One touch root - Motorola Photon 4G

Working on a one touch root for anyone who is interested in trying it when I'm done. Have tested it on my own photon and works fine. This is for stock photons that have not been updated. Just wrapping it up in an nice package before i release it. I will be working on the updated software here pretty soon.

A one touch or one-click root basically already exists : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1217416
Download the files...download the drivers...plug in your phone...enable USB Debugging and run the Root.bat file and it does everything for you .
Keep up the work though. The more the merrier. Good job .

Root questions

Hey guys, I'm not so new around here, I have trolled for a bit, not stealing stories, just reading and learning. I know that you cannot at present time go to root from leak, that you can't roll back from leak to 1.5. Or make the phone turn into a motodroid. My question is this. I just got a new Eris today, my last one, which was leaked, seemed to have usb port problems in the last few hours, so I am at 1.5 again, I am going to root this time, now.... should I download the 2.1 OTA update that VZW is offering me right now and then root, or root right off the bat?
OTA has the same features as leak v3. just root and get an awesome Rom.

I didn't know if there would be a reason for me to OTA before rooting, such as radios and stuff like that

ROOT!! You can download the latest radio from the OTA from this forum and flash it. There is no benefit from doing the OTA first.
I'm trying to use EMA and it isn't working, Windows 7. When it comes to restarting the phone it isn't finding pb000img.zip
edit--- nm I figured out what I was doing wrong, I had changed the sdcard to disk drive instead of leaving it at charge only r00ting now
well for the ema, for support go to my thread, or hop in our irc server. info at bottom of signature.
but for the app, the phone never needs to be out of charge only mode. make sure the .exe and the ema_files folder are at the root of your c:\ drive
Eclips3 you did a great job on that program. Im rooted and even learning the sdk some. I appreciate this.

Woot and your x 10 is rooted
Use at your own risk
can anyone confirm thnis.. this looks damn esy
yup, it works ! ^^ , tks anyway!
i already rooted my x10A to the 23 rom, which version does this root ur X10 to? and btw anyone tested this on the X10A?
let me know!
thanks
Will it work for x10a???
Could this be the holy-grail (from a user standpoint at least) of rooting? I'd love to hear comments on it's success (I'm already running 026 rooted, otherwise I'd try it).
As much as I appreciate all the work the X10 root devs have put into getting root on this phone and providing a solution for we lowly masse: I'd love a single-step solution. Seeing solutions for other phones like the one-touch root for the Galaxy S and jailbreakme.com do make me a bit jealous.
I am on rooted 026 too, otherwise will have a try.
Anyway, if it is true, that would be great for it is easier to do. Could any dev check and see if this way has any inspiration to your work.

From a quick glance at it I'd say it's the X10 mini exploit packaged and automated into an apk. Since the exploit appears to be a generic userland exploit it would explain how it works on so many devices.
Is there a way to unroot?

The apk has a unroot button too so that you can reverse the rooting process before you return your device to se for whatever reasons
i was so excited that i reflashed and rerooted with this.
works a charm. fantastic!!!
the superuser is not working. whats the fix?
mine works perfectly with superuser privilege
i used another one from the other thread "X10Root" and it works perfectly. rooted after clean update via seus. now on R2BA026. it includes superuser.apk. i think this one doesnt.
tested, and proved to work perfectly. really convenient.
There is one big problem with this root method, I can't get ADB to work. Operations are not permitted :/
Right heres a really stupid question--Will this work with the Apps Installer app or no I need the SDK from Android.Im totally new to Android and just picked up an X10i.This root seems to be the easiest so far--Stuck on Vodafone Ireland @ Rf014 (I think) so I need to root and upgrade to a later version.
I'm scared to trying this should i give a shot?
works fantastically on my 26
its the apk built from xperia mini root method
it works well with xperia too

Pure ignorance

I really need help!!! I'm new and used unlockr.com to root my phone since it had step by step instructions. Well I was successful at the root part but I'm stuck at loading a custom Rom. My command prompt makes me put cd c:/AndroidSDK/AndroidSDK/tools to get anywhere, which is not the way he showed it. I downloaded the flash and recovery image in the sdk tools folder and on my SD card. My comp reads an android abd interface. I installed 2.1 & 2.2 platforms on sdk manager. In my c: I put abd device and it gives me a serial number but it will not let me do the rest of the instructions such as adb shell, etc. I really would be indebted for some help. I'm using windows vista 32-bit.

I've never even heard of unlockr.com. I went there and it's some random search website. Did you just search for how to root the Eris from that website? I'm confused.
Anyway, I think you're making things too complicated for yourself. Go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=742228
That should give you everything you need as far as rooting and installing the Amon RA recovery image all in one go.
I certainly will. Thanks for the help. Yes, I googled how to root and that was what seemed easiest.

What is a good all around custom Rom? And could anyone steer me in the right direction to maybe a list of Rom if there is one available?

i used the unlockr version and i ended up having to look at other sources as well because i was quite confused head over to eris dev. thread and several are there..... Tazz v6.....CELB 1.9.....KaosFroYo....these are the 2.2ish ROMS
Search for jcase's Known ROMS, hacks, and patches. It's in the Eris dev section. I'm using Eris lightning 3.02 and it works very well for me. A good strong reliable 2.1 sense based Rom with 710mhz overclock and apps2sd working perfectly. The few 2.2 froyo Roms are good, but not quite there yet. You can go to Android.grdlock.net to find the downloadable links to all the Eris roms.

[UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER] released!!! 8/14/11{WILL KILL 4G}

First off i wish to apologize to everyone...I had no idea that this will bork your 4g and i have been working almost non stop trying to get it fixed but i am afraid it is beyond the scope of my reach. I honestly feel that it is indeed similar to the original evo unlock with the loss of rsa keys and i am trying to figure out a way to backup and restore said keys. i know there is a tut for the evo but different file system and structure so its' going to take some digging.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO UNLOCK
Unlocked SBF
FASTBOOT
WORKING KNOWLEDGE OF FASTBOOT
Download the Unlocked SBF and flash with RSDLite like you would any other SBF
After flashing the unlocked sbf you will need to turn off your phone to put the phone in fastboot mode(hold vol down while pressing power then once you see fastboot press the volume up)
Using your cmd promt cd to your fastboot(example: cd c:\android-sdk\tools\moto-fastboot directory)and Run “moto-fastboot oem unlock”
You will see
C:\Data\Sunfire\HW\Security_Tokens>fastboot oem unlock
... INFOUnlocking your device can permanently VOID your warranty.
INFOThis process cannot be reversed. If you wish to proceed,
INFOreissue the unlock OEM command containing the unique ID
INFOof your device: ########### (device generated ID will appear in this like not number signs)
OKAY [ 0.002s]
finished. total time: 0.002s
Using the UID provided above. Run the below command.
Run “moto-fastboot oem unlock ###########
NOTE: DO NOT reset phone between commands.
When you power cycle the phone “unlock” will be seen on start up screen (Red Moto logo)
[SYSTEM.IMG FOR UNLOCKED DEVICES ONLY] {YOU WILL LOSE DATA AND YOU HAVE TO BE OK WITH THAT BEFORE USING THIS METHOD}
Once you're booted you will need to regain root by any of the working methods in other threads or by flashing a system.img (THE IMG IS INSIDE THE RAR JUST EXTRACT IT)in moto-fastboot created by the2dcour, then getting superuser.apk from the market.
0) Make sure your phone is charged.
1) Boot your phone in to fastboot mode, connected to PC.
2) At the prompt/cmdline type moto-fastboot flash system system.img
3) Make sure you have superuser app installed from market.
4) Enjoy!
Instructions ganked from the2d...YOINK!
[DO NOT FLASH THIS SYSTEM.IMG IF YOU ARE NOT UNLOCKED]
I recommend this method of gaining root as it is much easier than previous methods.
want to thank edgan and the2dcour for all their hard work and help with releasing this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and of course he who remain nameless...TYVM FINE SIR!
Wow. Wish i had a resume and good background Love to help anyway i can. Good luck Yay...

I started developing 5 years ago for the HTC Vogue. I was one of the most well known developers for that particular device. I created the diamond theme rom and was the first developer to successfully port Manila 2D to the Vogue.
I then began working with NFSFAN on OpenGL drivers for windows mobile for the Vogue. We came close, but never got it stable enough to be usable.
After that I ported the entire leaked HTC Mega ROM to the Vogue and has it running without bugs in under a day. After that I went to Android and retired from development until the Motorola Photon 4G. I announced this would be the first device I would publically develop for.

Super secret? maybe rooting without HD dock. If we can adb push pulse in to local/tmp, we might be able to root p4g without dock.
I bet it has something to do with his name!

No issues at all after using it. However, kingroot will install its own superuser app and I have not been able to replace it with supersu (It should be possible with a custom recovery).
Root works fine without supersu but you could try following these instructions after you root if you want to get rid of king root: http://www.yomitech.com/2015/02/how-to-replace-kinguser-with-supersu.html
I got root failed with king root?!?! edit: I used kingo root and that worked. You know if xposed works on this tablet.

I forgot to mention that I did not allow the software update to run before I used king root. That could be the only difference between the 2 tablets. I won't try Xposed until we at least get a custom recovery

I hope there's some development for this tablet.
Have had mine since release and I love it I own a Nexus7 2013 and it is as fast as that one , it so far has handled all the emulator games I have thrown at it like a champ I have loaded N64 games and some NDS games I got and has played them great. Also I love the fact I was able to add a 64GB micro in for extra storage well worth the 199.00$ price tag!
Got rooted with KingRoot and later replaced with SuperSu
See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=61168022&postcount=30
Didn't try Xposed yet, but should work under SuperSu
Give exposed a try and let us know if it works. Thanks
I used King root and it worked just fine...until my son used it and did an update. Now it is bricked. Here's hoping that it becomes popular enough to have its own forum and someone creates a decent ROM for it.
For the price it has good (enough) resolution, color and speed.
Have you tried holding power and volume up for about 10 seconds to get into recovery and do wipe/reset?
I did. I can get into recovery, did wipe and restored factory but nothing. It looks like the files created by kingroot were not compatible with the update.
BTW sent a PM
