[Q] is it safe to root before unlocking? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have searched everywhere for this, but couldnt find anything...
I just want to know if it is safe to root with the preinstall method to make a backup of my apps before i unlock.
I am on an at&t atrix running 4.5.91/2.3.4 (gingerbread)

While I haven't unlocked my device yet, I can't see why not?
Everyone around here was rooted with one form of method or another before unlocking even existed...

Search Samsung Galaxy S Unlock tool on the market. This is the easiest way to unlock your phone.
Does it work?

Yes it worked great for me. I was on stock rom and rooted though. I was able to start using my AT&T sim card after I did it.
as mentioned above.. go to Market, and look for SGS Unlock, if the free version can not generate the unlock code, go for the Pro version.. or you could do it yourself for free by following instructions here:

Photon 4G rootable yet?

Has anyone managed to root the Photon yet?
No the phone is apparently locked down tight

I know its too soon but I am not referring to the locked bootloader. Being able to root should work even though its a locked bootloader. Locke bootloader just means you can't load custom roms and make changes to the kernel.
So hopefully someone comes out with a method to root the phone. Even the Atrix was rootable but just couldn't load custom ROMs.
Don't know if this will work yet but the Atrix method suggest that it can be done without unlocking the BL... see:
http://wiki.rootzwiki.com/index.php/Motorola_Atrix
and for live links to to the images and files (I think). I haven't tried them yet, don't know if they are the same or even right):

Seeing that the Atrix recently bad its bootloader unlocked, that might help the devs in finding a method for the Photon.

Rooted?

This may be a stupid question but do we have root yet because I don't see anything on any of the forums showing a instruction on how to root the LG OG? I do see there's a couple mods and project free Gee but I'm not quite sure what that is there's no explanation on how to use it or the function. Also I see that there's CWM and TWRP so I'm assuming that there is a root I just don't know how to do it.

And bootstrap is a recovery that allows you to backup your current rom and also flash other roms

Worked fine for me.
If all you want is whatsapp, I don't think you need to root your device. However, doomlord's rooting kit works with locked and unlocked bootloader.
everyone will tell you to use search, solution for your "issue" are easy to find. Read a little the stickies.
No need to root for installing an app, if you have the apk you have to check unknown source in security setting to install, if it's play store then you have nothing to do.
For the rooting script to work check android debug in dev options (don't ask how to enable dev options!)
