This will be my first cell phone. Should hopefully get it sometime next week. Pretty excited, just hope I don't explode waiting for it.
Good first choice for a phone. It's one of the better ones on the market. And I have yet to really see anything else coming out that worth while. Minus maybe the Nexus Prime. But the specs on that one are up in the air. So we'll see. But either way, good choice.
Congrats on your first cell phone man! Welcome to the world of embedded linux/android
Honestly for everything working out the box you chose a really great phone.

I'll try and make this story short, no promises.
I work at a credit union and am in charge of our online banking service, which includes mobile. I never really call that many people (or at least I didn't, explained later). I could always access our mobile site from my work PC.
About 6 months ago I finally got on Facebook and started hooking up with a lot of old Highschool friends, most all live in Albuquerque while I moved to Virginia. Chatting on FB was cool. I started calling some of them and my phone bill skyrocketed lol, long conversations.
1 month ago I took a road trip to visit family that I had not seen in quite a while. My mom lent me her cell phone for my trip. During that trip I found I really enjoyed getting in contact with anyone whenever I wanted to.
Basically it's my re-emergence into a social life outside of forums that is driving my want for a cell phone. Basically I'm getting my jiggy back on and that all kind of started with me joining FB. I even started my own Youtube page a while ago because I was bottled up for such a long time.
I hope that explains it, there a lot of other small thing but I've pretty much got all the basics explained

That starts as a convenience but quickly becomes an addiction.
Some people can't walk out the door without a watch; I carry a couple of items, one of which is a mobile device (can't call it a phone since my monthly voice usage averages 5 minutes).

Definitely.
What I don't get is that some of these people seem to be Photon owners who for some reason have buyers remorse.
This phone isn't even half a year old and at present works perfectly fine as it is. It got root within the first few weeks, it got 2 updates to address it's initial issues, and the source was just released. No other phone that has been recently released has gotten this kind of treatment. WTF?!
ROMs are created to enhance a phone's capabilities. And at its current capacity, there's nothing to enhance on the Photon. At least nothing that can't be addressed by purchasing apps from the Market...

That looks pretty much ideal.
How much though?
I am ALL over this! Hopefully the case will look nice. By reading the description for the Tmo version, it sounds like the case will be silicone?
probably, the one i had for my inspire was silicone, but the price is nice
Still not out yet. What's up with that!
Maybe they got wind of the Skyrocket and decided to put their R&D effort that way
Just sent them an email asking why it wasn't available yet.
If you are planning on getting one you can sign up on their website to get emailed a discount code when a case is first made available. I imagine once it comes out officially you won't be able to get the discount.

I emailed him today and got a response which stated the case would be available on the 25th but in the email he referred to it as the Skyrocket so its probably not for our phones.
Well you see his response to me. Here was my email to him
And yeah, no discount code :-(
They already got the phones mixed up once. Who knows if they got it right this time? Guess we'll have to wait and see. Again.

These cases got horrible video reviews on YouTube. Did anyone actually try these?
Based on their responses (or lack thereof) and not being able to distinguish the Skyrocket from our phone, I am not putting any faith anymore in this vendor to be honest.

We are now subject to baked in roms as I do see the trend.....look at Samsung's s2 for starters(girlfriend has one). I loved my original EVO. Hardware was top notch but for the CPU. I saw the duel core as an upgrade but on this phone, some things work soso. Word to the wise, coming from a real general customer. Shape up or I will take what I got and move back to a simple texting phone on a CHEAPER carrier.

It's more about smartphones reaching a plateau.. There isn't but so much you can do.
You can keep adding cores, but for what? The technology for the cpu, gpu and everything else is at a really good point right now so upgrades aren't gonna be as big. It's the same thing when it comes to software upgrades.
Jelly Bean is a small upgrade when compared to some previous versions of android. Maybe you're waiting for a phone to rub your back and clean your house.. That isn't coming until Android 37.1 so you'll be waiting a while

I think the OP is upset because some things that work great on an older phone seem to have regressed with this phone (if I'm interpreting correctly).
I do understand in a way - some things that have gone backwards have no good reason to do so (things like the WiFi issue and the fact that the signal of this phone is not as strong as the original EVO, plus the volume is lower).
However, overall, this phone is absolutely awesome. Those little things will be fixed OP, don't fret.

I'm not sure what kind of leaps and bounds you're expecting cell phone manufacturers to make these days, but phones are still improving quite a bit. You must be talking about Apple releasing the same device every year with one or two incremental upgrades.
Glad I got some attention. I know that everything is moving forward, but do you think the general population (nonrooters) should have a phone that works as prescribed? Or are we really bata testing the public. Come on.....we are relying on Toyota to not fix the throttle problem again. I want only a cell phone to work as the specks say, or dang close to it in past Experience.

I was serious when I said I really, really doubted that he had no hand in it. Devices don't just randomly explode. This is what you get when you attention-whore on the internet. This is also what happens when you accuse a large company of creating a faulty flagship phone.
I hope he at least has to give back the phone that was hand-delivered to him.

I defended Samsung because I didn't believe for a moment that the phone "randomly exploded". The idiot tried to claim it did, and got his ass handed to him when the Fire Department found out it had to do with microwave damage.

Sometime should conduct an equal experiment and microwave an lte and see how it holds up under similar circumstances as the sg3. Then compare build quality.
And no, in not doing it with mine. Lol

It's still Samsung's fault. The phone should have handled its time in the microwave much better than it did. I'm sure my EVO LTE would have came out of the microwave with perfectly cooked hot dogs and Ramen Noodles.

Here, lemme fix that for you:
thanks that wouldn't take for nothin...
That's it lol? The day I decided to stop forgiving Sprint for 2 years of useless data by switching to Straight Talk AT&T. And this wasn't even the worst speed I've had with them. As someone who used to work for them, I have to say that, at the customer service level, they're better than most companies. They have a nice selection of phones. Hell, even their coverage is pretty damn good. But their data speeds are complete garbage, even before the iPhone came over to their network. Speaking of that, I know they were forced to carry it because Verizon picked it up, but right before the iPhone came out, they doubled the upgrade fee and removed yearly upgrades. Why? Because they spent about $15.5 Billion on iPhone 4's and 4S's and are not going to turn a profit until 2015.

Oh man, thats terrible. I dont even use it for internet or anything that involves data. I just use it as a phone now lol. I have wifi but I just whip out my latop and my son plays with the Evo. Im over here by Disneyland and its bad. Im going to give my wife the LTE and borrow her WIMAX Epic 4G Touch till then.
I pretty much have to use WiFi at home and the office. If I'm anywhere else, forget it. I don't even pull my phone out of my pocket unless it's for a phone call.

It's every carrier's wet dream: Sell you features you can't even use!
Man I feel bad about complaining about 1.3 Mbps Down.
How's this?
I spend many a day banging my fricking head against the wall. :banghead:

Me too. That's great for 3g IMO. Especially since I used to get like .4 up and down.

Houston's 3G is horrible. Thankfully at home I can use WiFi, at work I have 4G thankfully.

Pfft, you guys are lucky. Here in the Louisville suburbs we routinely get under 75 Kbps down... seriously!
