I Need help, phone almost brick when... - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi I get a ATT Xperia X10a, firmware: 2.1, baseband:2.1.65, kernel: 2.6.29, build: 2.1.A.0.492
I already have experience with HTC HD2 installing a windows 7 custom ROM, but with this I'm a little confused.
I want root and install a custom ROM with the android 2.3.3. But, I think I come to android and X10 too late, now is a lot of information, I read and read, but I can't find an start and finish process, or a step by step process.
I have the FlashTool, say he roots with one click, but, I not sure I have all the requirements to do that, the right firmware, the right baseband, etc.
SO is somebody with the same phone, can give me a hand, on first do this, next this with this , etc.
I will appreciate a lot !!!!!!!!
Thanks

Since you're already on 2.1, go to settings, then application settings, then development and enable debug mode on your phone, run the flash tool and click root, the tool will do every thing for you, when it reboots, choose ask root perms, then allow it on your phone to get superuser access, when that has been granted, the flashtool recovery option should be enabled, click on that and install recovery to your phone, you can then install the pre-rooted gb in the developtment forum and follow instructions to install a custom from from there also.

EWJet
Sinse you are already on 2.1 you should try the EWJet rom,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192326
Just follow the instructions there.

Thanks guys

Welcome mate, .

HI guys, its me, again jajaja!!!!
I already root and install the xRecovery.
I following this tutorial ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192326
And I have the follow questions guys.
The mSD card :
1) I need format in FAT16, FAT 32, format with the phone and delete all files and folder the Phone create at the format, or format with the phone and leave like that...?
2) The ROM, Patches, etc , I need copy to and specific folder, or to the root of the mSD card.?
I thinking to install this ROM version of EWJET, NEW EWJET GB FULL SE Flavor Version X2.3.4ex - Battery Icons Fixed - (FULL VERSION) and say jump to step 4 skipping #2 launcher and #3 browser, I think they are inside the ROM I choose.
3) In the video after install the ROM and Launcher, he remove the battery run the FlashTool and Flash the Kernel + baseband .71, but not on the thread ... I need install this kernel...? and after that he install the Browser.
4) I not understand the Steps
4 - Start Link2SD and reboot your phone
4.1 - Link the desired applications to Link2SD and reboot
4.2 - Go to Link2SD and re-link dalvik-cache files.
What is Link2SD.?....
The next steps are very well explained in the video, so not a problem !!!!!!
Thanks for the advices !!!!!

In order to use link2sd, you'll have to partition your sd card, you don't necessarily need to do it, it's only done to save app space on the phone itself by installing the apps on the sd card, you can skip that for now, here's how to go about install ewjet rom.
Requirements:
1. Rooted 2.3.3 GB ROM
2. Xrecovery installed
3. SD card
Steps:
1. Choose the version of EWJET you would like to install, you said you already chose the SE Flavoured 2.3.4.x, so skip this step.
2. Download the patch all the way at the bottom, step 5 in his thread I think. You'll have a choice of kernel's to choose from, I recommend freekernel patch, it's stable and smooth.
3. Copy the patch and the ewjet main rom file to your phone's sd card root.
4. Make sure your phone is charged, at least 10% is okay, but I don't encourage that low battery level.
5. Reboot insto xrecovery
6. Wipe cache partition, do a full wipe (factory reset) and then go to advanced options and wipe dalvik cache.
7. Press back to the main menu, choose install custom zip.
8. Scroll down using the side buttons to the EWJET main rom zip file and select it.
9. Choose yes and install it.
10. Reboot the phone, give it a couple mins to boot up and settle down.
11. Reboot into xrecovery again.
12. Choose install custom zip once again, choose the patch zip you downloaded and install it, if it ends in an abort, don't worry, it's fine.
13. Wipe dalvike cache and reboot your phone.
14. Voila! You're all done, install your apps etc and go about using it as per normal.
You're all done, if you want to use link2sd, then say so and I'll walk you through that.

Works thanks!!!!

[Q] N00b move from BIONIX to Trigger

Hi,
I'm noob that got Vibrant phone (from EBAY) that already ROOTED & ClockWorldMod Recovery V2.5.1.3 - Voodoo Lagfix (I don't how...)
With :
KERNEL : 2.6.32.9
BASEBAND : T959UVKB1
BUILD : BIONIX-V 1.3.1
SUPERUSER V2.3.6
SU BINARY V2.3.1-EF
VOODOO LAGFIX
In recovery I see :
ClockWorldMod Recovery V2.5.1.3 - Voodoo Lagfix (ALL IN RED)
apply sdcard update.zip
wipe data \ factory reset
wipe cache partition
install zip from sdcard
backup and restore
mounts and storage
advanced
voodoo
+++++Go Back+++++
I don't have any backups so I want to install ROM MANAGER from market, I read HERE that if i want to upgrade I need to go go back to stock (I'm really don't know how this version get to the phone and somehow the ROM MANAGER not there...)
Do I must go back to stock or I can download ROM MANAGER, Install it and make something like "Upgrade" - I don't know what is the voodoo lagfix and do I need to uninstall it if I want to:
1. install ROM MANAGER and preform Backup & Restore (most important how to verify my backup OK )
2. Move to Trigger 3.2
Can some guide me with simple steps about how to start (I know that I'm not starting for 0 ether in the phone and ether in my knowledge)
Thanks.
Download Trigger
Install titanium backup, backup all of your apps
Move to internal, /sdcard
Reboot to red recovery
Make a backup
Wipe
Flash, instal from sd
Reboot
Wait
Reboot
Restore
Reboot
this says it all

This says it all, but since you are a noob
by wipe, he means to wipe everything (data(factory reset), cache, delvik cache(thats on the advanced options)
As for the titanium backup if you dont know how to use it, just youtube it or go over the threads here
Finally when doing the flash, make sure the trigger 3.2 file is on the sd card
And NO you dont have to go back to stock
1. Do all this without using the Rom Manager?!?!?!? - If I want to install it just download & Install, no any pre-requisit ?
2. when you say Wipe - you mean to "wipe data \ factory reset" or "wipe cache partition" ?
3. Flash, instal from sd = "install zip from sdcard" ?
4. Wait = how much time
5. Restore = Restore what?
Can you direct me to step by step guide for this or input some details?
Thanks alot

Hi,
I checked your guide and even see the video and I have Q, about the "Rom Manager", I saw In your video that you Use it...
Someone told me that my current ClockWorldMod Recovery is old and I should upgrade it... (I couldn't find in the net \ this forum how to upgrade my current version...).
Someone told me:
1. download from market
2. install it with ROOT
3. click "Flash Clockwork Recovery" and boot to recovery
4. Re-install Packages - I DON'T HAVE THIS OPTION NOW
and from there like in your guide: backup, make all the Wipe, place rom on sd and choose "install zip from sd card"
1. Is it true and should work?
2. should I follow those steps (in this order)
3. should I make a backup before and after I download and "Flash Clockwork Recovery"
4. If I follow this orders should I see the "Re-install Packages" that I don't see now and should I need to use it ?
Sorry for all the questions but I want to "understand" (as much as can) what I'm doing.
Thanks Again
Earlier I was sending you messages from my phone while waiting for an appointment... let me try again...
You have the red voodoo recovery. You do not need anything else. Ignore Rom Manager and all that, you really do not need it, because your ROM replaced this recovery with the stock one. You are good.
Just download the rom
make backups
go flash the rom
enjoy
If you have a specific question or want a better explanation, just let me know.
responses in red.

1. Do all this without using the Rom Manager?!?!?!? - If I want to install it just download & Install, no any pre-requisit ? No, you have a recovery that allows you to make backups and flash roms already. Because of this, you can use the step by step guide I gave in post 2 and just be merry.
2. when you say Wipe - you mean to "wipe data \ factory reset" or "wipe cache partition" ?
Yes, and dalvik in advanced like another pointed out.
3. Flash, instal from sd = "install zip from sdcard" ?
Yes
4. Wait = how much time
After you flash the rom, let it just sit for about 10 minutes, then reboot, don't mess with the phone.
5. Restore = Restore what?Your apps if you backed them up... restore your launcher, contacts if you dont use google.. whatever you want to restore, just not system apps (green system apps like wifi and bookmarks should be okay though, exception to the rule for 2.2 > 2.2)
Can you direct me to step by step guide for this or input some details?

when you say: "your ROM replaced this recovery with the stock one." do you mean that after install the new rom I need to make ROOT again? (sorry for my noob)
I make all install (without SIM on the phone).
after the reboot I saw the Android and after few scondes he say to inset sim....
Do I was have to install the new rom with the SIM in it?
PLEASE HELP? (for now I don't know what to do so I'll wait the 15 min)...
ANY SUPPORT? - is it OK?
thanks.
1. Install the ROM with a SIM card in...or if you didn't, insert it like it asks you to.
2. ROM Manager IS clockwork recovery. It is that menu you went into to flash the rom (can be green or red depending on your kernel installed). You don't need ROM Manager because whoever had the phone before you already installed ROM Manager at some point and hence, you have the Clockwork Recovery now as you saw.
3. After you install the new ROM, the boot up will take a long time. It is setting up all the system and configuring the operating system. After it finally boots, leave your phone for 10 minutes and just don't touch it. This gives it time to do a lot of configuration stuff it needs to do when it first starts up. After the 10 minutes are up, restart it. It will now start a lot quicker (like normal) and when its up, you can use it anyway you want. Hence, some first things to do would be to restore your contacts, programs (if you backed them up, settings, etc)
3. I really recommend you read a little bit more before you do flashing like this next time because if people here are not nice and don't lead you by the nose (or if you follow a step wrong), you can **** your phone. The procedure is easy. It is fairly foolproof but it is still advised that you have basic knowledge of what you are doing.
There are a lot of sticky threads on the forums that explain what things are. I recommend you have a look.
Thanks It look like everything is OK now (I read about 15 post before done this...)
Now my Phone Setting look like this:
FW : 2.2
Build : FROYO.UVKB5
KERNEL : 2.6.32.9
TRIGGER VERSION : 3.2- FINAL
BTW:
I'm still see "ClockWorldMod Recovery V2.5.1.3 - Voodoo Lagfix (ALL IN RED)"
1. Does my CWR was needed to be updated too - because its not ?
2. Should I update my kernel too ? - Is there any guide fort this?
Thanks.
SomeOne
I just want to be sure that everything is OK, and find out why my CWR didn't upgrade as well...
Thanks.
OMG!!!!!! Just follow the instructions! It's not rocket science; geez. I know of most noobs who wouldn't even ask this many questions even AFTER the guide/tutorial/step-by-step instructions are in front of them. I give you my word that you WILL NOT brick your Vibrant just by trial and error.

I don't understand why you are so set on the CWR upgrading.... and just an FYI, the red recovery (.3) is a higher version than via Rom Manager (.2).
Be happy. Move on to something else now that YOUR PHONE IS FINE

[Q]How to install CELB froyo on stock eris

Hello everyone i have just bought a droid eris to pass my time until septemeber/october. it should be stock android 1.5/1.6. I wanted to know how to go about installing this rom? i read this is one of the most stable and reliable which is what i want. I know the basics of how to flash as per the sticky and youtube videos, but was wondering if there's any guide specific to CELB froyo from stock? Thank you in advance!
You should be able to just use the One Click Root app by Jcase from the Market to root the phone (follow all of the rebooting instructions) and just flash the rom like normal. It's been a little while since I tried CELB, but I don't remember doing anything else.
Flash the ROM and flash the google apps as well, make sure to use the verison of GAPPS listed in his thread and not one of the newer gingerbread ones.
how do you go about installing gapps? put on root of sd card then..? also, do i have to first flash the root-me.zip or can i replace that with the CELB froyo rom?

The Q&A and stickys on top here has very detailed steps, please take time to read & follow it closely - also, if you go to the Wiki on the top & follow it, there's an entire section dedicated to the Eris, everything you'll need and tools/links on what & where to find/download.
Yes, select the correct Gapps - it should have a *mdpi* strings in the filename as you do NOT want to use the *gb* file as your gapps - and yes, it go on the root of the sd card. I find it very helpful & useful to start with a clean & freshly FAT32 formatted SD card, 8 MB microSD will do just fine (and, if in a pinch, go with a 4 MB card).
To do things right, flash the root-me.zip first and make sure the phone rebooted properly, and is running - you should not have to reactivate the device or update the PRL (by doing a *22891)
After you confirmed that the phone's been rooted, proceed with the CELB rom loaded on the SD card - but only after you do a NAND backup, just in case - then, flash gapps - and reboot the phone, be patient as it could take 5 to 10 minutes to boot up the new ROM for the 1st. time - and when you see the Welcome Screen with the Android, you are ready to setup & customize the phone. Do it slow & take your time - AND, make sure your battery is fully charged. Have fun & good luck !

Actually, as long as you have Amon_RA recovery running, there is no reason to flash rootme.zip first. That's intended only for the stock Eris build, to give you the apps and settings that you need to allow apps that require root-level access to run. CELB has all of that built-in.
The CELB thread has a location that shows where to download a zip file that includes the Google apps. So, the flash procedure, in a nutshell, would be:
- copy the CELB and gapps zip files to your SD card
- restart in Recovery
- Backup/Restore menu
- Nandroid backup (just in case...)
- back to the main menu, then to the Wipe menu
- Wipe data/factory reset
- Wipe Dalvik cache
- Back to the main menu, then to the Flash a zip from SD card menu
- choose the CELB zip file from the list
- Back to the Flash a zip from SD card menu
- choose the gapps zip file
- restart the phone
everything worked out, except now, it's not recognizing my 8gb sd card? what is going on??
It recognizes my 1gb micro sd, but not the 8gb microsdhc i originaly used to root it in the first place..help?
all is good! thank you all

[Q] After-root steps for ROM install galaxy s2?

Hi folks, first like to say thank you to everyone who puts this stuff together- mindboggling for me so it is.
ANyway, im not a techie, but im getting there.
I've rooted my S2, and i now have CWM and superuser on the phone. I have read ALOT of threads , and i'm a bit confused about my next steps. I have no sd card.
I want to get one of those ROMS to help the battery and all the other jazz(phone call recording sounds particularly sweet), but im wary of jumping into it... I have android 2.33 on the phone, and it was the kf3 kernal that i flashed on with ODIN to ROOT the phone successfully;
Q1. I was thinking of the lightning ROM for my phone- do i need to check which kernel and android version i have and match them up with a specific version of whichever ROM i go for?
Q2. Do i have to 'wipe' the phone before installing the ROM? ( i dont know what this means)
Q3. with the above in mind, can anyone point me towards a detailed tutorial on putting a ROM on the phone? ( i have looked honestly, im not being lazy- they dont seem to say what to do if youve already rooted the phone)
EDIT Q4- Should i have NOT rooted with KF3 V 4.0 and just installed the litening ROM, which would have rooted the phone aswell? - I'm really confused. Basically i can't figure out if ive made it harder to put a ROM on there, or easier.
EDIT Q5; will this method work ( im still not sure how to identify what rom fits my system)
How to install a ROM using CWM
Installing a ROM using CWM is a lot less hassle then installing via Odin. The ROM developer will specify which method of installing their ROM you can use, but it is usually done by a CWM flashable .zip.
To flash:
1. Boot into CWM as described above
2. Navigate to 'install zip from sd card'
3. Select it, and then navigate to 'install zip from sdcard' again!
4. Select the ROM you downloaded from your sd card
5. Navigate down to yes
6. Let CWM install you new ROM!
Many Thank yous in advance for anyone who can help this cabbage (ie, me).
Cheers

A1 No, lighting Rom includes its own kernal and will update your phnes android version when you install it.
A2 you should to make sure their are no stray bits of data floating around. Go to cwm and put it into recovery mode. clean the cache, the go into into advanced and clean daavik cache.
this is what is mean by wiping the phone. if you want you can also do a factory reset.
A3 the method in in question 5 is the usual way to do it from cwm but make sure that you copy it into the internal sdcard.
A4. rooting makes it easier in as it gives you access to the file structure of the phone. It is always a good idea to root the phone, if you want to customize it.
A5. To use cwm mwthod any rom has to come it a zip file version. Tar file versions are used with odin but in any case always follow the developers instructions to get the best out of the rom.

Hi Cosmic blue,
thak you so much for coming back to me, i really appreciate it.
So if i can just clarify my proposed method then from the above with a few more questions;
1 go to cwm recovery and clean the two caches you mentioned above while in recovery mode. ( i see the menu now in recovery mode- would i be right in saying the ones to select are 'wipe cache partition' and i can see the dalvik one in advanced no problem)
2 I need to get the rom zip file from the developers thread. SO i download that to my laptop- then whats the best way to transfer to the phone internal sd card as you said...Do i Need an external sd card yes? (sorry, i know this sounds dumb )
3 ( please ignore this one if youre busy- no big deal as i can do more research) can you recommend a good ROM thats not majorly complicated, saves the battery, looks cool i suppose and has some good extra fucntions? as i was saying i liked the lite'ning one but ive read some places that its a bit of a battery drain...
Thank you so miuch again, its so appreciated.

1. correct, wipe those 2 to prepare your phone.
2. no, you do not need an external card. Go to the laptop root directory, you will see the internal sdcard of your phone as a drive, create a new folder in the phone sdcard and copy the zip file to it.
then detach cable and go into recovery and flash the zip file.
3. you will need to experiment with different roms. Lite'ing is fine all custom roms are a bit of battery drain because of the extra functions. But the battery life is still better then the stock as they have tweaked the battery to discharge slower for longer battery life.
4. Everyone has different preferences. try different combinations of firmware, kernal and modem till you find one that you will like.

[Q] Resurrection Remix ics v1.4[4.0.4] rom Install Help

Okay i read his entire thread almost at least 100 pages, I searched countless times for a dummies installation guide
My old andriod dell venue broke so, Okay i got mad and threw it lol, anyways i read reviews about the Samsung Galaxy S2 so got it, I decided i want ICS and i choose his as it looks more favorable among the others.
My Model number is GT-I9100

Can some one please take the time to tell me what is the correct steps to take to make my phone capable of installing this Rom
I seen his instructions
Install the Main ROM 1.4 (important: dont install siyah kernel yet )
install aokp gapps
Reboot
and the Faq Link
Reboot into recovery
Wipe Data / Factory Reset
Wipe Cache Partition
Install the Main ROM
Install the Gapps for AOKP
In recovery go to Advanced
Wipe Dalvik Cache
Fix Permissions
Wipe Cache Partition
Reboot
This will be my first time doing this so can someone please dummy this down for me cause the install rom is greek to me, Do i need to put the rom somewhere, is there pre steps i must do before my phone will accept this
Thank you in advance to any one that helps
Hey,
Im assuming that you still have a factory standard phone so you will first need to root it. If you search google there is loads of guides on how to do this.
then you need to download and install CWM recovery (clockworkmod) again another google search
then you can proceed to the rom installation instructions
download the ROM (zip file ... dont unzip) and stick it somewhere on your SD card
turn your phone off then boot in to recovery by holding volume up, menu key and power button then do factory reset etc and then install zip from sd card (the zip being the ROM)
Please press the thanks button on this reply if you found it helpful
Cheers

First step you need to do is root the phone. I used the guide here after following what the guy was doing a few times in the video.
Then BACKUP YOUR EFS FOLDER as soon as you have root. An app called HC-KTool on the android market can do this. Be sure to verify your backup too and copy the efs.img to your PC for safe keeping.
Get titanium backup and batch backup all user apps and system data. Copy the folder on your internal SD onto your PC also.
Boot into CWM and make a backup here too.
Now you are ready to flash a ROM - Resurrection Remix ICS 1.4 here contains links and FAQ.
As it's your first ROM install you should follow the full installation guide in the FAQ. I stayed with the stock kernel as had problem with siyah and theroux.

LG p500 How to install Android Icecream Step By Step

These are the steps I followed yesterdat night to update my Lg optimus p500 to Android 4. I have collected all these from different posts & Sites, So thanks to them who really made this possible. After reading lot of posts you might be confused about the steps & Base band. I m telling you a simple way-
STEP 1- Attach your phone to LG pc suit & update phone software so that by default your phone base band will be updated to 20_ . You can see it from settings > About Phone.
Step - 2 Root Your Phone.
1. First of all, grab root package from the link ( http://depositfiles.com/files/lou8ae8uh )
2. And download needed driver pack , and install on pc then reboot pc (http://depositfiles.com/files/a45wh9f07 )
3. Enable usb debugging mode by going to settings>applications>developer on phone.
4. Extract root.rar to safe place like desktop.
5. Go to ADB folder , if you are on window 7 run cmd7.exe OR if you are using Windows xp then run cmdXP.exe .
6. After starting cmd7 or cmdXP, type following commands in Red Color
adb devices
then
adb shell
(symbol will change to $ or #)
echo 1 > /data/local/lge_adb.conf
7. After doing this, Reboot your phone
8. Now go to root folder on desktop again, and start SuperOneClick.exe
9. Select GingerBreak method and press root button
10. Wait few seconds and its done.
STEP- 3
1. Install Rom Manager from market on phone.
2. In rom manager application Click on install clockworkmod..
3. Boot Your Phone in Recovery Mode (Volume Down + Home + power Key)
4. Go to the main recovery menu and follow the below steps one after another to wipe data, cache and system.
‘Wipe Data/Factory Reset’ –> Yes
Mounts and Storage’ –> Format /system –> Yes.
‘Mounts and Storage’ –> Format /boot–> Yes.
‘Advanced’ –> Wipe Dalvik cache –> Yes
5. Switch off Phone & Remove memory card.
Now You are going to install rom-
6. Put the Rom & Gapp files (You can download from Here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1614420 ) on your SD Card’s main folder (With help of card Reader) for easy navigation since the recovery mode is tough to navigate with hard keys.
7. Put memory card back to phone & Reboot the phone in recovery mode again, After this choose install zip from sdcard option
8. Select the ROM (the same file that you just downloaded, beta_testing.zip) to install – your ROM will begin to install.
9. Once installed press the back button few times to go back to the main screen of Clockwork Recovery.
10. Choose reboot system now
11. Reboot Phone in Recovery mode & again install Gaapp app from sd card similarly & Reboot phone again.
People who wants exter like SD partition
WARNING!
THIS WILL DELETE EVERYTHING!
(SD CARD AND YOUR CURRENT ROM)
I am going to explain how to partition your sdcard for more user app memory..
This will give you about 1GB of storage to store more apps on!
1. Backup everything from your sd card and apps
(this will format your sd card and apps)
2. Boot into clockworkmod
3. Go to advance
4. - Partition SD Card
5. - 1024M (1GB)
(recommended for smaller sd cards)
6. - 0M
After this step the phone will just sit there for a while just leave it alone and it will say done when it's done!
Important!
- Wipe Dalvik Cache
- wipe data/factory reset
- wipe cache partition
Reboot your phone/ or install a custom rom (your choice as described above)
Download Link2SD from the market
Run Link2SD and a thing should pop and click on ext2 then reboot the phone..
First step can be simplified.
I used Unlock Root tool to root my phone 2nd time after i unbrick it.
And it works!

The phone must be in debuging mode.
There are tons of guides already...and u must mention about wiping before flashing the zip! Otherwise this guide is wrong!

Are you sure you followed the steps exactly as you have written?
Coz i think without boot partition, the device would not be able to boot unless you install a new rom(which has boot partition) before switching off or rebooting.

I've tried that already, you can boot into recovery, but not start the OS. Then the Fastboot Mode appears.

Our phone doesn't have official ICS.Only custom made ICS is there. Therefore u need a rooted phone to flash it.Just like flashing custom ROMs.
It wont unroot ur device.
OP: I think u should edit ur post and put a proper guide.Otherwise people will be mislead.

Yep it'll unroot ur device. If ur on a custom rom, u have to flash official firmware (either froyo or GB).
Eitherway it unroots ur device. But now rooting is just a minutes work so better to update the baseband and root again.
P.S. I think u can update the baseband without flashing original firmware, but I am not sure about it.May be u could search for it.
This might help u : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15250036
