[Q] CM7 - Any mod to disable adds? - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, first post here, been around for a while but haven't really needed to ask any questions with all the help that's abound in other threads and discussions.
Question as I've just recently updated my TB to CM 7 and noticed now I have adds again! I've been using BAMF for the longest time and want to experience with CM7 but could certainly due without all the advertisements.
Is there a mod that can be installed or a tweak etc. that can be done (not a market program I would hope).
Thanks!

I made a script located in the developer's forum that grabs the latest host file for ad blocking I maintain and allows you to easily update again at any time. I would link you, but i'm on my phone.
I update the list every couple of Weeks with new ads I find.

another option is an app called " Absolute System Root Tools ". you can do anything from change font, boot animation, ad blocker, etc.

Or you can just install this from the market. It works like a charm.

Editing ROMs

Hi all,
I am relatively new to the android community, so I don't feel confident playing around with large parts of ROMs, however I am interested in trying to edit a ROM so that it has as many of my apps and things as default to save room.
Idealy I would like my ROM to:
-Have only the apps I want and need, so I have started stripping out some I don't
-Have my background of choice and no others
-Have a custom launcher (I am looking at LauncherPro, although i understand this only works on android 2.0 and above so cant intergrate this yet)
I am using the stock T-mobile 1.5 custom ROM uploaded by Paul onto Modaco as the ROM I am editing (Sorry I cannot post a link as this is my first post)
Once I have completed this project I would like to create a tutorial to help other people new to the Android scene, who, like me, don't have the knowledge or confidence to edit the ROM majorly.
My first step is remove the unwanted apps and replace them with the ones I do want. So my first question is what apps are vital to androids running that I wont be able to delete. Also, where can I get the .apks of the apps I want to add in?
Any other help in this project will be greatly appreciated.
Thanx
Aaron
well you can check the wiki for refrence but i due know that you can remove apps like google apps gmail email market market updater .... just remeber not to delete them like remove them and move them to a safe folder on your desk top in case you removed a vital app ok thats what i do

Thanx. I have a copy of the original ROM and the one im editing just in case. Is it just a case of trying it out to see if it works and what i can and cant delete then?
Thanx
Aaron
more or less but its better to know what your removing so check this site shttp://source.android.com/
http://forum.androidcentral.com/hacking/6037-general-rom-faq.html
You have to be careful what you are removing and changing. Removing google talk basically dissables the market which I am not sure why but it does. THere are other apps that are linked that you would not think about. You also must know how to resign the rom zip file. There is an app here called autosign and it works pretty good. Its for themers but it works for moding a rom too. If you want to replace the launcher simply delete the launcher.apk and add in the one you want. The wallpaper backgrounds are usually in the launcher.apk unless you are using a sense rom. Sense uses Rosie.apk and the wallpapers are all in htc.widgetpicker.apk (i think thats what its called).

[Q] [REQ] Flipfont application apk

Can someone upload the Flipfont application apk? Accidentally deleted it and i want to change fonts now.
lol I'm a bit confused myself...but why don't you just pull the settings.apk from a ROM or something...?
You know. It's been a really long time since I was on these forums. I used to come here before for winmo devices (5-6.1). Everyone was very helpful and understanding. What's with the accusatory tone? No intention of "lying" to you, just a misunderstanding on my part. I thought my request for the FlipFont apk was innocent enough, certainly not underhanded.
So I didn't uninstall FlipFont. Turns out the One Click Lag Fix causes custom fonts to not work. But the OCLF app includes a font installer. I thought Flipfont was broken, but it was the OCLF.
Sorry if I came off wrong. I intend to be helpful as much as possible. Don't let a couple users discourage you. ( yes, including myself) We all have our good and bad days¡! IMO as long as you have a legit question, we as a community should think before we post, and do our best to help...Hope you see this.

OCLF and Fonts
With all that being said... Have we found a way to install custom fonts with the OCLF applied? Mine currently shows 'an error occurred retrieving the option list'
However, on my girlfriend's phone, it shows a couple of the fonts that were installed.
Is there a correct and incorrect way to install fonts for tOCLF to see them?

Can someone please upload this app or post its location from where it can be pulled off one of your ROMs? Im an Epic user and would like to try and get it working on my phone, TIA!
It doesn't appear to be an app. It is part of the settings.apk. It is built into it. Just go to the dev section and download a rom and pull the settings.apk from it. It probably wont work on your epic.
Pull it/push it and let us know.
Just do a backup first.

[Q] android kitchen

hello guys just set up dxsidia android kitchen not sure if anyone uses this but i have a few questions and since dxsidia does not support this anymore was hoping someone could answer them for me...
1. is the major obvious one does it work on the photon in the thread it does say unconfirmed for atrix but nothing on photon?
2.after creating the work folder i go into advanced options and start editing? i realize since there is nothing on the photon most of my answers are probably going to be try and see but no harm in asking right...
3.it has a set of pluign scripts labeled sgs2/ sgs these are for samsung galaxy s right so i dont want to use any of them?
4. there is a task killer tweak you can add from it what exactly is this?
5. add data/app functionality??? lets you add or remove apps??? not sure is why im asking
there are more q's but i figured if i can get these answered im doing good
ive read the thread for a few days now and seems simple but confusing at same time seems like its a one click type thing but if you dont know for sure what you are clicking can really screw up and have to start from scratch... anywho trying to do more around here and would appreciate any help anyone has thanks a ton
1) Yes in terms of an apk is an apk. No in terms of the updater script (IIRC)
2) Yes, assuming theres options in the advanced menu you'd like to impliment
3) You don't need the Samsung plugins.
4) Changes minfree settings in the boot image. Be aware the ICS impliments memory handling differently than previous versions.
5) Adds a script and folder for data/app partition so you can include optional apps. Optional apks (things like nascar for example) could be placed in here and would be installed on flash. But because they are in /data, the user has the option to uninstall through manage apps.
Personal Opinion: While the kitchen may be a convienient way to do things, it leaves little (Read: No) room for learning. Assuming you'd like to create a body of work to be publically distributed and not just for personal use, it might be worth the upfront investment in figuring out how to do/script this stuff yourself. That's not me trying to be an elite a-hole, that's me giving solid advice.
Cheers!
Yeah im a trying to learn as much as i can ive been reading and reading and reading have always known about the kitchen just never tried it thanks for the response you didnt come off as elitest is all good i find its easier for me to learn by trying things while reading about it granted i do research in great lengths not just in xda but other forums, blogs, links so on and so on before even downloading these tools but as i said it seems to sink in better when i can go ok i use this option this what it means thats what it did this what its supposed to do/look like

So ive been trying all day to spit out a rom with the kitchen and no matter what i do it doesnt install either get status 7 or 0 says was looking for 4agrs but only found 3 and sometimes says 3args but only found 2 ive tried using a rom i know flashes and just running it through the kitchen and flashing the output... idk what im doing wrong but starting to think it is not photon compatible any insider tips? i know i already asked this but not quite ready to surrender to defeat on this yet and i REALLY dont want to install linux or ubuntu on my computer would have to partition it and just not to keen on doing that to the family computer my kids and wife play on it almost more than i do

[Q] Rooted - how far do I need to go now?

Hi all,
This isn't a "stir the pot" kind of question and I don't intend to start a "why root?" discussion... I've read as many other threads as possible and I'm just not clear on a few things. In a current "why do you want to root?" thread, many responded that they rooted so they could remove bloat ware, use wifi tethering, etc. Those are all the things I want, but I'm not sure how far I need to go to get those. Will I need to flash a custom ROM or can I do what I want now?
So, here's what I've got and what I hope to get:
I bought I DNA from a guy who wanted to "upgrade" to an iPhone 5. It did not have the 2.0 software update, so I was able to unlock it, S-OFF, and root it. I can use the SDK and adb, but primarily to follow instructions. Beyond that, I don't really know what I can do now. I had Cyanogen on my trusty old Nexus 1 and on my Xoom tablet, so I'm not afraid of custom ROMs. But, I have to say that I'm pretty pleased with the stock DNA ROM. Except for a few things...
1) What I would like is to get rid of the silly games which I won't use. I don't know enough to know if I can, with the stock ROM but root access, remove those. There's no uninstall option, but perhaps there's a way to remove those with root access? Or would I need to flash a custom ROM?
2) Remove the "entitlement check" on the wifi hotspot app. Since I'm running on T-Mo the app won't, of course, allow activation of the hotspot. Silly... I've read several threads on using SQLite to do this, but they're from last year and either the process has changed or it no longer works. I have read that I can use another app, which is an option. But if there's a way to run the stock app, I'd go for that.
So, you can see I don't really want to change much. If I can do these now, with what access I've got, please let me know (and how, please!). If I need a custom ROM, I see three options it seems. CM (which I've always liked, but seems not yet ready for DNA??), Viper and Hatka seem to be the options which are popular. I'm open to guidance here. Not a "this is the best ROM argument", but which would you recommend for my minimalist needs?
EDIT - I mentioned "three options" above, but that was just based on my reading in the past two weeks. I see there's a new M7 rom and that thread already has over 100 pages in about a week, so it looks like a popular option as well. Apologies if I missed somebody's work and I'm open to any pointers and experiences.
Thanks in advance,
Ross - in the beautiful mountains in Northern Arizona.
I guess if you know the name of the apk of the games, you can use root explorer to remove them from /system/apps but keep in mind we do not know what else it may break and then you may have to ruu back.
if you want to try a rom, try the sense 5 port by newtoroot
To remove some of the user / system apps like twitter or picas, i search 'root uninstaller' in the apps store, and the one with a green trash can has been quite reliable for me ^^
I personally like the minimalistic touch to the M7 / Sense 5 Rom. Easy to get my news, use gps, play music WITH beats on bluetooth/speaker, etc. But stock is really good to, no complaints there.
Thanks and an update - I ended up flashing the M7 and, like you said, it's nice. And an unexpected bonus is that the included wifi hotspot app works just fine with my T-Mo service, without any modifications at all.
I've got everything I wanted and it was easy, once I made the choice.

How to Create Multi/Live Wallpaper (Non-Root)

Hey Guys -
After wanting an HTC One U12 for a while, I recently changed my mind and went with a Samsung Galaxy S9+. I LOVE it! I had wanted the U12 since HTC supports rooting, but found out that at my new job you cannot install company apps or sync with rooted phones and the apps I use are a must. Turns out most things I would have rooted for are already included with the phone. I'd still love to root if it didn't break Knox and may try in future if a reversible one every appears.
It's running the latest OEM firmware of Oreo currently. One of the features (which seems to be Samsung) is the ability to use the "Infinity Wallpapers" which come pre-installed in a few base colors and I believe one is selected by default. In Samsung's app, I also see where other live or infinity wallpapers may be downloaded and used which are just a few seconds in length.
Anyways, my question is, how can I make these live/infinity wallpapers on my own? Do I have to use "Theme" tools to do it? So far, here's what I've found although hit roadblocks with each:
- I went to Samsung's website to see if there was PC software. From what I gathered, you have to sign up to download it and signups take place for 2 weeks starting the 3rd Wednesday of every odd month - plus - your application must be internally reviewed and approved. Hmm...
- Found this post about "themeDIY." I started getting it set up after updating my Android Studio to the latest version, but the link provided which contains the Samsung files is broken so cannot proceed
- Found "Samsung Theme Designer" at this link on Samsung's DEV website, but it was last updated in 2012 so doubt it is what I need
Any suggestions would be appreciated - Thanks!!
