[Q] No Android Market on tablet - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Please excuse my ignorance. I have never owned an Android device but I am considering buying a cheap 7 inch tablet PC - there are a lot on ebay at the moment. The Processors are VIA 8650 (800MHZ) with Google Android 2.2. (Unfortunately, as a new boy, I am not allowed to include a url in this question.)
From what I can tell, it does not have Android Market installed. I have read threads on the internet where people have said that it is illegal to install Android Market because the manufacturers of the tablets are supposed to pay a licence for it. Is that true?
The main thing that I am concerned about is that I would like to install the Sony eReader app on it. It seems that it is only available on the Android Market. To be honest, if I can install that app then I am ready to make a purchase. Can anyone explain to me what is going on and whether I will be able to install the Sony app.
Thank you

I'm not sure what Tablet your getting but my first tablet was a Coby Kyros 7in it did not have Google's market place on it but through XDA i was able to find out how to get it on there and it works like it was suppose to be there. You will probably be able to get it installed on there. Good luck

Who cares what you install. You own the tablet. It's for personal use.
Via My HTC Evo 3D On The Now Network From Sprint.

Just like in Miui or CM, no license just means Google has asked that their apps not be included initially, but the end user can install them if they care to.
Sent from my rough sketch of a Vibrant on a brick.

It's easy.. don't buy a dirt cheap tablet. Otherwise you'll be disappointed with the ROM, having to kludge in the Market, probably poor hardware specs, likely low reliability of the tablet, etc.

Downloaded the gmail app but it just opens then closes.
If installing a new rom is the case, i'm ok with it. It's gift, I can't give up on it.

[Q] Cisco Cius table root help please

I Just recieved my Cisco Cius Tablet, Comes with this info in the about section
Model number: Cius
Android Version: 2.2.2
Kernel version: 2.6.31.6-mrst
[email protected]#1
Build number: FRG83G.9.2.1SR1.19SEC
I would really like to root it, I haven't found anything on how to go about it and there is no section here. I have Adb installed and connecting to the device but I'm getting permission denied on just about everything. Is there a way to get root on this, Has anyone started developing on the platform? I would be happy to put in some work to get it going, at least rooted if not make a rom, but I have no idea how to get root on it.
I talked to one of the guys at cisco support about an unrelated issue but during the conversation I found out that it has an intel processor rather then an arm processor. I figure that that has alot to do with why I have been unable to get any of the android 2.2.2 root kits to work with the rageagainstthecagearm5.bin files that everyone is using on phones. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
If other people are interested maybe even get a development section up for the device.
Thanks

Moving to Q&A
now that cisco has abandon the cius all together i wonder if we can get it rooted...
Cius will no longer be available to be sold after march 22nd this year but HW support won't end til march 22nd 2016...
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/col...90/ps11156/end_of_life_notice_c51-717226.html
looking at a forum thread at cisco.com they'll take the stance of "security" and the fact it's still being "supported", whatever that really means, when asked, kernel source or rooting... too bad wonder if anyone can bribe a cisco dev to give us the details on how to root...yeah right.
https://developer.cisco.com/web/ciu...sage_boards/message/6452457?p_p_auth=40l4IazY
For the time being, considering how much a single one of these tablet costs, doubt many devs have one, or access to one.
My company has about 3-4 of these (with the HD media, aka phone, docks), we got them for free since we made a major purchase to upgrade our old nortel phone system to them, so i'm glad we didn't have to plunk down any cash for them afterall.
I have 1 of them and am playing with it but I'm not a dev so I wouldn't even know where to begin on rooting it.....
hi mate,
any luck with rooting? 2.2.2 can't do anything much for now....
i've got a unit too... don't know anyone currently working on this product inside cisco sys... they moved on to another android desk phone (non tablet).

Well I've got a tablet 2-3 weeks ago, also my first android OS so maybe I've not enough experience with android but better you contact the manufacturer of you tablet at first and ask him about an update or any other compatible OS.
Also search for your tablet name in combination with other OS. Can't help you further, cause yesterday I did my first android upgrade ever (Gingerbread to ICS) and I'm a bit disappointed about the game support (it's like there isn't anything about this, 20% only works till now hope they'll fix them)
By the way I've got the ICS update from my manufacturer (51Cube) so better to ask your manufacturer before you install something weird specialized firmware.
oohh.. i find its model name.. it is NetPad A91.. but i still cant find it firmware on internet.. help
Same problem
i have same specification n same question with you but i still cant find firmware update,
compare it with this one (I've got it, it came with 2.2 originally - also got it as Noname)
http://www.maixin-china.com/view.asp?ProID=833
Updates to 2.3.4 here:
http://www.maipad.net/update-softwares/mx19s.html
I AM NOT TELLING YOU TO DO IT, JUST CHECK IT OUT, COMPARE THE SPECS. MAYBE IT IS THE SAME!
not possible
i think this is not not possible for a china tablet. may your tablet got dead
Sorry for digging up an old thread but I've got a similar product but the touch screen stopped working. I did flash quite a few roms I've found under the name MID cortex a9 dual core
but every single one..my touch screen is dead(no hardware issue, I've made sure of that). Also I did gave away(yes by my stupidity) the mini usb to usb adaptor and I cannot put any mouse or usb stick to work(I've purchase at least 4-5 different mini usb to usb either OTG or simple version but non of them worked).
This was my first android device and worked very well until one day suddendly stopped working(I've got this quite a few years but now I though I could just give it another go.. maybe someone solve the issue or try another firmware or something)
P.S. Original rom had 2.2 android but I've found some 2.3 which seem to work(with issues) but I didn't manage to get my touch screen work again, everything else seem to work just fine
P.S.2 The tablet is also known as Renesas or RENE3 due to NEC chipset

Android 2.3 Tablet Help Needed! (Unbranded)

Hello all,
As part of a small experiment, I purchased a generic Android Tablet.
This tablet arrived and looks nice and it's build quality is not bad either. However, I found a small problem or fault. When the device is connected to AC power, the touch screen becomes completely unusable and spastic! I swipe or press on one section, it will do something completely different. When running on battery, it works perfectly!
I have read that another device with a capacitive touch screen (Nook) has a similar issue.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing this? Would it be something that I could fix by opening the device myself?
Also, could I install another version of Android on to a device like this? Or would this cause a problem due to the device's hardware?
I am not sending this back to them as Australia has strange regulations on sending anything with internal Lithium batteries by regular post. This only leaves a courier which will cost 60% - 70% of the devices worth and I have to fork out for shipping back.
This leaves me with three options:
1: Attempt to fix it myself
2: Install another version of Android on it
3: Use it as a large stone to skip across my local river!

I have heard of this problem and see it. I dont think there is a fix for it...... but i did have it happen to me on a phone rom and installing a rom with wipe fixed it.
Please hit the thank you button if i helped!
As this Tablet is unbranded, would installing another ROM cause it to cease working? Due to the hardware and button configuration it uses.
Dont do it! Installing a rom for another device, only bad things will happen....
Please hit the thank you button if i helped!
Is there a ROM which could work on a non-branded tablet? Maybe something with could be classed as universal?
They have already installed their own custom ROM on the device, which is not very good in my opinion either.
Otherwise, I guess there is nothing else that can be done!
Maybe I could research how to create a custom ROM specifically for this device?

[Q] Mach Speed Eclipse 4.3 MID Gen 2 Internet Tablet Google Play
Hello thebinksterTX:
I too have one of these and the device is not registered with Google. The app will never launch. If you have another Android device that does have Google Play working, you can use the File manager to backup your applications to .apk. Take these and put on a Micro SD card and mount on the Eclipse 4.3. Being ICS 4.0.3, the device runs most apps that I run on the other Android.. cj

Who else makes this, what rom could I use, could I make a CM build from their link

UPDATE - CPUz app said it was a dual core ARM CORTEX-A9 1.5 GHz, revision r3p0
Galaxy tab 3 has the same processor
Someone said asus made them, one guy said he found a rom for a i-mobile phone that was also rebranded in germany.
Hello all,
I was in thailand and my phone died so I got a cheap $45 tablet to use whatsapp to talk to family and friends. I read asus makes the devices - I'm assuming that someone made this tablet for the company that sold it and that it's a little better than a cheap Chinese tablet quality bc it has had no issues and seems pretty good and was offered by a respected phone company over there. I wanted to upgrade to a newer Rom >4.2, now that I am back in the states.
1.) I had an adnroid stick PC and it seemed like the sticks where all the same chipset and then had roms you could load on them regardless of their brand. Are there universal roms I could look into.
2.) I'm not sure how hard it would be to make a CM rom for this device , but I did see that they have a link to create a build.
I'm going to try one-click, Kingo root, king root, etc to see if I can unlock it so I can turn off the telephony.apk and phone.apk since this one did not have a sim card and was wifi only. The manuf didn't delete those apps so they keep draining the battery looking for service.
Your help is appreciated and thanks in advance!
