Turn your Wifi Flyer into a phone. - HTC Flyer, EVO View 4G

I used Grove IP and download it on the marketplace and used my google voice account to log in. Now you can make and received call from your flyer as long as you have a wifi connection.
Just wanted to share something to the community.

can you then pair a bluetooth headset?
thanks for the find

Yes that did work. Now is there a way to receive calls from a cellphone calling you from Grove IP?

I use my Skype account and it also works well.

I know there are ROMs that enable the Bluetooth functionality, but is there a flashable zip to do the same thing for those of us who'd rather stay with the stock ROM?

Be sure to change your settings in Google voice. Don't have it forward to any number have it forward to Google talk or email that way if anyone calls your Google voice number it rungs your tablet with grooveip. Wired headsets are confirmed working. I used the standard htc headset with the inline mic that came with every android htc phone I purchased and the work perfectly for you hearing the caller and the caller hearing you.

Thankyou I was having trouble getting it to receive calls.

No, you have to root, but you can keep the stock ROM , just rooted. Just to be clear bluetooth works on totally stock, but not bluetooth headset. There is a small mod to one text file you do once rooted that enables headset profile for bluetooth

Just want to know if it uses the sim or google server to call?

Doesn't need a SIM if you have wifi its a VOIP

There is actually a very active forum thread with the developers of GrooveIP here.

I'll have to look into those ones, I installed Tango video calling, and I can see the other callers video, but no mic or video on my end. I wasn't expecting it to work, and I'm ok with it not working just yet, hopefully it will get fixed when full release comes. Other than that, this thing rocks!

I used Groove IP to call my self, I could hear my first word, then it went dead. Def has potential in coming CM updates.
Same thing here
Gtalk with video - video works but no sound from to
Skyupe video - neither video nor audio work (audio seem to start OK)
Sipdroid setup with Google voice - calls go thru but no sound from tp

I used grooveIP with google voice disabling the 3g/4g option and also enabling google chat under GV settings. I was able to make a call but the sound was either delayed or not there. I can see this working with updated versions of CM. I can also receive calls but same sound issues.
I've tried sipdroid Cm7 but audio doesn't work.. Hopefully cm9 will be a different story.

[Q] Has anyone developed a good way to make phone call?

I tried with GrooveIP but no luck.
No luck with Csipsimple or Sipdroid. I figured one of these would be the first to get mic/headphone support.
I have tried Skype but when the person who im calling answersthe call it force closes, havent tried any other app.

the only thing the mic can be used for right now is the built in nook functions and voice search. i don't think we will be able to use the mic for anything else until we can get a custom rom on it
I do all the time, download groove ip from the market, it links to your google voice account

I agree with you, though i will give obion a try too, i already have an android smartphone for voip calls but it would be awesome if we could have it in the nook, in fact is one of the reasons i bought the NT and not the NC. It is definitely a must have feature, at list for me .

No, it's surely can be used in any app. Because it's working in Hi-Q MP3 Rec (Lite), for instance. BTW, the sound quality is very good.

I can confirm that as well, I downloaded "Voice Recorder" from the market to record notes, and it works. What gives? if some random app can get access to the microphone, why can't the VoIP apps do it?
I'm trying to figure out how to make a call somehow as well.
Has there been anything new on this front yet - just bought and rooted a NT and would love to make calls with it
I used skype on mine and it worked well.
The closest I have gotten is with Skype or grooveip.
Skype FCs when the party being called answers. Each version I've tried has acted a little differently so I am still hopeful that an update will work some day. With the proliferation of tablets I know they are working on it though not necessarily for the NT.
Everything about grooveip seems to work but the microphone doesn't seem to be recognized and the speaker does not work. The speaker plays the ringing sound while trying to connect (and the volume is adjustable) but upon answer it does not play and the volume function is Xed out just as it would be when you are muted at the lowest setting. Volume buttons do not respond. Other than that there is definitely a telephony link between the NT and the phone being called. This is version 1.1.8 I'm trying.

Would you mind sharing? I am quite interested in getting Skype to work. No success as yet.
Here's a basic (possibly stupid) question. Is the NT headset jack a mic/earphone jack or just a headset jack? I couldn't tell from any of the teardowns.
im not sure but it could be a lib/s missing or existing one that need to be modified, ill try to look into it ask some devs i know and report back
I downloaded textplus and it is SO ClOSE to working! I can use it to sms and I can receive calls and make calls. The person on the other end can hear me BUT I cent hear them!
Also there is twin thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1363215&page=10
and one interesting comment
I also have success with iPhone mic + talk-a-play. I note /etc/astound.conf shows both mic channels ON. Could this be part of the problem? Linux Alsa doesn't work with Skype unless you turn one channel off because the 2 channels cancel each other out. Someone who really knows Alsa needs to have a good look at this file. I don't really understand it, but it definitely gives a description for a mic.

I'm playing with asound.conf now, and it seems to be the right place to look. I managed to break HI-Q recorder from working, make 'fring test call' be heard (not me), and even make device stuck from full boot (removing asound.conf from adb shell saved me) =)

GrooVe IP

Hi, I am trying to get this to work for the Nook Tablet, anyone have any suggestions?
The app works but it doesn't use the mic, so when I call people they cannot hear me.
Description about the app: "GrooVe IP - app supports making and receiving calls using Wi-Fi and/or 3G/4G data connections. It works via Google Voice." Quote by Explore3.
Thanks so much!

Suggest messaging the app develop to support nook tablet.
I couldn't find any similar app that works...
I don't know which ones I tried offhand... 5-10... none of them worked. Most often the mic didn't work
I tried another app that did use the mic (some voice changer) and it worked with the mic. Just FYI.
I also tried a couple google voice vop apps including gvoice and grooveip with the the same results--no outgoing voice via mic. It seems the mic is not captured by the app, maybe its protected by the proprietary kernel idk. It works with voice recorder and i can blow out the flame on candle, but thats about it. Voice via mic also registers on a db meter app. I guess voip is "locked out" right??
Update after installing CM7 via CW backup. Grooveip is the same--no outgoing voice, but speaker works fine for incoming voice. However, it's the opposite for the other phone apps. On the native phone app provided with CM7 and on gVoice the mic works great, but alas no incoming sound via headphones nor speakers. Also, voice search and voice dial work pretty good, although there is room for improvement on the voice recognition for the dialer.
ps Good job on the CM7 port--its amazing--many thanks!
Has the fix for the mic problem been found yet? And if so what is it??
Google voice search works with the mic now w CM7~! So does gVoice (and also native CM7 phone app), but arrrrg without speakers. I have no idea why the mic won't work with grooveIP, and instead the speakers work. weird how the results are opposite for these voip apps. its soooo close to working I can taste it...
Is there anyone else trying to get this to work? GrooveIP works except for the mic. when I try it. I think it has to do with the mic Device settings.
if gVoice works with mic (but no speaker audio), and in contrast GrooveIP doesn't work with mic (but has speaker audio), its only a matter of getting either app developer to take a look at their app with CM7. just a matter of time.
FYI...I'm running the latest CM9 nightly(20120527) and grooveip seems to be working with both a wired headset and also just using the built in MIC...
Same experience here.
I have a Nook Tablet 16GB custom rom - using Liquid Smooth v2.4 official.
Groove-IP wont even sign in.
even tho on a stock unactivated SGS3 on the same network works like a charm.
After a few minutes it reports no valid network available....
You have to set it up on your PC first.
Won't let me use my mobile number, so I guess I won't be using it on my Nook16, running Android 4.3.
I've had no problems with mic or speakers using GrooVeIP. I've been using Android 4.1.2 20121208 succulent acclaim rom 10.1 running from bootable SD card.

Voip failed

I tried viber, mypeople to make phone calls. None of them worked since these apps dont recognize NT's microphone. I also used earphones with mic but they dont work as well.
Hope there is voip app that works on NT
I tried viber too. Such a shame it doesn't recognise the mic. Maybe possible to tweak a setup file for it to work. Anybody have any ideas which?
I was lookin forward to it too

I have the same problem with Skpye
When I dail somebody, but always failed
Only One time, when I did "video call" to somebody ,it worked, both voice and video
The annoying thing is that if you download google voice search that uses the mic!
I have seen a few reports of people using google voice with groove Ip... also seen reports of it not working though
I have groove ip, I can call out and people hear me, my only problem is hearing them. I might try using the speaker phone setting or headphones and see what happens. hopefully once we can load custom kernels well can find a way to unlock and utilize the Bluetooth enabled chip giving us the option to use a Bluetooth mic and speaker
What about Gvoice app?
I have both gvoice and grooveip on my NT. I have incoming sound but no outgoing on either. How did you get the mic to work or did I misunderstand you having outgoing voice??

Could you share which version you're using? I connect but neither the mic or the speaker seem to work? Did you tweak the mic gain any? I tried a few setting but it didn't seem to make a difference.
cm7 alpha final and no mic with voip
I am using the latest cyanogenmod7 and have used groove ip, line2, and a few other apps without success. Everything works except the mic. I use groove ip now and then to call my phone when i cant find it around the house with my nook. I really need this service to work though. Voip is pretty important to my oj this nook. Hopefully a fix will come along.

Bluetooth breaks voice to text recongnition

Galaxy Note 2 - Verizon
I noticed I am able to talk to text using the messaging and gtalk app just fine while at home with bluetooth turned on. However once in and paired to my 2012 Toyota Highlander I am no longer able to talk to text in those applications unless I turn bluetooth off. Google Now is unaffected at all.
Anyone else notice this bug?
Thanks.

This has effected me on Google now also. The only thing that works right is s-voice, but who wants to use that!? I found a workaround, but you are basically still using your phone for the voice recognition, and the Bluetooth strictly for voice calls. If you can work with that and just toggle between the two if you want to use your Bluetooth for other audio, this will work for you.
Just go into your Bluetooth settings for whatever device you have paired, and turn off "media audio". Voice detection will now work fine, but you have to do it through the phone(which kind of defeats the purpose, but hey...it's just a temporary workaround). Hope this helps

Not just the Note II either. My SGS3 does exactly the same thing. Seems like a bug or someone, somewhere thought it was good idea. Siri (on my iPhone 4S)worked while streaming audio and paired to my car and my Nexus 7 works too (even though it doesn't have a 'phone' both options are there and checked and it works).
I just noticed this last night. While my headset was paired, I tried to use speech recognition through Swiftkey Flow Beta and it would not work. Also, when I hit the multi-purpose button on my headset to voice dial, SIRI would come up instead.
SIRI must die. Soon.
Is there anything new with this issue?
Between this and the other problem with the music player auto starting, my enjoyment of my note 2 while in my car is severely limited.
No movement but something needs to happen as this is really annoying.
