Anyone Change to Verizon? - HTC EVO 3D

I know on the Evo 4G there are people who have changed to boost, cricket, exc and have a company phone from Verizon (Absolute piece of crap) and there is a place in the mall that is selling a Evo 3D no contract for $250 (kiosk) and I was thinking of picking it up if I can switch the evo to verizon.
Anyone have any insight, I talked to my I.T. Director and he is cool with it and said we are going to be stuck with this pos for the next year since thats our next time that they are going do an upgrade and its going to be another piece of crap since they are buying phones that everyone can use (half our staff cant even email properly)

I'm pretty sure Verizon is cdma.

So is the Sprint Version of the Evo 3D, it looks like i may be out of luck since the LTE requires a sim card

You can't use the sprint cdma 3d it uses different frequencies.

You could but is an ilegal way to do it so nope
Playing MGS on my iPad

and quite probably Verizon won't add the ESN to their system

Sprint phones roam over to Verizon just fine. I do it all the time. In fact, there is an app you can download from market called Roam Control that will force roam on Verizon (excellent voice quality, crappy data speed ~120 kbps).

Since Verizon and Sprint are both CDMA is it possible to get the Evo 3D on Verizon?
If so how would I go about doing this?

Well the obvious answer is no But you can hop on the verizon network momentarily if needed although that takes a little bit of tweaking which needs S-off
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
You can and you can't. It's kind of illegal. Some people would flash certain PRLs, but on their rooted Evo 4G, to get better signal and basically use Verizon coverage, therefor their contract and account terminated. Some people have switched ESN's and MEID numbers on the Evo to work on the verizon, so most likley the evo 3d can do the same as well. Just gotta keep searching.......and good luck.
Or wait till 2012 and thunderbolt 3d comes out lol jk
But yeah you can't have it legally right now
If you don't have an Evo3d well you don't have an Evo3d
I think he is talking about permanently with a Verizon contact. But you can force it to roam with the roam control app in the market. It doesn't require root for HTC devices anymore.

I read somewhere on here that Verizon won't activate a device with an ESN/MEID that didn't originate in their system anymore. If the Evo 3D somehow ended up with an ESN/MEID that came from a Verizon phone I guess they wouldn't know the difference, they'd think that the Evo 3D was that Verizon phone.

Motorola Rep Says Photon Has LTE Chip!

Just got off phone with Motorola and they confirmed the Photon has a LTE chip installed! I called sprint and they said it didn't. Somebodies lying, my bet is sprint.
My guess is that the Motorola rep is confusing that for 4G in general. I highly doubt the Photon has LTE.
Now, I certainly wouldn't be disappointed if it does, but I imagine that would have been in the FCC certification.

I highly doubt this, but my buddy works at the mobile division in Libertyville IL (My town! Woot woot Google! ) and he works on the development of the LED flash for all the phones cameras. Im sure he will have insight about this, ill post back what he says.

i'm too lazy to search youtube, has anyone done a teardown of this phone yet? I mean its not magic, if there is a LTE chip inside you'd see it. Granted I'm not willing to doante my phone to such a process but I mean phones break, you'd think someone who broke their Photon had to have tore it apart by now to see its guts.
I doubt they would have added an expensive piece of hardware just for the heck of it. The fact that it isn't touted as a feature to"future proof" the phone leads me to assume it isn't there.
The build.prop in system has alot of refrences to an LTE radio...but then again it has quite a few refrences to VZW as well....

They probably just took the Atrix, redid the outer shell, modified code to work with Sprint, then threw it on the shelf.

The hole in that thought is the matrix is on ATT(GSM) which is different from VZW in more ways then one.
The VZW references is due to the you can roam in VZW and a possible launch of the phone on VZW.
It seems that this phone has a lot of Q's surronding the radio freq's it uses so we are going to need to find a good tear down and look to that for answers.
Ok so in case people didn't know, LTE uses sim cards for the 4G. But it can't be in the photon, sprint wont have it for some time.
My buddy at Motorola replied to me "wimax". So I guess its not LTE ready and that moto rep is misunderstanding that sprints 4g is different. After all, this is the first moto android phone on sprint

If that's the case why aren't you on Verizon?
Plug the photon in and look in device manager, it has an LTE modem period. There is no argument here, find it for yourself. Sprint will have LTE but not for awhile, as for the Photon working on it, who knows, but I am damn sure that it is capable of it. If you are asking a Sprint Rep any questions about a phone, 97.38782% of them don't know much about them, yes there are a few who actually do their homework on each and every phone they come across but that is few and far between. ( And in case you work at Sprint and you are reading this, don't take it personal, I'm just saying that most reps sell phones, they don't study them and know them inside and out) As for Motorola, who knows, it all depends on who you talk to, but I would believe one of them over a random Sprint rep who 'sells' phones for a living, being that Motorola actually built the thing.
But all you really need to do is plug it in and look for yourself.

Now that is interesting indeed
It just might have a LTE radio. Maybe Sprint's plans are starting to show up in current and future phones? Here is an excerpt:
If Sprint were to tap into Clearwire’s LTE network it wouldn’t gain any additional coverage beyond its current 4G footprint. It would gain additional capacity, but it would come at a price. Since Clearwire’s LTE wouldn’t even cover existing WiMAX markets completely, Sprint will need to deploy dual-mode WiMAX and LTE devices. That’s already a tall order for device makers, but Clearwire is using an unpaired spectrum configuration for LTE, meaning Sprint will need LTE chips not only for Clearwire’s 2.5 GHz frequencies but in a time-division duplexing (TDD) mode that no other operator uses in the U.S.

There may be some logic to this from Moto perspective...
It 4g and it a world phone...it suports cdma and gsm...
But is it also the first "4g" "world phone"? having both wimax and LTE ?(you got the sim like verzion LTE phones need)
So for Moto one hardward build for all world markets...and would also make it one hell of a development phone for google android to test everything on
Would the EVO 3d and Samsung Galaxy 2 people crap if true....
A phone with all these radios cdma, gsm, wimax and LTE would be hacker heaven
Who knows could be source of unlocked 4g issues that just the Photon seem to have ... that bootstrap has an extra radio to set up
===One other thing I recall Sprints Touch pro 2 "world phone" was not certified for GSM by FCC for US so radios were not listed on FCC doc...but it had them
Other thing in all the Photon "tear down" ive seen...ive never seen the chips because of how the lable sits in the battey compartment covers the chips...you would need to destroy the phone to see

As far as I know not the Sprint Version as far as the gsm Evo 3d I don't know. The radio's don't work and I don't think even if they did Verizon would allow it like the little guys do (coughs boost cough) Even so the Boost network is Sprint's that they pay to use. I do know that Verizon PRL works on our phone but it counts as roaming and sprint will give you the boot for using it too much. I only use it when I visit my father as it's the only way I can get a signal and use it SPARINGLY until the wife and I drive home.
No, you can not.

I think technically speaking, the CDMA EVO 3D will operate on Verizon's 3G frequencies. WiMAX will not work through a Verizon account.
In order to get the device to operate mainly on Verizon and be registered to a Verizon account would be another story and process .. not sure Verizon would support or faciliate this process, let alone allow.
Hope that helps!
Thanks for the responses. Looks like I will jus get a new phone lol =)
Redd3VO
No worries, if you're getting a new phone w/ Verizon I'd say sell your Evo3D for about 250-300 on ebay/craigslist and then wait for the Galaxy Nexus.
Or the Rezound.
Or the RAZR.
Some nice phones are comin' out on VZW this coming quarter...
AND they just updated their data tier plans; doubled every plan's data for the same amount of moolah.

[Q] Evo3D might have lte?

I remember hearing when the 3d first came out that the Evo 3d had capability for lye as if sprint was planning on upgrading to lye I was wondering if there was a way you revs could activate the lye that we supposidly have because Idk like todo roam onto Verizon's lte that walkersville MD has...
Im sorry for misspelling lte with lye bk8 kept autocorrecting me...
sorry, but the Evo doesn't have LTE capabilities... there was talk of the chipset supporting it, but the phone does not have the required hardware (antennas, etc.)
Thanks froth the quick reply , is there any way I can add the hardware in because my parents love to take the modem with them places and 4g would be so much better on my ps3 then Verizon 3g
Just to confirm, I asked htc directly and they said there was no lte capability in the EVO 3D.
Installing a radio to support it? No clue but you'd probably have to program the OS and radio software to use it too

...and it sucks that sprint got rid of the premier accounts of upgrading phones once a year. I love my phone but I wish it was compatible with lte
I think we should all petition for them to allow us to get lte enabled phones or upgrade our existing ones to support lte when they launch. We got screwed out of 4G. Verizon was able to upgrade the xoom for lte afterall.

Definately I agree. I've been with sprint for like 13 or more years now. Being a long time customer I should be able to take advantage of LTE when it does come out. Any idea when that will be?
I know this is a fairly new thread, but had anyone found any forum or sprint contact point to make formal request / petition for LTE upgrade?
I would love to get on board. I've been paying 4g data premium since I got the evo 4g, and other than a couple days in Chicago, new York, and Charlotte, it's been a waste.
Sad but it is tempting me to take my 5 phone lines to Verizon.

Im not really concerned with 4g per se. I'm wanting to go ATT but really feel the phone I want is the Nexus 5 based on the rumors. I like my evo 4g because of its camera. Honestly right now it is plenty fast for everything. In running meanbean on it and there doesn't appear to be anything I can't handle just fine.
I hate sprints service so I flashed the Verizon prl and after putting 5gb on it this week I should be getting terminated before too long.
ill need a service to jump on and Verizon's month to month is $70 with 2gb. That should be plenty for me. ATTs month to month sucks and I dont care for their phones right now. My goal is the Nexus 5 anyway. I'd rather just use verizons monthly with my current phone. Just depends how things work out. I also get 22% off Verizon plans so hoping that translates to a good deal.

The problem is getting Verizon's system to recognize a Sprint phone. You can take GSM phones from carrier to carrier because all you have to do is transfer the SIM card, but that doesn't work with CDMA carriers since there's no SIM card. You'd actually have to get Verizon to provision a Sprint phone for their system, and somehow I don't see them doing that.

Even if you could swap Sims it wouldn't help ya as the device itself is not provisioned to work on all of VZ freq.... Namely LTE... Lot more to how devices connect than the SIM cards...

Call verizon customer service tell them you want to open a prepaid account and port the phone and they will help you. See the only real difference between the verizon 4g phones and sprint are the lack of sim card and imei. But you can still program it to work on verizons network. All customer service agents aren't the same by the way. So if one doesn't know how to help you then another one will and you will get your phone on their. Also if you take a look in this same section this really cool guy wrote a guide on flashing a evo 4g lte to verizon prepaid.

That was my point. Sprint and Verizon are both CDMA providers and it's not as simple as just swapping out the SIM like you can do when you move from one GSM provider to another (e.g. AT&T to TMobile).

as long as you can get verizon to accept the ESN number your good. verizon has been known to be more accepting of sprint ESNs than visa versa. Though you will not get anything higher than 3g which will top out around 3-5mbps.
