[Q] Wifi disconnecting? - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My phone will not hold a wifi connection for more than a few seconds and I'm not sure why.
I've been using a Motorolla Flipside and my aunt has a Samsung Captivate and neither have a problem so I know it's not the router causing the trouble.
When I got this phone last week i used it for 2 days at 1.6, updated to 2.1, then finally updated to a crom of 2.3.
The problem has been here for every step.
What happens is I connect to the wifi and it works great, as soon as a lock screen or certain amount of time pass it will auto disconnect without any popup warning or anything. To get it back i have to manually go back into wifi setting and chose the connection.
Is anybody having this problem? If not, is there a shorter way to reconnect or some app that will auto reconnect for me?

Its been 1 hour since this thread opened and no one responded to op. Geez
So anyway have you tried going to advance settings and set wifi to never sleep.
Try it and let me know? And from what you said you have custom rom of 2.3, have you tried updating thru pc companion?

where is the wifi sleep option? I don't see it in "wifi settings" anywhere. And it did this on stock 1.6, stock 2.1, and on this custom 2.3 all so i don't think it's an update issue.

If you don't mind me butting in, menu key is the left hardkey on your phone.

I love you both... I never realised the menu key did anything while already inside settings. This was the problem. It was defaulted to "when screen turns off"

[Q] How to keep WiFi active when screen is off?

I wanted to keep IM software run in background so I need WiFi keep alive even if the screen is off. I'v set the WiFi policy to "Never" in settings. But it always disconnect when screen is off so my IM software will offline... I don't have this problem before. But today I have tried many Roms such as Bionix's Master's and Trigger, they all have this problem. I don't know why.. please help.
PS: I'v tried to uninstall "Super Power" to see if there are some setting cause it. But it's no help.
Thanks everyone!
Download spare Parts (Some ROMS already have it). In it there is a wifi sleep policy that you can set to "Never" as in "Never go to sleep."
EDIT: Oh, you said you already tried that. Sorry.

[Q] WIFI & Vegan Tab Ginger

I have been using Vegan Tab Ginger for about 3 weeks.
Everything was ok and then I discovered that wifi was not on every time I powered up. Previously, it automatically signed into and connected to home wifi but not now.
Any thoughts? Thanks.
Hi If you are running 5.1 I had the same problem with the wifi on that rom and it was always weak for some reason so I switched back to TNT lite and everything works well for me.
The issue is having to manually connect to home wifi everytime I boot up. Up to about a week ago with the gingerbread rom, it automatically logged into my wifi. I just re-flashed the latest pershoot kernal; still need to connect to home network manually. HELP!

Go to Wifi Settings screen, press menu. Then "Advanced".
Set the "Sleep Policy" to never. This will keep the WiFi from falling asleep, and does not have a huge impact on battery life (as you might suspect). I have mine set this way, my wife runs it for 6-8 hours a day and never goes below 40% remaining power.
It is already set to "never"; it has been set that way since I installed the ginger rom.

I've heard of something called "wifi lock" which may or may not be an app in the android market, but it is used for issues like this. Its worth looking into, and will most likely solve your problem.
Hope this helped

Q: why do I have to connect manually to wi-fi?

Running gingerbread and now when I pick my phone up from being idle it will not connect to our network automatically, I have to manually turn it on, even though it says it remembers it. I am worried about this for my data plan, hoping someone might have an idea on how to force it to connect automatically like 2.1 did. Thanks

Use search button please, this was explained many times, this is an error that has a fix for it, which rom do you have? this is the main point, do you want something good? If you want a GB rom go for WB rom or Z's rom, they are the best, for now i would say WB rom is running better, but Z's can change the balance at any time.

To change THIS policy, go to settings > Wireless & Networks > WiFi Settings
Go into advanced, and there's the WiFi Policy.

When you are at the page looking at all the available WiFi hotspots, press menu key and the 2 options will show up. The one on the right is to go to advanced menu
Oops, I almost forgot I posted this. But thank you so much, that fixed it!!

Super big thanks, I have never pressed the menu key when looking at the settings.
similar problem
I am having a similar problem, wifi shuts off when the phone ISNT plugged in, and the screen turns off. Tried the fix suggested here, didnt change anything.
What I have noticed is that my old router didnt have this issue, got a newer (and better?) one, and this started.
had this problem with my G2, and now mytouch 4g slide.
any help would be awesome, thanks.

The answer is quite simple. Go to .... Settings, find Wifi, click on the WiFi Settings NOT the On/Off Switch...when you're in that screen click on your phones Menu , Advance , and adjust your WiFi Sleep Policy.
Sorry...its called Keep WiFi on during sleep...

Or does anyone know how to set up to work correctly?
EDIT: Searching for real stable and fast ROM, dont want to slow down my E10i

the teethering stops after the screen turns off because the default settings turn off the wifi after the screen is locked ( to save battery).
so go to settings and find the wifi sleep policy option. there you can change it to remain on even after the screen is turned off.
in reply to your other question-> minicm7 2.2.1 is the best rom out there ( at least thats my opinion).
Oh, man, thank you very much! Didnt know about this option, although I saw it months before. Now I have the right settings so dont need to change to different ROM
(minicm7 roxxxxs x) )
penthaler;
i am using X10 E10i and i flashed MiniCM7-2.0.7, now wifi is not working it just keeps operating not working ?
any solution ?

Reflashing maybe helps. And if you use custom kernel, it will be much better to flash latest one with MiniCM7-2.2.1

brother, I've flashed my rom via CWM, because i couldn't understand the ( unlocking bootloader + kernel flashing ) installing from sdcard was simple, so please help to flash your way :cyclops::crying::angel:
Gingerbread 2.3.5/CM7 was the rom and no kernel.

So, the same problem still remains. Searched and tested many different settings and still, after screen turned off, the wifi tethering stops working and all devices are disconnected.
And the best joke is, that there is NO wifi sleep policy option in phone settings (or I didnt find it there). Show me the way to that option please. THX
(the one I found was only "changing wifi to 3G")
THX
btw. when using wifi tethering in girlfriends Galaxy Ace, there is no problem and all working great (even when screen sleeps). She got stock ROM with root only - no special settings!
half solved - must be pluged on charger for all options!

Yeah, but it didnt work. Tested all three options and each working (including that NEVER) only when the screen is in standby or charger is plugged. When locked after half a minute wifi stops working - ALL OF THEM!
Any other advice or special option in cyanogenmod settings? Any patch or possibility to change some file in phone system?
It is great to have this feature everywhere "on-the-go", not only at home...
Stock Kernel
CWM Recovery
MiniCM6-1.0.2
App: Barnacle (rooted phone needed)
Wifi tethering works great (just WEP encryption, though)
App tethering not working - app starts, create AP, but cant connect to it with other devices... But thanks for advice to test it.
I'm using GingerDX | v029 never had problem using wifi/usb tethering :good:
