Ok guys, this has got to stop.
Based upon my experience thus far, there doesn't seem to be an app (Titanium included) that will back up your widgets and restore them perfectly to your homescreens after a new rom flash.
Nandroid can do this because it basically just images your whole system, but of course, restoring a nandroid sort of negates the benefits of a new rom flash.
So, if Nandroid can do it, why can't someone write an app that creates an index of all widgets and restores them - sort of a "baby nandroid" that just does widgets? It HAS GOT to be doable and I'm sure it would sell like hotcakes.
Let's go geniuses - make this!
**UPDATE: My bad, I should have specified NON-SENSE widgets that won't restore.
This would be awesome if it can be done.

Titanium can restore sense widgets if you backup HTC desktop and restore data only. This will also place your app icons as you had them. You're only out of luck with non sense widgets. Not perfect, but still a good time saver.
Op.... He's on his way you know.
FREE THE DIRK!
If you're using Sense launcher, you've been able to save your layout since the Evo 4G. It's called a Scene. Hit menu -> Scene and save it. Then just backup/restore Sense data with Titanium.

Did u try MyBackup Pro and check System and Home Settings?

I dont know about you but my Titanium Backup restores all my widgets and the data as well. I just have to place them back in their respectful spot. All of 5 mins and im ready to go after flashing a rom.
My backup pro does it flawlessly.

Hey guys I'm running Bionix V right now but I'm going to update to V 1.2.1.
So I'm wondering what the differences are between the 'Gingerbread' and the 'Touchwiz' editions? And in your opinions which is better and why?
I would just flash both of them to find out myself but I hate having to import my contacts, apps, sms/mms, and other things individually everytime. Unless you know of an app that makes it quick and easy to do all at once.
If someone could explain the differences I think I could make the right choice the first time
Thanks
Edit:
Also I've been hearing good/maybe bad things about V 1.2.1
Should users upgrade or stay with V? I'll keep you posted when I upgrade I've been a little busy lately
The difference is how the phone looks. When you hit the home button, your desktop, or launcher, has icons, widgets, etc.
The gingerbread one looks like standard, non themed gingerbread.
TouchWiz looks more like your vibrant did out of the box. I personally find it incredibly ugly so I prefer the gingerbread theme.

Yes, I have been. I really don't think it matters which one you install if you're planning on installing a 3rd party launcher, anyway.

Oh really the only difference between the touchwiz and gingerbread is the launcher?
And how customizable are each of them and maybe I wouldn't need a third party launcher?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
The only advantage I can think of for using touchwiz is that it comes with the Samsung apps installed as well.

That's what I want to get rid of. All the apps like mobileTV, amazon, kindle, all the bloatware.
So gingerbread is the way I should go?

I'm not sure if it comes with the bloatware, but it would come with the Samsung widgets that are available using TouchWiz. (One example is the "Friends" widget that updates facebook and twitter)
But if you're planning on using LauncherPro or any other launcher, all of this is moot anyway. I'd recommend the Gingerbread version because I like the notification bar and stock android is so much better looking than TouchWiz in every aspect.
EDIT: You asked earlier how to import contacts and things; you should sync them with Google as it makes the transition between ROMs seamless. Also, Titanium Backup can backup and restore all of your apps and data. (This excludes SMS). Finally, I use SMS backup to backup all of my texts/MMS to gmail for safekeeping
Thanks wearmaize
I'll go with gingerbread. I use sms and titanium backup they work great.
But last time I synced with google it didn't save all my contacts when I flashed so I don't know if somethings wrong or I'm doing it wrong

I have been hearing conflicting posts about the new Bionix version...I think i'll just stick with V

Next time you sync with google, check your contacts online using a computer to make sure they're all there.
As for Bionix, I'd recommend v 1.2 or v 1.2.1. I find v 1.2 to be the most stable, but I've only been on v 1.2.1 for a day so I can't really say for sure. Both are great.

Bionix 1.2.1 is nice, worthile upgrading I can see
I have always liked using go launcher but I recently started using sense instead. I love the weather lock screen. The only problem I am having is that I don't know anyway to save my configuration. So if I change ROM's I have to reconfigure all of my screens the way I like them. Is there a way to back up the way I have sense set up? If anyone knows how to do that I would be so excited to learn. Thanks for any help.

Just do a full nandroid backup with ROM Manager... It will save everything and you can revert right back to where you were... Restore it after playing with ROMS
I use Titanium Backup, and it will back up your Sense homescreen settings (widget/icon layouts and such) under "[WALLPAPER/SETTINGS] Settings 2.2.1." TB is an EXTREMELY helpful app, especially if you plan on doing a lot of flashing. It will let you easily backup and restore all apps, app data, messages, settings, and all of that other fun stuff. Definitely worth the $5 for Pro.
My backuppro works well for what you are describing.
Thanks. I have TB pro. I just didn't realize that it would save my screen configuration like that. Thanks for the help.

No prob!
Is it possible to backup/restore the settings of either of these apps? After flashing a new ROM I can restore all my apps and settings via TB but neither Handcent or GoSMS have this ability. I have to tweak all the damn settings and colors which gets annoying. GoSMS has the ability to backup/restore SMS but I don't see anything for the settings and theming.

I manage to make a theme for my Handcent account and then I Sync it with my Handcent account and I everytime I get a new Rom I just login and Restore my theme.. and it works for me... I don't know about GoSMS...
Hope I answer your question...
Does that include customizations to the bubble and text color in conversations?
Believe me, if it's not a feature of go sms yet, give them a week... Those guys are relentless! They're the only stock replacement developers I use: launcher, sms and contacts/dialer are all top notch (GO Weather is still borked though, go figure lol no pun intended haha)

Use titanium backup for all the options it saves all the data, and back your text with go SMS pro.

Weird, my first post-GoSMS ROM flash only restored SMS but not settings while a recent wipe/flash I was able to restore settings as well. Not even TB restored GoSMS settings before.
Just uninstalled Handcent because restoring settings is a major selling point.
EVERY time I restore my Handcent with TB everything is fine. All my settings and customizations. The only thing it won't backup is the sms/mms. That's why I paid for the backup settings. I don't understand why you would be having any problems.
Me either lol. I bought TB pro and far from new to flashing, TB, etc. I'm just glad everything works now.
I've been pretty much flashing "a rom a day" and re aligning my pages and widgets is getting rather annoying. I wonder if there is an app that would backup the desktop layout for this rom. So far it looks like I'll be sticking with InfectedRom.
2nd Question: How do I change the default caller ID picture?
thanks
Adw ex has a backup desktop option. I use it all the time when I flash roms.

To change the picture go to People(app)>[person name]>Menu button>Edit Contact>
Then you will see on the contact's picture icon at the top left of the edit screen there is a small arrow next to the picture. Press on the picture and a "select contact photo" window will pop up, with the choices to set the contact picture from Gallery, Camera, Google, Twitter, Facebook, etc.

Yes, same here. I have a paid copy of TiBu, but don't see anything called Backup Desktop Layout, or anything like that.
EDIT:
Found the TouchWiz Home system app in TiBu and it did backup my pages and icons, but not widgets. Can't backup TouchWiz widgets at all I am seeing. A slight annoyance, but I'll get over it and check out launchers. From what I have read, replacing your default stock launch does not put another layer over the UI. It replaces it! So, it should not cost extra memory, battery, etc..
You can also use Nova Launcher (Prime), which imports the layout of your own launcher, and then you can back it up.
Still the best launcher imo.
Thanks, I am checking out the free version now. And also that ADW one as well.
I did find out that I can backup the TouchWiz Home system app in TiBu and it will restore the pages and icons, but not the widgets.
+1 on Nova Launcher Prime
backs up widgets too

Yes, the backup, restore is superb
The importing from other launchers too
And widget restorations
And lastly, decent customization

Depends how you made the screen. If you used like uccw and stuff, just make a tb and restore the apps plus data.

Yes, use tb.
Each time you want a new theme, use a new tb
I have like 3 or 4 themes I switch back and forth between this way.
