Hi
I have a quick question: I currently own an Epic 4G which I am planning to sell and buy a Motorola Photon 4G to replace it. Since this phone is a Global Phone, do I need to get a sim card from Sprint in order to use/activate it? Or is the sim card "optional"
Thanks in advance!
The sim card comes with the Photon from sprint at no charge
The sim allows for global roaming and charges will come On your sprint bill
You can get a prepaid sim while traveling internationally as the phone is unlocked globally but not domestically

Thanks turns out that it can be unlocked and used in canada (had to speak to sprint international support for the code)

I've been doing some research and I haven't found any success stories for radio s=off on the Thunderbolt or anyone buying an unlock code. Most companies selling codes are shaky and typically don't end up providing a code.
I've unlocked a Mytouch 4G (for my dad) manually and got a code to unlock a HD2 (for my brother) from T-Mobile. Both phones are activated on AT&T and work but cannot get 3G. I tried swapping sims with the HD2 and Thunderbolt and neither phone would make calls. Apparently our sims wont work on a sim unlocked GSM phone so if the Thunderbolt was sim unlocked, would it work on a GSM network?

well the thunderbolt is not a world phone... 2nd the sim card supplied by verizon is for
using the 4g LTE network only...
case in point you couldnt use any other sim card to use on other carriers...
but then again you might be able to unlock it but you would be giving up
4g LTE over 3g i dont see the logic in that...
I'm really just curious.

It will never work, end of story.
I doubt there's a provider lock on the Thunderbolt. It's sort of non-standard, using CDMA for voice and LTE for data.
ATT/T-Mob are UMTS (GSM), Verizon is CDMA-2000/LTE. A phone from one side not working on the other has nothing to do with SIMs or SIM locking.
Even when ATT gets around to doing their LTE upgrade, a Thunderbolt would be unlikely to work at all on their network - the best hope might be for data only.
Also, to be clear, the Verizon card isn't really a SIM (although even Verizon calls it that), it's a UICC, with both USIM (for LTE) and CSIM (for CDMA) applications. It's unlikely to have a SIM application, since Verizon doesn't support GSM.
I got my photon 4g from a online 3rd party dealer. It is advertized as "unlocked". When turn on the phone , it will eventually enter into a "hand free activation" screen for Sprint . I want to use the phone in Asia and in Canada with GSM / 3G carriers. I am not a sprint customer and have no desire to sign contract with Sprint in North america. What should I do ?
On the packaging , it said that if I want to use it internationally , I need to call Sprint first . Also it said KEEP the included SIM card inside the phone to use a GSM network.
Should I call Sprint about international travel and possibly get a unlock code (for GSM usage) ?
Should I take the included SIM card and put in my other SIM cards oversea ?
Should I root the phone ?
Should I "unloack"/bypass the boot loader ?
If I need help from Sprint to unlock the phone , do you think they are willing to help me if I am not their customer and I don't live in the states ?

Don't bother talking to sprint. Look at this thread and delete the specified apps that force activation through Sprint: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1265816&highlight=bypass+sprint+activation
You will want to put in your local SIM card once activation is bypassed.
photon gsm now unlocked http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1664212
For use in Asia
Photon works out of the box on GSM no need to program or unlock it.
As far as skipping activation is concerned there is a thread in this forum by Farookh.
Enjoy Photon

Hi guys!
do yuo konw if the same thing for Photon Q with carrier CSpire ?
many thanks!
My girlfriend bought a T-mobile HTC radar off craigslist and It wouldn't read a T-mobile sim card. Which I though was weird. So I bought a unlocked code and unlocked it with my AT&T sim card. The phone will work with the AT&T sim card but not with a t-mobile sim card. I've try a contract and pre-paid T-mobile sim and nothing. I went to T-mobile and got a brand new sim card and still nothing. Like I said if I put my AT&T sim in the phone it work fine. Can some one please help me to get this phone to read a t-mobile sim. I though once you unlocked it you could use any carrier that use a sim card.
you'll have to call t-mobile to activate it with the sim card

I don't think so. I regularly bounce between T-Mobile and AT&T with all my unlocked phones. The only limiting factor is the radio and the data bands that it receives. And, of course the Radar was made for T-Mo. Mine has always been great there.
Now, there are two versions of the phone. The US version is simply called the Radar and can use either T-Mobile or AT&T's networks. The international version is model C110E and called either the Radar or the Omega. It will work on AT&T, but it does not have the T-Mobile bands. It is made for data networks in Europe and it additional bands for Asia. The antenna configuration is different in the two phones.
Does your Radar say "T-Mobile" in the top right corner? Is it possible that you have the C110E?
I got a unlocked code and it works on my at&t sim card but not a T-Mobile one. I've try contact and prepaid sim cards. Nothing! I got a new sim card and nothing! It a T-Mobile HTC radar. It should work on T-Mobile but it don't. A Friend of mine said T-Mobile has lock the phone from there end. I got the unlocked code and it works with at&t sim but not T-Mobile. I don't like the windows one. I've unlocked 3 mytouch, 4 SGII and a galaxy note. This has been a pain in the ass from day one. If u think of a idea let me know it won't hurt.

Maybe the IMEI has been blocked by Tmo? Call and find out.
Hi. I have a Bell mobility Canadian S3. I am traveling to USA. I need data for using Google Navigation and internet there. Does anyone know if i can unlock my phone, buy a prepaid SIM card, and use the phone there? Is this phone compatible with t-mobile or at&t SIM cards?
ps--if it won't work, i also have an unlocked motorolla Atrix (1st gen), but the screen is fidgety and doesn't work well. Will prepaid sims work in the atrix?... then i can just use the atrix as a hotspot for the S3. Thanks in advance.
I'll be travelling to India next month. I was originally planning on buying a cheap burner with a prepaid SIM once I reach India, but now I'm wondering if I can use my Droid DNA there with a prepaid SIM. I currently have Verizon, so I want to make sure that whatever I do, I don't accidentally use Verizon's service or else they'll hit me with their big international charges. My phone is also s-off if that makes a difference.
Does anyone have any suggestions on the best way to handle this?

You should be able to put a prepaid sim card in and have the DNA work fine. The only issue MIGHT be mms. If that is a concern, you may want to flash one of the GSM roms for the Verizon DNA/DLX. The GSM roms are set to work better with the mms settings for GSM use.
i am in india using the htc droid dna..just get a prepaid sim and use ur dna.. use airtel prepaid sim.. i have s-off and using newtoroot gsm version of nos m7 rom
