Hi all
I am having an issue with the backlights behind the soft keys. Sometimes they light up, other times they do not.
Is this a common issue? Is it possible software related, or is it definitely going to be a hardware problem?
Many thanks
James

i started to get this also on CM7 but i also changed the backlight density to lower then it was from 20 to 1 so i think that might be the issue for me
I have WTFOMGBBQ backlit softkey lighting control on my aria and inspire, but ATRIX is okay (actually, it's always on when the phone is on).

I think I may have been embarrassingly stupid here. I did not realise the lights behind the buttons were connected to the light sensor. It is possible I have just been using the phone in light conditions right on the cusp of the on/off and hence, it can look a little odd.
I will keep an eye on it for the time being and assume it was me, not Motorola's engineering, at fault.
Thanks for the responses.

So I thought I was the only one with this issue until I came across a Youtube video showing another EVO 3D with this issue. Sometimes the backlight on the capacitive buttons on my phone won't be lit except for a small portion of the right side of the search button. Anyone else have this issue? Usually a reboot fixes this.

Same here. The search key will never fully go out.
I'm starting to wonder if this is a defect or hopefully a software bug that can be fixed through an OTA update.

I suspect it to be some sort actual defect. I'm not anticipating it being fixable, until further hardware revisions to the phone. Hopefully I'm wrong, but we shall see.

I do not think it is really much of an issue. It has to be fairly dark to even notice the problem and if it is that dark the capacitive buttons back lights should be on anyways. I only realized it because I was forceably turning off the capacitive buttons back lights as well as the charging LED using tasker at night when I put my phone into my dock at night.
I have this problem but its only during boot... Nbd...

My "DU4L C0R3 SH00T3R" shot you down in 3D! -Security Off-
That's interesting
Does everyone else have the same thing on their 3d or is it something I should be concerned about????

Short answer: probably not
Longer answer: Depending on which custom recovery you're using, the support for the capacitive buttons isn't really fully present. At one point in TWRP development there was support but I've read there are issues with the kernel HTC released and capacitive button support on the EVO 3D.
As long as you reboot and the LEDs are off, there shouldn't be any issue other than a small over looked bug in the recovery.
Which custom recovery are you using?
Hope that helps!
I am using TWRP..., Which recovery do you thing is best??
It happens to me also....

You must be confused by Joeykrim's answer. Lol.
I'm sure he was thinking you meant something else.
I'm guessing that when the screen is really bright and all the capacitives are off it looks like the Search button is still half way lit. Am I right?
This has nothing to do with any software/firmware/rom/recovery. Its a physical flaw IN the phone. The LCD display panel isn't properly encased. So the backlight of the screen bleeds into the capacitive search buttons area. It happens on more 3D's than it doesn't. I tried taking mine apart and fixing it. But it hasn't helped. :-\

This makes sense(pun intended) to me and sounds quite logical.... Thanks a bunch felacio
I just bought SSGS2 last week, and i noticed that when i make a call, this the red light will be blinking/flashing. When I compare it to other SSGS2, all of which will have a red light on when make a phone call (not blinking/flashing).
So I was wondering if anyone had the blinking light?
As far as I am concerned, it does not affect usage just yet.
But who knows...it might be a sign of inferior sensor.
Thank you.

What red lights are you reffering to. there are no LED's on the SGS2 that I know of, wish there were.

Use your phone in the dark, you will see a very dim red glow where the proximity sensor is.
Thank you.
Should it be blinking? or stay on while calling?
Mine is blinking. Those of my friends stay on
can some one please advise, Proximity Sensor should be Blinking/Flashing or solid On when you are on call?
It's blinking for me as well... Why are you guys so paranoid. Is it working? Yes it is.
It blinks extremely quickly, seems like 20 times a second. I can in indoors lighting clearly.

not paranoid mate, just want to find out if this is normal, yes so far this is not affecting performance.
Well my so called proximity sensor "red dot" keeps flickering while in standby/phone locked. I understand it's suppose to be on while on a call etc. but what when the phone is lying idle?
same problem!

I have the exact same problem since yesterday.. have u solved it ? pls help!! it's really annoying
kindly email me if you have method to solve it . [email protected]
I dont know if this is relevant but I've had both the i9100 and the i9100G. On the G variant the blinking of the proximity sensor was pronounced and noticeable.. whereas on the international variant I've never yet noticed it blinking or staying on. Maybe you have the G variant?

If you have Viber, uninstall it! I had that issue few days back. actually I just uninstalled it because it was draining my juice but the then after getting rid of the viber app my proximity sensor was no longer blinking like crazy.
Since I dont use Viber I unistall it.

Is anyone else having issues with the capacitive touch buttons not lighting up? I am not in power saver mode and my buttons only light up every once in awhile. Seemingly random.

Mine lights up when the LCD turns on and also on low light environment. This seems to be the normal behavior from what I read.
That's what I assumed usual behavior would be, and mine sometimes acts just like that. But most of the time they don't turn on at all. I'll be rooting and flashing soon and hopefully that'll fix it
Does anyone have any ideas in the meantime or maybe I'm missing a setting?

They are supposed to light up? Wow, I don't think I've had that happen at all. Is there a way to keep them on? I was thinking to myself it was annoying not being able to see them clearly.

This is a bug and has been fixed in newer software in the Main HTC One forum. T-Mo just needs to update the software.
From what I've seen on my device, mine only light up in "low light". Discovered it by tilting the phone towards a direct light, the buttons dimmed, then tilted away and they came back on. I just assumed that was normal behavior. Picked mine up on the 24th and no software update yet

Hmm you're totally right. I just covered my light sensor with my hand and they are constantly on. I wish there was a way to turn that feature off and just have them on all the time or at least change the sensitivity cause sometimes I can't see the buttons still. Well at least I have a reason now. Thanks.

Has anyone else noticed that the LEDs behind the home and back button are the dimmest of any HTC phone so far ? Next to my regular one, a DNA, and a rezound you can almost barely see them! The display model and the vzw employees all looked the same.
Hoping a software fix is coming ..
Edit- these are the softkeys not hardkeys...

I personally am happy about that. First phone I have not wanted to turn the background light off completely.

I agree. I know in general where to press for the home and back soft keys so having them light up at all isn't that big of a deal.
+1 prefer the dim leds also....
