All about SOD - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

I hate it, I hate it I HATE the god damn thing!
I think that information about SOD is way too fragmented on the net, the cause of it is not clear, there is no cut clear solution, most of the ROMs have it (even new ones), work around exist but not effective, Samsung have no idea what we're talking about and I'm very in need to vent out and throw things at their support staff!
So, why don't we make use of technology and put all the related information regarding SOD here? Maybe we can eventually fix it and shove the solution up a Samsung representative a$$ just for the fun of it?

The only thing I know is that I get then only when wifi is turned on and I leave a connected hotspot. If wifi its on and I do not leave the hotspot, I do not get them. I even had one on stock froyo.

I'm using tasker to solve SOD. Not only that, the automation really helps a lot on my battery.

What about build.prop
Sent from my GT-S5830 using XDA App

My observation its leading to this result too, almost 90% of the time the phone goes to SOD after leaving the connected hotspot!
So what do you do to avoid this? Disable wifi before leaving?
Sent from my GT-S5830 using XDA App

Can I ask about the options you use for tasker, it would be nice if you can share them
Sent from my GT-S5830 using XDA App

What about it? you're talking chinese to me now! A link to read maybe?

I'm not sure about this problen, but I seem to NEVER have this problem before. Note that I tried EVERY custom and stock ROMs except Blackhawk and not a single SOD so far.
Sent from my Galaxy Ace in Singapore with the XDA app

I assuming a SOD is when your phone becomes totally unresponsive after a period of time using wifi, BT or just a active data connection and the only way to fix it is to reboot the phone by pulling the battery.
I have been fortunate in that I have yet to experience this and I have have tried most of the roms here.

I solved SOD problem after uninstall of chaifire3D.
I'm using firstUA ROM.

Whose using the new MIUI build as a DD?

How is it working for you? Any bugs and issues that make it a deal breaker right now?
Read the first post of the miui thread and you will find out all you need to know.

I'm using it as my dd. Everything seems OK minus no gps or mms.. But I do have issues sometimes where bluetooth doesn't automatically find my stereo in car it takes a few min to find it.
It's really fast.. Just read the thread there are fixes even tho temporary to the missing calls and text issue and themes.

Would use it except that I can't receive calls when phone sleeps. It is otherwise seriously sweet. Will go back for sure once this is fixed. Great work by andmer.

I have been using it for my DD for a couple days, the OP has all the bugs listed but mine for some reason recieves calls while in sleep and SMS too!... but I also still suffer from all the other listed bugs. I also noted that my vvm wont work..just gets stuck trying to register my device and then says that I have no data connection! Oh well I'm not worried about it, when the devs get it finalized I'm sure it will be fine..they are awesome! Also im using nemsis' kernel and its the first time my phone will run over 1.2ghz...its stable at 1.4ghz! and if it matters...2260 quadrants!
Edit: sorry thought this was in refference to cm7....lol I swear I didn't gloss over the title! Sorry for the clutter

I loved it but I had extremely low in call volume that made it impossible for us to hear eachother while on a call. Never found a fix

I use it as a daily driver ...I get calls/SMS when phone is asleep ...the only issue I'm having is that I'm on the Cricket network and my data refuses to connect ...it shows 3g but as soon as I go to browser it goes away ...I have no clue why... used comrom miuiwiz and stock and data worked perfectly ...any help on this is greatly appreciated

MIUI is using CM7(and has the same problems) and MIUIwiz is still on a tw rom so that is a huge difference. Other than that I don't know why your data would do that I haven't used MIUI but I'm on CM7 and it works for me (on verizon)

In the CM7 thread some one listed an app SoftLocker which makes it so your phone doesn't go into deep sleep, more battery drain but calls are nice to get. It's working for me with CM7.
I have soft locker on my phone and not noticing a bad battery drain. Maybe I am lucky or blind lol

After I flashed a ROM, I was letting my phone cook, and it started clicking. It would randomly, and slightly often, click for about a day. I'm not sure what it was, I'm thinking the CPU throttling.
I think it might be related to the radio. Check for a firmware update. I was reading several threds and clicking and static during call was radio related.

I thought it was related to root but I've had these hot reboots even before rooting so it's not just root. Most likely an app.

Will take a while to hunt down the app but anybody else have 'LinkedIn' app installed? It just hot rebooted while launching that app from a fresh restart - quickest hot reboot I've ever seen.
It might not be that app but then I went to the Play Store page and there are tons of 1 star reviews because the last update failed on people's phones - more interestingly the most recent comment is from a GS2 user who says latest update reboots his phone.
I've uninstalled it and I doubt I can be that lucky that it's that app and I find it so quickly but crossing my fingers.
Mine rebooted after I opened the Navigation app.
Mine is random, many different apps

Mine happened again. I've now uninstalled BetterBatteryStats. I'm going to start uninstalling stuff that uses root to roll that out. I've had these issues on stock but it happened rarely, lately it's been happening very frequently so something is going on.

I've had the same on mine. I rooted mine day 1, so no idea if it would have done it without root. I've defrosted everything in TB and still no luck.

Well I'm tired of the random hot reboots! Some people say it happened to them before rooting, but I don't believe it happened to me until I rooted and installed CWM touch......so I'm going back to stock to start all over again so I can try to narrow down the issue. I'll report back on my progress as it becomes available.

Happening often to me. The search continues. I've now uninstalled adfree. I'm positive this is an app since I had it occur on stock after two weeks of using the phone and installing crap.

I had the same problem on my previous Captivate and am having it now on the GS III; no rhyme or reason to the reboots that I can see.
I still have heat problem but I played w/ different settings to see what it is.... I had att s3 which got really really hot... So returned it for Verizon s3. Verizon is better but learned that the data (lte/s3) makes it really hot and battery drain. Also the screen, of course.
If you're rooted then go get Phone info and disable lte. I tried CDMA auto for Verizon and it got much better... But at lowered download speed. I change it when I speed the speed... Doesn't require reboot so it's easy to change.
U can also under clock using setCPU.
I don't need it to be fast normally except when playing games... So just have it at 384min and 1024max... I find this helps allot w/ heat as well... U can try and find your setting that's acceptable speed and heat.
Just sharing my experience here.... So good luck.

Happens here too with the T-Mobile GS3. I think they rushed their fabrication process to deliver a high volume and fubared a few hardwarewise. I've even had it lockup/freeze once when not even in the OS but just in the recovery menu's. But yeah, the usual is a totally random unpredictable hot reboot throwing out my resident programs, homescreen, ect. Starts with the screen being frozen and not accepting input, then a short vibration, then back to homescreen reloading and all regular apps and widges that are supposed to run at boot load again. It's as if there's a micro static short or something. Anyway, I'm sick of problem solving and looking through logcats. Going back in for warranty. This is a dream phone except for this ultra annoying bug that it seems not many people have.

Happened to me once or twice (that I noticed) in the two weeks before I rooted (stock UCALEM), and a few more times after. It's just TouchPiz being pizzy. Maybe someone can catch the logcat, but there's nothing we can do about it (except install a better ROM )
How would anyone be able to diagnose this BS
"OK. My phone is hot. And it randomly reboots".
"Crap - u r out of luck buddy. Go change ur damn phone".
Provide ur phone model, ROM version, apps installed. Check ur battery stats.
As a solution - flash any custom ROM which removes bloatware.

Help me to understand the problem

Hi,
I have been using padawan v9 from so long and never had any issue. Today, my phone is reeboting often and really hot. Anyone has any idea why? problem started when i was using firefox browser. Thankyou wonderful people
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda app-developers app
Well I find heat comes from under the camera on the back after heavy data usage, so that's normal for me.
Reboots might be from heavy usage from browser causing overwhelming processor usage forcing the phone to reboot. I get it sometimes from my YouTube app.
Anyway, I don't think that there are any real issues in my opinion, just a few day to day problems.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda app-developers app
Seems like working good again. Don' t want to change this rom. Probably the browser might have done it. Thanks

[Q] Does "Double Tap to Top" really drain battery?

Hi guys,
I'm really impressed by motion functions in Samsung, including double tap to top. However, I don't know whether those kinds of function really drain much battery or not?
Many have said that the flagship keeps working in order to identify when you tap to the top of it. Others contradicted it and stated that it just works when needed.
Does anybody explain more to me? :crying:
I use the feature alot but never had any noticable battery drainage so i think you are fine.
Its not a feature that is constantly in use so wont drain alot
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
I also don't see any noticeable change in battery when using it a lot.
So maybe it's not on constantly?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
It means a sensor must be active whenever the screen is on. It will affect battery sure, but as to how negligible that is, who knows?
No never had such issue with my s3
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
As far as I know, this feature only works in Contacts and E-mail.
So I think only activate the sensors when you open these apps otherwise the sensors should maintain inactive
