[Q] Android APP request: Access lost/missplaced device from any computer - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there an APP out there where you can have complete control over your phone via the internet that doesn't require: you to have your phone present, wifi..usb..etc., I want pretty much have full control over my phone if end up leaving it somewhere or forget it at home. Something I'd like to see is as long as it is connected to the internet, either by way of 3g/4g/wifi, i can lock my phone, send messages, look up recipients, make it run an app. Literally full control if possible. I tried looking and i have found nothing like this. the only ones that were close, i actually needed the phone on me.
thanks!!

I don't know if it will let you run apps but it does do somethings like toggling, photos and recording.
Why would you want this?

that works from some things. I wonder if i can at least use my phone to send sms or access files from it and contacts...
I have a bad habit of misplacing things, including my phone which I use for everything. I work an hour away from home so I cant just go and grab it. So it would be nice to be able to access it, get a clients info that i have on there or be able to still communicate with it through web access from where ever i am.

does anyone know of any others that may work?

I haven't tried it, but maybe remote phone manager? You might have to use it in conjunction with a program like tasker or AutomateIt if there are things that need to be done on the phone to accept the connection. Just a thought.

what i want is something just like this but in reverse so that i can control the phone from a browser.

[Q] I want to enable Airplane Mode "permanently" - can I?

DISCLAIMER:
1. I just got done perusing 10 pages of hits for "airplane mode" and everyone is trying to do something opposite of what I'm doing. So if there was a post long ago about this, I'm sorry I could not find it.
2. I'm not really that android-savvy. Just good at following instructions.
QUESTION:
How do I enable Airplane Mode "permanently" so that a child cannot disable this mode?
EXPLANATION:
I have several android devices (Droid Xs, specifically) that have clean ESNs and are not currently being used on any carrier. I also have children (5,3,1).
I've SBF'd, rooted, and removed all unnecessary APKs, leaving only a few educational apps and games for the children to use. And, yes, I enable Airplane Mode. They love having their own little "mini" tablets and being able to be like the grown-ups.
Unfortunately, the oldest has a knack for pushing all sorts of buttons and inadvertently turning the phone's radio back on. Now, I'm a bit worried (should I be?) that an inadvertent phone call or use of the carrier's data is going to cost me something.
Yes, I know that I have not associated the ESN with any carrier; however, as I'm sure most of you know, when you dial a number with a non-subscribed number, it still asks you if you want to make the call and charge it to a credit card - at least, this is what the phone did the last time this happened.
So, bottom line, I want to disable my child's access to any carrier's cellular and data networks. And I want to be the only one that could possible re-enable that access.
If there was some way to enable Airplane Mode "permanently" and remove access to all toggles, settings that could disable Airplane Mode, then this would ease my mind. Obviously, I would want this condition to exist only until I either reflashed the phone or had to do something very convoluted (perhaps editing some setting manually via command line or ADB?).
If there are other options, please let me know. I just need a solution to minimize the chance that my 5-year-old could inadvertantly access the carrier's networks.
Thanks in advance.
and they still should/will call 911 regardless of plan

I believe there is a guide out to remove items from the settings menu. It will take a bit of editting but its detailed! Then you can use any widget to reenable it. Or if you dont what that chance aswell pick a.launcher where you can disable widgets.

You can probably prevent the modem from loading or something, but maybe I misread your post : why not remove the sim card altogether ?
Freeze dailer.apk and some system app about dailing to network.

The apps that you can't remove, you can password lock. Slap a password on settings and the dialer and any other app you couldn't remove but don't want the kids in and don't give them the password. There are multiple apps available to do this, and I believe I saw one or two for free on GetJar. GetJar also has a lot of free games as part of their promotion, which may be good for your kids. It's a legit app store, no pirating or anything.
I believe that there's also a script to disable the cell radio. I don't know much more about it, but it may be something to look in to.

Thanks for all the responses:
@ltdanno360 - they will not be using the devices as phones. And essentially, my children have an adult with them 24/7. The adults just do not want to have to look over the child's shoulder 24/7 to see what app the child is running.
@tarends - ok, it'd be helpful to know where this guide exists; however, now I have something to search for.
@Bubble-be - it would be nice to disable the modem; unfortunately, Verizon Droid X do not have SIM cards... am I wrong?
@melvinchng - ok, I'll look into de-bloating those APKs too. I do recall reading something about that.
@plainjane - I'll look into those password apps and scripts.
Anyhow, I do have some direction now and will follow-up (eventually)...
Thanks again, everyone!
Get a real carrier that uses sim cards.

That script works great, I have used it for a while, but ever since android moved to the "fused location provider" that script/mod also disables the gps which I still want to function because I do sometimes take my son with me to play Ingress via wifi tethering to my device, and with that mod, Ingress can no longer get an accurate location. neither can google maps or earth.

Thanks for the reply, even though it's a few years later. I actually took a look at the script and it looks like it's perfect! However, since my original post, I've found an app that does everything I want it to do and then some:
Kids Place by kiddoware.
(Sorry, I'm prevented from posting links until my 10th post... I'll update the links later. For now, just Google it.)
It let's me selectively turn off the radio for apps. I can configure which apps they have access to and for how long. I can blacklist/whitelist websites. The feature list is impressive and practical. And it works on all three of my very old Droid X.

eris as mp3 player

I am looking to turn my eris into a pure mp3 player for my daughter. she uses it now for that reason, but it doesn't need the dialer, phone book or anything else like that on it. to me its just wasted space. i am open to suggestions. is there a rom out there that i can use that will do this? i have searched and found nothing.
I'm not 100% sure you can remove phone and dialer stuff without getting force closes on that process. I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure those can't be removed.

this might be what you're looking for...?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1216571
you don't need to remove the dialer, contacts, phone .apk's, but with most launchers giving the option to hide certain programs, you could hide them and those apps would only be accessible when going into Titanium Backup or Manage Apps within the settings. at least that's what i did, just in case i need to activate the old eris in an emergency and need the phone functionality, since all phones can make 911 emergency calls even after deactivation.
EDIT: just happened to be browsing that thread, and saw a few posts from you, so maybe this is old news to you! lol, anyway, hope this helps if not, cheers!
Ya know removing the dialer and stuff wouldn't help you free space anyway because that is stored on the system and your mp3s are on the SD card.

That works perfectly, thank you very much. and you guys are all correct on the removal of the phone book and dialer. and everything is already on the sd card, i was just trying to clean / speed things up a bit. i appreciate the response from everyone.
I've been wanting the same thing. But I've decided to make it a home phone that is relatively always plugged in and use sipdroid to set it for inbound and outbound calls. I occasionally use it as an example mp3 player. I may try breaking the ROM apart, but honestly just use a startup disabling app like systemtuner productos or autostarts.. That can literally disable everything from turning on at boot. And other trigger points. Freezing sometimes breaks the ROM depending on what it is.
Sent from my android touchpad.
I've been asking if workshed wants to make one last ROM for the Eris which encorporates that script into it as well as removing every system app not necessary to making it a wifi enabled music player, but he seems to be busy with his other ROM development. I think I'll be making a thread about it, that way if a dev is interested in making it, they can take it from there. Sort of a dev-shopping thread. I've been meaning to for a little while.

App that tracks how your phone is used

Is there an Android app that monitors your cell phone and how it is used? I am looking for a program that will log when my phone is unlocked, what apps are used, what messages are read, what pics are sorted through, etc.
Sometimes throughout the day I have to leave my phone around the house or at my desk and if people are trying to access it, I want to know about it and what they do on it. I tried googling it and I found one or two apps but they did not do what I wanted them to do. Thank you!

have you tried the app from the market called "vault"?
pretty sure in the full version it log unlock attempts and even takes pictures with your front facing camera of anyone trying to unlock your phone
Fingerprint lock and it's done - no unauthorized access possible. One reason why I'm sticking to GB.

How to remove "Internet connection requirement" from Android apps?

Hi, I have an app which looks like the developer has removed their servers so it always fails the "internet connection" check.
Its IONROAD. A AR driving app.
I paid for the PRO version so its all good. I use an older version not the latest as I hate the latest version.
99% of the app is using the GPS or the camera. It does check the internet for the weather and a few little things.
I've tried it at home while connected to wireless, in the car while connected to Mobile Data, I've uninstalled, reinstalled and updated and all versions fail the internet checks. To me it looks like they closed their servers so the app refuses to work without the internet so it will never work again.
What I want to do is remove that internet check so it will keep working without the need for their servers. If it never connects to the internet it doesn't bother me. I dont care for the current weather in a AR driving app, I care for how close the car in front of me is or if i'm drifting out of the lane I'm in. Absolutely nothing to do with the internet so how do I remove that check?
I have the APK, trying to get it into the Android SDK and not sure how? Even if I do get it there what do I remove?
All I want is that internet check removed. As I said I paid for the app so the licence check always passes as I paid for it.
The dev has abandoned the app, they refuse to reply or update. As they closed their servers I'm guessing they totally abandoned the app.
Any help what to remove and how to remove it? Is it an easy unzip, edit a file then zip and reinstall? Or is it a complete import into SDK, rebuild, test, etc and make a whole new app?
I'm not sure what or how to edit it.
Thanks

It is not a simple matter as it would require ripping the app apart and searching through smali code for the server stuff to be removed. As that is what it is doing. It uses their servers to send the weather and a few other things. Now that their servers are off you can bet that it wont be working for long as it will also use other info for things connected to the gps.

The app refuses to work completely. As soon as it loads up it says there is no internet and closes. Thats why I want to remove the need for their servers and internet.
I was hoping there might be some sort of offline mode built in I could enable or remove the "no internet connection" error so it never fails.
Go have a look at the app and you will see you cant do anything as it fails the internet check when the app loads. As they have closed the servers then they have abandoned the app so we can do what we want with it as they obviously dont care about it anymore.
The problem I have is its the best AR driving app there is for android and as they abandoned it there is nothing to replace it with as all the others are crap.
Hi, similar problem to the GoPro app where internet connection is required. I would also really like to remove the internet checking and although the app is free are we getting in to the areas of cracking?
Please update this if you get somewhere.

Just because they abandon it doesn't meant that they might not throw a fit at having it edited. I'll take a look at the decompiled apk. I have a feeling that everything it does will be tied to the servers so even if we did stop it from checking the servers the stuff you want might still not work.

Great thanks.
When the app worked it was mainly GPS and camera stuff, It would get the weather from the server and it does keep a log at the server so it will send a result at the end but while your driving I doubt it does anything with the server as I've been to some places without phone reception and it still worked fine.
Maybe there is only a check when it loads up that we need to remove?

How do you decrypt apps?
What should I edit and look for when its decrypted? (I'm guessing a link to the website or something like that?)
How do I encrypted it again and pack it back into a working APK?

There are tons of tutorials on how to decompile the app. You will need a pc. As for what to look for. That is hit or miss really. As it is in smali and not Java. Also there could be safe guards that if the code is removed then the app won't work. Also some apps can't be decompiler at all as they self destruct if they are.

Anyone having a go at seeing if they can remove the connection to internet requirement?
I want to keep using v1.6.3 but I did find v1.5.1 works with only a random internet check. For my last 10 min drive it checked 3 times but I did do a 15 min drive and it never checked the whole time.
As their servers are down it will always fail if it checks.
If you know where to look you will find all different versions. I wont post where but they are available. 1.6.3 to me is the best, its the most stable, has the best features but its got the internet checks which need to be removed before you can use it as it checks at the start and closes as it cant connect to their servers.

Flow Chart APK Programming

Hello,
I have been trying to write an app for some time now simply to Turn my Mobile Data off every night at 11:59pm. Thats it, no switching things back on, switching from data to wifi blah blah blah. Just one thing, Every Night, 11:59 Data Off, because i am too stupid to remember to switch off mobile data and it costs me a fortune.
Regardless, There was this app, that let you write an apk with a drag and drop system that looked exactly like a flow chart diagram.
It looked really easy for a programming dummy such as me, and i started writing a program on it, but i needed a rooted device to use the data on off switch.
Ok, so i managed to get that done now, but for the life of me I cant find that app anymore.
surely someone here knows what it is called. I tried tasker, but profiles and projects and what not, bah. Lost already. Why cant they just make all programming in GWBasic, I could program anything in that. lol.
Cheers
