at least you guys answered his question.
Devs are working on it. You will have to wait.
Really? How does this relate to development?
Your no better.. you still didn't answer the ops question.
Use a program called barnacle tether.
Downloading as I type. Will let you know what I think after I flash! Can you post some screen shots please?

I dont know dude. I have a thread on PPCGeeks about this and every one is using it just fine including myself: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/htc-evo-3d/145296-guide-free-3vo-wifi-tether.html
Just sayin...
Android wifi tether only works with a compatible kernel (not the stock one)

If people have problem with wifi tether V3_1 beta1.apk, please try wifi tether 2_0_2.apk. It should work fine. Make sure your phone has temp root otherwise you will have error. First I also have problem with wifi V3_1_beta1.apk, it works only once after that it no longer works, then I install wifi tether 2_0_2.apk, it works flawlessly. I test again by uninstalling wifi tether 2_0_2.apk and reinstall wifi tether v3_1beta1.apk, somehow it works since then. In fact,I am posting this with wifi tethering.

This isn't quite true as I'm currently running it on the stock kernel.
How I got it running......
1. Get temp root by one of the methods in the forum
2. Download the wifi tether apk from the root/FAQ thread.
3. In the settings change profile to desire (cdma)
4. In settings apply check to box to fix HTC routing.
Wifi tether should restart and you should be in business.
sent from the HTC evo 3d
In step 3, did not work for me cdma desire, instead I choose htc evo 4g on the options and it works! finally ! Thanks

I downloaded WiFi tether 3.0 pre 10 experimental build and it has worked so far no problems. Plus its not an ad-hog network...
Let me start by saying I take no credit for discovering this I am simply passing along information I found that I thought may be useful... I actually stumbled across it here... http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/issues/detail?id=1057&q=evo 3d
Not sure if this has been brought up but I figure this will help until these issues are resolved. Basically you have to download both barnacle wireless tether and wifi tether 3.1 beta 2. In order for wifi tether to work you first have to start barnacle tethering, once it starts close it out then start up wifi tethering and voila you should connect. I have tested this with both 3g and 4g and connected and transferred data on both. You only have to open barnacle once unless you reboot. If you reboot or restart your phone, you have to start barnacle again, close it and then start wifi tether. I have no idea why or how this works but it does. Hopefully somebody more skilled than I can figure out what is happening as it doesn't seem to be kernel related as originally thought. Would love to hear back on results and maybe devs ideas as to how and why this works.
I can confirm also I have temp root couldn't get WiFi tether to work and my tab doesn't do ad hoc. It's working fine now thanks

yes i have and it worked for me.....been using this since the temp root, now with s-off.
EDIT: you dont need to install barnacle along with this in order to get it work. make sure u go into the setting and check the routing fix...this should allow you to tether. i am running it now to post this post.

Tried and still no go. I wonder if the temp root has something to do with it. Anybody else who did not temp root get WiFi tether to work without barnacle

I have s-off and perm root. Tried this every way I can think of. Doesn't work. Tried it with the latest 3.1 beta. Tried it with your pre-14 link. Set desire-cdma and routing fix. Just doesn't work.
Are you sure you're not on 4G and that's why it is working for you? I mean, it does connect and it acts like it "wants" to work, but no go. Trying to connect to any website via the tether is just nada.

I'm pretty sure the only way to run it is how I stated in the op. Unless its something that temp root did.

Glad this helped some of u. I'm the guy who discovered the weird way to get wifi tether working by using barnacle. I posted it here a few weeks ago http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15599383#post15599383
Then I posted the issue on google code so that the dev would do something about it.
It's really bugging me since I have to turn off my phone everyday b/c there is no signal at work. Then I have to do the barnacle trick everyday. I cannot get cable/dsl/fios at home so I have to use wifi tether everyday. Sucks ass, but it's better than satellite. I think I'll wait a week till perm-root & roms are mature and flash something with the native hotspot unlocked. If you prem-rooted then u should just flash a rom now.
BTW I only use 3G obviously.. since I don;t live in the city and Clear doesn;t know how to run a business. I've tried wifi tether pre14 and the other versions which worked..i just stick to the latest. If u still can't get it to work try using device profile thunderbolt or evo 4g. I think I've been using evo 4g.

I'm assuming you are temp rooted, and I believe this is why pre 14 is working. I took the ota updates before rooting permanently and none of the WiFi tether work unless I use your trick. So its either a temp root thing or an ota thing.

I am using the EVO 3D and used the HTC unlock, and flashed the joeykrim ROM. I installed WIFI Tether app and tried different beta and stable versions and none of them work. They ask me if my device is rooted.
My device shows unlocked but S-OFF. So not sure what to do to get Tether to work.
Go to settings then to Change Device-Profile and click on HTC EVO 3D. Next scroll down to MSS Clamping and Route Fix and check both boxes. You are good to go now.

Just leave the device on auto and make sure MSS clamping and Routing fix are checked. That is all you need to do.
It says
"Tethering started with errors" and asks to check the 'show log', but it states unable to open log-file.file does not exist!
And when I disconnect tether it asks me if I am rooted.
I tried putting device on Auto and EVO 3D. Checking MSS and routing.
Does it have to do with the HTC unlock instead of S-OFF?

I couldn't get it to work neither, I've try all version and setting, but if you flash sick sense rom, everything works, included sprint hopspot
I'm about 99% sure that sprint blocked tethering somehow in the newest update. They started this **** when they blocked all the tethering apps from being downloaded in the market. I am leaving this network asap. When the Iphone comes along it brings bullcrap with it.
not true, i got it to work. just rooted and installed the rooted stock rom. it must be the custom roms making the tether and 4G not working.
It works good for me. I'm rooted the HTC way with s-on. The only thing I did was check the routing settings n all is good.

As far as I know, Sprint HAS NOT blocked tethering. They have blocked Apps that make tethering WITHOUT ROOT inaccessible in the market.
ROOT tethering methods (both wifi and USB tethered) should all still work when properly configured.

Under settings go to..change device profile and choose generic ics then go to enable mss clapping and routing fix...that's going to make it work with the EVO...
And by the way you will need to try those steps on the wifi tether for root users app from google play

Mine isnt working either. Followed steps above.

The only settings I change are:
1) Profile to Generic ICS
2) Turn on encryption
Leave the clamping and routing options off.

This might not pertain to many of you but I was having the issue where my computer would pick up my phone but wouldn't connect to the internet. I was on Windows 7 using an N adapter. I changed it to an old G adapter and that fixed the problem. I had fixed it by chance since my computer would connect to my wife's EVO Shift with no problems so I assumed the problem was my phone.
dont matter what i do i cant get wifi teather to work??? sucks i have tryed everything man.. isshh wont work!! im going crazy!! help!!lol im ready to smash this f ing this!! lolz

Not sure if you ever came to a resolution on your own. . . uninstall/reinstall from market. I enabled mss clamping, routing fix, and changed profile to "generic ics/jb (wlan0)"

Thanks to luisrod03 for the correct settings in Wifi tether (mueller lemons buxton) I had been fighting with this since the Wednesday before Thanksgiving! I tried flashing, re-flashing, different roms, all the same result.I'ts a miracle I didn't brick this phone- Appeared to be working . Asked for root from SU. No errors like I had seen in the forums, I just happened to land in this forum and it was fixed with a couple of check boxes.
I was also having the same issue....followed the steps and it's working great!

Before Use:

per Nils' instructions.
Even though it took forever for me to figure out (huge noob) I relocked, flashed the 3.14.605.10 RUU, unlocked, rooted, re-installed aman ra, wiped all my data, and then ran the Aroma installer. Everything is working great except for the Tether.
I really did search like crazy in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1508118&highlight=htc+rezound+ics and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1540707 but nothing suggested in those worked. Anyone advice would be greatly appreciated.
Also, running S-On because the whole wire trick scares me haha

I've tried that sadly, with the device and setup both set to auto the computer says it's connected but it can't actually load anything.

Routing Fix
Setup Method: Auto
Works with different SSID / encryption.

Ya, did that. Saw your post in the Nils' Sense 4 thread. Opened super user first and updated the binaries. Tether is asking for root permission and the computer thinks it's connected but the phone just won't recognize that it's connected and there's no data flow.
I flashed Nils' Business ICS 4.0.3 w/ Sense 4 v2.3 to see if that would help, same problem. Wiped and re flashed a couple of times but it didn't change anything.
Maybe try connecting to a different device. It might be something with ur pc
