Hi,
when I had stock samsung firmware I had a widget that easily let me free RAM and see what applications were running. Does anyone know if you can get the APK file for this widget and install it on CyanogenMod?
PS: I am talking about the widget in the picture that says Active Applications.
Thanks
anyone????????
I'm looking for this too, I thought it's part of the TouchWiz launcher, was surprised to see it's not there with the custom ROMs

the widget's called Program Monitor by the way
Try "active apps" in the market.

Does anyone think it would be possible? The widget is nice and clean, telling you the amount of apps running. If it is possible, I'd like to use it in LauncherPro.
Me too (running Galaxy S I9000 though). I had a play around, found I could run it as an 'activity' in LauncherPro, but only running in its own little screen, not as a widget. Had a play around with the apk and some basic dev tools, considered either copying the app but making it a regular widget which could then be installed like any other, or creating a new app that runs the existing activity (like LauncherPro) as a widget. Unfortunately, either I'm not skilled enough or it's not possible (or both - I'm not skilled enough to properly work out that it's not possible ).

Like most widgets, just being able to glance at the Program Monitor widget rather than open Task Manager is faster, that's all
Good news - I looked into this a while ago and was stumped as per my previous post. Then a couple of days ago I stumbled upon how to properly decompile the widget's apk, which I have now done. Very busy with other work right now, but will look into trying to turn it into a widget that runs on any launcher as soon as I get the chance - hopefully as an easily installable apk file (by recreating the program as a standard widget), but possibly might need to be an update.zip file (modifying the program in /system/app to run as a standard widget). Will post any updates.
That would be awesome - I have been googling this for a while now and I didn't think it was possible to do. Keep us posted!
The same as me ! Keep us posted if any news !
I too would like to get just this running again.
Any word on this? I love the widget.

Can't believe that i haven't came across this thread but if it hasn't been answered. A port has been created and it's called "Active Apps". Try a search in a market and it should appear.
Well the closest you are going to get it seems is active apps. It's not as fast, and it doesn't show everything (I.E if you hold home and bring up the task manager, it will show your aftermarket launcher as an active app, where Active Apps doesn't show it if it's running on top of it)and it's a little laggy, but you can theme the icon, change colors, it doesn't monitor battery use and change colors but it's still the best you are going to get for a program monitor style app.

Is there anyway to get stock 2.1 task manager widget on home screen? Im running Axura 2257 and have Launcher pro. I did find the widget and its located in sd/ system/ apps/ SamsungWidget_ProgramMonitor.apk.
Unfortunately, the Samsung widgets do not run on third-party launchers. I have never heard of anyone getting them to work on anything but the TouchWiz launcher.
Would be nice, I'd love to use Feeds & Updates, the Task Manager widget and the Music Player widget...

This is sad!! Hopefully someone will find a way to get them to work on custom ROMs.
I was also looking for the feature which tells you which app has how much battery...this was also in stock 2.1. Its not a widget but you could get to its screen from menu > settings> display or battery (i think) . Axura 2257 does have a utility in 'sgs toolbox > usage statistics' that tells you which app has been used for how long ..but the layout sucks and i cant make out in a glance who (which app) is the power hog. This is something im really missing from stock 2.1. OK im done whining.... lol...
I see you running Axura 226...how is it different than 2257, that is, if you have used 2257?
is there anyway to remove this samsung touchui and just have basic android launcher?
Member for 3 years and over 500 posts and you need this kind of question answered?
Install a different launcher, press the home button and set the new one as default. If you want to completely remove TouchWiz, freeze/uninstall the related system APKs afterwards.
A search for "AOSP launcher" on the market returned a theme for ADW launcher.
maybe i should have wrote a little more as to what i was fishing for.
I basically wanted to know if anyone had a list of all the apks that samsung touchui used that could safely be removed rather than just disable or install a seperate launcher.
thanks for the reply i will continue my search.

Create a custom rom based on the Stock GS2 Rom and remove the std TochWizUI.
http://romkitchen.org/sgs2/
Else ger ADW or Go Launcher Ex and set it as default .......

Removing APKs won't magically give you a replacement launcher. TouchWiz isn't sitting on top of another one. If you remove it, you'll need a replacement regardless.
It sounds to me like you'd be better with an AOSP ROM rather than Samsung ROM if you're looking for a "pure" experience. But if you do want to stay stock, see Applications Safe To Remove, which has a spreadsheet showing what most of the APKs are and which are okay to remove. Remember though, if you remove the Samsung custom elements, you're going to need replacements.
Excellent, this is what i was looking for. Cheers
Hey,
I currently am running AOKP 4-11-12 and I was wondering if it were possible to install the Samsung Task Manager as I prefer that to the one in the ROM and I cant find any other good task managers on the market.
So is it possible to download and install the APKs for the Samsung task manager or will it not work with this ROM?

There is a de-Touchwizzed one here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1452004
I haven't tried the Task Manager but I have used some of the other apps in that thread. Note: it doesn't integrate at the bottom of the recent apps list, but you can launch it as a normal application using methods such as custom home long press app, launcher gestures, search long press, etc.

Thanks! Just to clarify, have you used these apps with AOKP or with some other ROM?
I've been using the Clock and Calculator with AOKP and CM9. Once separated from TouchWiz, they are pretty much normal apps. But, they are not perfect! For instance, alarms can't be set in the Clock. I use the AOSP Clock for alarms, the TW Clock for stopwatch/timer functions. Again, I haven't tested the Task Manager, but the thread is short enough that you see if people are having problems.
This is also out there--again I have no first hand experience, but it's all really easy to find by Googling:

Hello there. I wonder if there app available to sort application by name in Optimus UI launcher? Like Appzorter for Touchwiz.
I'd rather not install another launcher, but if that's the only way, I'm open to suggestion. In the past I use Go Launcher, but feel it quite "heavy" on system resources (on my old Galaxy Ace).

You can sort it manually. Otherwise you will have to use another launcher.

That is my biggest annoyance with the LG launcher.
Bummer.
Right now I'm using Nova Launcher with Touchwiz theme I feel it quite fast. For weather I'm using Yahoo! Weather. Still trying to find free calendar widget like one built in.
Em, right touch button and reset, I think it will sort app by name.

That does sort them. It sorts alphabetically the built in apps first. Then after that alphabetically the downloaded apps.
It is a little better, but it would be nice to have all of them mixed together in alphabetical order. Can't have everything we want.
