Hello All! My friend has a samsung galaxy s2, and I have a hero, I love the way the text messaging looks, in coloured boxes lol, Is there a apk file or can this be added on our heroes?
I would suggest using an alternative messaging app from the Android Market like Go SMS. You can customize it and it has popup and is goodlooking
Anyway, I think I've got the apk your looking for here. I don't know if it will work though. I don't see how it could mess up your phone, but if it does, don't blame me, you install on your own risk
Edit: If it fails or you want to return to the stock one, you can probably just reflash your rom
Edit2: I tried to install it, but it failed. If you still want it over Go SMS, i can try to make a flashable zip instead, that may work
thanks mate, will try it
regards
GARY
Ok, since I'm going for my holidays tomorrow i did a flashable zip with SGS 2 messaging app. It probably requires some TouchWiz stuff to work, but if it doesn't work just reflash your rom with cache and dalvik wipe
thanks mate, will give it a flash and report back mate enjoy your holidays
just tried it, but it corrupts the messaging option on the phone, it probably needs some sort of touchwiz stuff to make it work now using go sms pro what nearly re-creates what I want
The SG1 used go sms for its stock app, At least it did on o2. Just install that and find the right theme
1. Is is possible to remove stock dialer and install any other? I saw that immediately I froze dialer.apk with Titanium got force stop.
I install TouchPro Dialer and associate dialer, and contacts with them. But when I make call I still get stock dialer screen with options in 4 angles on the edge of screen. Can I remove it?

Go with root explorer to /system/app and find dialer.apk and change extension to something like .bak

No, you can do that. If you do that you get FC all the time.

Yes you can remove dialer
For that get SystemAppRemover open it and go in System Apps tab in the bottom
Then find phonebook.apk and click on it then click "Other" Then click "Backup"
Then come back and and again click phonebook.apk and click "Yes" to uninstall it.
Here you go ! you have rmeoved default dialer completely and also has made its backup
Now use any other dialer instead of it and if it won't work then open system app remover click "Restore Apps" from the middle button
And then find phonebook.apk and get back your stock dialer
You can find these backups of apk in systemapp folder on your SD Card
Note : Try at your own risk,I do not advice to remove Stock dialer just i can advice to use optional dialer without removing stock one
Enjoy...

All thing you say I can make with Titanium Backup. But when you remove all three apk files, you got force close, and all you can get is to reflash mobile phone. It should work in theory, but it doesnot work...

And i was able to make calls and also stock dialer was removed and thats what we wanted to do
Try it ... cause i am telling you after experimenting it on my Handset... ok..
Here is link for Contapps,And its free !

I try your procedure, but it doesn't help. Immediately after I backup and remove phonebook.apk, I got force close. And I restart phone, all is ok, but I am OFFLINE, until I restore stock dialer and then reboot phone.

You can edit default dialer images from phonebook.apk -res folder and then edit images from drawable-land-mdpi and drawable-mdpi and edit layout-land and layout-mdpi,xml folder to edit conguration files ....
I hope it would help ....

yes above method did worked for me to remove stock dialer
i didn't got force closes
I remember the dialer before i upgraded to ICS had a tab at the top for contacts, i could click that and find the contact i wanted, hell i could even send a SMS from there by swyping the contact name to the side...
The new dialer for ICS has contacts listed under the menu button, meaning its one more keypress to get there. It just doesnt "flow" as well, if that makes sense.
Im wondering, has anyone else noticed this? how can i get back the old dialer? Are there any good tweaked ICS roms that have this (and other) improvements? Im sorry but search didnt come up with anything and this place is crazy (two android development sections!?!) i couldnt find anything when i searched that met what im looking for.
Im currently running XXLPQ stock
hey there, i am using resurrection remix 1.4 w/ siyahkernel3.1rc6, and the dialler app for ics has contacts at the top of the dialler if thats what your looking for? its got 3 tabs, dialler, recent calls, contacts
That's exactly what inn looking for, any chance you can post the dialer apk for me?
i will do a titanium backup and see if i can get hold of my apk
EDIT: the two files i attached, put it in sd card, titanium backup... i THINK this will work, i would to a nandroid backup just to be sure, then try restoring the apps (search for phone in titanium)
pm me if i dnt reply to this thread
No go on the titanium backup, didn't wanna show up in my list, i cleared my titanium folder so there was nothing else, put the files in, restarted, start TB, no backups found for the dialer.
Try using root explorer and finding your dialer apk and post that? I can manually replace the file
thats the thing its not called dialler lol, its called phone, and seems to be fragmented into two parts =S lol let me see if i can find someting else
EDIT: try un g zipping the file so it shows an APK file and try pushing it to the system maybe? or installing it
EDIT 2: i managed to extract these apk's from the resurrection remix rom:
contacts, contactsprovider, phone, phonesky
hope it helps
Perhaps both Phone.apk (and .odex if applicable) and Contacts.apk (and .odex if applicable)?
my bad let me find .odex
EDIT: cant find .odex but try push the above found in system (on the rom.zip)

You don't have Phone.odex and Contacts.odex? That means YOU'RE on a deodexed ROM... But IF the other guy who is requesting the files is on an odexed ROM, he will have an extra step of removing the applicable .odex files. But he may already know that. (and it's always recommended to back anything up that you may end up needing again if you remove it)

I had that problem with "Resurrection rom 1.1" and believe me you better re-flash the ROM than s***ing with .apk-s... Didn't work for me so if you don't want to flash again you may use exDialer from the market, it's a good app, has the "swipe" functions and ICS themes, I used it for a week before switching to RR 1.4.
Ya def need one with an odex file...

No... you don't.
Back up the .apk file you intend to replace, along with their corresponding .odex file. Then REMOVE the .odex file and replace the .apk.
For example, if he gives you Phone.apk, and you have Phone.apk and Phone.odex, then COPY your original copies of Phone.apk and Phone.odex to a safe place, then delete Phone.odex, and replace your existing Phone.apk.
I've done this before, and used a deodexed Phone app on my odexed firmware.
Tried that but it didn't seem to work, after restart i lost service and couldn't dual out and had several other services complain on me, perhaps it's not comparable with my system?

If his version of Android is different than yours, then his apps probably wouldn't work for you.
Going back to read the thread, he said he is on Resurrection Remix 1.4. Looking at the thread for that ROM, it is AOKP based, with elements from CM9. What firmware are you on? You said you're on ICS, but you never mention specifically what ROM. Are you on stock? Then yeah, his apps probably won't work for you.
damn a shame it wouldnt work, try out go dialler tho if you want quick contacts access, from the dialler you just have to swipe to change to contacts... i used to use it but the themes arent as good as the ones we have lol
That would explain it I'm running LPQ stock...

I've not seen any mods for stock ICS to have this. A quick google search also turns up nothing for stock ICS.
So if you absolutely want this in ICS, you will need to flash a custom ROM.
EDIT to add: I should rephrase; you also have the option of using a third party dialer that has contacts integrated. But if you want to have the dialer that is included in the ICS ROM to have the contacts tab, you'll need to flash a custom ROM.

Hey there guys,
today I flashed Omega Rom 33.3 on my S3, but I noticed the keyboard is different from the 4.1.1 version. I have to click on the recommended word, but on the version of 4.1.1 it have choosen automatically the words by pressing the space bar. Also there are no autocorrection preferences, so I can´t adjust it.
So my questions are: Am I blind? How I can use the samsung keyboard from Omega Rom 32.1? Can somebody help me?
Thanks in advance
I also noticed this just now after flashing omega 33.3, which is JB 4.1.2. Samsung Keyboard is different, where we cannot press spacebar to auto correct the word.
Is there a way to solve this or where to get the older 4.1.1 version keyboard?
Thanks
you guys can uninstall the new keyboard and just push to the system the old one
Thanks for the prompt reply. BUt Im quite a newbie, how to uninstall keyboard? Will it just automatically push to the old one after uninstall? I have just wiped and flashed with new Omega 33.3, I thought all the old files have been deleted?

i search the whole apps directory... cant find anything related to samsung keyboards :crying:
anyone knows what is the apk name for samsung keyboard?
and how can I roll back to the old 4.1.1 keyboard?
Is called SamsungIME.apk
You will need the old apk. Get it from your backup (assuming you make backup). Just copy paste to replace it with old keyboard apk and set permission rw--r-r
Then reboot.

thanks... i got make backup using titanium backup. but where to find this samsungIME? i tried to find in titanium backup folder, but can't see any there.
I tried the keyboard from Omega Rom 32.1, but it doesn´t work... I will try again and report.
EDIT: The keyboard crashes... Maybe somebody can upload a working apk from 4.1.1, which works on 4.1.2. On my backup the apk is coming with an odex file.
I tried to use the "SamsungIME.apk", "T9DB" folder and "libXt9core.so" from Omega Rom 32.1 but without success.
Any ideas?
No idea how...
but i found an alternative.. Go Keyboard is fantastic !! go search at Play

Hi,
Try this:
1. Uninstall Themer.
2. Delete the /sdcard/MyColorScreen/ folder (removing the Exported folder within it if you saved any themes).
3. Reinstall Themer.
Also make sure that your device is running on stock DPI/resolution/display settings.

If you're running a custom ROM, chances are that you might have edited certain settings. These include hiding the soft keys, editing the DPI settings or even settings your own system-wide icon pack. Keeping your phone as standard as possible means that Themer will work to its full potential.

Thanks friend support, I found the solution thanks to the comments on your previous post was due to the icon pack was changed and for that reason I did not work properly on my phone themer.
Thank you very much for the help. :victory: :victory:
