I tried to use APK manager.. But you see, I'm noooooob After several steps I got new Phone.apk file and tried to put it into the phone but it did not work.
I tried to unzip the Phone.apk file, replaced the .png file, zip it into Phone.apk, put it back into ROM and flashed the ROM
well I got the old icon like this
the only changed thing is [VOICEMAIL] dialer 2.3.5 in Titanium backup
can someone help me with this? I just want to replace the icon

well, I just rename Phone.apk to Phone.zip, then replace ic_launcher_phone.png and rename .zip file back to Phone.apk, put it into extracted ROM then compress and flash to device
First of all, please, don't post questions to development section, use Q&A section.
Did you sign the apk?

I signed the apk using APK manager
think I'll go on myself!!!
thank you anyway
Did you replace ALL copies of that icon? Cause if I remember correctly, there is also a drawable-ldpi or something like that. And resigning it / decompiling it using apkmanager is unnesscary. Just open the apk with 7-zip and replace the icon files.

I have a couple GB themed MMS applications in my thread you can try too. There's a link in my signature. If you flash my theme you'll have all the gray GB notifications in the status bar, that's what you're going for right?

Yup, this is the best way to do it. Gut your .apk file, edit the image in res folder, resign .apk, and reinstall.

i just extract the apk files with winrar then edit the folder and drop it back in the APK with winrar. works the same and dont have to resign every time i make a change.

Thanks man, really appreciate it.
Alot of ppl wonder how to change the battery animation so here you go.
I know that it can be done manually by extracting .apk and then editing the files,
but using UOT Kitchen is just too damn simple so why even bother.
Even tho UOT Kitchen is easy enough some of the users dont know what to do there so imma take some screenshots to break it down.
1. Use Root Explorer or any other method to get framework-res.apk from /system/framework
2. Head to UOT Kitchen and upload your framework-res.apk as shown on the screenshot.

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
3. After the file is uploaded move to Battery tab and pick out wich animation you want for ur framework. You can also check out bootanimations... the list they have is quite good, but you have to know where bootanimation.zip is located on ur ROM.
4. After clicking Generate Preview you can head to Summary tab. Everything should be green n "Submit work to kitchen" clickable. Do that... click that damn button and head to pickup page. It shouldnt take longer than 5-10m. Dont forget ur order number tho.
The file will comes in .zip form what can be installed trough xRecovery - "Install custom zip"
You can also extract the .zip and push framework-res.apk to its place manually.
Thanks to user propc who made a script for changing framework so its quite easy. Script and tutorial on using it at.
And tyvm UOT devs for making life easier.
I have used UOT Kitchen to edit frameworks of different 2.1 and 2.2 ROMs so it should work on all of em.
Back up your rom before making any changes cause editing system files can brick your device.

Hey guys, currently running on Cog 1.5. Is there anyway I can like manually replace the Contacts and MMS app so I can get these sick dock icons? If so can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks

Unfortunately I think you might have to install a different launcher like ADW or Launcher Pro to get this functionality. Doesn't seem to be possible with the stock launcher included in Cog.
You can replace the corresponding apps image with the one you want. I attached the icons for you. These are the steps I use, its pretty easy. Back up the contacts and mms apk before you do anything. They are located in the system/app folder. You will need root explorer or something similar with root access.
1) Maker a copy of the mms and contacts apk and transfer it to your computer
2) Use winzip or 7zip and decompile the app
3) Navigate to to the "res" folder and then to "drawable-hdpi"
4) Copy and paste or drop the new icon and copy over the old one.
5) Exit out of winzip or 7zip and transfer the apk with the new icon back to your phone's system/app folder and copy over the old one.
Let me know if you have any questions.
I stand corrected!
Thanks KayvinM

When you say you unpacked it, did you actually decompile the apk file or just unzip it?

Hi,
Here is a light contribution to Motorola mods.
Following instructions about how to decompile, modify, recompile and sign an app (apktool and sign+ are the used tools), I did the mod of the Messaging.apk from Razr M that was previously posted here, including Black smileys previously found in xda thread (but I can't rememeber which one )
[UPDATE] 'just found where to download them out of xda forum here
[UPDATE 2] 'just found the post where I initially found the black smileys here
As not all original green moto smilies are changed, this shall be considered as a "test" version, but it is fully working on XT910 (Razr Maxx) as I only changed the content of res/drawable-hdpi.
[UPDATE 3] I finally finished to replace all smileys. For those that were missing, I did some of them modifying the original ones. I also modified the app icon, and, I changed the app name into "Mms_black_emo" in lieu of "mess_test"

For those who want to do similar job, note that you must change both ic-control-"emotion" and ic-list-"emotion" files. The 1st is for the preview when using "insert an emoticon" option and the 2nd is the one that is visible in your sent message.
To install it:
go into system/app
backup the original mms.apk (or messaging.apk) by renaming it into mms.bak (or messaging.bak) using a file explorer (e/s file explorer is OK for that) with root access in case of something goes wrong
copy the app in system/app folder of your phone
change properties to RW-R-R
reboot your phone
enjoy
Please note that I let the smileys a little bit larger than the original green ones as I wanted them to be easily seen in the app.
For information, Gimp is the soft I used to rescale the original pics.
Have fun !

The original app runs on ICS. I don't know if it is the reason of your trouble. For information I am running stock ICS ROM with root.
