Here is what I did to my phone. Installed a 2.2 rom from team whiskey which had voodoo. I got bored with the rom so I figured I would go back to 2.1 using odin and had no problems . I then decided I would try t-mobiles 2.2. I went to mini kies and all seemed to go well, until my beautiful phone just bricked. It will not turn on at all.. I have tried everything including using a jig I bought. Right now I have a phone with no mechanical problems( it is only a few weeks old) the problem is me not deactivating the voodoo. I know I can call t-mobile etc. but I want to fix it myself. As I said it is totally dead. Does anyone have any ideas I love a challenge. I would love to see DOWNLOAD mode..
You might have a complete bricked phone so..if it is under warranty then just call T-mobile and tell them Kies bricked your phone..I am sure they have head this before because Kies is known for bricking...i have read in so many threads..
Pull the battery, wait awhile, plug in battery cable, insert battery any lights/anything?

don't worry?? he used kies.... Its probably bricked. sorry but kies is known for this. Look up JTAG... it isn't much to fix it but you still have to send it away for awhile

a while back i had a flash go a-rye, i tried one of the posts suggestions but did not work, found very similar solution.
take out battery, sim and sd. hold down both vol buttons. plug usb in reinsert battery and hopefully u'll c the download guy

I suggest you pull the battery, put it back in, plug your USB into your PC, hold both up and down on the volume rocker and plug the micro USB into your phone t get back into Download mode and flash Odin the 512.pit and the JFD tarball.

Connect USB now press the volume buttons then put battery in

Some guy in the marketplace here sells jigs for $15.
And ebay has them for $25 or something.

He does not want to fix his phone, he has a replacement already but wants someone to look into the future to see if he will get busted for flashing firmware onto the phone.

@OP, there's different ways of going into download mode. Not just 1. Try them or gtfo of this forum.

What ROM were you flashing when this happened? I doubt they will be able to see but it is possible they will see a custom ROM and charge you for the replacement.
I would at least try to get the original firmware back onto the phone before sending it back. Have you tried more than one USB cable to get into download mode?

I was working with someone the other night having the same issue getting into download mode, we did a video chat over skype and he showed me that all the steps were not working. the next day he bought a new USB cable and got into download mode on the first try.
hard to sat if they will catch you but I would at least do everything i could to avoid it LOL

you "should" be able to get back to stock, did you include the 512.PIT when you tried flashing 2.1? I usually do a 512.PIT with re-partition when I am going back to JFD
Maybe the OP should "read before posting". I've seen many threads like this, and its really up to the luck of the draw, if your unit happens to be inspected by Captain Flawless, he'll catch it, most likely they'll try to turn it on, see it doesn't boot into recovery and sent it through the refurbishing process. I've actually never seen or heard a story about someone having it come back to bite them in the ass other than anything physical like water damage.
in the OP you make it sound like a JIG is not an option.... may I ask why? THat would solve your issue.
That said, I dont think you have an issue.... send your phone in and quit worrying.
True I sent one one in with fusion on it cause the screen had some bad pixels they never said anything about it I didn't even think of taking the rom off probably cause I dont care but I never heard anything about it and never got any additional charges not saying you won't but the chances are good that they don't look or care either its not like they have 1 guy on a room setting all these phones back to the way they were

So, I've flashed many ROMs on my vibrant and other smart phones but today was the first time I had a problem. I flashed cyanogen and I think it bricked my vibrant. It won't turn on, won't go into any mode, even the buttons won't light up, I've tried all the button holding tricks btw. When plugged in, and the battery is in, the only thing I can get is the little loading star as if it's about to show the battery charging but it never does. Other than that, I'm pretty sure it is bricked. I want to know what I should do now? I don't know anything about fixing bricked phones, I read a lot of topics but I'm still confused. Would something like a jig off of ebay fix it? Thanks for any help. Also, know of any repair shops that could fix something like this? Please let me know. I live in tampa bay fl if that matters.
Sounds like a soft brick to me (but I'm often wrong lol).
Try this.
1. Take out everything from your phone (SIM card, SD card, Battery).
2. Open ODIN
3. Plug your Vibrant into your computer through USB.
4. Hold Vol up and Vol down and put your battery in while holding them.
That should put your phone into download mode, and then you can flash back to stock.

Yeah CM7 is nothing to mess around with if you dont know what youre getting yourself into. It is the most powerful ROM out there but as of right now it is nowhere close to stable for the Vibrant.
its very stable!! i havent had any probs and it was easy to flash as long as u follow instructions, plus with it being on the rom manager premium its as easy as 123. click flash clockwork 3x, then check off all 3 boxes and press download. any of the nightlies from 8 and under, very stable except for no gps!
I'm a brand new owner of a SGS2... So i installed kies tonight... and WAHEY! it told me there was a firmware update... I update as it tells me and it gets stuck for about 30 minutes... at this point i don't know WHAT to do and unplug it... there it is bent beyond recognition. nothing will work. I tried using ODIN to reflash it, tried reflashing the kernel but everything gets stuck and it won't budge... Have i bricked my sgs2 after only 3 days of usage? should i bring it back to samsung? someone please help me cos i'm pretty desperate...

Kies is the devil mate, samsung has made a brick machine here... I only ever use Odin and NOTHING else!!!
If it turns on its not bricked, the only way to possibly rectify this is to actually use kies again;( Try using the emergency recovery flash, if this fails it looks like its an RMA;(((

What do you mean by RMA? Kies fails to find any device under emergency recovery... Odin has only gone as far as Factoryfs.img. That's as far as it's ever gone. usually gets stuck at cache,img. really desperate here and not going to sleep...

RMA is a return to samsung....
OK it seems like something in your phone had become corrupted by the rouge kies flash, if odin cant flash a new rom, it looks like you could have a big problem...;((

Well if you can get into download mode, not to fret. When you try and flash through ODIN, if it fails even once you will need to shut down the phone by pressing power button. Then unplug the usb cable, go into download mode and try again. I used to have the problem with my captivate - if it fails once, you need to restart into download mode again otherwise it will keep failing and failing. Most likely not an RMA - I have done this many times. Not on my SGS2 yet but previous sammy phones
If you still have problems, try another USB slot. Then try another PC if absolutely necessary.

I could kiss you in the mouth right now... It's booting up. i changed USB slot and took out battery etc... Still waiting.... AND OH MY GOD:....

Yeah no problem mate. I am not going to say its impossible, but bricking an SGS2 can be fairly difficult. I just wanted to share what I learned about 6 months ago when I thought I bricked my Captivate I kept trying to flash while still in download mode when it just needed to be reset
Oh and my very first post on XDA was the same relief when I found a post that showed me how to fix. lol
Have you tried to update to the new FW update that KIES gave you, again and seen success?

I think i'm going to leave kies sitting there for a while now until the initial impact of my phone dying is gone.
Also...by using Odin i think i've updated to the latest version.

Yes the sgs2 works perfectly on the Rogers network. I didn't even have to enter APN settings and hspa+ works too. I bought mine from expansys.ca and altogether was around 800 with taxes and shipping. However I think handtec in the UK is cheaper now. You may have to pay duties but should still be cheaper

The title basically explains the problem. I was having a bunch of issues with custom roms on my phone...lack of cell service, very laggy. I figured it was best to ODIN to stock then update via Kies to stock 2.2 and save myself any further hardship by keeping stock if I was actually getting reception.
The installation/update went perfectly okay then after 10 minutes of letting it sit, I attempted to turn it on...nothing. Unlikely but I thought maybe the battery was dead so I left it plugged in for a little while longer, still nothing. Realizing that on FroYo the green charging screen would come up when the phone wasn't actually on, I thought the worst...hardbricked. The phone simply won't turn on at ALL.
Since coming to this conclusion a couple hours ago I've attempted numerous/every combination of buttons to get back into Download mode but no go. At this point I'm fishing for any kind of solution to this problem. I bought my Vibrant off of Craigslist so I'm not sure if the warranty is still valid. Also I can't simply exchange the phone because of my FFC. My original camera is back at school, where I won't be for another week or so.
Anyone with any kind of solution or advice, I beg of you to speak up.

if you've tried everything then thats the only thing that'll get it working again
i hard bricked mine when odin froze and tried everything for a week but nothing worked then i took mine to a local phone shop and they fixed it in like a day
i think kies has a history of causing hard bricks, theres a stock 2.2 by Whitehawkx you could have used instead of using kies
Seems like ur on the right track. Only other suggestion would be to try a jig to get into download mode before you go the jtag route. Probably what ur gonna have to do tho. Good luck!
Send it back to Samsung. That happened the other day to me (exactly what you did) and they sent me a new one. 5 bucks.

Call Samsung/TMobile and tell them what happened, they should replace your phone.
Same thing happened to me today. Samsung needs to fix their ****.

yes...it is bricked....never use kies again...lesson learned?
If you plug the phone into either a charger or the PC does the charge battery icon show up? or even at least spindles? If it does then all hope is not lost.
- If its getting no life at all then JTAG would probably be your only fix.
- You could say Kies killed it and T-mobile should replace it with little fuss since that is what happened. Keep in mind that you did void the warranty when you originally started messing with it, but that shouldn't be an issue either way. Good luck!
I hear nightmare stories about kies......... have you tried a JIG? you can make one for $1.19, some scotch tape, and an old car charger.... pretty simple actually. I constructed one in 5 mins. you can find more info on this in the stickies or bible maybe. chances are that if it was kies.... your toast.
