I have just installed Rom Manager Premium, and when I click in the "ROM backup option " in the menu the phone reboots, than appears a small android and a white triangle with an exclamation mark inside and stops the process. If I take the battery out and put it again, the phone restarts than the backup process is completed.
Someone can help me about this issue ??
Regards
Richard
Clockwork Recovery and ROM Manager are not so compatible with each other.
This has something to do with which kernel you are using. Try switching to another kernel instead.
Or use the CWM app from Chainfire's kernel. It works perfectly for me every time.

My Nexus One is in a funny state, my apps seem to be there but basic settings (such as my desktop background) are messed up and booting into recovery just sits there at the exclamation mark.
Before upgrading my Nexus One from its current stock FRG83 to FRG83D I wanted to backup. My phone had been rooted with z4root.
So I installed ROM Manager 2.5.0.7 and asked it to install ClockworkMod (2.5.1.0 it says I have) and make a backup. On rebooting it complained that the ROM manager unexpectedly quit.
Now I have a phone that boots, it made me go through the introductory screens.
I still have root. But I can't restore my backup (I get the exclamation point graphic).
I can't boot into the recovery (I get the exclamation point graphic).
I reregistered my Google account, and reinstalled ROM Manager, and it no longer quits, but I still can't recover.
UPDATE: I tried asking ROM Manager to reinstall ClockworkMod and restore my backup...no, got exclamation point graphic again. OK, tried to boot into recovery (worked!) and restore from there...kinda worked, listed a bunch of things it was restoring, said it completed, but on reboot I still am missing basic settings and when I try to run ROM Manager I get a complaint that it has stopped unexpectedly. I can live with ROM Manager wanting a reinstall, but I want my settings back. (Oh, ColorNote also complains on boot and won't launch manually, I don't use it, but I am wondering whether it lost its settings and is dying in a gumpy way when trying to read them.)
Suggestions?
Thanks bunches,
-kb, the Kent who googled this hoping it was a common problem, but he didn't find an answer and is starting to worry.
I'm no expert but I think what might have happened is that Rom Manager may have not installed clockwork mod properly. I know I had this issue with my HTC Magic (flashing clockword mod through rom manager I mean).
Try flashing a different recovery image and see if you can restore your backup with that. I'm using Amon_RA's recovery, theres a version of it for the Nexus one here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611829
I'm kind of a noob at this so I'm not completely sure what your problem actually is, but this may help if it's a problem with clockwork mod.
Hello everyone,
Am asking the above question because while backing up and restoring
my current ROM using ROM manager, the phone (Galaxy S2) restarts with
an exclamation mark above the android man (plz see attachment below).
It gets stuck at that screen and am forced to again restart the phone
after which the back and restore process goes smoothly.
1) My question is will flashing the original kernel solve the above problem?
2) Also will I be able to install apps requiring root permissions after I've
reflashed the original kernel??
3) And will I be able to restore my backed
up ROM if I've reflashed the original kernel??
Android: 2.3.3
FW: XWKF3
Please help
It should and it will get rid of the yellow triangle. just follow instruction in the second post of the thread from chainfire rooting thread.
Thanks for replying. Will it also solve the 2nd and 3rd queries??
2. yes, because your phoe will still be rooted.
3. yes, but you will lose any new apps that you have downloaded in te meantime because you are using a back up made from an earlier version.
Flashing the stock kernel via ODIN in Download mode will remove the Yellow Triangle.
After flashing stock kernel, you lose ROOT, so no, you cannot use applications that requires root.
If your kernel comes with CWM app, you can use that to install a rooted kernel again without incurring another tick at the Custom Binary Counter, and because of that the Yellow Exclamation will not appear.
Backing up with ROM Manager should not invoke the wraith of the yellow exclamation, and neither should restoring either, since it doesn't use Download mode. Are you sure you were using clockwork recovery to restore, and not ODIN to flash?
If the attachment is the blue triangle and not yellow, then it is not the same as the one that custom binary counter triggers.
That looks like 3e (Samsung's recovery)
Hi LiFE 1688,
I rooted my phone with an insecure kernel using this method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125414
Then I downloaded ROM Manager, flashed CWM then backed up
my ROM using the option "Backup Current ROM". For restoration
purpose, I used "Manage and Restore Backups" option within
ROM Manager.
The problem is when I try to restore or take another backup
with ROM Manager the device boots up with the exclamation
mark (as seen in the attachment above) and it gets stuck
there.
Then am forced to shutdown and restart my device after which
the backup or restoration process goes smoothly. My question
is how do I remove that exclamation mark which I get after
my device reboots for back/restore purposes.
Note: The yellow exclamation mark which is shown underneath
the Samsung start logo also persists so it would be great that
the solution also removes that yellow exclamation mark as well.
Thanks for reading.

I feel like such a n00b but I've literally flashed dozens of ROM's between my Captivate and my Infuse.
Thanks for Entropy, I have my modem back so I can make calls (thank you!).
Now I'm trying to get back into CWM but everytime I flash it in Rom Manager...then reboot into recovery I get this error..
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
And that's in 3e...it won't boot into CWM.
I tried rerooting and using the SGH-I777_ClockwordMod-Reovery_5.0.2.3.tar in Odin...when I reboot in recovery...it freezes up...
Any suggestions?
Hmm that one is odd.
Until further notice - don't use ROM Manager on our device. Kernel-included CWM is the way to go. My guess is that somehow ROM manager dorked up your system partition. You may need to Odin/Heimdall back to stock, then flash codeworkx's CWM kernel, although I'm surprised you weren't able to enter CWM after flashing codeworkx's kernel...
Edit: When you say it "freezes up" - do you mean stuck at the Samsung Galaxy S II screen, or does CWM come up?
If I flash back to stock and try to get into recovery...I get stuck at the above mentioned screen.
If I Odin the CWM 5.0.2.3 package and try to get into recovery...I get into the light blue recovery screen but every option I click on just brings me to the Rom Manager Hat Icon and does nothing (even though I don't have Rom Manager installed anymore). I get stuck in that menu...pull the battery...reboot...still in light blue CWM menu but every option just brings up the Rom Manager Icon.
Only way to "fix" is to get back into download mode, odin back to stock or re-odin the CWM 5.0.2.3 tar again. But, again, if I try to get into recovery from stock...3e recovery (ie useless) if I Odin back to CWM.tar...I get stuck in Rom Manager Icon hell.

Furthermore, the first day I had the phone, I used Rom Manager to install MUIU and it worked fine! Except I had the wrong modem (which I just found out today). I thought MIUI screwed up my phone (because I was unable to make calls) so I then flashed back to stock. Luckily someone posted the stock modem up and I installed that...phone works fine.
I'd like to get MIUI on again because it was smooth as butter and all I did is download the Rom Manager version...i Know it's not supposed to work but it did.

Might be because the buttons aren't the same as they are on the Captivate and each time you hit power or menu (which used to be select on the Captivate) it kinda blanks out the menu until you press it again. Use the volume keys to move up and down, home button to select, and back button to go back.
whoa, I'm retarded...that worked...thanks!
Yeah I was losing my mind too when I was first trying to flash Cognition. Just started mashing buttons and got lucky

I9100 roms will work to an extent, but like you noticed there roms do not support our modems or capacitive keys. Could be other things that are unsupported as well.

I lost 4 hours of kernel development time to this thinking I broke something - see below.

This is correct - it's why you see a bunch of posts between myself, codeworkx, and atinm in the CWM thread.
The current behavior is a bit odd, but it is usable, it's just not documented properly right now.
I have a similar problem, I've found that whenever I get that message, and none of the options on cwm work I pull the battery and turn it back on and the install resumes. Not sure why it hangs up like that but its led to a few tense moments already
I just rooted my phone using superoneclick, flashing insecure xwkdd kernel then flashing stock xwkdd kernel to remove yellow triangle. after purchasing Rom manager from the marketplace, i used it to flash clockworkrecovery to my phone. it then displayed that my current version was 4.1.0.5. I believe it is the latest.
Next was to boot into recovery so i could install cyanogenmod from my sd card. however when i appt into recovery from Rom manager, it would go int o recovery but while loading it will show some message about file certificate and not able to read whole package. So all im left is to reboot back to normal. I can't get tos the clockworkrecovery page. even when i do utter manually and use vol up + home + power, it goes to stock recovery. why!!!¿¿ Help please as im starting to wonder if the firmware issue.
Before anyone jumps in here to help you out, I'd just like to remind them of your last thread which looks rather familiar, with a slight difference:

Hi,
I have installed ClockworkMod recovery 4.0.1.5 on my Samsung Galaxy S2 (bought at datawarehouse and using carrier Vodafone UK).
When booting into recovery mode from the app the phone reboot and display a green android robot and above a big orange exclamation mark into a grey triangle.
When I remove the battery and put it back in the phone then boot in the recovery mode.
How to get ride of this error and be able to boot directly in recovery ?
Many thanks,
Dant'

Yes I have ROM Manager on my phone and it is when I try to reboot in recovery from this app that I have the robot and exclamation point and that I have to remove the battery to reboot the phone and finally enter recovery mode.
Rom Manager & CWM Recovery are not compatible on SGS2. If you try to use both, you will have problems sooner or later. Rom Manager tends to break recovery (which seems to have happened to you) and/or cause bootloops.
Have/use one or the other on your phone.
Oh right,
but in the wiki there is an explanation to flash the rom from ROM Manager on cyanogen wiki for Samsung Galaxy S2 (I cannot post the link as I am a newbie) and ROM Manager makes you install the ClockWorkMod recovery.
So I guess I will not use ROM Manager and backup/flash from ClockWorkMod.
Thanks for the info.
Yeah I know. I use CM9 as well. And the developers of CM9 will swear blue Rom Manager causes no problems with CWM.
But experience on here over the last few months shows RM busts CWM a lot. I ended up with bootloop the one time I tried RM Premium when I was running a kernel with CWM a few mths back.
No probs
I also have a problem with rom manager i get stuck in Tux logo when i try to reboot to recovery -.- .I dont get why didn't the same guys make cwm and rom manager?

Hi,
As said above CWM and ROM Manager have compliance issues. Two way to reboot your phone in recovery if you have properly installed CWM:
- shutdown your phone, press volume up+home+shutdown button.
OR
- adb, su ; reboot recovery
