Update: I am now encouraging modifications. I strongly encourage anyone and everyone to play around with these scripts and modify them. If you modify it for a different device, awesome! Post it for everyone, please. If you find something interesting and you improve something, please post it. We should all be able to benefit from each others work.
I have created these scripts to help speed up the Droid x2 in all areas and to help conserve battery life. Not going to include a huge description this time. If you want to read the entire description behind these scripts visit my original thread for v1.
Installation
Depending on your comfort level, you may either unzip and move the scripts to init.d, or you may flash the zip file.
Speedy confirmed working on: Droid X2 all roms, Droid 3 all roms. Report if you have any problems. Please flash the universal if you are NOT coming from either of these two phones.
After installation, you should reboot at least twice, then check in /data for a ".ItWorks" file. If this file does not exist, check to make sure your file manager is showing hidden files (ES File Explorer has this issue!), also double-check to make sure you have the latest busybox installed, you could also try running Fix Permissions in ROM Manager.
If your system appears slow, you may need to boot back into recovery and wipe dalvik, and cache partition.
Any feedback you can provide will definitely help future development.
Disputes
See something you feel you should be credited for? PM me and we'll talk. Replies to this thread that are hateful, argumentative, or just plain trolling, will in fact be deleted. Yes this is my own work, except where I have given credit.

UPDATE (11/24/11)
Version 7! Said to be the best version of all! It's smooth! It's fast! It's awesome! 18+ hours battery life!
COMPATIBILITY: v7 has two versions. One is for the Droid X2 and Droid 3 specifically--and might work on the Atri and other blur phones. The other is UNIVERSAL, meaning it works with all devices as far as I'm aware.
If you have any problems let me know. Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated!
Note: Don't be alarmed by size difference of universal zip. It does not include the busybox binary which is an additional 1mb.
Changelog
Code:
[i] [/i]
v7
▪ DISABLES & REMOVED Android's/Motorola's useless User Tracking, Behavioral Analysis, and Statistics Reporting (Should save battery!)
▪ DISABLES Location Cache and Tracking (useless Android feature)
▪ DISABLES New & Gentle Kernel Sleepers--improving snapiness and responsiveness of system and reducing wakelocks
▪ Mounts partitions as data=writeback, causing the system to only write data when it needs to, which saves battery
▪ Optimized dirty page and dirty cache to only use 50% of inactive/unused memory
▪ Changed IO Scheduler to Completely Fair Scheduler (default)--works better for dual-core devices
▪ REMOVED Zepplinrox 3G Turbo Charge, ZipAlign, and Dalvik Cleaner (faster startup)
▪ Improved install script and how it functions
▪ Changed filesystem cache pressure to 40 to make things a bit snappier
-------------------------------------------------
--ALL PREVIOUS VERSIONS HAVE BEEN ARCHIVED--
-------------------------------------------------
v6
▪ REMOVED setRenice--Really didn't work really at all, guess it's a kernel thing
▪ Included Zepplinrox 3G Turbo Charge
▪ Optimized journaling commit times for /data and /cache [I]Thanks to pikachu01![/I]
▪ System will now not respond to icmp packets (pings) [I]Thanks to pikachu01![/I]
▪ Changed cache pressure back to 100 to help with slowness on some phones
▪ Added some 3G/wifi booster settings that I found back when I had the OG Droid
▪ Added prop settings for dalvik
▪ Included sqlite3 bin for db optimization (added in version 3, but did not include sqlite3 bin)
v5
▪ Modified TCP keep alive time from 30 seconds to 2.6 minutes. (Will help battery and reduce network congestion.)
▪ Reduced page expire to 1 second, seemed that pages were being kept in memory waaayyyyy too long.
▪ Changed memory manager to prefer to keep data in memory rather than purge it for no reason (suggested by Zeppelinrox).
▪ Removed a bunch of crap scripts (not mine) from /system/bin, which helps startup time! :)
v4
▪ Fixed performance problem that plagued v3 for some phones
▪ Further increased battery life
▪ Made a cheese cake and ate it (It was delicious!)
v3
▪ [strike]Fixed flaw in how renice works. Now applications with a set value will always have that "nice" value.[/strike]
▪ Added a smart delvik cache cleaner that runs on boot
▪ Added SQL database cleanup function to 01tweaks. (Decreases db file size and increases performance. Which helps boot times, memory usage, and IO performance.)
▪ Removed unneeded logging
▪ Optimized more values
▪ Removed deepSleeper
v2
▪ Cleaned up scripts, and made some modifications, including a few to further improve battery.
▪ Added prioritizing using "renice."
(Edit: Half works, lol)
v1
▪ Initial Release
THANKS!
Shout out to Motorola for the Droid x2, and our ROM, and to Google for making Android completely free and open-source.
I'd also like to thank the Sony Android Dev team for giving me a few pointers. Also thanks to Naven, his init.d hack/discovery is included, saving a few steps for everyone. Thanks to pikachu01 for his research and some awesome stuff I found in his threads! Thanks to everyone who has provided feedback and suggestions!
Months have went into these scripts. Let me know how well they work for you! Any and all feedback, good or bad, is very appreciated.

Glad to see your continued efforts, thank you!
Im doing a complete wipe tonight and going to Eclipse 0.5 so I'll try these out as part of that update.
Do you happen to know if the method of rebooting the phone to fix the battery life issue is really necessary if we have your scripts in place?

Ignore this

This is great! Mike, thanks!!! Glad to see your further development/tweaking of these scripts.
EDIT: Installed over v1 on Eclipse 0.5, had to download and flash your init.d re-hack, installed v2 and we're off to the races!

Busy Box 1.19 good to go for use with these scripts?
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App

I have installed RoadRunner and I am sad to report that now doubleTwist skips more than before with Speedy. :/
EDIT: I made sure the scripts were still running by deleting the zipalign log in /data/ and rebooting, and it reappeared.

Bummer. I've just flashed Eclipse v0.5 and flashed the new speedy scripts. I'm recalibrating my battery now. I'll test for skips with PowerAmp Pro tomorrow and report back. Thanks 0vermind!

Thanks will deff. check this out later today. Deff. need that guide for making our own priority list since I use none of those.
I do notice I still get audio skips. I DO use Stock Music with Equalizer with its new version and it still skips.
As for NitWit, I think we still need too. I'm pretty sure that would of been a big feature if that was in this script. Hopefully someone can fix that crap.

The phone is running superbly! Everything is extremely quick and lag free. However, the audio issues still remain. I would be comfortable saying the skipping isn't quite as bad, but it's still aggravating. I'm using PowerAmp Pro.
EDIT: Running Eclipse v0.5 and Speedy v2.

I'm sorry to hear that. I'll definitely be doing some more investigation. That's probably my main goal right now is to get rid of audio skipping and lag.

KMApp - Kernel Manager App V 2.0

Hi everyone,
this thread is to let you know about the development of KMApp.
What is it?
It's an app that lets you manage some kernel settings without the need to use adb or manually create files. Everything is made with GUI!
Who can use it?
Users with custom kernel. It should work every custom kernel that supports init.d.
For File System Conversion the kernel is required to support fs.convert method.
What can it do for me?
File system conversion: choose between rfs, ext2, ext3, ext4, jfs type for every partition you have
Enable/Disable Swap script
Enable/Disable App2Sd script. It uses int2sd+ by croniccorey found here
Set Compcache behaviour
Does it support different languages?
Yes, it can. If you want to provide translation please download this file from github sources.
Can i contribute in some way?
Yes you can.
Firstly, I'm looking for testers.
Secondly, if you have graphic skills you can improve icons or completely redo them if you prefer.
This app has been tested a bit but i'm not going to give you any assurance it will work or it won't cause troubles. I strongly suggest you to have a full backup of apps, system partition and data before messing with it.
If you are ready to take the risk, download the file at the bottom of the post and install it the way you like.
If you find a bug please report it here, I'll try my best to fix.
TO ROM DEVSYou are free to include this app into your rom but please warn your users to read this post to find useful information about bugs and updates.
Even if a "Thanks" hit is free i really don't care to be credited. Just link here as i cannot answer to PMs from users that didn't even read this post.
CHANGELOG
V2.0 - Not released yet [Testing it, will release as soon as possible]
Completely reworked the code.
Major UI improvements.
Info section
FS Conversion
Int2SD
Swap
Compcache
Less features now supported but it is MUCH easier to port the app to different devices. So if you want to get the app you can download the app and try it. Or you can simply donate to me so that i can buy your phone! (joking)
V1.4.1
fixed BLN enable/disable FC. I do not have a GT-I5800 so i cannot test if bln behaves correctly but the needed files now are copied as they should. Also, disabling it will restore your previous lights file.
options that cannot be set are now hidden. They become visible only once you can actually use them.
fixed some potential bugs. Now it's stronger then ever.

Added support for configurable Compcache. Now you can specify the dimension. Of course this will work only if you are on G3mod kernel 2.2 +
Added support for BLN enabling/disabling
V1.3
Added support to move only user app's related dalvik-cache to sd with hybrid data2sd. This way your permormance should improve
Completely changed the way data2sd.dirs is created. Now it's faster (i mean, much faster) and you must not wait ages to un/check directories
Added translation - pt
Added file system conversion to jfs
Fixed some potential bugs
Finally fixed the bug that prevented to see checked directories in hybrid data2sd after a reboot... It was the most stupid bug i ever did, sorry!
V1.2
Added support for MultiOSData
Added support to compress data backups made with MultiOSData (will be available with G3Mod kernel v2.1 - not released yet)
Fixed bugs with fs detection - Now this should be error safe and way more solid
Fixed bug that prevented correct detection of dirs in hybrid data2sd
Added transaltions - en / it / pl / nl / de / hr
Better options detection and handling
Performance boost for hybrid data2sd settings - I hope this won't break it!
Fixed lot of typos
Other less important bug fixes

Why apply both data2sd and hybrid data2sd?
@andreapier, EXCELLENT! APP. Do i have the permition to include it in my v8.1? D I like very much the GUI, dont change it
PS: There is a tiny typo bug in Enable Data2sd "info". (This option... enabling!) It says abckup instead of backup.
Of course you have my permission, just ask users to read the first post of this thread so that they know this is still not stable.

Yea it seems a bit unstable I toggled some options and now my data and apps are gone ^^ I will try to figure out whats gone wrong.
@andreapier I think it was miscommunication
I told no for cf-root just because it has nothing to togglt by an app
Currently working on some other project, but I'll restart working on simplicity soon
Then you can add support

Year cool app, very good UI, but please remove the root part, some users including me cant trust you that you arent use the root permissions for something else. Or is there any log function for root apps, so that we can read the commands?

At least half of the functionality of this app NEED root.
If you do not trust the app, simply don't use it and set your phone by manually creating / editing configuration file.
I will not make a version without root as it make no sense to me, sorry

Thank you

Hang on, you have a problem installing a 50KB app because it may do something fishy, but you're fine with custom kernels where I can (and yes I know how to do this) overvolt your CPU to dangerous levels and send all your data to me while its booting? Look don't worry, the XDA isn't out to get you. Andreapier is good.

Did you try to install it like the app suggests?
This is a feature offered by a third party lib i used (RootTools, it's very good).
RootTools make easy to check if a phone is rooted and lots of other things, so i would like not to get rid of it. However, i can try disabling busybox checking if it doesn't work (it does for most users however). Still, i think you'll get problems when checking for root too.
Please try to install busybo from market and try again.
PS: what version of busybox are you using?

Version 1.1 released.
Some bugs have been solved but hybrid data2sd is still not working fine... I cannot figure out why as everything in the app do what it is supposed to do. Will see tomorrow again!
For changelog please look at first post.
If you feel like brave, test this and report issues as soon as you can, thanks.

It seems better but in hybrid data2sd settings, it shows only dalvik-cache ticked (and not app + log too). Good work anyway!

FAQ (Updated 5.9.12)

Q: What makes this ROM different than all the other ROMs?
A: First and foremost, you will get the best support from the viperROM Team (-viperboy- and Vinchenzop). We personally reply to almost every post and we're always in the thread trying to help out. If you have to wait more than an hour or so for your question to be answered, that is unusual! What else is different??
The inclusion of the OC Daemon for unprecedented battery life and performance
The custom viperControl script that handles the OC daemon, bloat, and removed app management (more to come too!)
A highly tuned system for incredible smoothness

Q: Do I really need to wipe coming from another version of viperROM?
A: I always recommend that and that is how I test my ROMs. You may be not have any issues if you don't wipe, but you might.

Q: Where are all the cool add-ons?
A: Check post 4 for more information on how to set up and use the viperROM Updater.

Q: What is battery calibration and should I do it?
A: Yes!! If you aren't getting wonderful battery life or you think you can do better, do it! Here is the method I have used even back to my EVO 4G and it has always done well by me: Wipe battery stats (from recovery, or Battery Monitor Widget can do it [Menu > Statistics] and it doesn't matter what percentage you're at when you do so. Let the phone die and then fully charge. Take it off the charger and don't plug it in until it dies again, then fully charge. Your next charge cycle will be much better!
What some people don't understand is that you're not calibrating the battery as you are calibrating the phone. When you wipe and do this procedure, the phone reads where the max and min voltages are so it can report battery stats accurately.

Q: What is the deal with tethering?
A: As of right now, native tethering isn't unlocked. The included WiFi Tether should work just fine. You may need to play with the settings, possibly enabling "Routing Fix" and "Enable MSS Clamping"

Q: What kernel should I use with this ROM?

Q: Do any themes work with this ROM?
A: The only mods and themes that we can be sure will be compatible with viperROM are the ones that are found within the viperROM Updater app. If there is a theme that you would like to try, make a nandroid and try it. If it doesn't work, restore your nandroid.

viperControl Script
This script is the main script used to control many features within viperROM. Currently with this script, you can:
Adjust the OC Daemon
Change schedulers
Adjust voltage (if on a custom kernel)
Manage removed apps
Freeze any app on the phone - NOTE: Not available on ICS yet!
Modify lock screen text - NOTE: Not available on ICS yet!
Run "fix permissions" (for FC issues)
Adjust the capacitive button brightness
Edit some features in build.prop
Manage the hosts file

OC Daemon
The OC daemon was created by rmk40 of Team Unity. I take no credit for the daemon, only the script I made to make it easier to work with. More information can be found here, but I will sum it up and explain the script below...
This daemon, written in C, completely eliminates the need for SetCPU and other CPU controlling apps. The daemon handles min/max frequencies for both screen on and screen off but it has one more trick up its sleeve... It can change the governor INSTANTLY depending on the screen state. I have tested it and I can tell you that it really does work instantly and I think this is going to be a great battery saver! I have set default values within the ROM as follows: Screen Off - conservative @ 192min/432max and Screen On - ondemand @ 192min/1188max. Using these settings, I get NO lag. Battery life is amazing, over 19+ hours for me with moderate usage!
If you decide that you want to change the settings of the daemon, here is how you do so...
Open up Terminal Emulator
Type "su" (without the quotes and grant it Superuser access if you haven't already)
Type "vc" (without the quotes)
Enter "1" (without the quotes) and you will see all of your options
Click to collapse
All the settings can be edited from there. If you want to verify that this is working, you can run these commands from adb shell:
Current CPU frequency
Code:
cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_cur_freq
Current CPU governor
Code:
cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor
Current min CPU Freq (you will see this change when the screen state changes)
Code:
cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_min_freq
Current max CPU Freq (you will see this change when the screen state changes)
Code:
cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_max_freq
The script is pretty good for now and I will eventually incorporate it into a large script exclusive to my ROM. However, here are a few things that you need to know about the script...
You MUST flash a custom kernel to overclock! The ROM includeds the stock kernel that is not capable of overclocking. Well why do you call it the "OC Daemon" then?? Because I didn't make it and that's what they called it AND the daemon is capable of controlling OC. Makes sense to me. If you want to overclock (after flashing a custom kernel, of course), run the script and change the MAX awake to whatever OC you would like.
The phone will boot up and detect if you're using SetCPU or other CPU apps. If you are, the daemon will be DISABLED automatically. If you aren't, the daemon will be enabled.

Roaming fix:
Ok...for anyone that flashed the roaming fix (From Duble08...theres something you didn't notice..it borked your 3d capabilities. The good news is, I found and fixed this issue, and also removed the GSM roam crap from the mobie network settings while I was at it. So heres the new fix, modded from Duble08's 'fix'. If theres any confusion about the new roaming settings menu, you want to be set on Automatic, not 'sprint only'. Sprint only WILL NOT ROAM, automatic will allow it to roam as it was intended
Roaming menu fix + 3d Fix
Too much excitement for early am....

Can i revert to my old firmware if I do flash the new one? Any downsides to flashing a virgin mobile one?

I LOVE YOU.
AND OMG WTF after battery pull to boot up in a few seconds?? um? O_O
updated SU via goo.im got Superuser rolling, everything installing now. super smooth everything, nothing to complain yet except that.
rooted from revolutionary way back days ago, used that firmware update. not a hiccup.
ill fix typing tomorrow it's late...

=============== How to Flash ===============
Download the ROM below and place on your internal_sdcard or sdcard (doesn't matter, just remember where you put it!)
Go into Settings > Power > Fast Boot and uncheck that.
Turn the phone off. Once off, press and hold the Volume Down + Power Button until you reach the white bootloader screen
Choose "RECOVERY" (volume down and up to move, power to select)
You SHOULD make a backup by tapping on the "Backup" button. You are not required, but I would recommend it.
You also SHOULD manually wipe cache, dalvik-cache, and factory reset (wipe /data). This can be done by tapping on the "Wipe" button. Choose those 3 options (and even system if you want, even though the install script does that for you)
Choose "Install" and locate the ROM wherever you put it. NOTE: If you don't see it, make sure that either internal_sdcard or sdcard is mounted. This can be done via the "Mount" button at the main menu of TWRP. Be sure that either internal_sdcard or sdcard is checked!
Wait until the install is finished and then tap "Reboot to System"

FAQ (Updated 5.29.12)

Q: Where are all the cool add-ons?
A: Check post 4 for more information. More add-ons will be posted and available in GooManager in the future.

Type "vc" (lowercase, without the quotes)
Enter "1" (without the quotes) and you will see all of your options

All the settings can be edited from there. If you want to verify that this is working, you can run these commands from adb shell:
Current CPU frequency
Code:
cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_cur_freq
Current CPU governor
Code:
cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor
Current min CPU Freq (you will see this change when the screen state changes)
Code:
cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_min_freq
Current max CPU Freq (you will see this change when the screen state changes)
Code:
cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_max_freq
Here are a few things that you need to know about the script...

Installed and running it through its paces.
I had one issue where my BT pairings weren't working. I'd pair, then look back and the pairings were gone.
Rebooted/cleared cache/dalvik/fixed permissions seems to be ok now.
Speeds are good. Doesn't seem much faster than stock, but still working on it.
So far, stable. Gotta go out in a bit so I'll look at battery life and other stuff then, but it seems typical ViperRom at this point: Fast, stable, and wonderful.
Vin, get to work on battery percents and stuff!

Use the HTC unlock method, install a recovery, then flash...
HTC Unlocked, TWRP Recovery installed and 1st custom ROM installed. Not bad for 3 days after picking up this device. Restoring apps now and will see how this one compares to stock.

I spent most of yesterday trying to figure out what I've done wrong. I did the HTC unlock method, and that was the end of things that went right. I tried to install twrp because I read that cwm wasn't working. I installed su but there is no su binary. I'm thinking that is the problem, that I can't use superuser.

Man I am an old dog at android but how come this is the first I am hearing of this?
Anyhow great to have something new to have a go at.
Your new idea is more than welcome in our sparse development area.
Thanks man.

Thanks for your work, but could you go more in detail about those?
Hi
Few questions,
Understand that it also works with Stock ROM.
1. Does it work on Stock 4.4.4 (XT1052)
2. Should xposed framework and cf.lumen drivers to be muted before flashing this engine
3. Does this conflict with greenify and should greenify be disabled
Thanks in advance.
init.d scripts much. lol

After looking over everything included really quick, to uninstall it just remove the entire /system/etc/init.d folder then remove /system/bin/fstrim and /system/xbin/sqlite3 also restore the /system/build.prop.bak and remove the modified build.prop. Also you could re-flash SuperSU to restore the install-recovery.sh file to what it was prior.
To be honest I'm not trying to be a **** but this isn't an engine, it appears to be a bunch of old gingerbread init.d scripts from various other XDA members, 23 init.d scripts to be exact. A lot of the scripts are useless on the Moto X, because they try to alter files that are no longer present on 4.4+ probably 4.2+, or they are duplicates and change the same properties two and three times to the same or different values. Also it fstrim's the /system /cache and /data partitions every boot which isn't recommended if you reboot your device frequently, and it remounts /data with no barrier. Yeah it might cut some ram usage down but that's because it's set to kill background apps almost instantly and the Moto X has 2gbs of ram so this isn't needed.
Bad answer for developer...... I restore my backup, but very bad this mod for my xt1052......
This works great for me
I noticed battery life improvements.. Thank you for the engine

PERFORMANCE- Realtime screenshot of Velocity being used on the Quadrant benchmark application.
I labeled this originally as a "graphics" app but in further research it does much more than that. It will speed up your entire system a considerable amount.
This is a completely seperate MOD from the script above and may be used in conjunction with that script or any other script.
Expect much higher framerates, smoother graphics and higher overall system performance.
Essentially you are overclocking your device with this app.
Use it CAREFULLY! Choose wisely!
THINGS TO KNOW.
This does NOT overclock your CPU or GPU. It adjusts multiple internal clock settings in your device. These clock settings will be raised by this application and could cause instability and "Blue Screens"
HOW VELOCITY OPERATES.
When you set "on boot" Velocity will save your values. When you reboot your phone it will restore your values after 10 seconds has elapsed.
If you open the app before those said times have elapsed, all values are at default and the app will say "standby". After the time has elapsed Velocity will restore your previous values and now show these values instead of "standby".

I can confirm, it is working on D855. But as it is stated by razz1 use it at your own risk.
If you don't feel safe. Back up the files with esfile or whatever you like. Backing up 3 files begining with rm command is enough. However, it is not needed cuz we all have our nandroid backup anyway or at least we all should have.
See any difference in the performance?
Tried downloading 5 times from 2 different devices, Dev host says it's 2kb, download is 19kb and won't run as instructed.

what about battery life?
Can anyone confirm that it's working?
As well as that, I'm not familliar with android coding, so what exactly does this code do? ^^
Thanks in advantage, I'm willing to try as soon as I understand what this does
Yes its working on my D850 it would be better if it would stick after reboot?

Battery life should be unaffected. These are just read ahead values, removing some logging and removing QOS that runs in the background. It's possible it may actually be better.

This isn't some jeeko rip off. Just want to be clear on that. I do my own work. I'm not saying you are implying that, I just want that to be known, thats all. This is written specifically for this device.
Work on d855 with CloudyG3 1.1

Basically when I get a new device the first thing I do is dive into the file system and pull out as much performance I can without diminishing battery efficiency.
This script is strictly designed for the G3 and will give you a decent boost in performance without any gimmicks.

Please don't quote the OP as it's a bit long [emoji4]
Anyways, here is my issue. I am VERY new to this device. Had my G3 for 4 days. Rooted, ROMed etc. I personally don't believe I have init.d support because I don't have /system/etc/init.d.
Do you have this folder someplace? Did I miss something along the way?
If you have init.d I will create a flashable zip.
