[Q] Yeah, I was drunk one night... - Optimus One, P500, V General

How all the great stories start..
is the optimus one known to have screen issues if splashed with water? I fell into a lake but held my phone up above me so it really only got splashed.. But the touch screen is completely screwed. Won't touch properly at all.
Does anyone have a fix?

First, please change the title of the thread. People can't come and read the whole contents on just to know what the issue is.
And if the water just splashed on the screen, I don't think it would screw it up. But it depends. Better take it to a service center as it is a hardware related issue and I don't think you can get much help on it here.

Did u even turn it off and completely dry it out? If not, I recommend u take out the battery/SIM and bury it in a bowl full of rice... Rice gathers/draws all of the moisture out of the object... Read more here: http://www.wikihow.com/Save-a-Wet-Cell-Phone
BTW, never turn on a wet electronic device!!! If that doesn't help, I think u already shorted it out... Do what gkhartik16 said: "Better take it to a service center as it is a hardware related issue".

Try it.. you're lucky if it really works.
Also, do not forget to change the thread title and if any method like this one from spellspark works out, add the tag [SOLVED] to the thread title, so that it may help the users here. Many people fall into lakes while being drunk

When I get something wet I immediately pull the battery and put the device face down so the water drains away from the pcb.
You know how putting a slice of bread into a container of brown sugar softens up the sugar for use? The lake guy could put his phone into his moms brown sugar stash to soften it up for her and it would dry the phone. Same as the rice, but who wants soft rice in the container?

My screen died :\

So, I was at school and my phone was fine, it was in my pocket. During the day I take it off to check what time it was, and half the screen was black with two green lines on the right side (check pic). There was no collision while it was in my pocket, nor I let it fall so I don't understand what happened :\
It's still on warranty so I'm lucky I guess, but it still sucks.
Anyone has any idea of might have happened?
Certainly looks like the screen was stressed to me. I always keep my phone with the screen facing my leg with nothing else in my pocket.

that looks bad. did you try pressing the screen a bit, not too firmly though. do you have a custom rom?
Do you use tight jeans? that may explain the stress if you somehow "flexed" too much

The overclock was high (806), but never had any FC or warnings, and I've had it like that for a month now, didn't have any overheat issues either. Problem is they probably won't replace it immediatly, they'll try to repair first, which means it'll take some time, so that's a bit lame but I'll just have to wait I guess.

[Q] Vibrant + water = ?

I may have done my phone in this time... it fell into a tub of water for no more than three seconds while on. I think this may do what all my tinkering/Odin-ing/Heimdall-ing never managed to do. I grabbed it an took the battery out and I am currently in the process of taking it apart using the little blue tool that I got along with the new ffc camera that I have yet to install.
Has anyone dropped this phone in water while on and it not be negatively affected?

have saved many a phone from davy jones' locker with this method.
My friend's Vibrant fell on a bucket of water and it still worked.
And my Vibrant has washed it's face with me in the mornings and eaten ice cream (I think it wanted to try the next update, but the wrong way)
I think it will survive.
Just don't turn it on or anything until you are completely sure it's try.

The phone is currently completely taken apart and in a bed of brown rice inside a tightly sealed tupperware container. I shall post results of the procedure later... although I don't know how much longer I should wait. I'll give it at least a day, but I'm open to suggestions. I guess I should say that when I opened the phone I didn't notice that water had made it anywhere onto the motherboard, but it's possible that I missed it.
Mine took a dive into the toilet and didnt have any issues. The seal is pretty tight and the air inside the case doesnt escape through the USB/Headphone jack easily. If there was no water in the battery compartment you are probably safe but 24 hours in rice was still done just in case. Been about a month now.

Mine too decided it was a good day for a dip in the pool on Monday... I simply took the battery, SIM and SD cards out, wrapped it in 8 socks and threw it in the dryer with a load of dry laundry for 15min...
It wouldn't turn on with the power button... so I plugged it into my computer and the charge indicator came one. From then on, everything worked great!

No it isn't.
Once more - It's not dry enough.
Once more - get it in rice, silicate packets work too, and leave it alone - don't even think about touching it for 5 days.
Keep trying it while it's still not 100% dry, and you'll make it worse - guaranteed.
And whoever said take it apart - correct. You need the max surface area to be exposed to the dessicant.

[Q] Internal Memory is dead?

Long story short, I dropped an incredibly minimal amount of water on my HTC amaze today from a water bottle leaking in my back pack. Once, I reached for my phone I saw that it was for some reason or another back to factory state. All contacts, and stuff gone. All my downloaded apps as well. However, my pictures and songs are still there.
So what just happened? And what should I do? I have it baking in the Texas sun right now. Additionally, the power button is non-functional as well.

Warranty doesn't cover damage you do to the phone, only manufacturer's defects. If you don't have insurance on the phone then your only option is to call HTC and see how much it will be to fix it, or buy another device. That's it.

Unless you manage to find water damage stickers for your specific device, or manage to somehow turn it back to white, i read about people putting drops of bleach on the water damage stickers, i've never tried it (thankfully i have not dropped any phone of mine in water), but i'd just ask tmobile how much to replace it, insurance is only 7 bucks a month so i'd get it.

As far as I can tell there isn't any permanent damage. I've tried out all the buttons and stuff. Anything I should look out for to see if there is permanent damage to any part of the circuitry? I'm just doing the usual stuff like checking it can find my location, download files, swype, take pics, play games, etc etc.

[Q]SGS 2 goes into the wash tub for 5 mins!!!

Short Version:
So here I am with a i9100 drowned in wash tub for almost 5 mins. Now trying to dry it up. Don't know what will happen. Will keep you guys posted.
Long Version:
Just came out shower and kept my phone in pants. Went for packing bag as I had to travel today. Wore my jeans and kept that pant away with the phone in it. Left to another room for packing. After coming back the pant had vanished. Enquired about the pant to my mom and she told the she soaked the pant in wash tub. It was like 5 mins. Rushed to the wash tub and removed the phone, removed battery and shook off and removed a lot of water. Now the phone is lying in pieces and kept under 60W bulb. Lets see will dry this thing up for 16 hrs and then insert the battery.
Guys your tips and comments will be really helpful for resurrecting the i9100.
Leave for a week in a container of rice.If that doesnt cure it,claim off of house insurance.......or sue your mother.
Rice is best for drying the phone completely. It just soaks up all the moisture.

UPDATE 1:
The battery is having a soap like corrosion on the extreme right pin. I think the battery is short circuited. Maybe i will have to check a new battery at a local retailer to just test whether the phone is alive or dead. BTW 20 hours of phone warming (under a 60W bulb) completed. Phone is pretty warm and I dont think insides must be wet now. Also the phone seems to be much shinier than before

UPDATE FINAL:
So put in my battery today and the phone refused to show any sign of life. Ultimately took my phone to service centre. They opened up the phone and inspected it. The inspection revealed that:
1. The mainboard is dead
2. The digitizer connector adapter is damaged. Still further if the phone boots up further damage could be assessed.
The cost for the repairs were claimed as INR 15000 ($285) which is way too costly. Maybe I will have to give my phone. Hmmm I am thinking to buy a Galaxy Nexus now. I cant afford an S2 again now nor a repaired S2. It feels really sad to loose my beloved phone.
Miracle Update:
Was missing my phone today so thought should start up my phone. And miracle happened. The phone booted up after attaching the charger. Awesome stuff. Samsung rocks in terms of hardware. Now only two things are not working blue tooth and the phone is not getting via charger. And some stains are found on inner glass of back camera lens. Rest each and everything rocks! I am really happy with build quality.
