rooting android 2.3.4 - HTC EVO 3D

I have the latest version on my evo 3d android 2.3.4 can it be rooted with unrevocked, i was trying to do it but it said it doesnt support this current version and suggestions please?

I'm having a similar problem, but I was using revolutionary, but when it showed me the hboot version it says 1.50 and that this version is not currently supported. Would it be safe to do it the HTC way? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

your suggestion is to wait for revolutionary to be updated

Yup or do the htc dev bootloader unlock wich is a long complicated process and I heard I won't get wimax and wifi on some roms and that installing a different kernel is a pain in the as...... So yeah I guess I'll wait **** I waited almost 2 months for the regular evo to get rooted in 2.3 android I guess I have to do the same here again.

plus if you wanna install the cm7 alpha you must be rooted with the revolutionary method which means anyone with the 2.3.4 ota is out of luck until revolutionary is updated

Wow!!! Man I hope I don't have to wait too long for revolutionary update

Is that true of just people not knowing how to do it properly with a HTC-unlocked phone? From what I've read, they can flash kernels, but it has to be from fastboot. You just remove the kernel from the .zip and flash it from fastboot and flash the .zip from recovery. I haven't paid that much attention to it since I'm s-off and could certainly be wrong.

[Q] Root for evo running 2.3.3

Hi, I updated ota to android 2.3.3 for my evo 4g. I'm a noob so bear with me. I'm unimpressed with 2.3.3 and I want to install the kingdom revolution sense 3.0 rom. From my understanding, the first step is to root. However, it seems that there isn't any root available for this software update. Is there anything I can do besides wait for possibly unrevoked 3 to be updated? I also need to install amon ra so that I can install the rom. If my thought process isn't right please correct me. I've never tried modding my phone before. Thanks.
bump bump. can i get an answer here??
Unless your S off you'll need to wait til a New root is released Im guessin weeks rather than days. Just keep an eye out when its releases it will be obvious

Alright thanks man. I'll be on the lookout.
Same situation here. Been meaning to root for a while but didn't start digging until this week after I had already taken the OTA gingerbread update.
Been asking in #unrevokedtest on freenode, nothing yet. Hopefully they get this going.
I got a replacement evo with 2.3.3 PRE INSTALLED when they said they re-called the 2.3.3 update and not to update it was pre installed so im either waiting for a new root also or till my 3d evo comes on the 24 I was order number 1

Is it even possible to be s off without of rooted before?

My Evo was rooted ising unrevoked3 + unrevoked forever. When i updated OTA to GB 2.3.3. I first had to unroot my evo,but i didnt use the s-on patch bcuz i thought that as long as i was s-off i could root my device.again once updated, but the only thing it did was make it so i could roll back to 2.2. So my Evo is using the official GB 2.3.3 update & is S-off. Ive tried every root method i can think of,including GingerBreak, which did qork on a few other devices. Since i can still rollback to 2.2, i can stkll flash other GB roms, but i like Sense too much, its one reason i like HTC devices. If anyone knows how to root the evo with 2.3.3 with s-off please post for everyone like me. This is the.first time unrevoked hasnt been able to.root my evo aftr an OTA update, but the past updates were still uaing 2.2.
I also havnt heard of a recall on the GB Evo update. A Sprint rep told me that the evo will most likely get the update to 2.3.4,but he hasnt heard of a recall. He said the netflix app should be working again within 3-6 weeks from the update.
Any word why the update has been recalled. Evrythings been workin for me,xcept when using talk-to-text for sms msgs. It seems almost as stable as the final 2.2 update. The first 2.2 froyo version on the evo had mor bigs/glitches than the current 2.3.3 update. It would be nice if they reissued/resent a new GB update making the talk-to-text work perfect again. It works most the time,& wen it does work its faster & more accurate than before on 2.2, but every now & then i hav to yell, but turning off fast-boot & a simple off/on reset evry mornin & my evo runs good on 2.3.3. Id just like to know why the recall. So if someone still running froyo tries to update OTA that the update has been pulled,& it wont update?.Its no longer available then?
i have the same thing lbcary.. running GB 2.3.3 with s-off, gingerbreak doesnt work on my evo.. i could go back to 2.2 but i dont wont too.. and i have a mac not a pc.. but im using a pc to run autoroot but there is no update for autoroot yet.. is there anyway to root my evo when i already have s-off on the 2.3.3 GB?

The two guys running gingerbread with s-off. Roll back to 2.2, root and install custom recovery ( clockworkmod) and then install the rooted stock 2.3rom through clockwork mod. It is the same as ota update, but rooted already.
And in the future just wait a couple of hours,a rooted version of an ota update is ussally available same day. Just install the zip like any other rom and if you are going from a stock rom to stock rom you dont have to wipe data, I have done it that way each time and never had a problem, just wipe cache.

Oops I didn't read that, currently there aren't any kernels for 2.3.4 that are overclockable, not until the source is released. If you want to over clock you'll need a 2.3.3.ROM and kernel.
Does anyone know of a kernal that will overclock or a ROM that will with updated EVO 3d unlocked rooted with stock OS 2.3.4? If you do I will donate. Also is there a hack that I can install for EVO hotspot built in. I have it on my EVO4g but not evo3d

A even if you find one, you won't be able to flash it as HTC's (im assuming thats the one you used as you are 2.3.4) unlock method is half done and only lets you flash roms and other things, but not a kernel. This has been confirmed in other threads. So, like me, you're screwed if you want to overclock until a new revolutionary is released.

[Q] Flashing Kernels after Using HTC Unlock Method???

I unlocked the bootloader and rooted yesterday, because as a Mac owner, I got tired of there being few rooting solutions for the platform (didnt want to install Linux, or Bootcamp/Parallels for Windows, etc.).
Now, I really like a few of the roms that I got a chance to download and play with, but realized 4g, Wifi, and camera aren't working. I need to find a solution but it seems like flashing the appropriate kernels would be the only one.
Im just trying to start a discussion to remedy this problem because I'm sure I'm no the only one having it.

No, you cannot. I has been proved by him, me and others. Even using a modified 2.3.4 original from the OTA (just the sprint spyware removed) it won't flash at all. Look at his post. I tried that too and samething. Only thing that the official HTC unlock (with S-ON) is letting us do is flash a recovery and flash roms. thats it.

So what you're saying is; Once the source for the 2.3.4 RUU has been released, someone will eventually tweak it so that people who OTA updated/used the HTC unlock method will be able to flash kernels.

You're saying a modified stock kernel to remove the spyware will not flash correct?
Sorry but why would you want to root using their method? I rooted my 3d, in 15 min, a month before they released their method (which requires a contract be signed.)
I have to admit that I rushed a bit. I also got the phone the day that HTC released their method. I thought to myself - well this is supported by the manufacturer, so it must be legit, and relatively safe, (even with the void your warranty warnings - that's standard issue when you're fiddling with your stuff), because who wants the backlash of thousands of pissed off customers?
But it is what it is

wow, two confirmations kernels can be flashed using the official htc unlock method via the bootloader and fastboot! looks like with the official htc unlock method, write access to the boot partition (where kernel is stored) is only granted while the bootloader is in fastboot usb mode, not in normal or recovery android mode?
interesting ....

Yeah. I've looked all over and still haven't been able to figure out how to flash kernels on a mac after using HTC's unlock method. I thought no kernels would work anyways, since the 2.3.4 source hasn't been released yet

Ok, silly questions, unlocked, s-off now ready to flash

Ok I'm all set now, I got everything flashed, but now I sill have question.
I started with the ENG H boot then I wen to the safer hacked one.
I'm looking for ROMS now and they have a PH98IMG file. Is that the kernel or updated firmware? I wouldn't want to flash different firmware right?
also what about the old firmware patch for ICS roms?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1614180
Do I need to be using that as Im still on the GM H boot?
and finally what about mainver errors? since Im s off will that still warn me?
I just want to be careful not to do anything I shouldn't now that most of the safety nets are gone.
Also sorry of my questions are silly, its late at work and I've been starting at this screen all day. Its time to go.
thanks

ROMs generally will never have firmware present unless it specifically states otherwise (perhaps somebody will release one after an OTA if there's a new firmware update). Prior to last week, we all had S-ON (well most of us) so all ROMs came with a script that would dump the boot.img (kernel and RAMdisk) into a PH98IMG.zip, then reboot to bootloader so you can flash it.
Use the old firmware patch for ICS ROMs only if you are on HBOOT 2.11 or lower.
I'm not sure about mainver issues... I don't think they matter now... but if you do get that error there's a simple fix thats been around for awhile.
I am on 2.11 so I would need the patch. Is it ok to use even it I'm not on am ics Rom, should I flash it just in case or wait until I need it.
Yeah I was kinda thinking the same thing about the mainver. Not sure either though

The patch is apart of the system so you only flash it when you are going to run a ics Rom based on the ics firmware. You already have the patch files in the Rom you are running if its GB. But when you flash a new Rom the system is wiped which is why you need to flash the patch. I hope I explained that ok.

I understand, its ok. You right though dont know what I was thinking, of course the system gets wiped.
Im debating which ROM to run now. I was going to go with one of the BAMFs, but I also would mind a senseless ROM either.
Is it wrong that I actually kinda like Sense, I just wish it didnt bog the phone at times.
Also I thinking its probably best to say on the 2.11 firmware, that way I can still run GB if I want and go to ICS ROMS too if I want with the patch.
I like sense too especially since this is my first HTC phone so its something different for me. I had Motorola's in the past. I'm on GB firmware with the eng hboot and running ics Clean Rom.
Sent from my HTC Vigor
Well Sense is certainly an upgrade for me from TouchWiz....I miss a few things but overall it is better...
I think you would be happy with CleanROM, extremely fast and reliable ICS build. You would never know it wasn't stock.
