I've searched around and can't seem to find the solution.
I'm on WB5 w/ Doomkernel and I want to go back to 2.1, and try a fresh reinstall of everything, including unlocking my bootloader (which I also don't know how to do, since I'm using doomkernel for locked bootloaders and there's one for unlocked, and I don't want to mess up anything).
Thanks to any who answer

You can't flash a whole stock rom with xRecovery, since you can't flash kernels and basebands through it.
You should use flashtool to downgrade your phone.

Alright, I'll try it on the weekend. Thanks for the replies

Im on the new WB 5.00c and want to downgrade to 2.1.A.0.435 Global Generic ROM - Root / JIT v2 / xRecovery - Working WiFi (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=936462)
it also includes a base band. Should I downgrade from the current 71 based one, after i flash the rom listed? I am as little unsure as I have always upgraded upwards. Was not sure if there was an incompatibility. I should know this by now as I have flashed many roms with xrec and flashtool also. My whole intention is to unlock the bootloader. I dont mind a full down grade since I have found 2 major issues with the wb rom, and may or may not upgrade back to it. Just need a reassurance is all.

Whenever you flash a firmware either upgrading or downgrading, just make sure that you flash the proper/compatible baseband and kernel files. These are generally provided with the firmware in the form of .tft file or the proper kernel is mentioned in the post itself!!
Here is a list of all the firmwares!!
Simply flash using Flashtool. Link is mentioned in the post itself!!
Edit: you can try the firmware mentioned in the link. Just remember to flash the Firmware files using flashtool as mentioned!!

kLouD
Thanks always helps to have reassurances!

First, why do people keep posting questions to the dev section?!
Second, use flashtool to revert to stock firmware and start over.
First of all, wrong thread and second, wrong site. Ask in modaco site.
Rom is not using xrevovery03. And in kernel is xrecovery03.
Wondering if you are on baseband 71 and did you flash cm7 kernel by mistake.

Why modaco? The problem is not the ROM, as I'm currently using my phone to post this. The issue only came up after flashing the kernel.

Trips Roms are not compatible with custom kernels as he has stated before. you cant flash a custom kernel unless you have an unlocked bootloader (even then i'm not so sure). it stuffs the Recovery. Trips rom doesnt use Xrec 0.3. as a previous post stated you'll have to restore back to official 2.3.3 and re-root reinstall xrec and reinstall rom.

Hmm ok. So I need to flash the global generic 2.3.3 ftf and then do the downgrade / upgrade method? Then I can reinstall xrec and the rom?

Kernel will work. I tried an it worked. I do not what went wrong.
But use xrecovery03 before you flash kernel. Use flash tool GBready to get xrecovery03. You will reconize it by the logo of Z
woah! Don't start again with flashing 2.3 rom, it's unneccessary! you can manually copy/paste the needed files to the rom with a file manager and set the permissions right. But I would recommend you to unlock your bl, flash dooms stock 2.3.3 kernel for unlocked bl's and then the v04b kernel for locked bl's with recovery.
Why? Simple: using dooms stock 2.3.3 kernel means you can't loose xrecovery again, even if you format system partition and reboot you can enter xercoery again, cause it's included in the kernel. Also you can remove then the xrecovery.tar from your system partition cause it's not needed anymore.

This tread should be in Q&A not in DEV.
Anyway do U have bootloader unlocked?
That rom is a 2.3 rom and you need to have and unlocked bootloader. You need to have 2.3 on your device first which would you would find in my signature below. So skip through the tread and find 2.3 Download it and flash it and try the rom again.
Sent from my X10i
Dude u r in 2.1 now. It has a baseband of .49 or .54. GB needs a baseband of .71. So the only option is first u download a pre-rooted firmware image and flash it via flashtool. U will boot into GB. Then unlock bootloader using Laser's method and install custom kernel like DoomKernel.
Follow this method
[RECOVERY image] {v2} X10 GB 3.0.1.G.0.75 [Prerooted + Fixed xRecovery] to insatll the prerooted firmware using flashtool.
Unlock bootloader using this steps from
[HOW-TO]UNLOCK bootloader for X10
Then flash DoomKernel from this link
[KERNEL][X10] DooMKernel [UNLOCKED BOOTLOADERS]{Rel:v06}[Dt:10/Jan][FW3.0.1.G.0.75] and boot up into stock rom or the previous GB rom u r using.
For Stock based roms, DoomKernel is simply the best.
For CM7 based roms, use FXP 130 kernel provided here FXP 130 and
For CM9 based roms, use FXP 132 kernel for better performance which u can download in FXP CM9 Thread.

but i dont know wich kernel to install
i will write here what i did
so other can have an easy install
thanks to brenty108 for the help
If that rom is in ftf format
Open with 7zip or winrar
Look for kernel.sin
And place it in a folder
In flashtool create kernel
Point it to the folder containing kernel.sin
You should then be able to place your created kernel into firmware folder and flash it
I haven't had much experience with those roms so it's just a suggestion

hey friend, you have downloaded the xperia s ics by vassishta but you dont know what kernel to be used?, dont be so lazy reading all the stuff in that thread (i mean xperia s ics), fxp 132 kernel is included there and instructions on how to flash the rom, hope i helped you, please press thanks button for me, pressing it is just an easy thing.. cheers.. :good:
I recently updated my friend's X10 to 2.3.3 (she was still on 2.1 - amazing).
I went forth and unlocked the boot loader and rooted the device - no issues at all.
Now I guess I simply wanted too much. Intrigued by all the ICS ROMs lying around here I finally decided to try one.
Good so I read a few howtos, and figured I needed to flash a new kernel before I flash a new rom. First things first, right?
So I flash feralab's v4.5 kernel as it seemed to be in a stable state. The next step would have been to install Vashida Reddys 003 ROM but I didn't get that far. Flashtool told me the kernel flash was successful... unfortunately the phone didn't boot anymore. Or only until the green Sony Ericsson logo
Desperately I downloaded SEUS and went back to stock.
What is it I did wrong? :-/

okay.. I'll give it another shot. If you are new to all this all these colorful threads with hundreds of posts to read are quite a chaos you know
If you take that rom, you need that kernel and afterwards you need these fixes and gapps and this shiny addon pack etc. etc. Oh well anything else would be too easy
do I use fastboot mode or flashmode to flash a kernel .ftf file?
Edit: Found another thread. The information there was inconclusive but apparently flashmode is the right choice.
Fun Fact. In Fera's V4 ROM the English installer says: Thanks for choosing feralabs or something similar. However the German translation says "You will regret choosing feralabs". I hope I don't

So did everything work out? If your friend wants all features working on her phone I suggest you stick to gingerbread. DonutHD stock gingerbread is a really nice fast and most importantly stable on. You could find it in the development section.
Ps. You need to be on stock kernel so you should flash 2.3.3 again(if not already done) and root and go from there. Do this if your a good friend ics for x10 us just not there yet. Give my regards.

No you can't install a custom ROM without root access...
First root your phone and then flash the custom ROM
PS- instead of downgrading to GB...
You can flash a pre rooted Kernel via flashtool to ROOT your phone...
It will automatically install the recovery too...
For more details about flashing Kernel look in the guides in stickies section

I saw this ROM -----> http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z2/development/rom-z2-264-stock-rooted-deodexed-t3276227

You don't need to root, but you do need to unlock your boot loader to be able to flash anything that isn't flashed with Sony's own tools and have their signatures.
You migt need to load a different recovery (i.e. twrp or cwm). I can't say for sure.
dont forget to save drm keys first..... I really miss the sony camera, i didnt save the keys and now the camera performance is not as good as before. Tbh u will prefer the stock more.

Follow this instructions
First download 23.1.A.1.28 ftf and flash it using flashtool. Or download any kitkat ftf and flash it via flashtool. Then root it and install NUT dual recovery. Then move the rom u want to flash to ur phone and enter recovery. Wipe data factory reset and flash rom. Then reboot.. Thats it. U don't need to unlock ur bootloader..
If u don't know how to downgrade u can simply see a YouTube video. There is lot of tutorials available in xda or YouTubes.
U can't root 5.1.1 directly if u are on a LB. So follow my method and enjoy a stock deodexed rom..

Here is a rooting method
