You wouldn't know what kind of tools they would use to test to make sure your phone is still valid for warranty, they may as well use an unsigned sin file to test whether you have done stuff on the bootloader.
So my advice is don't do anything yet until you get your phone back from the service centre.

I was talking to my mate actually who knows loads of stuff about SE and the way they work etc and he said the tool they use to check, Emma I think it's called, hasn't been updated since April so they won't be able to pick up anything to do with the BL for now

No, not even with a nandroid backup

Did you use the sim lock checking tool?
You need to get the device unlocked properly for it to work. There are plenty of warnings about this in every bootloader unlock thread.

If I am not mistaken, and correct me if I'm wrong. But the laser said that if you have used any 3rd party unlocking, you will lose your radio signal. You will have to pay to have your sim card unlocked again from the lasers site before it will work again.

[Q] just need an answer guys

Just want to ask guys if it's okay to unlock the bootloader using a custom rom?
Thanks for future answers
Hi,
I'm not sure to understand. You mean that tou want to unlock your bootloader by flashing a custom ROM ?
If so, it's not possible. Depending on your phone, you'll need to unlock your BL manually, via Sony's website or with "test-point method" (there may also be other methods).
If you mean that you want to unlock your phone using a "regular" method, while you're using a custom ROM compatible with locked BL, then I'd answer yes. But you may not be able to access the Sony "hidden" menu to check if it's successful.
Also, your post's title is not very explicit...
Thanks for the reply, but what I mean is I am using custom rom right now with a locked bootloader. And my question is, is it okay to unlock my bootloader even I am not on stock firmware?

Well first you need to know the uses of unlocking a bootloader and also its consequences.
By unlocking your phone's bootloader, you will be able to flash custom kernels to your phone with which you will also get the option of overclocking and underclocking your phone!
BUT
You will lose your warranty and the DRM keys will be lost.
So,if you think that it's great to unlock your bootloader and you don't care about the consequences,go ahead!
Enjoy your phone's true powers then!

Nope not yet. But I just did some searching it seems that there is no way to root a z2 without unlocking the bootloader. And the ta partition cannot be backedup. Which hence I will lose the warranty. Am I.. right?

Yes! To root your phone, first, you need to downgrade to rootable firmware which is jb 4.1.2, (there's so many rooting methods that works in that version) then after rooting you can backup ta partition. Search for the procedures and read carefully and follow the instructions, it's all here in xda forum

Hey mate. Z2 can't be downgraded to 4.1.2 as box open firmware is kitkat ...... Aren't you confusing it with Xperia Z or something like that? It is Z2 forum.... not for other. And 4.4 is still rootable no need to downgrade. It just requires you to unlock bootloader.
Sorry! You're right. I just check out. My mistake.

[Q] Xperia U Bootloader Unlock

Guys...
I have a serious (not really serious, but kind of...) problem.
I got a Xperia U the other day. I've rooted it and flashed CWM 6.0.1.2... I really want to try CM11 on it. But the thing is that the bootloader is locked... and it seems that there's no way to unlock it since it says "Bootloader unlock allowed: NO".
So the thing is:
There's any way to unlock the bootloader? Maybe flashing a previous firmware?
Or can I flash a ROM via CWM without problems?
I've seen the procedure to unlock bootloader on Sony's page... If I do it (even when my phone says that bootloader unlock is denied)... will I break the phone?
Please answer this. I'm new and I can't post on dedicated forums
My firmware is 6.1.1.B.1.54 and I'm using 4.0.4 ICS
Please...
Someone?
:'(

SIM unlock and bootloader unlock are very different things. There's always a risk of soft bricking when installing, but nothing the original firmware, the flash tool, and about 10 minutes of time wouldn't fix.

You didn't read all of the thread then. Sony says you just have to have the phone have the bootloader unlock option say "Yes" in the settings. Nothing to do with the SIM lock or unlock. Plus none of the other Xperia phones that are bootloader unlockable I've seen or worked on require that, so would seem odd just for this one.
