[Q] Need confirmation before I proceed to root my tab :x - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, I am new to Android and just got my GT 10.1, 3G+Wifi version. I done a few readings online and I really feel that rooting is way better to use the tab compared to non-rooted android devices. I would like to make sure of the steps before I start rooting and overclock it. If I have write or describe something wrong, I will appreciate it if you are able to guide me 
So now my GT’s stock ROM is the original Honeycomb 3.1, without TouchWiz. I would like to root it first of all [Sorry I copy & paste, thanks original author!]
“How To: Root Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 [Easy Way]
Step1: Download the Zip file Here
Step2: From adb, run the following command (without quotes) “adb push allidoiswin.zip /sdcard/allidoiswin.zip”
Step3: Now punch in “adb reboot recovery”
Step4: Now simply flash the Zip file which you put via Adb, that’s it after running zip file your Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 will be fully rooted now get superuser access.”
 [It’s that easy right? Not the older long steps that I have to do with nvflash ADX Mode or such?]
After I have rooted my tab. I guess it is best to backup my stock ROM beforehand?
Step 1: Download and install free ROM Manager app from the Android Market
Step 2: Launch ROM Manger and tap “Backup Current ROM”.
 [Question, where will my backup-ed ROM will be located?]
To overclock my GT 10.1 device
Step 1: Download the 1.4Ghz kernal
Step 2: Using ROM Manger reboot your device into ClockworkMod Recovery
Step 3: Tap “Install zip from /sdcard” and choose the zip file you just recently downloaded
Step 4: Reboot your device
Step 5: Purchase and download the setCPU Android app (only costs about the same as a cup of coffee)
Step 6: Using any free file manager app unzip and install setCPU
 [I believe I will use openup set CPU, make it to 1.4Ghz and change the setting to “Performance”, my tab will run at 1.4Ghz. If I am to unroot and return the product, it will best be de-clock it by sliding the speed back to 1.0 Ghz. Just that easy, am I right?]
Last but not least, ROM, I believe is like an OS for Galaxy tab? I heard Overclock + Starburst ROM gives the tab really a huge boost?
From "http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1197776"
Am I able to backup my apps (Android market + cracked ones) from Stock and re-install all of them back in the Starburst ROM?
As the installation stats that I will need to do a factory reset of my Tab.
I wonder if anything goes wrong, is there anyway to recover? I was/am an IOS user but super newbie to Android.
I appreciate all the help and advices you have.
Best regards, cheers & thanks!

Ok my friend, Im going to refer you here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1171089 its the sticky in the android development section of this forum. I don't have the 3g device but it looks like you don't need to Odin flash clockwork mod recovery in order to flash .zip files (someone with a 3g tab can correct me on this if I'm wrong.) The root method that is outline in this thread is much easier than the way you have described using adb (you need to have the android SDK development platform installed to use the adb interface.) Make sure to visit this thread and follow the directions for the 3g p7500 model. Also ask questions there too that's what it's for.
I'm almost certain Starburst ROM is not available for the 3g tablet, there is a ROM called Broodcomb. All this info is also in the sticky thread I linked. If your going to use pershoots kernel to overclock keep in mind that kernels are experimental and overclcoking 'on our tab is not entirely necessary depending on your needs. Be sure to read through that kernel's thread and its entirety. (i know its a lot of reading but reading is your friend.)
You can back up your apps using Titanium backup an app that requires root. You can also back up your entire tab using the backup restore function in Clockwork Mod recovery.
Hope this helps.

Thanks!
I was reading too but I missed the 3G and 4G version.
Cheers

Good luck mate! Feel free to pm if you have questions. I'm no dev yet but I'd be glad to help in any way possible.

hie again. I tried to send you PM but I think I am unable to do so. Message didnt appear in 'Sent'. I paste what I was going to send to you again right here.
Thanks for offering help.
I am about to root my GT but I would like to re-assure with you
I am running on retail 3G version so I would have to follow the 3g version of rooting.
--------------------------------------------
RETAIL 3G
[GTP7500] >>> New!!!
1. Download this Root.zip file to your tablet and move it to root directory of tablet storage. (you can also download on comp. then transfer to tablet)
2. Reboot tab and go into recovery mode and apply the root.zip you just downloaded.
3. Then reboot
rooted already
For CWM
1. After rooting download and install Rom Manager from market.
2. open Rom Manager app and have it install clockwork Mod to your device, you should see your device listed within Rom manager.
3. Done.
----------------------------------------------
I am sorry but what's CWM?
I believe I can root my tab, download Titanium BackUp to backup all my apps?
I can backup my Stock rom using ROm manager I believe?
Oh and, after reading all over, I believe I can just OC my tab but stays on the same ROM?
Cheers and a million thanks!

CWM is ClockWorkMod Recovery

OK, yes flash the root.zip then install Clockwork Mod Recovery (CWR) via Rom manager app. Then reboot into recovery using the Rom manager app. This will allow you to make a backup of your entire tab manually ( i prefer to so it manualy rather than through rom mangager. Rebboot recovery and use the volume rocker to navigate up and down and the power button to select. (this is explained in detail in the sticky section of development thread) select backup and restore>backup This will make a flashable backup you can restore using the restore function the same way you made a backup. You flash zip files by choosing the option "install .zip from SD card."
Titanium backup is an app used to back up user apps so you can restore them should you ever have to wipe data.
You can overclock by installing a kernel (such as pershoots) that allows for you to scale up the processor. You do this with an app called SETCPU. YOu do not need a custom rom to flash this kernel.
Hope this helps.

[Tutorial]How To Root and Unroot Samsung Galaxy Ace official Gingerbread 2.3 updgrade

If you’ve upgraded your Ace’s firmware to the official gingerbread update you might know that SuperOneClick rooting method doesn’t work anymore. Luckily there is another method involving installing a zip file from recovery which I’m going to explain now. This method is actually better since you don’t have to connect the ace to a computer. You can root and unroot on the fly. So in this tutorial I’ll be showing you how to root AND unroot you Samsung galaxy ace!
Caution: In my experience nothing has ever gone wrong with rooting. There is always that slight chance something can mess up. Use caution and only do this if you want to. I am not responsible if anything happens (but I really don’t think anything will happen if you do everything right) Also rooting voids your warranty but don’t worry, unrooting should give it back like nothing ever happened.!!
Download the two zip files I’ve attached below
How to Root the Galaxy Ace 2.3
1. Copy the Root.zip file (download below) into your sd card. You can even put it in a folder if you want.
2. Turn your phone off
3. Boot your phone into recovery mode. To do that, hold HOME+POWER buttons. When the screen turns on and you see the Samsung logo, let go of POWER but keep holding HOME. After the Galaxy Ace logo shows up and disappears, you should enter recovery mode. You can let go of HOME now.
4. Now in recovery mode, you can scroll up and down using the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons and select using the HOME button.
5. Scroll to the second option “apply update from sdcard” and press HOME to select.
6. Scroll to the Root.zip file and select it (if you put it in a folder, find and open that folder and then select Root.zip
7. After it’s done installing, select “reboot system now” and wait for the phone to reboot
8. To check if your phone is rooted, go to you app drawer and look for an app called superuser with an icon of a pirate android with cross bones. If you see it, your phone is rooted.
Congrats! You’ve officially rooted you galaxy ace!!
Now what if you want to go back to unrooted for some reason , or just for the heck of it?? It’s easy. Very similar to rooting
How to Un-root the Ace 2.3:
1. Download unroot.zip (below) and put in sd card
2. Turn off the phone and boot into recovery (refer to step 3 above)
3. Install the unroot.zip (similar to step 5 and 6 above)
4. Restart phone (incase you’re THAT stupid, refer to step 7 above)
5. Look in the app drawer and if all went well, the superuser icon should no longer be there!!!
Note: I've tested the unroot.zip and it works for me. But just incase it still doesn't work you can use a root explorer and delete some files to unroot:-
-Open up market and download "ES File Explorer" (or if you have any other root explorer you can use that).
-Open ES files explorer, tap menu, go to settings, go to the "Root settings" section and enable "Root Explorer" and "Mount file system" (you have to be rooted to do this)
-go back and tap Favorites in the top left corner and select "/". Now go to system/app/ and find and delete "Superuser.apk". PLEASE BE CAREFUL!!! dont delete anything other than the files I mention.
-go back to system/ and open the "xbin" folder and delete the following files and ONLY THESE FILES!!!:
1. busybox
2. sh
3. sqlite3
4. su
5. su-v1
6. su-v2
7. su-v3
-restart phone

Your ace is now un-rooted! It’s that simple. Hope I’ve helped! I’m not sure this method works for froyo, but there are plenty of tutorials for rooting froyo ace as well.
Note: the root and unroot zip files are not mine. Got them from some nice people on the internet and then renamed them!
I got the root.zip from http://androidforums.com/ace-all-things-root/328648-galaxy-ace-root-gingerbread-2-3-3-a.html ......... on this site the zip is originally named upd_1.zip

Well i wasn't able to find any posts on rooting and unrooting the 2.3 update. most people just show rooting and then i had to google around for unrooting. So i just thought i'd make one. Had nothing better to do this weekend.
Unrooting issue
I've tried the unrooting tutorial by hubix. However, as I tried using root checker ver 3.2 by Joey Krim, there was a conflict. During my first test (advance mode), the output says
"Root Access is not properly configured or was not granted.
Superuser.apk - com. noshufou. android. su - is NOT installed!
The application Superuser is recommended as it provides basic security and is available for free in the Android Market
Standard su binary location:
/system/bin/su: No such file or directory
Standard su binary location:
/system/xbin/su: No such file or directory
Alternate su binary location:
/sbin/su: Permission denied
SU binary not found in the system declared PATH"
Second time around and it displayed the same output. However, starting at the third trial and so on, the output says
"Congratulations! You have root access!
Superuser.apk - com. noshufou. android. su - is NOT installed!
The application Superuser is recommended as it provides basic security and is available for free in the Android Market
Standard su binary location:
/system/bin/su: No such file or directory
Standard su binary location:
/system/xbin/su: No such file or directory
Alternate su binary location:
/sbin/su: Permission denied
Root user id:
Root not properly returning its user id
Root group id:
Root not properly returning its group id"
It was weird though, I've got a feeling that something's wrong, either my unrooting process or the app itself. Any ideas?
new to flashing
hello,
-i recently upgraded my galaxy ace to gingerbread 2.3.5 will this (rooting tutorial) work with this firmware or should i revert it back to 2.3.4 so i could try rooting?
-i found out in samfirmware.com that they only have 2.3.4 updates, so does that mean my current firmware is no good?
Thank you very much. (1st post here).
unroot doesnt work for me
Rooted yay!
Thanks for the tutorial, i managed to root my Samsung Ace, the files with the bar-code was helpful too, not tried un-rooting yet so i cannot confirm this works

[Q] Flashing Roms, Kernels And All Sorts [Ultimate Noob]

Upon searching through various XDA forum threads, many youtube videos and other Android based websites. I finally decided to actually make a thread to help gain a better insight into what I want to do.
So, as I'm posting in this particular forum you can imagine I have a Galaxy Tab 10.1 Wifi Only [GT-P7510] Running Android Version 3.1 and I would assume I'm running the stock kernel.
I've already rooted the tab, using Odin and CWM of which are probably the only things I am a little bit familiar with. Im only really following instructions with next to no knowledge of the Android OS. I essentially want to maximise the use of my tablet but as there's so many different resources with custom roms and kernels. It's hard to figure out whats best and why it's better than another to fully utilise my tablet.
I want to run ICS on my tab, and I've been told "Pershoots" ' is the 'best' kernel around. Though how I do this, I really don't know. So, if you don't mind, here are my questions ;
-In order to put a different Rom & Kernel onto my tablet, Do I need to have them both flashed through Odin at the same time for it to work?
-Does the kernel and rom have to be specifically compatible with eachother or can you essentially mix and match them?
- Will certain kernels work across different Android devices?
- Are the Custom Rom builds specific to 3g versions (Or would they work on the device as a whole regardless of 3g/wifi?)
- Will I need to put it into downloading mode to put them onto the tab, and recovery after through CWM to use them like I did for the rooting process?
Thanks in advance for your time!
Sam, Android Novice.
Flash in recovery.
Download the latest SetCPU from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=505419
Launch it, accept root allowance and select autodetect.
ondemand will be the default governor
To install kernel modules:
Use Winrar (windows) or tar with the z option and unpack lib-2636.4.tar.gz
Push any module you desire to /data/local/modules (this is created by the update.zip)
Then, insmod it (you can do this via adb, in a gscript, or on the device in terminal.
Note:
-If you want to enable usb charging:
adb shell echo 1 > /sys/class/power_supply/battery/force_usb_charging
To disable:
adb shell echo 0 > /sys/class/power_supply/battery/force_usb_charging
Flash in recovery.

@Sam,
I too am new to the SGT, and looking for a clear path to ICS.
I have done a boatload of reading and feel I have a pretty decent understanding of how to do this, I can give you some answers to your questions to the best of my knowledge, but would also greatly appreciate some outside clarification.
A: To put a new ROM on your device:
There are two ways to get zip files on your device. 1. Download a file on your computer and connect the tab with the usb cable and drag/drop it onto the root of the device. or 2. Download the file using the SGT directly from the site, in this case you will want to move the file from the download folder to the root of the sd so you can find the zip easily once in CWM
Download the ROM you would like to install, make sure it is for the same android version you are currently on. (don't use a HC 3.2 ROM if you are on HC 3.1) Back up your apps with Titanium Backup > Boot your device into CWM (this is NOT download mode, you will not be connected to a computer) > Make a nandroid backup of your current ROM setup, just in case something goes wrong, you will be able to go back into CWM and restore your device with this back up > next do all the appropriate wipes per the Dev's instructions. > Go to install zip > Choose zip > Navigate to the zip file you want to intall > Install zip >Reboot > Sign in and set up your device on your new ROM
A: Kernels: Some ROMS will already have a custom kernel built into the ROM. Some will use the STOCK kernel.
You may NOT mix and match kernels at will, make sure the kernel you want to use is compatible with the ROM you are using.
You can then flash the kernel in CWM through the install zip process.
I don't think you can use kernels across different devices, but I am not sure.
A: Odin: As I understand it, You will only use Odin to install different CWM Recoveries or to flash a stock ROM if for some reason you have borked your device and can't get to CWM through the power menu
My Questions for a path to ICS
Q: 1. I am running Galaxy Task 13.1 Rom with Pershoot kernel. In order to Flash ICS I need to be using the latest CWM 5.0.2.7 correct?
2. In order to flash the new recovery, do I need to revert back to the stock kernel? If so, can I use the stock kernel found in the second post of the Task thread and flash in CWM the same as when I did Pershoot's
3. Would I be better off just restoring my stock rooted nandroid, and then ODIN flash the CWM 5.0.2.7 to that and then Flash ICS from there.
4. Once on new recovery, I will not be able to restore any nandroids from previous version and should I then want to go back to Task, I will have to just flash the ROM as a fresh install and then create new nandroids to use from there on?
Thanks

ok guys....flashing ICS can be done on top of anything...don't need root either.
1. Get the ICS and Gapps zip on the tablet
2. Flash CWM (unless you already have it)
3. wipe data
4. flash both
5. done
nothing really too complicated
no version requirements nothing.
hope this helps
as for nandroid things
yeah made a nandroid backup on whatever recovery you are on now..nothing will change after you flash ICS...you will still be able to restore anything.
To install kernel modules:
Use Winrar (windows) or tar with the z option and unpack lib-2636.4.tar.gz
Push any module you desire to /data/local/modules (this is created by the update.zip)
Then, insmod it (you can do this via adb, in a gscript, or on the device in terminal.
Note:
-If you want to enable usb charging:
adb shell echo 1 > /sys/class/power_supply/battery/force_usb_charging
To disable:
adb shell echo 0 > /sys/class/power_supply/battery/force_usb_charging

That stuff went right over my head, I imagine less jargon would be helpful too haha.

Installing PDroid

Anyone know how to install Pdroid? App sounds really cool but I don't understand the instructions at all.
What does it say?
The instructions are at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1357056
"Make a PDroid Patch for your ROM with the PDroid Patcher and put the patch on your SD card." Seems straightforward enough. But *where* on the SD card? And which SD card, internal or external?
Then "Boot your device into your custom (CWM) recovery (Desire HD: vol down + power)." Into my "custom (CWM) recovery" *what,* exactly? Directory? Command? How do I do this special booting? And what is a CWM?

Are you rooted and have CWM Recovery? Its required!
Sent from my Galaxy S2 GT i9100
I am rooted. <strikethrough>I don't know what CWM Recovery is - the instructions don't say anything at all about needing this other program.</strikethrough>
Actually I stand corrected. Instructions do say that "ClockworkMod Recovery 3.0.2.6 or newer" is required but I did not draw a connection between "ClockworkMod Recovery 3.0.2.6 or newer" and booting "device into your custom (CWM) recovery.' I would've expected an instruction more like "Boot your device with ClockworkMod Recovery (CMR). If using a Desire HD handset, do this by pressing VolDown+Power."
...Later...
Well it looks like this isn't for me. To install CMR you first have to install ROM Manger, and its page on Google Play says "You must flash a Clockwork compatible kernel first (see XDA forums)." I think that means that before I do anything I have to overwrite my ROM and lose everything I've got.
The instructions for ROM Manager say, "Launch ROM Manager and tap the first option that says ‘Flash ClockworkMod Recovery’ and confirm the name of your device." (Not allowed to post a link.) My device (Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket ATT ) isn't listed there (possibly because I'm not using ATT but someone else on a month-to-month plan). Bottom line, I would love to use this app but I'm just not comfortable guessing at stuff and potentially bricking my phone.
If I'm making inaccurate assumptions or have gotten lost somewhere please let me know.

Thanks. I guess that means this is a no-go for me.
MODERATOR PLEASE CLOSE THIS THREAD IF YOU WISH - I've re-posted it over at the i727 forum.
first off: this is the thread you are looking for: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1719408
second, PDroid is an awesome little app and it works very well on quite a lot of custom roms. I've tested it with ResurrectionRemix (JB version) and am currently using it on RootBox ICS 1.7 and testing it on RootBox JB 2.2 as well.
If you are running linux, great...very easy to create your PDroid patches then (everything I'm about to post you'll find it in the above link):
./auto_patcher NAME_of_ROM -h
this will give you some options such as what patch (pdroid or supercharger) and the type (AOSP, AOKP, AOKP-JB etc) and last the date. The patcher usually works out the options automatically (although I always specify just in case...). So, let's say you wanna patch ResurrectionRemix JB-AOKP or RootBox JB-AOKP you go:
./auto_patcher NAME_of_ROM pdroid aokp-jb (and optionally you can put the date).
This will create 2 flashable zip files, one is called update.zip, the other restore.zip
Next step is pretty straight forward assuming you are rooted and have CWM Recovery installed:
Put the update.zip and restore.zip either on your external or internal sdcard (doesn't matter provided you remember where you put it...) then go into CWM recovery (either reboot recovery from your rom if it has the option, otherwise turn off your phone and press vol up, home button and power button at the same time, keep 'em pressed till the phone boots). Then choose the "install zip" option and select the "update.zip" file you just created. Install...then reboot. Should you get a boot loop no panic! Go back into recovery and this time choose "restore.zip" and install. Everything should be working again. If there's no boot loop after you've flashed "update.zip" congrats! Go to the android market and get "pdroid". On JB playstore will probably tell you that PDroid is not compatible with your phone...in that case just get the PDroid apk file and install manually.
Hope that helps
Cheers

[Guide]How to Root + CWM Recovery, NOOB Friendly[Updated]

PLEASE HIT THE THANKS BUTTON!!!
Intro:
Even though there a lot of articles on how to root most of them are not detailed and still many of you out there who have still not rooted your phone this guide will guide you.
I've gone through lots of articles on how to install CWM recovery , How to Root Canvas HD but almost all of them are not noob friendly and you just don't understand them. As a new user i myself took days to get acclimatized to rooting.........
This is a noob friendly guide to root and install CWM recovery both on 4.1 and 4.2 versions.Everyone can go through this!
Sources & Thanks.
1) Thanks to XDA i've taken a lot of resources from XDA.
2) Thanks to developer of motochopper.
3) Thanks to developer of mobile uncle tools.
4) Thanks to micromax for a beautiful device.
5) Taken help from google.
First what is rooting?
Rooting is a process allowing users of Smartphone’s, tablets, and other devices running the Android operating system to attain privileged control (known as “root access”) within Android’s subsystem. Basically rooting is performed to overcome the limitation that wireless service providers and hardware manufacture of android phone put on some devices. If your android mobile is rooted that means you are the SUPER USER on your android cell phone and you get ability to customize or replace system applications. This little word rooting provide you power to run specialized apps that require administrator-level permissions and perform another operation which are inaccessible to a normal android.
I think this should be more than enough and you would have already spent your time on this!! Hope so
Now what is CWM recovery?
All of the Android devices consign with a recovery assuage that is a basic partition on the device's internal memory and also can be booted into it. The stock recovery of almost all of the Android devices provide a few basic yet useful options that allow us to factory reset our device, clearly it is cache partitioning, and bring back its operating system using an official ROM in zip format, but that is the only thing you can do with it. This is the reason where a custom recovery becomes handy.
A custom Android recovery initially replaces all the stock recovery with the one that lets you to do all that you can with the stock recovery, plus a overabundance of options that give us a lot more control on the device. With a custom recovery, you can install official and unofficial ROMs as well as other updates also including hacks, themes, kernels.Using zip files, wipe not just user data but every standard partition on our device, ascend the storage card for USB mass storage access without leaving recovery, partition your SD card, wipe dalvik cache and battery status, fix the permissions, perform, manage and restore backups, and so on.
This is where CWM recovery comes in our aid!!
There is also another very popular recovery named TWRP which many developers still recommend but still a major drawback is that many ROM developers still prefer CWM so i say go with CWM!
Guide: How to Root + CWM Recovery, NOOB Friendly.( Method 1)
Please Hit The Thanks Button!
Note: Follow any One of the following Methods to root.
Method 1:
Prerequisites:
1) Motochopper tool:
Link: http://www.mediafire.com/download/t0o4dpvigwyb09l/motochopper+BY+djrbliss+on+droidrzr.com.zip
2) CWM recovery image: (Note two versions are available the first one is a touch based version while the second one is not)
Link: 1)http://d-h.st/OGP
2)http://d-h.st/3xk
3) Mobile uncle tools:
Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/d....toolbox&hl=en
4) Have your CHD charged fully before following this procedure.
5) CHD of course.
6) USB cable.
Rooting procedure :
1) Connect your mobile with PC with the given cable.
2) Install appropriate drivers (i.e either 32 bit or 64 bit)(provided with the phone)
3) Enable USB debugging and connect as MTP(Media storage)
4) Open motochopper click the file run.bat .
5) Hit 1 for normal mode.
6) Now just follow the one screen tips and after the process is finished , your phone will reboot and voila it is rooted!!!
Method 2:
In this method we're going to root the device using Framaroot.
Requirements:
1. Canvas HD of course
2. Framaroot application
Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2130276
Go there and download the latest version of the application.
3. CWM recovery image: (Note two versions are available the first one is a touch based version while the second one is not)
Link: 1)http://d-h.st/OGP
2)http://d-h.st/3xk
4. MobileUncle MTK Tools:
Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobileuncle.toolbox&hl=en
How to root:
1. Install the Framaroot application( If you don't know how to install it then follow this.Go to the location where you've placed the app click it then then click install that's it).
2. Open it. Now Select the option "Install SuperSU" and hit Boromir.
3. Reboot your Device
Voila is is rooted!!!
Install CWM Recovery:
1. Install mobile uncle tools, remember it require root access to work properly.
2. Place the CWM image in the root of your sd card. Now what is Root , root layer is the top most layer. That is just open the SD card and place it there itself do not place it inside a folder or sub folder only then mobile uncle tool can recognize it.
3.Open Mobile uncle tools and select the option Recovery update.
Now you'll see the file you placed in your sd card ,now click it and then click ok. Now it will ask "boot into recovery mode" click yes and now you are in CWM recovery!
Note: If you have connected to internet while doing this you may get loads of other options after clicking recovery update don't worry just click the one you placed in sd card. verify the name twice.
Method 3:
Prerequisites:
To download both go to http://androidsu.com/superuser/ scroll down a bit and you'll see ARM devices (2.0 – 4.1) in that version 3.1.3 two packages Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip and this su-bin-3.1.1-arm-signed.zip.
1) SU Package
2) SU BIN
How to Root:
1. Copy both the files to the root of your SD card. Now what is Root , root layer is the top most layer. That is just open the SD card and place it there itself do not place it inside a folder or sub folder.
2. Now again restart the phone to recovery mode by pressing Power Key + Volume UP + Volume Down Key.
3. You will see an Android icon with warning/error on the screen, press the power button.
4. You will see the recovery mode menus in the screen. Now this is tricky, to select any option from the screen you have to press two touch buttons simultaneously on your phone’s bottom, left one which is for the menu and right one which is for going to the previous screen. You have to keep pressing it for 5-6 seconds.
5. From the recovery screen select “wipe data/factory reset” and then “wipe cache partition”
6. Once it’s done, select “apply update from sd card” option and choose the file “Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip” from the SD card.
7. Repeat the above step and choose the file “su-bin-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip”.
Once you flash both the files select the option “reboot system now” from the recovery screen.
Note: If you have connected to internet while doing this you may get loads of other options after clicking recovery update don't worry just click the one you placed in sd card. verify the name twice
Disclaimer:
I'm not responsible for any damage caused to your phone proceed ahead with caution.
Guide: How to Root + CWM Recovery, NOOB Friendly.( Method 1)
Verification:
Now you'll most probably see an app super user which almost confirms you've successfully rooted
but still if you have doubt download some app like root checker(free in playstore) to confirm whether you've successfully rooted or not.
How to unroot and replace stock recovery:
Requirements:
1) Rooted CHD.
2) Mobile uncle tools:
Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/d....toolbox&hl=en
3) Stock recovery image:
Link: http://dl.xda-developers.com/attach...9fc330101/530787d3/2/0/2/9/0/6/1/recovery.img
Replacing stock recovery:
1. Place the stock recovery image in the root of SD Card and rename it to recovery.img .
2. Now install Mobile uncle tools.
3. Now open MobileUncle and tap on Recovery Update, it will search the file by itself, you just have to select the file and confirm.
4. It will then ask whether you want to boot into recovery, if you want to confirm you can tap on yes otherwise its not required.
You've now successfully replaced stock recovery.
UNROOTING:
1.Open SuperSU and go to settings, scroll down to Full Unroot and tap on it. The process would be finished within 1 or 2 secs now you have a unrooted device.
Yes ready to be taken to customer care!!!!!!
Now your warranty is intact you can go to service center for any help from them.
Please Hit the Thanks Button.

Hey lets see how it goes... thanx for replying....
i have 2 questions for you ,
1) do i need back up my device i mean the stock rom or something? if yes then how ?
2) about the unrooting just in case if there is a goof up and i unroot it will it work properly ? as mostly micromax phones have a lot of problem and i am old user of micromax android phones so every now and then i have to run to the service center for one reason or the other. So warranty is there , i have read some where there are some clock timer issues on phones which enables the service center guys to differentiate the rooted phone ? is it true? kindly guide.
i m still going with the process you listed and will let you know how it goes for me.
Thanks man.....
And
what will happen after i click on recovery update....
Will it make a backup of current rom?
Please reply......

Welcome,
For your first question,
At this stage you will not be able to take the backup of the entire ROM since as you don't have CWM. But in case if you're already rooted then download titanium backup pro and use the backup all feature and in case if you've not rooted then follow this process. Backup all your contacts to your gmail account using the sync option. Then backup messages and call log if you want through some backup app like snap pea. Then download app uninstaller from playstore a free app and backup all the apks ( second or third option don't remember exactly) then backup this file to your PC ( the file name is android it will have the folder data inside it and sometimes another folder obb copy both).
SO by now you have a backup.
Now coming to your second question,
Yes the unrooting will work without any problem You just have to go to the settings and click full unroot and its over! You're worried too much i think no just do full unroot and they wont be able to identify it if you still have doubt then after unrooting you can factory reset your phone and then there is almost no chance the customer care guys find it out.

No after you click on recovery update it will just flash the new recovery and in this case CWM recovery it will not make any backup or so.
But since you're rooted( if i remember properly) then use titanium backup pro to backup whatever you need. But at thi moment you cant backup the entire rom as you've still not flashed CWM!

Your comprehensive guide to rooting the NC5 and fixing it if/when something goes wrong
To start out I found it very time consuming to find the 'right' information on rooting the NC5 or that it wasn't possible. So I went on the mission to see if i get what was out in the wild to work.
Well I figured it out and I hope this helps!
Step One: Charge your phone! In the event we need to use Odin to fix a boot-loop/soft-brick.
Step Two: Check your version number. As the title suggests this method is only for Verizon Galaxy S4 NC5!
(ENABLE USB DEBUGGING AND UNKNOWN SOURCES IN SETTINGS BEFORE PROCEEDING)
Step Three: Time to download the tools we will need to get this done. Place these files on your SD card. This is the only time you will need your computer. CLICK IT> ONE STOP SHOP
Towel Root: Okay, this is version 1 of the app. I know there are newer versions but they don't work and this does so use it. Select and install. Open the app and select 'make it rain', your phone will reboot and base root has been achieved!
Super User: Select and install. Open the app and install the SU binary at the prompt. The app will also ask to disable KNOX, if you do the app might hang. Home button out and try again after a reboot. Eventually it will work though a bit funky at times.
Safe Strap: Select and install. Open the app and select 'install recovery'. After it installs reboot to the recovery by selecting 'reboot to recovery'. When the recovery loads select the backup option and make a backup!
This is our recovery and allows nandroid backups(you should have done this) and flashing of safestrap ROMs. The bootloader is locked on this phone so no flashing of CM11 or any custom kernels. Do some research before you start flashing things!
Well that was easy! Now you have a rooted and safestrapped NC5 S4!
FAQ\INFO
This recovery is BETA and does not support ROM slots. Everything must be done on the STOCK slot. MAKE A BACKUP!
Nandroid backup and restore is working completely with this recovery!
If you remove Samsung Hub auto rotation will break. Attached is the library file that fixes this. Extract libgnustl_shared.so from the attached zip. Copy and paste to System\Lib and change permission to rw-r--r--. I use Root Explorer, though not free is a very good file manager. There are free alternatives on Google Play.
CREDITS DUE!
HASHCODES< Safe Strap!
CHAINFIRE< Super SU!
GEOHOT< Towel Root!
Thank you for your work. But I have a few major points to address with this:
1. There is a newer, stable SAFESTRAP out (3.75), this one also supports ROM slots, and doesn't corrupt the Non-HLOS Partition.
2. Version 3 of TowelRoot is out, and alot more stable/clean than Version 1.
3. SAFESTRAP really should be installed after busybox is installed, which you did not recommend.
The Samsung Hub Auto Rotation bug is a very nice find though! Thank you for that.
Hey thank you! I will update accordingly.
However TowelRootv3 would not root my phone. I tried changing the strings, the app just states the phone isn't supported.
