Ok so here i am with a brand new Atrix in hand. I worked onone a few months ago for a friend of mine and rooted with gingerbreak and used tefnars recovery. not a problem everything worked fine.
Today, i get id of my inspire after two weeks thinking the atrix is going to be a btter device. so i go ahead and root using gingerbreak, goes through with no problem. then i install cwm with rom manager, power down my phone and i get " failed to boot, starting rsd mode."
i thought it might have been with the clockwork folder that was already on my sd card that i might have screwed something up so i deleted it, and got the atrix running again and installed rom manager and flashed clockworkagain.
low and behold. same thing happened again. i am not new to flashing roms or recoveries or playing around with devices, " this is how i get paid ", but there is something seriously wrong here.
anybody having any insight to this problem and who is gracious enough to pass it to me, it will be greatly appreciated.

+1 on locked bootloader.
Follow the instructions in the IHOPudding sticky to unlock the bootloader if you want untethered CWM and custom ROMs/kernels.
i appreciate your guys fast response. i guess im a little newer to this phone that i thought. didnt think i would have to unlock the bootloader for roms and cwm.

need to do the fastboot oem unlock step, and the phone will boot fine. If that doesnt work there is one more thing to try.
good to go. im going to chow down real quick then get into doing the bootloader. i knew there was something that i was missing when i started this endeavor and had two soft bricks like that.
i appreciate your guys help so far on guiding me on the track as it appears that i am a noob when it comes to this particular device

ok guys ran the fastboot oem unlock. and on my screen it says unlocking may void yada yada yada..... and thats it. what next? its not doing anything but sitting there. i feel like a retard with as many devices as i work on...
---------- Post added at 02:18 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:13 AM ----------
never mind. i have it figured out. i didnt type in my unique id..
first you run 'fastboot oem unlock'. That will print a unique special 'code'. Then run 'fastboot oem unlock [your code here]' and that's it.
ok. one last question for an atrix noob and i think ill be good from here and not need assistance..... hopefully.... haha
ok i have unlocked bootloader and atrix starts and runs fine. my question now is, if i install rom manager and install cwm, will i end up with the same above mentioned problems or will i finally have a working recovery?
If your bootloader is unlocked you should end up with a working recovery.
to all of you who made this a real quick process for me i greatly appreciate it. i understand reading and more reading within the forum are recommended but as you are all aware, sometimes it can be hard to locate the info without searching for hours and through many pages.
Thanks to all of and your timely responses, i am now up and running with working recovery and am ready to install my first rom.
have any recomendations on which one i should run as my first?
the new cyanogenmod is out everything is working (excpet fingerprint scanner and webtop) and is overclocked at 1.3. fastest rom i've used. if that isnt your thing, i like kenneths alien rom and theme. cant wait for miui tho.

I agree. miui is a rom that i love using on all my devices. it was setup on my xperia, inspire. i was hoping it was already available when i got the atrix a few days ago. should have researched its options a little before swapping out the inspire for it. as for cyanogen mod, im not really big on it. it really isnt my flavor. right now i have been running honey, and have checked out " the dark side."
with all the options out there, to be honest, and not to knock the devs of their work. im kinda dissapointed in the options. nothing seems to be really modified or diffeent from stock. minus the drop of blur, which i am happy about along with stock att apps.
also with these other roms that i have tried. i get fc's on almost all apps that i had to reinstall from tb or had iinstalled through side loader or adb. i cant get root explorer, torch and several others working, which really is a dissapointment to me. and i have noticed that battery drain was horrible while using honey rom and even with setcpu set to power save and cpu freq lowered to 800mhz the device became extremely hot and wouldnt charge at all. i was actually losing battery power as it was charging.

I recently purchased a rooted, and I believe an unlocked (says unlocked on startup screen) atrix for my mom.
Here's what I can tell you about it:
Android version 2.3.7
Baseband N_01.77.36P
Mod Version RedPill Hybrid V1
Build number GWk74
Now I have a few issues. The font on here is WAY too small for my mom, I'm looking for some sort of stock rom or a way to return to stock. I'm not an atrix owner, I own an unrooted SGS2. I've rooted phones before but I know nothing about this one.
Can anyone help me please with these two things? Sorry if I seem noobish, but I'd like her to have the best experience she can. And I really don't know much about these phones.
Thanks!
Oh and also, there's no google apps on the phone so I can't download another launcher :/
This is a good place to start. Should have everything you need just make sure you read all of it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154600

I ran across that earlier. I'm under the impression that using fruit cakes is where I want to head with this, but I'm not really sure where to get started. I didn't root this phone so I have absolutely no idea what version it was on before. I'm assuming it has an unlocked bootloader because it says unlocked when it's booting up.
I really don't want to brick a phone that my mom just paid for. Not to mention we got a multimedia dock with it which is unuseable with this rom

Yes fruitcakes is what you'll need to return to stock rom and can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1163009 2.36 is the latest gingerbread version released

I appreciate your help so far, I apologize I've never really used an atrix. I apologze if I ask any completely dumb questions.
So using the 2.3.6 system and boot, I'm assuming. Will these return me to stock motoblur or just stock gingerbread?
After this, will I be able to get updates if there are any?
Also, I don't really see total directions on how to flash these. I assume I can use cwm from rom manager, or do I need some other recovery?
Edit: none of the links work for those files.
whatever you do, once you use fruitcake to get to stock 2.3.4 or 2.3.6 you should probably freeze Updater using titanium backup to prevent your mom from clicking 'ok' and install any future official OTA updates.

Yes the 2.36 system and boot will install stock Atrix gingerbread with motoblur on your device. Unfortunately you won't be able to update as they will likely brick your phone. Fruitcakes are the safest way to upgrade
Rom Manager's recovery is what I use just make sure you have the latest version and backup your current rom
Forgot the links were down on the fruitcakes thread let me see if I have the files somewhere

You guys have no idea what lifesavers you are. I can't get to the market because the phone has no google apps, how do I know if I have the latest rom manager? I'm assuming it will just automatically install the latest version of cwm?
I eagerly await your fruitcake files. Thankyou!
Honestly.. I wouldn't fruitcake.
The easiest thing for you to do would be to just install a custom GB ROM. She won't have all the sluggish bloatware, and it'll be almost identical to stock. Easier, too..
Just my opinion.
I'd really rather have her on stock.
However, can you recommend a rom in case I can't find these fruitcake files? I need something stable that's going to work with the hd multimedia dock.

Personally, I don't use the GB ROMs anymore (they use entirely too many resources for my liking lol), but I've had good experiences with Aura, Alien, and Ninja.
GingerMod looks pretty solid as well - I tested it for a few minutes but had to go back to a CM based MOD due to preference.
I know the ones I've listed above all have functionality with the HDMI cable, so I assume they work with the multimedia dock, as well. I don't own one, so I've never been able to test/been interested in that functionality.
If I were in your situation, I'd download a bunch of different GB ROMs, test them all, see if any suit all of her needs - if none do, then go for stock

I'm open to downloading a few, but is there any other way to go back to stock besides fruitcake that isn't going to blow up the phone? I don't want to brick it my mom would kill me.
Saw this the other day, might be worth a look in to: [Batch/Script] MFBSR - Moto-Fastboot: Stock Restore
This looks like good information, I think I can work with this. For fear of sounding stupid, I'm sorry Ive never done this stuff with an atrix.
Can you please give me a quick step by step for this:
1. Download MFBSR.
2. Boot into fastboot.
3. Run the script.
4. Your done!
I downloaded the script, I just have no idea how to boot into fastboot and run it. I don't have any of the stuff on my computer for this phone since I wasn't the one that rooted it. I'm going to read through the whole thread, but any help you could give would be great.
EDIT: Ooh because my rom is 2.3.7 some say I shouldn't flash this and I need a fruitcake instead, which I can't find a dang download for.
ATT 4.5.140 - 2.3.6
2.3.6 System and Boot
That's the fruitcake I need if anyone knows of a working download link.
fastboot (from briefmobile's instructions)
Put your device into Fastboot mode:
– Turn off your device.
– Hold down the power button and downward volume button until you see “Fastboot” on your screen
– Push the upward volume button

If you turn the phone off, and hold the VOL down key while it's powering back on (the boot screen (moto logo with unlocked in top left corner)), you should see "fastboot" pop up underneath the "unlocked" - hit VOL up key to select fastboot - have phone connected with USB.
If you pull up a cmd prompt and nav. to the dir. where the fastboot files are (I'm assuming they came with the script), type "fastboot devices" and see if it pulls anything. You should see an id for the atrix if it's connected.

Is it safe to do this when I'm on redpill 2.3.7? Seems like downgrading might be a bad idea?
I'm not sure about going from RedPill straight to stock 2.3.4, but I know that many ROMs use different versions of android, and there are no repercussions for jumping from, say, 2.3.7 to 2.3.4. If you're worried, you could jump down to a custom ROM that uses that same version of android, and then run the script.
Alright, that seems like an alright idea. Going to go for it and I will get back to you guys. Thankyou again for the help. Messing with a phone that doesn't belong to me is rather scary.
Ok im hoping someone else has ran into this problem. I seem to be having problems flashing any roms. Im using 5.8.2.0 and always have. But it does not seem to matter what rom I flash it never flashes all the way. Example when i flash i see the white progress bar then it goes away like it decided to skip that step and then the optimizing screen then all looks good till i see i have no lock screen. apps are all crashing out of the blue. trust me im no newb to flashing been flashing mine and my family's phones for ever. When my phones started acting like this i would just hook up the cable and use a oem flash and bam i could use clockwork again. But seems i cant find that solution here. And the funny thing is i swear ive seen someone talking about the same there here a few weeks back and I cant find it. Ive cleared data cache divik hit the factory reset in clock work. Once i even tried the factory reset inside the rom oh boy funny storry lets just say that i needed the how to unbrick guide at that point option 1a lol.
So in review ... Help help help.. and oh yea help
Thanks in advance
try this thread.

Ok I tried that link and used the jermaine151_9.4.2.15.zip to flash from 5.8.2.0 and dont have crashing well not that ive seen. but the home buton highlights but does not function. the back key works but still the lock screen is no where to be seen. shows to be on in setting but i had to get to settings from the settings option in menu because when i tap the time nothing pops up still.
Well its getting worse with each flash i seem to lose more and more. now my market is missing. its like im lossing apps each time i try to flash another Rom. Is there a way to flash a rom via fastboot and skip CWM to see if CWM is the problem? maybe someone knows how to flash a rom with an unlocked bootloader via blob ?
Seriously no one has an answer? well this sucks. 550 down the tube.
This is solved using what i found out in another thread

Hello, and sorry for filling up the forums here in the Q&A. I really need some help, It is quite urgent. I am losing work, and all this stuff. I am running Amon Ra, and CleanROM 4.1
My phones keeps rebooting, randomly. Even if I remove the back cover, sim card, and SD card. I can't touch the dialer, If I do. BOOM, reboot. I will get 2 minutes to mess around, them reboot. Sometimes 2 seconds. This is very annoying. Should I flash a different Rom? GO back to complete stock? Flash this? Flash that? I need a professional answer here guys :/
Is this the first Rom you flashed? Did the problem present immediately? The more details the more we can narrow down your problem.
I have flashed countless amount of roms, this starting happening when I flashed this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1556183 Ever since, everytime I power up my phone, I get like 30 seconds of usage then bam, reboot. I tried different roms and everything, It could be a problem, I've also tried Rez Rom, Or just ICS. I have tried a battery from my T bolt and got farther, but still got rebooted on. My SD card, both external and internal are wiped, everything, I mean everything I have wiped individually in amon ra recovery. Could it be my SIM Card? It says SIM CARD IS NOT AVAILABLE, After 10 seconds I get a weak signal, then when I go to dialer, it reboots.
Did the SIM card go bad? The rom could be the culprit, but how? I have flashed 3 different roms since. (Senseless clean rom 4.0, Clean Rom 4.1, Rez Rom 3.2) What could have changed? I haven't used my phone in 6 hours or so. Should I go into verizon to get a new SIM? Should I fear that they wont service me due to my unlocked rezound? I have tried everything. My next step is to flash an old rom, to see what happens.

Holy hell, it's crazy in here tonight. There are three people with a similar issue running around right now.
You did install the new RUU right before installing this ROM? If not, your solution is right here.
If so, do it again.
If you've done it again already, give some more details as to when it started and what you did right before.

I am very sorry. How do I check the RUU Version? I don't remember flashing one before flashing that ROM. I don't really know, but does the PRL have something to do with this? I think I have accidentally messed with that by NOT being on that new RUU leak before I flashed the rom, so with that being said, the other new roms, I have to be on that new RUU ( 3.11.605.22 ) to have the rom stable, and not rebooting? Correct? Thank you for your guys help!

No prob here. Just warning you! Some of the old hands around here get tired of us noobs (I was a green horn not too long ago myself).
Boot into your bootloader, the newest HBOOT should be listed as 2.21.0000 and the date is Mar 11, 2012. If those are off, check out that link I posted. If you don't remember doing it (it's a PITA) you probably didn't do it.
No matter what though, if you can't get the phone to stop rebooting on you, you should RUU back to stock before trying anything.
When you unlock, make sure you flash the newest version of Amon Ra, because 3.14 has some issues with the new firmware.
Go slow and it'll be fine. For the record, in the instruction I sent he mentions that it may hang on the HTC screen for a couple minutes the first reboot.... it hung for almost 20 min when I did it. So don't get impatient!
Good luck.
Not trying to scold anyone here but next time read ALL the threads about it before trying to update to an RUU and 99% of these problems will just go away

Umm, if you check, the new leaked firmware usually needs to run twice. Once for the bootloader and once for basically everything else. If you are running things twice and getting bricks, you are doing something wrong.

Just want to make sure you have the process down before.you start...
Once the RUU is downloaded, you will lock the boot loader, put the renamed ruu on your SD, run the RUU from the boot loader (don't try to flash it like a rom). You will then have to unlock and reflash that new among ra.
Then rock out. Just follow that step.by step closely for the RUU. Its kind of a weird process.

Are you still stuck today?
Nope! Got my phone working as new! Updated and everything!
YOU GUYS ROCK, THANK YOU.
I had the exact same problem with my phone two days ago. You have to upgrade to the stock ICS first to update the RUU and junk, then re-flash Amon Ra, then install Cleanrom 4.0 or the dev version.
I've been having this weird problem recently.
I originally was running an AOKP JB rom for a bit, working fine with CWM recovery. I decided to go back to a rooted touchwiz with CWM. I booted up odin and flashed the SU update from rootgalaxynote.com, nothing happened. Tried again, Nothing happened. I apparently have superuser access, but no Superuser app.
So I grabbed a CWM from here and threw it through ODIN, flashed it, I held down VOL UP and VOL DOWN while it was booting, boila, CWM boots up and my flash my SU.zip.
Boot up, everything is kosher and I have root, but the problem is, every time I try to boot up recovery NOW, I get the damn 3e one that does hardly anything.
any advice on what to do? I don't like flying with no landing gear.
The stock TW rom included a script that auto installed the 3e recovery when a boot sector modification is made.
It's an annoying little perk that Sammy added into the framework.
The fix involves a boot at the proper time during the root process.
I believe the steps can be found in the super thread under the ICS root instruction threads.
Easy fix ..really annoying safety mechanism ....g
Figured as much. It's kinda hard coming from HTC, they don't seem to care what you do with your device.

I stopped buying HTC phones because of their s-on and locked bootloader policy. Samsung is by far easier to modify. Its also very hard to brick (your recovery automatically reinstalling is an example)
Anyway, for your issue, after you get the green box from Odin, you do a battery pull to interrupt that script.
Thanks ranger ...
I remembered the script, but not the process ....

My last device was the inspire 4g...and if not for the famous "random reboot" issue, I'd still be using it...
They even have android 4.2 for it ......sigh
However ...the note 1 is impressive, and I have enjoyed this device more than the past 10 combined.
Thank you in return ....g
wish i could remember the exact process but i recall the i717M had a similar issue but it was resolved by pushing a different tar or image file onto it.
I recall stumbling on it either here; http://rootgalaxynote.com/
or in xda's i717m areas. good luck.
Be careful with that site. Many have come here after they flashed GB kernel onto ICS and vice-versa.
Make sure you read carefully.
The script only affects Canadian phones that were updated OTA. Here is the link to tell you how to get around the script.

Man, I've been out of the Android loop like never before. Probably since right when kit-kat builds started hitting. Anyways, I've been running Venom for months, and just last night my phone started crashing like crazy. Every time it would turn on, just the smallest bit of interaction would make it restart. At some point I must have deleted the ROMs off my storage, because I finally got into TWRP and wiped my data. But couldn't find any ROMs, so LUCKILY I was able to flash through ADB Sideload. Thank god I set up the SDK on this new computer months ago. Anyways, I was able to flash an old SlimBean I had on my hard drive. The DNA is still having issues. Its not restarting every time I do something like last night, but close to it. Any time I get a phone call, I'm able to pick up and talk for 5 seconds, then it restarts. Can anyone help me out here? I thought about wiping internal storage but I'm not sure what problems that will cause. I'm still on JB with an old version of TWRP. The phone is not messing up while in recovery, so I was thinking about flashing new version of TWRP and installing a newer ROM. I don't know if that will help, anyone got any ideas?
ALSO, I no longer have insurance on my device and my screen is cracked. However, it has been less than 12 months since I purchased, so I may still have the one-year warranty, but unless I could get back to stock really easy, I doubt I could pass it off for a warranty replacement.
Does anyone know how I can get fastboot to work? I don't mean in general, I have never had a problem really using fastboot, but when I get into fastboot and check with devices, I'm returning nothing, and I want to flash a new recovery. I know on some ROMs there is a way to turn fastboot on and off, but I'm not seeing anything in this ROM (slimbean-dlx)
Also, just now updating this, but adb won't return a device ID either. I'm not sure why. I believe in recovery it recognizes the device. it did last night. that's how I was able to flash a ROM

I would suggest ruu the device back to stock and then try. But I never get my device to show in fastboot and I send recoveries to it all the time. So just flash one at and if it goes you should be able to boot into it and then flash rom.

thanks I'll try it. Even though it wouldn't show my device in fastboot yesterday, i tried flashing the newest TWRP but it didn't do anything. However, the phone has become somewhat stable. It is still rebooting on phone calls, and the UI is REALLY weird. I've never seen it before, the entire UI is really small and zoomed out. Everything operates like normal, but EVERYTHING is about 1/10 the size its supposed to be. I've flashed two different old ROMs and re-flashed the one I am using now (Beanstalk)

Hopefully performing the ruu will fix that. Sounds like a system file may have become corrupted.

I have never had to RUU before. The DNA was my first HTC since Eris, and I've never really messed up to the point of RUU'ing. Should I just download the most recent RUU and run that? Or would I need to flash anything else with it? such as hboot or recovery?? I have the 3.06 radio/recovery/hboot's downloaded. my brain still operates in samsung and moto modes. I have only managed to irreversibly brick one device out of at least 30 and I would not want that to be my daily driver
Maybe the cracked screen is messing with the digitizer and then causes ROM havoc?

What Windows version are you using?
maybe, I mean, the screen has been cracked for at least 8 months. I'm using 8.1. unfortunately. I didn't realize when I bought this computer how hard it would be for me to get back to Ubuntu which is my preferred. It is so much easier to do anything with Android on Ubuntu IMO.
Am I correct in reading a comment somewhere that Fastboot drivers don't work on Windows 8.1??? Does this mean I can't RUU?
I think there's some way to get it working on Windows 8, but you would have to search. Most people just find a W7 computer and get it done.
