xda-developers. com/showthread.php?t=588351&page=37
Even more simple :
restore the nandroid backup your should have been done before installing the custom ROM your are using, then try to RUU
Funny, i tried goldcard and most of the other guides. But in the end, i found out that it only worked when i flashed the stock rom i wanted to downgrade to, from bootloader.
Then run the RUU setup for the rom you have flashed on the phone..
Worked for me

And then my HTC Sync is installed?
Install the application HTC Sync on your pc,
if this application detect your phone and you see sync icon in the notification bar, the RUU should recognise it as well and you would be able to revert to stock.

Trying to root/flash my Hero (Three UK) but nothing works

Hey all,
I have a Hero on 3 UK network and since the stupid network dont seem to be releasing any updates for it, I want to root it and manually put 2.1/2.2 on there.
Problem is, NONE of the guides on how to flash it work.
Here's what I've tried so far:
Goldcard method - I have succesfully created a goldcard using a Kingston 1GB card (tested on a Desire and works). Trying to downgrade to the stock HTC ROM using HTC's RUU gives me error 140 (bootloader version error).
Rooting the phone - Phone is all hooked up to ADB, can poll it for information etc. Tried to boot it into a recovery image but get an error saying the following: "downloading 'boot.img'... FAILED (remote: not allow)"
Alternate rooting method - So I found out ROM version 2.73 or whatever it is has some kind of extra security on it. The guides are advising me to download flashrec.apk and install on phone to backup then flash the recovery sector of the phone. This doesnt work. I can neither backup nor apply the recovery images. Even if I override the backup part, it still wont work Just gives me yet another error.
Seems that my Hero is locked down with some impossible to break security. Anyone else having the same difficulty with Three UK? If so are there any other ways you guys may have come up with to root/flash your phone? I'm getting really pissed off with it and am probably going to do an insurance job on it if I cant flash it.
FYI, this phone has not been updated since August 2009. Everything on it is stock from Three UK.
Versions (if you think it's useful):
Firmware: 1.5
Build: 2.73.771.62
Baseband (radio): 63.18.55.06IU_6.35.08.22
Kernel: 2.6.27-430d1aea
Any help I shall be most grateful for!!
Follow my newbie guide. Should talk you through it step by step.
The bootloader error is probably a driver thing. Update your HTC Sync and it should update the drivers.
Sorry, just noticed the thread got moved, my mistake.
Anyone able to shed any more light on it?
I followed the noobie guide and it didnt work. I have the latest version of HTC Sync installed.
Insurance job looking more likely.
Still with error 140? Did you update the driver in fastboot / bootloader mode?
Alternatively try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=726118

Which one is your noobie thread mate? I followed several threads off this forum all claiming to be noobie. TBH, they were all pretty straight forward enough, and worked when I helped my mate flash his Desire.
Min can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=645253 (it's also in my signature )
Ok yeah, I'll just go over the points in your guide then explain how it failed...
Using Flashrec to backup and apply a recovery image...
Flashrec simply doesnt work on my phone (have tried about 3 different versions, including the very latest which is 1.13). No functions work. Cant even use the bypass backup button (hidden button to the right of backup button). That section ended there for me.
Goldcard method...
No matter what RUU I try to downgrade to, it does not work. Keep getting error 140 (incorrect bootloader version). The goldcard I made definitely works as we used the same one to downgrade my mates Desire today.
I found some other guides, which looked like they might help as they go a bit further, but ultimately every time I try and actually do something, it gets blocked, access denied or some other error.
Flashrec won't work if you're on the wrong version of android (i.e. not downgraded using goldcard).
Goldcard is fine it is most likely your drivers in your bootloader mode that are wrong - check them first.
Drivers were ok. I managed to downgrade using a newer version of the stock HTC ROM after scouring these forums for hours.
So in short... ALL GOOD.
Only problem I have now is that there is no manual update option on eclair (1.5). The 2.1 FOTA updates attempted to download before I setup the WiFi and now it wont come back.
If you want to stay official then you can put the month forward a few and the update should show up again.
Surely the point of this was to get root and a custom rom though no?
The point was actually to get Droid 2.1 'cos 3Uk are dragging their heels big time, but now opens up the options of loading custom ROM's.
TBH I'm happy just to have 2.1. Eclair was doing my head in with all its bugs.
Thanks for the tip with the date - it worked!
i wounder if you did it or not ? cuz o have the same demmn problem with my hero G2 touch t-mobile nothing work for me i try all methods i think last solution is to bring a big hummer and break it as i like (
Fellow 3 UK Hero Owner
I'd just like to add how angry I was when the 2.1 update failed to show up. The Goldcard method worked perfectly for me, then I looked at custom ROMs. I currently run Gingerbread and I have to say, not only is it SUPER fast and smooth but its way less buggy than the stock Hero ROMs.
I'm with the Cronos crew. To get the latest ROM, search for cronosproject (.org) and click forums. (cant post link because i haven't posted 8 times )
Seriously, you wont regret it
best way to fix this is...... make sure u have a file manager, download universal androot to your computer and then to your phone install through file manger and root phone then once rooted install rec image with rom manager from market.....there you go its rooted now follow my guide to flash custom roms properly and to root phones....
mayb its ur android version
may i please know it i can surely help you

Can't root/achieve CWM what-so-ever..

Hi
I'm trying to root & put a custom ROM on my sister's Legend, and what ever I try it doesn't seem to work (I only have experience with samsung devices)
I've tried;
•The customized CWM with fake-flash. (Says signature is wrong or smthing, tried both Koush's and BlaY0's)
•Using goldcard (even though the phone isn't branded) and trying to root it by following MoDaCo's guide. (Step2.bat won't work, says device is offline)
Whatever I try, it always comes up some sort of error, and as soon as I've worked my way around it, it comes a new etc. I don't have the device here so I can't tell if I have the correct bootloader/ROM version.. (All I know is that is has Froyo )
Oh, I have the ADB drivers correctly installed, and HTC sync etc.
Please don't tell me to use the search, all of us knows how "great" it is on the XDA app..

Rooted successfully with RegawMOD with only one hitch

First let me apologize for knowingly posting in the wrong section. I'm a noob I am not allowed to post this in the appropriate thread found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1690919
I took the plunge today and finally rooted my EVO 4G LTE. RegawMOD worked great and I'm now rooted. The hiccup I ran into was even covered in the thread, but not mentioned in the original instructions.
Possibly relevant info:
- completely stock phone running 1.22.651.3 with hboot 1.15.0000.
- Win7 64 bit
- installed .NET
- installed HTC drivers
- DL'd x64 version of RegawMOD
When running the RegawMOD exe for the first time I got the "Necessary HTC driver files are missing. Please get drivers by installing HTC Sync, or directly with the driver zip (advanced)" error message.
The fix that was posted worked. I installed HTC Sync and had to connect my phone with HTC Sync running. Once it found my phone I was good to go with the rest. No further problems at all.
Side Note: regaw_leinad posted to the person who ran into the same problem to check for "C:\Windows\system32\drivers\ANDROIDUSB.sys or C:\Windows\syswow64\drivers\ANDROIDUSB.sys"
After installing .NET, HTC drivers and HTC Sync I didn't have either of those. After HTC Sync found my phone it installed I have the .sys file in my system32\drivers folder but not the syswow64 directory.
So, what are u asking? Are u on a x86 (32 bit) or 64 bit version of windows?
I remember only downloading one or the other when I rooted using that method. Can't remember which because I use so many different computers at work.
Try uninstalling what you have and download it all again to the same folder. The root zip, drivers, etc all in the same place with no subfolders. I.E.: C:/(all downloads here)
Ask me about my ability to annoy complete strangers!
So.......... it worked.......?
Yup, it worked and I've since flashed Viper4G and so far I'm loving it. I suppose you guys don't get too many noobs signing up to thank you and offering a suggestion as opposed to asking for help.
It appears that in my writing and editing I accidentally removed the suggestion that I wanted to offer. That is, that it may be beneficial to add a clause about that hitch in the original instructions in that thread. While I didn't read all 90+ pages, it seems I'm not the first or last to have experienced that issue.
I also thought it might be beneficial to report my experience (this may be the noob in me coming out). As the last few pages of the thread are all problems that people are running into I thought it may be beneficial for the regawMOD makers to know that the latest version worked almost perfectly with my setup.
the reason it doesnt find the drivers after you install them is because they get unpacked, they still havent been installed, if you turn on debugging and plug phone into pc it will install drivers, then when you start regawmod and the phone reboots then at the bootloader it will install yet another driver and youre good to go, no need to install htc sync
I used the RegawMOD and all it did was unlock my evo 4g lte, now I can't root, I tried everything I can find, I can't put in root nor put in twrp recovery I don't know what to do pls help

[Q] Root and custom ROM without PC connection (Gingerbread 2.3.3)

Hello, I just got a Samsung Galaxy S2 from a friend (Stock firmware GB 2.3.3)
For some reason I am not able to establish a connection between the phone and the PC.
I tried to install and reinstall Kies and/or the drivers multiple times (and everyone of the other suggestions i found with google) but with no success. The phone recognizes that it's been charged when the cable is plugged in and sometimes the phone even indicates that it's establishing a connection to kies (but this appears randomly, not always). On the PC there's no sign of any connection to the phone, neither Kies connects to it nor the phone is shown as any kind of device in the device-manager or in explorer ("adb devices" and Odin also don't recognize the phone).
Since my fathers S2 (2.3.6 Stock Firmware) connects fine with the same drivers and cable i finally gave up searching for any any other possible reason than a damaged connector on the phone.
So i tried to search for ways to root the phone, put CWM on it and a custom ROM without any PC connection.
I encountered some things like signed custom kernels that should grant you root access, an exploitation, ...
The exploitation didn't work out for my phone, and the kernels I've found are for Jellybean or ICS, so not suitable for my Gingerbread-Firmware,
I've found some older threads on various websites that promised such kernels for Gingerbread, but there were either dead links or nothing suitable for my phone.
So now I'd like to ask the community if anyone knows any signed kernel to gain root access for my phone, or any other way to accomplish my task of upgrading to a custom firmware, or if there's no possible way to do this and I should stop wasting m time on this...
(btw, for some reason the update of the firmware via WiFi doesn't work either, so I would be glad if anyone just knows a way to upgrade to a newer stock-firmware)
My phone:
model: GT-I9100
Android: 2.3.3
Baseband: I9100NEKD5
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKE1-CL181974
Buildnr.: GINGERBREAD.XWKE1
thank you all in advance
Can you download and install the latest version of Odin and check if it recognises that your phone is connected?
Let me know
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
You can try ExynosAbuse ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2050297) for rooting; not sure if it works for gingerbread though.
Once you're rooted you should be able to flash cwm with MobileOdinPro (costs 5 bucks; https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.mobileodin.pro)

Try these:
Boot to recovery and factory reset (backup any pics etc if required)
Set debugging in usb access
Try other usb ports on the pc.
I wanted the same thing untill it took me 2 weeks to decide I wanted to flash in odin. Swapping to a different port gave me access.
Good luck.

This is what I tried too and for me it didn't work. I got the same problem as TO. I'm going to try some more stuff and if it would work i'll let you know and will follow this.
ps. I even have switched the board inside with the micro usb connector. Didn't work. I am on 4.0.4.
I already tried if Odin recognizes my phone -> no success...
I also tried ExynosAbuse before, it tells me when I start the app made by chainfire, that my device is unable to be rooted via this method.
And I've already tried to connect through every single port on every single computer that's available to me, still no success...
The only chance a can see right now might be to find a signed kernel that gives me root-access via the "install update from SD card" function, I've already found a few, but none of them was suitable for my device...
The problem is that this firmware apparently is that "old", that most of the results when searching for this topic are JB or ICS-related.

You really gotta get your device rooted and flashed (mobile odin pro might is a good choice)
Don't you have an External SD card? if not, I'm sure you know someone who does.
Once you get it, you can get your device rooted & flash whatever you want via recovery.
And remember, you can always say to your dad "hey old man, how about this: I give you my phone, and you give me yours".

Yes, I do have an external SD card, but as far as I know, to flash your phone via MobileOdin it needs root access, and I still haven't figured out how to grant my applications root access on this device without any PC connection... I haven't found any useable kernel/update yet that helps me with my problem and can be installed without the phone being rooted already... If you know one, I would be glad if you could tell me
I already tried to negotiate with my dad but he doesnt seem very cooperative. He didn't like the fact that my phone has an older firmware than his and that I haven't found a way to update it... (Somehow the firmware-update via WiFi doesn't work too, it tells me everytime that the phone failed to connect to the server)

lol, okay, stop and read for a min.
You can root your device with that SD card.
Read this guy's method.
After you root it, you're up for some flashing.
But take it one step at the time.
If we get you to flash a nice looking ROM, your dad's gonna say something like this "hey, that's a nice looking OS you got there, how about I give you mine + 100 bucks"
About the OTA (over the air) update, I recall reading something about it. I'ma see if I can find a thread about that.
Also, you might like to try removing kies from your system (every last trace of it) and reinstalling the latest version. Then try connecting the phone again.

Quantity rather than quality lol.
Yes, this method doesn't work on GB, I've tried this before with a huge load of different CWM-bootloaders from a lot of different sources and it always throws an "signature verification failed" or "failed to verify whole-file signature" error or both...
Isn't there any similar way to do this on GB? I've been an iPhone user for a few years now and didn't check the android hacking/modding community very often and because of this I'm not aware of any rooting methods that may have been available back then...
All you need to do is use the exynos exploit to gain root. You can do this via a simple apk.
Once you have root install Mobile Odin and flash Siyah kernel (.tar) to get custom kernel, cwm recovery etc.
Then you're off! Just reboot into recovery and wipe/flash away :good:

Unfortunately the ExynosAbuse-method isn't an option for me neither...
EDIT:
found this in the changelog of ExynosAbuse (added in v1.20):
- Gingerbread-related fixes - note that not all Gingerbread firmwares of affected devices are vulnerable (for example, I know several SGS2 GB firmwares are not exploitable)
I think that unfortunately I have one of those firmwares...
What about changing the usb board.
If nothing else works this will be my last option in the end i guess, but I'd rather prefer a software-based solution because I assume it might be a bit cheaper
Looks like your only option to me.
try this
open the phone dialer
enter *#7284#
then make sure your phone is set to usb mode
you can try switching it to modem or the other option then reboot phone
then enter code again and pick usb option
you might need to reboot again
I had a problem in the past where USB would not connect and when I did the above it worked.

You, Sir, are my personal hero from now on I couldn't really try by now if this solved the problem with the USB-connection, but somehow it solved the problem with the firmware-update per WiFi, and now I was able to update to the newest ICS-firmware available to my device. And hopefully I will be able to root it now with one of the signed kernels available for ICS-firmware
