Is there a consensus on which radio is best?? - HTC EVO 3D

I tried stock, and there were tons of dropped calls. Then I tried 0808 (the latest radio) and people kept asking me to repeat myself! very annoying. No dropped calls though.
I am now about to try the prerelease (0513) which I have heard good things about.
Anyway, is there a consensus as to which works best overall?

I personally love .0518 that one has been the best for me data speed and signal wise. But it really is a person to person phone to phone thing.

Under software information in About Phone.
It can be found in a sticky in the Android Development section if you are looking for the actual .img's

513 effin' slaughters all other radios data speeds, has the same apparent signal strength as stock (all others are worse for me) but I think it chews through my battery. I have tested this thoroughly...YMMV of course.
513, I would never use anything else.
EDIT: tested this VERY thoroughly, repeatedly...

who has a link to the new radio

What I am wondering (rather than data speeds) is which results in better audio/call quality?
I tried 513 today too, and people seemed to hear me better, but the audio still is not stellar...(!)
Here are the radios:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1193101
P.S. I am in LA, and I have been getting the most heinous 3G speeds ever with the 3D. Ping tonight was around 800-900 ms and download speeds around 80kbps!
I tested it probably 15 times using 3 different radios.
Just switched to my Photon, and the ping is 166 ms, an download is 1306 kbps. I had called Sprint tonight and they told me it was a network issue, but it appears it is not.

A poll would probably help this thread

I agree just switched to 513 and it definitely feels way quicker!
This ain't Lucky Lager!

I'm using stock radio and sometimes I hear an "echo" of my own voice while talking on the phone. Kind of weird.

I'd like to know why they have dudes writing progressively worse radio software for these phones?!? If they are not willing to test it, then why write new versions as all?
(I do not believe the argument that every handset is different and therefore there is no way to properly test it. I have right here a Photon with STELLAR radio hardware and stellar radio software. Motorola puts out an update and there is a consensus that it actually IMPROVES the phone. Imagine that.

At work on phone so ill give the quick and dirty version:
Flashed each radio
did 5 speed tests (all on same server, known reliable)
averaged for each radio.
Same for signal strength.
Did this on multiple towers in my area (and one 50 or so miles away).
The results were surprisingly consistent aside from the coverage... But that had more to do with my own location than anything. This is only for the 3g radio. 4G testing is pointless around here. The battery life guestimation is just that.

Okay, I sold the 3d and am now using the Photon. Call quality is much improved.
Thanks for the help everyone.

[Q] Where to download legit MR1 radio (link please)? MR1 vs MR2 vs MR2.5

Hi, Im BHBMASTER (thats my real name, ill show u my drivers license if u dont believe) were on DRUGS and AIDS when they concieved me. Sorry for the lame humor.
Okay guys im not new to all this stuff, but im trying to figure what radio to download I know some roms only work with MR1 and some with MR2 or MR2.5...
MY question is Where do I download the MR1 Radio that will work with all the MR1 Roms (Especially the CyanogenMod 7.1.0 new release one)
Oh and will I brick my phone goign from MR2 to MR1?
And my second question is what is the best radio with best results, least problems(switching from 2G to 3G to 4G, etc), etc.. so overall best one for lets say CyanogenMod 7 Rom (I know this one now works with MR1 and MR2 and MR2.5), Stock Rom
(MR1 only i do believe), and BAMF Sense 3.0 (MR2 and MR 2.5)
Who ever answers this the best gets a free imaginary hooker oh and did i mention nonexistent. oh and a Fake imaginary cookie too.
Thanks a mil

To sum it up, MR1 is for froyo and MR2 and 2.5 are for gingerbread. I found MR2 to work best for me. Your experience will likely vary. You shouldn't worry too much about bricking from flashing radios I don't think it is very easy to mess it up if you follow the instructions.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
I've gone back and forth between MR2 and 2.5 and I haven't noticed much of a difference between the two. 2.5 seems to have better battery life, but takes longer to charge. Just my experience though, ymmv.

Adrynalyns radio thread has all the answers you need on.. 7 lte and. 6 cdma radio combinations. Different radio combinations worked better. It was trial and error. The main problem was that. 6 lte and. 6 cdma didn't do well with picking up eHPRD. Which is responsible for switching your network from 3g to 4g. I had better luck with a. 7 cdma and a. 6 Lte radio combination. The numbers represent the end digit in the radio version. I'm pretty sure most people started out on both. 6. Then went to. 7 when it was leaked.
402w_1 is the latest froyo radio. Not sure if its the greatest. you're best bet is to try a few combos out and see which works best for you.
Just make sure to check the MD5 sums, make a backup, and have plenty of battery before flashing anything

BUT have u tried both .7 and how did that work out for u?
I hate to ask a stupid question but i need to get 10 post so I can actually post in the correct spot a problem i'm having so forgive me. So here it goes.
But what does MR stand for in the new radios?
MR = Manufacturers Release
i have a question about radios, I flased MR2 and now I have no signal, I am in airplkane mode and it will not come out of airplane mode, I then tried MR2.5 and the same thing...should I go back to MR1 or am i S.O.L now?

[Q] 4G

I don't know if its just me but I no longer have 4G on my TB. I've been using the 704 Radio for a long time and never had issues with 4G. All of a sudden today, no matter what rom I load, I have no 4G. I did call Verizon today for some personal info and there was a recording regarding issues with devices but I forgot to get more info on it. I know I have 4G coverage in my area so idk what's going on..Can anyone Chime in and lmk what they're experiencing..Thanks
i havent had any issues with mine today, have you tried to flash a different radio? or perhaps you should try the ##778# method to turn off 4g and switch the cdma only and then revert back

Aside from the typical cliche of reminding you to put your flame suit on, has one considered that it may be location related and had you checked a local Verizon store to determine if their 4G units are experiencing like problems?
The key to basic troubleshooting is to rediscover the basic fundamentals of the obvious solutions, available to you, prior to stepping to the in-depth possibilities that may exist otherwise. - shawnathan9

Just a heads-up...radios are not included in roms. Rom threads simply state which radios they work with but it seems users think that means those roms are including the radio which is incorrect. You will need to flash a radio in bootloader (not recovery) if you want to try a different one.

I didn't mean to offend you or anything. Just a common mistake and something in the last comment made it sound like you thought they were in roms so I wanted to mention it. I suppose I read too much into it.
Try enabling Wifi for a while....then turning it off.
Every once in a while when I flash a new ROM (seems to happen more on AOSP based) it starts off in 1x, then LTE...then 3G.
Sometimes you just gotta let it settle... But I've found using WiFi, then turning it off and using the LTE on/off app (it's the same as the ##, just quicker) you can get LTE working.
Finicky....but it works...

Go back to MR2.5 704 is great in the cities, but it tightens up tolerances too much for other areas. Another issue with MR3 aka 704 is that 3G data is wicked touchy when your dealing with 96dbm and higher. MR2.5 was a release and I have good reason to believe the next radio release be it official/final or leaked will be more loose like 2.5
Again everyone's experience will very, speaking of averages here. Also
Thanks for all the feedback guys..Tried all the tricks but no go..I got 4G away from my home near work but I get here at home, No 4G. I called VZW and they verified I should have 4G in my area. I didn't wanna troubleshoot the TB w/tech support cuz it's rooted and the info they may ask for, will not be what they're expecting since am running custom rooted rom..ready5, I just loaded the 2.5 radio and No 4G still..IDK what's really going on?
approx how long ago was the last time you had 4G at your home? Did you change anything since then can can perhaps revert back to a previous backup. and just to confirm, on a fresh reboot you see absolutely no 4G at all from home

[Q] issues with eris radio. please help

i recently flashed the July ota radio (figured it might help improve signal in my new apartment). Luckily it did improve reception in low signal areas. Unfortunately areas I used to always have full 3g in are now flaky. Ill have 3g for about 5min then it will switch to 1x until I do the airplane on and off thing. Any ideas what I should do? And is it possible to flash an older radio? Thanks everyone
I apologize in advance for all the questions but they will help us get a clear background of your situation. The July OTA radio you flashed gives you 2.42.01.04.27 listed as the baseband version in settings -> about phone? What ROM are you using? What is the PRL version listed in settings -> about phone -> status?

There's also the 2.42.02.10.29 radio put out by Sprint for the HeroC last November which is compatible with the Eris. Since flashing a radio is one of the more dangerous things you can do though, I wouldn't start with this option to try and fix things.

I'd try flashing xtrsense and then do *228 options 1 and 2 before changing the radio. After doing that a clean full wipe install of your Rom of choice you should be in good shape. If you decide you want to later try a different radio I've also had the best luck with the hero radio goose mentioned.

Upgrading radio firmware never - yes, read my lips, *never* - improves signal strength issues.
It is possible that bug fixes could affect tower selection (PRL updates also), but for a given tower, the firmware revision will not change signal strength. That's just wishful thinking.
What you can do is experiment with locations within your place, and handset orientation to *slightly* improve signal, but there's only so much wiggle room available, and you will find it hard to reproduce the results. (Weak signals are more likely to be affected by multi-path effects, and the radio wavelengths involved are small - a distance of only 6 inches can be a big deal when the signal is low)
yep 4th post I checked, it was annoying me

[Q] Still stuck with 1X Data after 5 hours of work...

Hey guys,
I've been working all night to try and fix an issue I had with Cyanogen Mod. I couldn't get the GPS to work with the radio I had. So I tried flashing MR3 and I still had no GPS but had 3G / 4G / WiFi connectivity. Going back to MR2 restored GPS but I couldn't maintain data and only had 1X / WiFi.
I've messed with countless radio updates and ROMs trying to get this running again. Going to post my phone's stats:
ROM Current: BAMF Forever 1.0.5
Android Version: 2.3.4
HTC Sense Version: 3.0
Software Number: 2.11.605.0
Kernel: 2.6.35.10-ge8d3693 [email protected]
Baseband version: 1.39.00.0627r, 0.01.69.0625r
I need you guys to link me to a ROM, the more light weight the better, that has 3G / 4G, GPS, and WiFi (with tethering). That's all I require =)
If I need a specific radio, a link to that would be great. Thanks a lot.
It's not the ROM...
VZW's LTE is spotty in and out in some areas. I noticed mine first thing this morning...
There are other threads on other forums about it.
http://www.engadget.com/2011/12/21/psa-verizon-users-reporting-data-outages-across-the-us/
I laugh at how they state that 3G is working fine, while LTE isnt.
I can hardly even get 1x again.
Word is if you make a phone call you can get 3g back afterwards. Worked on the wife's bolt. Worth a shot at least

I think you're right unfortunately. I wait 3 months to try and fix my GPS and the one night I try it, Verizon's entire data network is taking a crap.
I just assumed that the 1X was a radio issue. I now have 4G connectivity but it's definitely slower than it should be. About 1.4Mbps. My buddy right next to me clocked 10.4Mbps on his brand new Nexus...
I'd still love to get a recommendation on a ROM and Radio version to run. I hate this BAMF ROM.
Different ROMs and different radios will have minimal impact on 4g speeds, if that's your reason for wanting something different.

LTE came back up in SE Michigan about 2 hours or so ago.
Upon reading the OP's next post, I tested my speed via the SpeakEasy Website's speed test, as I always do.
I don't know whether to **** or go blind, but inside my office just now I hit 22MB down and 4.5 up with 2 bars (out of 4)...I've never gotten more than 12 inside the office down...
Could be that no one is on it...could be a fluke, etc.
BAMF makes quality ROMs. I would bet it's not the ROM or the radio.
I've been using the latest radio leak found here in the developer thread.
I'm sure you already know this...but it's flashed in Bootloader, not recovery.
I'm almost 100% certain it's not the ROM...unless you got a bad download or something.

You're right. My problem is there's too many and I'm tired of looking haha. I just wanted to flash a known good ROM and radio and get this over with. Tired of tampering with my phone.
New update:
I just flashed MIUI from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1172235
and the MR3 radio from:
http://www.thunderboltforums.com/fo...151-rs-approved-guide-thunderbolt-radios.html
It's clear from the screenshot provided on the MIUI thread that the dev is using the MR3 radio which is why I chose to flash that.
But now my GPS doesn't work? Holy crap this is getting so annoying. Either my GPS works or my 4G works, I can't have both -_-
I'm trying to get my post count up without spamming the boards so I can post in the development section ;x
EDIT: Just found this link:

Believe it or not I know a few people that replaced their battery door and data/gps was fixed. Antennas are on the door...
In regards to your question about that link, it may work but remember some solutions work for some and not for others. Only real way to know is to try it...

Holy crap this might be the problem. I just installed a longer life battery that has a new back cover for the phone. I'm going to go back to stock and see what happens.
Thanks for this recommendation!

NO, T-MO KID, VKL1 or Telus does not work on i717...

I don't know why everyone is claiming that these 3 radio packages enable 3G on the i717. I've tried all 3 and twice each from different sources. I CWM the ATT radio back on it and it's returned to 2G.
I would've bought the N7000 and not taken the risk on an international sim not liking all the hackdoolery going on in my phone. Now I have that concern PLUS I'm not getting the 3G that was the deciding factor in the N7000/i717 decision.
Any thoughts? Perhaps I am missing a setting or something? All I get with the 3 non ATT radios is a little x in the greyed out signal meter /|
If you followed the directions correctly you should be getting 4G on the 1700 band. It does work because I am currently using it. Maybe your area has bad signal?
hmmm
It probably does work. The signal is 2G 5 bars, this is elevated in Manhattan, there's always good signals from all carriers. The meter reads /x| though. I tried the only available settings after installing each of the radios, GSM or GSM/LTE and perhaps one other.
I lose the IMEI with the non ATT radios. No signal. Nothing. As soon as I flash ATT it goes to 5 bars of wonderfully slow 2G...
I've finally got settings, accounts and apps installed so I might try flashing a radio again but I'm exhausted of much else.
I really don't know what could be wrong. Perhaps its the wicked humidity and the lingering high toxicity thick gaseous farts making the air heavy and my mind less clear. It really screws up my zen.

What ROM are you using with the modems? I am on OnlyOne B4 with KID ICS modem from tspx23. I'm getting 3g speeds. It makes a difference what ROM you are on because of the UCLD or UCLE based ROM. There are a lot of different modems for ICS but make sure you got the right one for the right ROM. You should at the very least get above EDGE speeds.

The radios were from xda and another site. its on stock radio now. If you could refer me to the radio I need, I'll give it a try. I'm unsure about doing it before the weekend as this caused 1 day of downtime midweek so.... I need to get busy! I'll give it a whirl this weekend unless I feel brave this evening.
The leaked sll radio or the blaze 4g found in this thread should work...I'm in NY and they work fine, just not 100% stable

You are using an UCLE3 ROM but to my knowledge, all the modems that are out are for UCLE2. I know it's troublesome, but I would suggest trying a new ROM based off of UCLE2 or even gingerbread to see if you can get a nice full speed 3g on Tmobile. That way at least you know the hardware and radio is good. I like AOKP, but for now I'm using OnlyOne B4 (B5 should be out tonight with some more Galaxy S3 goodies) See my signature.
This is Jeet92's version for ICS (works with UCLE2)

This is Tspx23's version for ICS (works with UCLE2)

......
That works much better than the stock radio.
I feel very stupid for paying $924 for that iPhone 4S 64GB factory unlocked that I had since December. It was cool getting it direct from Foxconn though.
This makes everything ok. Thank you.

There is no UCLE3 as far as I know
.....
It is UCLE3.
Whatever this variant it is, it doesn't have Japanese language support. The SIP support is also gone, I saw another poster mention that too. Its stripped of all the good stuff.
This is certainly not the CM I had on the Evo 4G.... The options on that CM were extensive to say the least. It gave one the best attempt at absolute control of every aspect of the device.
By comparison, the CM9 I have on this Note is only a slight deviation from the stock OS. I'm guessing that all the efforts at custom ROMs are getting rather diverse over the years, or perhaps this one is just not as good as the mainstream ones? I noticed how many models of Android there are as opposed to when it was just the Evo and a couple others, it's definitely had an effect...
Perhaps the best way to describe it is quality verses quantity. The collective "milk" intellect of all the dev's is no longer in the milk jug, it is now spread throughout several hundred coffee cups, very, very diluted.
Please sir, may I have some more? For the Galaxy Note i717???!!!
