[Q] Battery drain, updating to 2.3.4? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

OK, first off. I read about the 2.3.3 bug in Android. I got the phone 2 days ago and I noticed that it uses quite a lot of battery when sleeping(lost 20% this night, 10h).
Battery use shows Android OS that used ~40%, next is Fancy Widgets(my fault, I know). Mobile data was off, wifi on. Every sync thing is on. It's not rooted or anything like that. From what I understand, using the 2.3.4 firmware should fix this issue. I'm wondering if I just have to use ODIN and flash just the PDA part. Since it's official it shouldn't void the warranty right? And it also shouldn't wipe the device. And please tell me which I have to use, there just so many firmwares here.
Here's my about screen:

P.S. I know this has probably been posted before, but at least point me to someone else's question that has been answered clearly. Answers like "search before" won't help at all. Thanks.

You have to follow the instructions with the relevant stock rom and that is usually a full flash via Odin .
Since it's official
Its not official its leaked but it is stock Samsung and Samsung honour the warranty it
And please tell me which I have to use, there just so many firmwares here.
Use the firmware you want KH3 is the latest release .

uhmm, ok? I see that all of the last firmwares have 2.3.4(frankenstein). Does it matter which one I choose? And will it wipe the device? It doesn't say anything about wiping so I guess it won't.

You pick a firmware to suit your region .
One says it will wipe your device but not sure if that applies to all Frankenstein .

I saw this instruction from Trixxta
You need the Cooper_v1.0.ops and then enable one package. Afterwards select the zip in one package.
You can download everything here.
Note that you have to extract the first zip folder until there's only one zip left which is called S5830XWKPN_S5830XWKP6_S5830OXXKP7_HOME

Can I do it on my phone? Thanks!
When ever I try to flash from GB to GB - i get a bootloop. I suggest you go back to froyo and then to KPN.
I had KPH installed - went back to froyo - upgraded to KPN then installed CW4.0.0.9 and flashed FlashX2 then X2.2.
The phone is behaving beautifully and I dont get any of the reported problems with SOD.
Good luck with your endeavours.
@Baracs
May you tell me what froyo firmware you used (or a link perhaps will be of much help). I am afraid to brick this phone. So that I can follow the same path as you did. I hope you would tell me.
Thanks

You have to be registered to enter it - but thats easy.
Then navigate to the asia section and compare the codes of your phone against the codes of the files there.
This seems to be the main repository of files.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for the tip. I bricked my phone 3 times. And now I am running Fla.sh x2.3
I have had 2 motorola and was waiting to upgrade to atrix in 4 months and decided to buy a galaxy ace. Went to buy it PAYG on 3 but the shop did not have any in stock.
They sold me a unlocked phone for £175.00 and Im loving it.
Motorola when bricked are hard to get back - samsungs are dead easy(no pun intended). I also have bricked it 3 times - I had it rooted within 30 minutes of buying it and KPH within the hour.
Glad to be of help.
here is a Quadrant Score benchmark.

Same problem with bootloop, but flashing a second time always fixed it .
Any SOD experience on Fla.sh x2.3? If yes, how to revert back to 2.2? Thanks!
just reflash the main file and the 2.2 update using CWM recovery.
I did not have SOD with 2.3 just lost the APN settings - but 2.2 is working a dream for me and my quadrant score is 1501 so very happy.

[Q] Root a possible rooted phone?

Hi all!
I am exceptionally new here, especially with Android. I've been a long time Blackberry user and the difference between both OS are really different. Felt like a grandma using this phone.
But anyway, I've done a lot of research and reading on this forum about upgrading firmware, rooting and etc. but still have questions that need to be clarified.
I have purchased a GS2 from a store that gets their phones from overseas. Thus my phone is not from a carrier and is from a different country.
I tried upgrading my firmware using Kies but it's not allowing me:
"This version of the device cannot be updated"
I know for sure there's new firmwares to be updated as I have owned another GS2 before this one and it was fine at updating through Kies. I had to return it for a burnt image (that can be for another thread).
Here's my phone's info:
PDA: I9100ZSKF1
PHONE: I9100XXKE4
CSC: I9100OZSKE7
kernel: 2.6.35.7-i9100ZSKF1-CL225635 [email protected] #6
Not sure if this is related or not but when I first turned on the phone, everything was in Spanish and had no choice in the Language option to change to Chinese (just in case but I use English normally). So I asked the boss of the store how can I get Chinese on this thing? So he just took the phone and did his magic. I was waiting for about half an hour, he gave it back to me and everything was in Chinese. Changed it back to English, went home and played around with it. Realized I have a Super User app in my app drawer. I was suspecting that the boss rooted my phone just to get the Chinese language on. Because for sure it would not come stock.
So my big question is, if this phone is/was indeed rooted, how do I check? If I root not knowing that this is rooted already, would there be any problems that may arise?
Kernel wise, since this phone was originally in Spanish, it wouldn't make sense to have a China/Hong Kong kernel. Does it? I'm so new at this that I don't know if kernel's country make any difference. Oh yeah, I don't even have a freaking warranty card for this phone, I guess I wouldn't even have Samsung's warranty.
Thanks in advance. And sorry for the long post...

You root by flashing a cf-root kernel, flashing it again wont cause any issues at all.
I wouldn't worry about origin of kernel's.
App from market called root checker.
Helps diagnose any problems too.

Either phone provider has no update or the model code has no update .
Updates are vendor and country specific release not worldwide .

Not normally you require KF1 root
. Oh yeah, I don't even have a freaking warranty card for this phone, I guess I wouldn't even have Samsung's warranty.
Root = no warranty .
Looks to me like you have had China/Hong Kong firmware flashed = ZS code in the store . Kies update route probably now blocked as phone codes dont match .

[Q] missing serial number. (LPH based rom) VodafoneAU i9100T>LPH based rom.

Ok so I just got a brand new Galaxy s2 FREE from Vodafone AU... well not exactly, after crap reception and a $500 bill direct debited from my account for excess data I never used, they gave it to me outright. Bribe 3 months before my contract expires I guess.
Firstly I'm NOT a NOOB been flashing for 18months on my old SGS1 and do know a bit.
-So I started with a stock GTi9100T phone...
NOTE: After much google action I discovered that the GTi9100T is IDENTICAL to the standard SGS2 as far as I can tell except that is has a lower SAR output. Unlike the i9100G there are NO T-specific hardware or firmware differences (except possibly the modem or trivial rom settings) and no separate sources either.
-Then I flashed a CF-rooted stock kernel (KF2 i think) matching the stock firmware via Odin.
-Next I downloaded Foxhound Batista 0.2 ICS XXLPH based rom and flashed via CWM recovery. I came in two parts and I must have missed the correct seequence because the rom bootlooped.
I decided to format every partition except sdcard and flash CF-root kernel via Odin again.
-This time Foxhound flashed sucessfully.
-Now I did forget to backup my IMEI (facepalm) easy to do when you have a FREE SGS2 in your hands. IMEI survived fine but the Serial number in setting> phone is "Unkown"
-Now my questions are:
-Does the serial number listed as unknown cause any phone-identity problems like a missing/corrupt IMEI?
-Can I fix this with .md5 backups in my EFS folder or any other way easily?
-Is it caused by still having GB bootloaders running ICS?
-will a sammy stock firmware flash (3-file low-level + pit/repartion) fix it like IMEI issues?
-Is is something to do with having GTi9100 rom running on a GTi9100T device?
Thanks in advance peoples, happy to join your area of XDA
Edit: So I finally found a discussion touching on this in the CM9 thread but it reveals very little:

You need new ics boot loader, ics stock ROM to fix that serial....
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
I've never used a custom rom that does show the serial number in settings, and I only used stock for a week when I first got my phone & don't remember if it showed up using stock.
Either way, it's irrelevant. What possible issue could arise whether settings/about phone showed your serial number or not ? As long as your IMEI is good/not showing the generic '0044' one, it's all good.
People getting in a tizz about nothing on here as per usual.
Custom kernels than might lose it again
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
It's the new ICS feature, it shows serial in about phone, and yes it does nothing, but it sure bug when you see unknown.... So update to latest stock and it will be fixed. Easy. As I said, custom kernels again can make it unknown.

jelly bean 4.2.2

Hello guys
I need some help here, few days ago I've updated my S3 to a leaked version of 4.2.2 from sammobile, didn't like the logo at startup (israeli language symbols) so I've decided to get back to 4.1.2. When I reinstalled 4.1.2 android looked for the Product code, and selected Germany. After done this my samsung kies saying my firmware is not supported, done some research and spoke with a nice guy from sam forum. All i know my csc is btu and product code is german. Bought the phone in uk at carphone warehouse and was unlocked to any network. Phone is not rooted but I really want phone to be as it was before, so I can get OTA updates directly. I don't use kies to update but if kies is messed up and don't match OTA updates will be affected.
Here some of my details:
checkFUS
product code : GT-I9300MBDVD2
PDA : I9300XXEMC2
PHONE:I9300XXEMC2
CSC:I9300XAEMC2
Any help will be much appreciated
Thank you
Run the csc selector app from Play store and select BTU, this will factory reset the device.
The problem comes if you are trying to run it on a rom later than ELLA since that update, you need to be rooted to change csc. If you really don't want to root, flash a rom earlier than ELLA, change the csc then use Kies to update to the latest.

Same goes for any stock firmware if you install it then its possible Kies cannot match your firmware .
Find
stock UK or UK CPW firmware from about the time you purchased the phone .
Best solution as always is not to use Kies or OTA and flash what you want when you want .

Android OS battery drain issue

I have G850F with nordic 5.0.2 firmware. I reinstalled via Odin, then factory reseted, then again reinstalled, again fr. It's keep wakelocking very much. The unit "Android OS" and "Android System" are the main battery drainers, but I have no idea why. On many forums this is a common problem. From 6AM to 2PM Android OS wakelocked 40 minutes. It was mobile data on, and location off. On wifi, the problem still persists, in the night, it losts 3-4% or more. Location on or off doesn't make a difference. On my previous phones this (Or similar) problem wasn't exist (Mi3W) or it has been fixed (Xperia SP).
How can I fix this? What I tried: deleted old, not updated apps, cleaned nano sim, factory reseted, wiped cache, disabled UnifiedDaemon, disabled Location and Location Reporting, disabled Samsung Find my Phone, set it to WCDMA/GSM instead of 4G/WCDMA/GSM.
Screenshots are coming.

If I know right, greenify is to freeze one specific app. But I have nothing specific app like Google Play Services, Facebook, etc that is draining my battery, they have quite low battery usage. It's only Android System and Android OS that are draining my battery.
Or if i know wrong, please tell me how to use greenify to get rid of this.

True, Greenify Auto-Hibernates Apps You're Not Using to Save Battery.
Try a factory reset.
I have written what I have already done.
Now I tried to reinstall with Kies, kies downloads Nordic rom for itself, this was my last idea.
