[Q] Sony's Exmor R for Xperia x10 - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
since we already got Bravia Engine, xLoud, DLNA. is it possible if we add Sony Exmor R into x10? i sometimes take pictures at night club, even with light on and Bravia Engine by Z, the picture still not satisfying.

Uhh...
Pretty sure the Exmor R Sensor on the Arc is a physical hardware sensor on the phone...
No dice.

What if we tear an Arc up, detach the lens and attach them on the X10?

No need, just steal them from arc's ROM.

Ya,we can do that,i think

or we make imaginary sensor controlled by software...
just like zoom (real camera using hardware where lense moving in and out but phone just using software)
crazy isnt it?

Taking pictures: its more to do with the photographer then the camera. I bet if you give me an extreme low end camera I can still get a decent picture from it.
Dont use auto focus in such low light such as a club...use infinity.....if you dont keep steady when you press that shutter button your gonna end up with a blurry picture because under low light your shutter speed will be to slow. The flash on the X10 sucks and isnt anywhere close enough to compensate for the slow shutter speed. Ive taken pictures in clubs with this exact phone...by resting my elbows on a table to help keep as steady as possible my pictures have been really good considering.
Exmore r is hardware sony uses (sensor) even in the mid-high end point & shoots....therefore cannot be used on our X10.

Glad to see there is one person at least here that knows the fundamentals of photography and possibly even more.
Someone has to read some things about taking night pictures the importance of existing light and how exactly your shutter behaves when you are in night capture mode rather than requesting better hardware thinking that he's asking about software or some kind of MOD (aka Exmore R).

hey guys this is a spoof thread here about x10 cam, i though i could get some for my cam but figure out that i my end up getting an app or widget of a sensor heheheeh and that will make my cam to work at night heheheeh

[Q] Xperia X10 Camera

Hello Guys, Im new to this forum with N number of Qns , because Im just a beginner of the smart phone users. I have got a new SE Xperia x10 and was very excited to capture the pictures using 8.1M camera.. But unfortunately the quality of the pictures that I have taken so far made me disappoint, still the HD video recording looks good. My question here is when the Video quality is good, how can the image quality be poor that we use the same camera for both the purpose. Also, is there any fix available to improve the camera quality, because i strongly believe that its not a hardware issue.
Thanks in advance
Most people have found that using a camera app called "Vignette" improves photos taken greatly.
Here is a link to it in the Android Market: https://market.android.com/details?id=uk.co.neilandtheresa.NewVignette&feature=search_result

hmm..Let me also have a try.. but can anyone shed some light on my question, rather than finding out an alternate solution, Im very curious to know about the cause of the poor Image quality with a "8.1" camera

Yes.. However I'm still not clear about what could be the possible reasons for a 8.1MP camera to perform so badly while dealing with the still images, but works good while dealing with the Video recording..Hardware or Software or Settings or etc..????. I beg your pardon if I have been so much curious.
One thread is enough.
Also, practise with the camera.
It's one of the best 8MP phones so the problem shouldn't be the phone

I really think you need to learn more about photography. Mp dont mean anything when it comes to camera quality. I take outstanding pictures with this phone...and if you would like a link to another forum on pictures taken with this camera i can show you....it will blow your mind. I already explained how to get the best out of your camera in another thread. Did you turn off image stabiliser?
Do you expect dslr quality from a smartphone? Cuz it wont happen.
I would strongly suggest practicing with your camera like flo said.
Im not trying to be rude, im really not. But this is one of the best camera phones out there believe it or not.

Ok, here are my settings:
Capturing Mode: Normal
Resolution: 6mp Wide (16:9) I use that more that 8mp because I like the widescreen pictures...and remember lower mp doesn't mean less quality!
Scenes: Normal
Focus Mode: Infinity...or macro for close up shots
photo light: always off
self timer: off
metering: Center weighted or average...spot metering is used for when your taking a picture and the light from the background is darkening your subject. Its not what you wanna use all the time...only for those situations when needed. average metering also known as matrix would be the most accurate.
White Balance: depends...if its cloudy outside ill use cloudy, if its bright and sunny ill use daylight or just auto. Most of the time I stick with auto. But playing with it properly gets nice results
image stabilser: always always off!
smile level: Normal
the +/- is the EV control I was talking about. yes it goes from -2 to +2.
And here is how I always always use it.
if its bright and sunny outside, or you just have alot of light, I will usually lower it to -1 or -0.7
Inside pictures, or low light situations I lower it to about -0.3 maybe -0.7. What that does if darkens the photo but eliminates low light noise.
Try that for a while and see what kind of pics you get. Also, keep a steady hand. When I take pictures with my phone I wrap both hands around the phone and hold it firmly to reduce any hand shake that might happen. I just find that works best for me.
@manussnair: Check your PM.
Thanks

Yep I know.
the software is what determines the quality you are looking for. The camera will construct the picture/video information like pixel info, frames, etc. but the software is responsible for cleaning it up.
i find the X10's camera amazing, it takes crystal clear pictures IMO and i can even use them as wallpapers on my PC and they are still clear.

Any tips how to get decent low light camera shoots. Every camera shoot I take it becomes blurry.
Turn image stabiliser on and in low light use one of the night modes. Only disadvantage is you can take steady pictures (nobody moves and you don't move camera). But people have to bear in mind, it is camera phone, not proper digital camera, where you have 10 other options to use, like shutter timing.
This video was taken in auto mode..

Camera is good no doubt but coming from xperia Arc , I expected more. Image quality is nearly identical to Arc and looses up against '8MP' Iphone 4S camera in terms of sharpness and colours from the pics I saw over the internet. I do not understand why are they not proving Xenon flash. It would have made camera even more useful. Somehow I feel Sony is not trying its best. Potential is there to make a perfect phone but Sony fails to deliver the killing punch. And this is coming from Sony lover

Had a similar experience between the C902(5MP) to X10(8MP) where the resolution went up the actual picture quality is equal or lower.

I have the same problem: images from the front camera are too dark. Useless for video chat unless the face is illuminated directly by a strong light source.
Luckily, I don't generally use video chat, so it's not a deal-breaker for me. But still, an annoyance.

It's strange this is from a natural source of light. And it is a lot better. Maybe it could be something to do with the type of light. I'am glad it is not only me.

The front cam is ok wen it is focussed on natural light even I to face the same problem...
The cam is dark wen I take it to my room for video chat but its absolutely fine when I take it out to sunlight
So it depends on the type of light and the brightness of light
So in short dont worry your tab and cam is ok there is no defect....guess since it is 0.3mp. It dosent have the ability to capture dim light perfectly....

I agree on that, its dim and dark only when inside room, but in natural bright sunlight or where there is more light, it acts normally.
I don't have this problem when video chatting with my friend using QQ, but they are all during day time.

How to Improve Low Light Pictures on Xperia S

The Camera of Xperia S performs very good durind daylight conditions but at night the pictures seems to have a bit noise. Although there's no focussing problems now. I use Stock Camera app and sometimes Camera 360 for taking pics. Can u all suggest me some good apps/settings to reduce noise in low light/night pictures as well as to improve overall picture quality!

Put a big flash on it and increase the sensor size, that's the only way.
I just wanted to ask the same question, the primary reason that I bought this phone is due to its camera ..tho the stock app kind of disappointing and seems the rom doesn't really fully take advantage of the camera itself..

Camera Focus on Xperia Sola.

Don't know if this problem is asked before, but its really bad with the camera when it comes to focusing in ICS...
was far better with GB...!!!
But recently i tried on Xperia Acro S, which also had ICS, but it doesn't have a hint of this issue, the camera just focuses
right away even in low light and the image is stunning sharp.
I know its a 12MP, but still whats holding the focus, i don't understand....!!!
Please if anybody out there can find a better solution to this...
Also in another way. is it possible to port the camera app from GB to ICS..??
the xperia sola's camera performs like s*** especially in low light, i haven't experienced that while using cm9 though.
I agree, GB was quite good with the camera.
That's not the case with ICS though, before .54 it was even worse as it couldnt even take the pic when it turned on the led and it took it half a second later.
With .54 now, it's much better but camera app lags like hell and sometimes it reboots.
poor night vision!
same is the case with my sxu...day photographs are really good..but night pics are really bad...night mode seems to be of no use and flash is too bright!
So is it possible to port the camera app from GB to ICS..?? anyone..????

i tryed Cyber-Shot Mod and all things, many xperia sola ICS roms, kernels and i cant solve it
Guys, all of you missing a point. If you are using even standard camera not phone cam, might be a problem to focus in low light. Its caused by sensor sensitivity. Its very small, doesnt matter how much megapixels or how big iso. Sensitivity is only one and iso gets higher with software. All you need is contrast. Try a small test, get low light and try focus into complete dark, you will not get focus, even with DSLR you get nothing. But find a spot where dark gets lighter and try focus, you will get something.
Most cameras these days are using small light to get a bit of light into darkness, if you have this function, use it and you will get better low light focusing.
Its not a bug, its a physics.
EDIT: sola doesnt have this functionality. But you can still focus in spot where is high contrast e.g. light dark place in actual pic. Or use flashlight to get some light. And you canask rizal, cyber shot creator, to add this functionality into cyber shot mod.
