Hi All,
I have multiple gmail accounts that I use on my Atrix. Only one of the accounts, however, is my "primary" account where I have all my contacts set up properly, the others I really just use for email. For some reason, one of my additional gmail accounts had contacts sync activated and I want to remove JUST the contacts from that sync account. Would removing the sync account delete all the contacts (and other PIM data associated with that sync account) from my phone? I can always re-add the gmail account and make sure that only the email syncs.
Thanks!

Try tapping the the accounts icon in the main app screen....it'll list all your accounts....then tap on the account you want to modify...then uncheck everything you don't want it to sync.
I did that already as soon as I discovered those contacts, but they're still there...which is why i'm wondering if removing the account altogether will remove it's PIM data...
I think you have to manually delete them. I wanted to do this but having two accounts just kind of borks it and you have to live with it. It really isn't that big a deal. I mean you do have a backup account in case somebody hacks it or the server is down for one email account.
I voided my warranty and your mum.

There is an app in the market called "Contact Remover Plus" that will do just what you need. It's not free, but it works great. I had the same issue. It will allow you to remove contacts from only one account and also allows you to transfer them from one account to another.

This has been a bit frustrating.
When you go through set-up, it gives you the option of adding a Google account which is necessary for using Market. But it also syncs your e-mail into the Gmail app and syncs your contacts. I don't want either of those because my Exchange has both contacts and I want to use the HTC mail widget for my Gmail.
I have tried various ways to prevent this from happening, but all have failed.
1. I went through set-up connecting to wifi and adding my Gmail. Then I went to options and removed syncing. But my e-mail and contacts are still in the Gmail app.
2. I did not connect to wifi so that I can first go to options and removing syncing, but that didn't help.
3. I created another generic gmail account just so I can use it for market. However, now that account is connected to my GTalk app instead of my normal account.
So here is my goal:
Use my everyday Gmail with GoogleTalk app, but without it syncing my Gmail contacts or my e-mail with the Gmail app.
Is there any way to do this? Am I missing something? Can you go to the syncing options without actually setuping the Google account first?
Thanks for the help.
Also, while we are on the topic:
What is the main difference between the two? I keep reading online that the Gmail app is supposed to be Push e-mail, but I have also read just as many posts saying it doesn't work or it doesn't do that.
I figured out a solution:
1. Go through set-up and connect to Wi-Fi, but do not set-up a Google account. Skip it.
2. Go to Settings>Syncing>Checking Auto-Sync and Sync in Background
3. Settings>Add Account>Google Account
And here is where you need some fast fingers...
4. Settings>Check Sync in Background and Auto-Sync and quickly click on Google Account you just set-up and uncheck Sync Contacts, Calendars, and E-mail.
I was able to uncheck e-mail sync, but it had synced some of my contacts already. That wasn't a problem b/c I haven't set up my Outlook account so I just deleted all the Google contacts it had synced. But I was fast enough where I didn't let it sync Gmail account.
Now no e-mails in Gmail app and I can use Google Talk.
I just got my View and set it up similiar to my Evo Shift with three email accounts..two exchange and one gmail. On the Shift I was able to select which Google components to sync (mail, contacts, calendar). Since I have almost 1000 contacts in one Exchange account I want that to be the only one I sync. I only use Google as a backup for contacts and don't use the calandra. I only need to sync mail. It appears that the View doesn't give me a option to select or unselect which Google components I want to sync and automatically sync'd the Google Contacts and mail and calendar. What did I miss? Anyone else notice this?
Root and delete the google contact sync adaptor apk (I think that's the name...it's been a while since I deleted it). You can also delete the google calendar sync adaptor apk and that will remove the sync options.

The instructions above give you the server settings to just set gmail up as an IMAP server in an email client. I am not sure how exactly it works on the view, but you should be able to set up these server settings manually in the mail client.
Could anybody say what is happening with the GMail account. I have my contacts in Outlook and synced them with my phone, then added the gmail account. After deleting gmail account from accounts in settings all my contacts are gone. What the ...???
A also noticed that when I have an existing gmail account I cannot set individual ringtone to a contact. When it's gone everything works. Anyway I don't want this gmail to sync everything, especially my contacts. Does anybody know why the hell on earth this crap is going on? Why can't I just use my contacts without gmail sync and other strange effects.

Yes happened with me too.
Totally idiotic.
And the worst part?
When I synced back the Google account... The contacts didn't come back properly.
All messed up and duplicates.
Idiotic.
Luckily I had taken a backup few days back and deleted all contacts and restored the backup.
I have totally disabled my contacts sync up with Google.
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S3
The only way that helped me is to sync my contacts with my outlook without creating gmail account, then set up all personal contact ringtones and only after that create gmail account in the phone without sync options.
I have the phone running Android 2.3.4 (rooted).
I have two Google accounts setup on my phone. I use both of them as there are apps purchased from both accounts.
I would like to sync contacts from my phone to BOTH the accounts. As of now, contacts are being synced to just one Google Account. In the "Accounts and Sync", I see both the Google Accounts listed, with the "Sync Contacts" option enabled for both accounts.
Is it possible to sync contacts to both GOOGLE accounts from the phone? If yes, how?
Any help is appreciated.
Shameless bump... any help please?
So you want to have
Contact X to be on both Google Account A and on Google Account B at the same time? and have it appear two times on your phone?
I want contact X to be shown in both google accounts, A & B. However, I will prefer no duplication in the phone.

I'm also interested in this. In Options/Filter you can choose which accounts will display contacts, so you can avoid seeing duplicated contacts. Basically I'm interested in keeping the contacts in my personal Google account (which is the one synced with Outlook, to which I add new contacts) synced with my school Google apps account and ideally my Live account, for when I have to use the webmail interface of either one of those two. An option that pours (one-way sync) the contacts from one account to the other is also ok, as I don't expect to have anything synced from my school or Live account to my personal one.
Whenever I configure my Google account on any new phone all the contacts are automatically copied from Gmail contacts to device phonebook.
These contacts are synced between my old phones and Gmail and are with Google servers.
I can delete all contacts from Gmail app in order to stop this auto contacts sync.
My question here is if I do so will it delete all contacts from device as well. I have unchecked auto sync-up data option in contacts settings. And how
to stop this contacts sync between phone and Gmail.
I back up contacts as svf and export to SD card, and I don’t want my contacts to on Google servers.

If you have disabled the auto-sync (Settings > Google account > Uncheck Contacts) contacts won't be synchronized but you can do what you want on Google servers it will never modify the phone data.
FYI if sync is ON and if you delete a contact on Google servers (from the webpage) it will be deleted on your device too.

When I was configuring my new devie I copied all my contacts using a vcf file which I got from my previous device, but later when auto-sync
happened, there were multiple contacts for same name.
Here I would like to know if I delete all contacts from Google server (logging in through webpage) and doing a sync, will it delete those contact as
well created by copying from vcf. I mean those contacts did not came from my Google account so that have nothing to do with Google sync.

No. It will only remove the contacts mentioned on Google servers.
