titanium backup - restoring leads to market updates? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I restore the user apps after a full wipe, the market shows that around half the apps needs to be updated. They aren't updated at all, they are on the same version, just being re-downloaded. If I don't do this, the updates keep popping up even though the version numbers are identical.

after you restored the apps from TI did you go to settings > manage applications> market and "clear data"? this will force the market to re scan data/app and build the list correctly.

oh i certainly didn't know that. Thank you

let me know if it works please. if not we can brain storm more ideas.

I always believed that after a clean install you should let the market download all the apps again by itself, so that it will retain its update capabilities, ans only use TI for restoring the data of these apps..

5) Open and sign out of GTalk, then re-open and sign in.
6) Open Market and accept agreement. Let it load your apps. Close Market.
7) Go to market.android.com and sign in. Go to My Market Account>Settings tab>Edit>Nickname your phone and click Update.
8) Install an app from market.android.com.
After this it took a few hours, but all my apps show now.

ps the app google services framework was hard to find , because it ´s named in your local language. In swedish it was "Ramverk för tjänster från Google" *lol*

Yes it worked

[Q] 'Disconnecting' apps from Android Market - Market Link?

Hey guys,
Forgive me if this question has been covered, I did plenty of searching without finding what I was after.
I have an app that was installed via Android Market. And so, the Android Market knows when new versions are out and notifies me of an update. Titanium Backup calls this the 'Market Link', not sure what else it could be called.
My question is, how would I go about 'disconnecting' the app from the Market? Deleting the market link as if it were side-loaded?
Yes, I know this means no more updates for the app etc. Which is actually what I'm after.
For reference, I'm using a SGS - DocRom V9.6 with Speedmod Kernel k13a
Thanks.
Hey Guys,
So no body knows how to delete the link between app and Android Market so that the Market no longer knows it's installed?
Or am I best copying the app somehow, uninstalling it and then side-loading it?
Thanks.
Using Titanium Backup (Pro) long click/press on the app you want to 'disconnect' from the market.
Then select Detach from Market
I added (Pro) because I'm not sure if it works on the standard version or not..which I'd highly recommend getting the pro version if you don't already have it.
Awesome thanks for the tip, I didin't know there was an extended menu if I long-pressed an app in Ti Backup.
Though once I long-press, 'Disconnect' is greyed out. And in fact, all my apps have this greyed out (And I do have pro), yet they all show in Android Market?
'Force Attach to Market' doesn't seem to do anything either.
Weird, I'm able to Detach the market link of both /data and /system apps - some of which I do and do not have backups of.
I'm not sure if this will really do anything, but you can always try using the "market doctor" to find missing market links, then see if you're able to remove the link that it finds. But to be honest, I'm not really sure that will do the trick nor do I have any clue why that option isn't available to you
Only other thing I can think of is to clear the market's cache/data:
Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage applications > All > Market
click force stop then clear data & clear cache
If they're both blanked out, just use TiBackup to wipe the market data.
After all that, see if you're able to Detach the Market Links
Hope this works

Thanks for the help.
Looks like clearing the data from the Market app (as you described) has allowed me to detach my apps from the Market through Ti Backup now.
That's not how I managed to do it though. I did it a far more complicated way!
I made sure I had a backup of the app, then uninstalled it.
I then browsed to the Titanium Backup backup folder on the internal SD card, and found the *.properties file of the app in question.
Long press on it and opened it in Text Editor.
I then deleted out every line that started with 'market.'
I then saved it, and Ti Backup automatically creates a backup of the original file.
Then I restored the app.
But to get this process to work, I also had to clear the Market app data (as per your tip).
Did I mention complicated!

Not sure I'll get a reply on an over a year old thread but worth a try. I tried this method but didn't work for me. When restoring the app did you restore data also? Thanks.
I'm still here!
The app I was trying to disconnect from the market I don't think had any real data to restore, so I don't think I was restoring data as well, no.
I'd say both the Market (now Play Store) and Ti Backup have changed a fair bit since this post. Ti Backup does have the ability to detach apps from the Play Store, if you find it in the app list and long press it will show the option. Some apps I think won't detach, and it could be because they're linked to your google/gmail account (for certain permissions or whatever). If they remain linked to that account, then I guess the Play Store still thinks it's installed on the phone (because it is).
Sorry I couldn't be of any more help!

Thanks for the reply. The app I wanted to break from the market is Business Calendar Pro that I bought a while back. The new updates don't work with the ROM on my phone so I wanted to stop the updates. I have MyBackup Pro and it has an option to break the market link but doesn't work. I haven't bought Ti Backup but use the free version. I don't want to buy it just to find that it won't work. I don't think Biz Cal uses google data but it does us the built in calendar's data so that might be why I can't break the link. Oh well. I'll keep trying different options. Thanks again.
Hi, not sure if this will do the trick but you could try extracting the APK for the app (not sure if TiB can do it or this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.extract.apk) And then uninstall the market version and side-load the extracted version. I have a feeling it may not work as sometimes when I've side-loaded beta versions the released version has shown up in the Play Store as installed. When I try and uninstall it from there, the Play app tells me the app wasn't installed from Play and gets me to confirm uninstall.
I guess that's the long way of saying that the Play Store app must be using some mechanism to detect apps installed on the phone, even if not from the store.
Thanks again but the market seems to keep the data linked somehow. I'll keep trying different scenarios I guess...
did you find any method that work?
Honestly I haven't had time to mess around with it this weekend, but I'll keep up on the research and post here if I find something out. Thanks
Titanium Backup is not working for sure, at least for now, maibe they'll fix this sometimes!

Yea. I figured that. Glad I didn't buy either to try them. thanks. It sucks but will have to deal with for now I guess.
found a fix
Hey. So I was looking around some more and found an app called "market fixer" https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kstudio.marketfixer&hl=en
It seems to scan apps that aren't linked to the market. The other thing it does, if you "scan all links", is give you all your market links which you can then select and "delete market link"
I check and it works. Also some reported it stops working on reboot, but mine worked fine. The app does warn that it will need to be reapplied if market data is cleared. Just wanted to update you and hopefully help anyone else with these troubles
Hi. I just gave this ago and worked very well. Thanks for finding that out and sharing.

update on market fixer. I guess if you clean google play cache it relinks also. easy enough for me to use market fixer before I "update all" though so no prob for me.

error processing purchase in Android Market

Hi all,
I somehow managed to break my Market App. Whenever I try to download an app (even free ones). I receive the following error: "error processing purchase".
I backed up my ROM with CWM and reset my Tab to factory default. I am able to download again. However I'm hoping that someone can send me the stock Android Market App, so I don't have to start customizing all over again.
Thanks in advance!
I spent hours trying to fix this and finally came to the solution. Clearing the market cache and removing your Google account must be done concurrently. If all else fails, remove your Google account, clear the cache for the market, and clear all cache and data from all applications and services that use the market icon. This is kind of like hunting a rabbit with a bazooka, but it'll git'er done.
To re-hash concisely:
Be aware: if steps 1, 2, and 3 don't work, step 4 can solve your problem ( it did for me ), but it may cause adverse effects or problems ( I'm not sure ).
1) Go to settings --> Account & Sync --> Click your Google account --> and click remove in the upper right hand corner of the screen.
2) Go to settings --> Applications --> Manage Applications --> Click the "All Applications" tab --> and then scroll until you find "Market". Choose "Clear Data".
3) Make another attempt to download or purchase an app.
If you still receive the error message:
4) Repeat steps 1 & 2 , but in addition to clearing the market cache ( which happens in step 2 ), look for any applications that seem related to the market ( there were multiple services and programs I found ) and clear the data/cache for all of them. When this step is completed, your tablet will reinitialize upon exit. You may receive a notification or error.
5) Restart your tablet, click the market, and you will be prompted to add a Google account. Sign in and accept the terms!!!
Hope this works!

error on market app
Im getting crazy as I can´t download any market app at all.
The first time I installed (3.3 bl1.1), I got 6 apps downloaded form the market app, and then suddenly stop saying and error purchasing even free apps. After hours trying to change settings now the market app even doesnt open saying that cannot get info from the server!!!
Tried to clear cache, wipe data and even reinstall the rom, but the same thing happens now after just 1 download from the android market, it says "error purchasing" a free app..
I really loved this ROM, but this is a crucial feature, can someone post an workaround for this ?
This happened to me after restoring a nandroid. In the end I ended up reflashing and restoring my user app data from TitaniumBackup. Problem solved. Good Luck

You could try to restore with TTB or uninstall and install a fresh apk. Or make a new nandroid backup, flash an older working Android backup, copy the apk onto your SD card, restore the broken nandrod backpup, uninstall market, use root explorer to move the working market apk to system/app and reinstall it from there.

I had the same issue happened to me. A workaround that worked for me is using the web market. Try that, it should work. The only thing is that it wont install automatically. After downloading from the web market I had to go to the market native app and search again for the app i just dl. Now the market native app would display Install instead of download.
That was the only way to dl the app.
Then I had issue with battery drainage, So decided to flash it back to stock and no more problems with the market.

" error processing purchase" solution that worked for me
Hi.
I'm new to the forum. I just bought my first tablet. A Viewsonic GTablet that was rooted to Honeycomb 3.0. First thing I found out about it was that I couldn't download free apps from the Market. I could get the paid ones however. I could also download free ones from Amazon. So I googled and googled and read the posts here and elsewhere and tried most of the fixes but I was as frustrated as all of us. So I thought that maybe there would be a newer version of Market that had bug fixes and so on and I found
It's version 3.0.26. I was trying to post the link but they tell me as a new member of the forum I'm not allowed to post outside links yet. Cool. The link was actually to a RapidShare site if your trust them. It was free. It was easy to just gmail it to myself and on my Viewsonic I found it in the Download folder and did the install. Sure enough I'm now a happy camper. First thing I got was Flash Player of course. I want the SiriusXM app but I installed it and log in and get the "checking for updates" that never ends. But that's a different topic.
By the way. I did email Android Market support and they got right back to me and said that they were working on it. I sent them my update that I am posting here.
The Market sometimes just has issues. As others have said clearing cache can help. Other times the only thing to do is wait and try to repurchase again later.

darn frustrating
I get no love with the Jamesyboy fix.
Seems a common enough problem, but no solid fix after all this time.
---------- Post added at 05:33 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:49 PM ----------
Found a real fix.
Install new market.apk from
http://www.arctablet.com/assets/apps/Android_Market_v3.1.5.apk
and install.
Then hunt down and uninstall the old faulty market app.
To do that, if you click the "Market" label at the top right of the "Apps" screen the system will prompt you to complete action with...
That will tell you the name of the old market app to go find and uninstall.
The Market backend (not your Tab or other device) is the problem. They've been getting a huge response to those $0.10 apps, and it's revealing some issues with the servers.
settings- privacy- factory data reset. then when it reboots wipe data for market. it's been working for me so far for a few hours. it hasn't updated to google play store yet tho, i don't know why and don't care as long as i can download apps.
Market Legacy Will cause this
if you use the google play legacy app to see what apps you have installed previously it will break in-app purchases. Uninstall and wipe normal market cache
Also try clearing media cache
I periodically have the Google Play Store get stuck on "Installing..." when I try to install an app (JellyBean, different tablet tho). I've done Clear Data for it & the Google Play Services as suggested above. But what I also needed to do was Clear Data on Media Storage. I have a large (~40GB) side-loaded MP3 collection, and the media crawler sometimes gets bogged down causing problems for everything (including Camera, which is apparently connected to Gallery, which apparently uses the media crawler). Of course, after you do this you will need to be patient (and perhaps reboot?) while it re-indexes your media.
i see..

[Q] Many Apps Saying "Incompatible With Your Device"

I'm running the CM7 nightly roms on my NC, and I've recently noticed a number of apps no longer listed as compatible from the market. Angry Birds for example, does not have the install button on the previous market, and on the new 3.1.X market actually has a message at the top of the window that says incompatible.
The web version of the market has my nook grayed out in the install window.
My build.prop is the stock CM7 one, no hacking.
What gives?
I had the same problem and believe the is some other posts for this.
My fix was:
1. diable wifi
2. uninstall the market update
3. backup and uninstall market updater with titanium backup
Sent from my NookColor
My fix is:
set resolution to 160dpi (using LCD Density app or hacking build.prop) and clear Market data
???
profit!!!
Many apps which I have downloaded from market before are saying that they are not available in my country. Whats the point excluding countries? Do the dev wanna make money or not?

Some countries do not have paid app support. Sometimes the dev just likes to keep stuff in the US to not have any problems with money conversions, import/export laws, etc.

Hi, I edited my build.prop manually and changed the fingerprint/description to match a Nexus S using:
ro.build.description=soju-user 2.3.4 GRJ22 121341 release-keys
ro.build.fingerprint=google/soju/crespo:2.3.4/GRJ22/121341:user/relelease-keys
rebooted, cleared cache, dalvik, in cwm and booted and everything shows up and works - facebook, netflix, etc...
I just #commented out what was there and added the lines below, saved, rebooted and viola!

I also set dpi to 160. I didn't see any fixed app info until I took my Nook to a wifi network I've never used before and ran Google Market; it showed (for the first time after autoupdating to the newer GM a few weeks ago) the accept/deny conditions window. After clicking accept, GM started showing not only the usual apps, games, books sections but also movies. Half my apps which weren't showing updates before showed available updates. Google Market itself updated to the latest edition, still showing Movies.
I'm not sure if using the NC at a brand-new location did something to market data, but if the dpi fix isn't working I would recommend trying (the market data clear).

Market seems to be fixed, most likely on Google's server end. A number of us have not needed to clear market data for several days now. I'm going on 4 days with fully functioning market at 160 and no data clearing. Joenathane is experiencing the same. It is possible that this is what angomy experienced albeit in an indirect fashion.
I did not notice till I flashed the newest gapps (0823), so can't say for sure why it is working. Would suggest those clearing market data before opening the app to stop doing so for a while and see if the apps list stays solid.
incompatibility in market
after trying everything, i also found that (atleast for me) if i cleared data for the market, that fixed it.
thanks,

[Q] Applications and games owned by this account will appear here

What is this error and how do I fix it?
Logging into my freshly hard-reset device via Market I get a white box that states:
"Applications and games owned by this account will appear here"
I THOUGHT I solved it myself by following my own advice:
Clear data and cache.
Didn't work the first time and it seems to be randomly recurring,.... and now it's always happening, which leads me to believe it is a GOOGLE issue.
Just in case anyone else has this issue.
Anyone have any ideas?
I restored from a previously functional backup and still no dice.
It's happening to me, also. Calk's 2.0 on a Sprint S2 E4GT.
Cleared Market cache and data, no dice. Tried switching Market back-and-forth to another Google account, no dice.
Happily, I can still get updates via AppBrain.
I have a theory that it was due to something that I extracted from my CWM backup via Titanium Backup.
Did you by any chance do something similar?
I don't think my theory is in any way accurate. Something seems to be going on with the Google server end. I wish they'd fix it.
find a solution (maybe someone find one BETTER)
i have tried anything to solve this problem but no dice. now i have installed KL1 (wipe version ) and the market works perfectly
i also have heard about many problem with market on KK5..
Interestingly enough, My Apps worked correctly ... once ... after I flashed Calk's 2.0.1a over 2.0.
Still using AppBrain to sync updates.
On evo3d, this seems to be a widespread problem across many phones even on stock software. I've been experiencing for a couple months now. Do you have any sideloaded apps, bootleg or amazon or mikandi? My theory is that the 3rd party apps are interfering with the market. I have amazon apps that show in google market as purchased. I uninstalled everything and reloaded with my titanium backup, marked as sideloaded, worked for about a week then the market started reassoiciating itself with my 3rd party apps and broke again. appbrain doesnt pick up all updates either, I've been waiting for about a week for it to pick up the beautiful widgets update and hasnt so far. this sucks.
try this solution. download and install appbrain. sync your google account with appbrain and then click "sync" on apprain. when sync is finished, open market and now it works . please check this

Does not work but thanks anyway.
no no no this damn problem is back. I think it was a problem kk5. I have check rom revo v4
he he, anyone that experieced this problem has blackmart alpha installed
follow this solution:
uninstall blackmart alpha. go to manage application, market>force stop it>clear cache>clear data
go to market accept user agreement
now it will work. please tell me
I have same problem before restore my apps with titanium on XWKK5; so, I think it was an error for use market doctor with system apps, then I clear all market links with Titanium and works, market came back lo list my apps but before install some apps I have the problem again and delete market link doesn't work; when I restore XWKK2 nandroid, market works fine and I never install balckmarket or similars, I've wrote to google support but only says clar cache and data from market, but doesn't work and never responding me ...
PD: Sorry for my english, I'm from latinoamerica
This is definitely a problem which surfaces with KK5.
Upon upgrade to KL1, the problem vanishes. Flashing back to KK5, even factory reset, brings it back.
I've seen my stuff in My Apps just once in several weeks...immediately after flashing Caulk's 2.5 full. Worked correctly once, then everything dissapeared again.

Same here. Flashed Calk's 2.5 full, market worked fine first time I selected "My Apps". Second time I tried, I would get one of the following:
- "Apps and games owned by this account will appear here."
- "Applications and games owned by this account will appear here."
I'm attaching a screenshot. (BTW, tried reflashing the ROM, did not solve the problem.)
EDIT: Posted the issue in the ET4G Q&A section as well
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20504910
I've been running KK2 (Australian) version for around a week and all has been well until today when I've got the same error message.
Had it previously on other versions of KK2 and KK5 but now it's back.
Haven't done anything today to cause it...come on Google, sort it out

I have figured out how to fix this with titanium backup. Basically, you use the remove all market links option then attach each app back with titanium one by one. Pay attention to what apps you add back, excluding any from Amazon app store. Reboot and wait. After about a half a day things will be back to normal

I don't see a "remove market links" option. I only see option to attach link to market. Please advise!

I think it's only available to pro versions. It's actually labeled "Destroy all Market links" in the "market tools" menu item.

Market not my showing apps since update

As the title says, since the update to the Verizon razr my apps won't show up in the market. It just says apps downloaded by me will appear hear then browse apps. I'm sorry if this is in the wrong area, admin feel free to move.

System update, or phone update?
Are these apps you previously used on your razr? Try installing the most recent market apk if yes.

I've had the same problem since I got my Razr. It showed all of my apps in the old version, but automatically updated it to the newest version of the market after closing. From then on it shows this page everytime. For now, I'm using AppBrain so I can see which apps need to be updated, but it's quite annoying.
Have you guys tried installing the market again? Wouldn't hurt, not sure if it'd fix it though.
Give it a shot.

I uninstalled updates on the Market app, and it said it rolled back to version 2.3.6. I then ran the market app to see if it would show my apps. It gave me this error: "Attention - A server error has occurred. Retry, or cancel and return to the previous screen". I can retry as many times I want without change. I was sure to check show all apps in Settings. I installed an app off the market, checked my apps, and the same error persisted. Finally, I closed the market, it auto-updated to version 3.4.4, and shows the same screen when trying to view My Apps. Google's support page has pages of people with the same problem with no resolution.
Ty mista wolf, tried uninstalling and reinstalling and nothing different.
Edit: ty Emilio for the info shot the support pages blowing up.

Same is happening here, 651.73.250.XT910.Brasil.en.BR (2.3.5) - 6.5.1_73_SLC-25, brand new rom installation. Tried clearing market data and uninstalling updates, but nothing helps..
Sounds like an issue on google end. Not happening on my phone. I think I have 3.4.4
Found this on the android group help page, and it worked for me:
1) go to settings>applications>manage applications>all>google services framework>clear data
2) go to settings>applications>manage applications>all>market>clear cache and force close
3) go to settings>applications>manage applications>all>market>clear cache and clear data
4) Reboot phone
5) Open and sign out of GTalk, then re-open and sign in.
6) Open Market and accept agreement. Let it load your apps. Close Market.
7) Go to market.android.com and sign in. Go to My Market Account>Settings tab>Edit>Nickname your phone and click Update.
8) Install an app from market.android.com.
After this it took a few hours, but all my apps show now.
