I was using barnacle wifi tether just fine before the update. now, post OTA update, and re-root, barnacle doesn't work.
It doesn't complain that it can't work. It just doesn't show any wireless available like it used to. Even trying to connect to a hidden hotspot doesn't work.
I've spent a while this evening googling and searching here, but I've not turned up anything.
I've also tried android-wifi-tether. same symptom. looks like it's working, no SSID broadcast, no hidden hotspot connection.

Have you tried reinstalling it, or PDAnet from market. That's a nice tethering app too.

I have recently rooted my droid Eris that was on 2.1 via OTA. I then dropped the Vanilla Rom on top of it. i used Wireless tethering for 1st time today and the WEP function wasnt working as other computers connected to it. Any idea why not working, also now it keeps hanging on starting/stopping when turning tethering. finally when I turn on Access Control I get Force close issues.
I believe there is a known bug with trying to enable WEP with Wireless Tether for Root. I would say just disable WEP (i dont know if you have to uninstall/reinstall) and just turn on Access Control.
Use the access control to specify which MAC addresses can connect to the access point.
Ok, thanks I will try that out.
coudlnt get it working with WEP either. but disabled, everything runs fine. drains the battery and sets it on fire tho! just a minute ago it got up to 47.8 C
just received my A70, installed GApps and a few programs through the file viewer after transferring via USB.
Then, I wanted to download a few apps from the market...
I got Barnacle setup on my X10, and my laptops can both see the new WiFi network created by it, but the Archos can't
Has anyone tethered using this method before?
If so, I think I am using the wrong channel to connect, but can anyone advise which WiFi channel the A70 would require??
I can pick up other WiFi networks, but can't actually connect to them due to restrictions on the routers (I'm at work, they require MAC addresses and for some reason wont let me add this to the network )
Try any channel below 11. It's a known kernel issue.
if it creates an AD-HOC connection, then that's the issue.
Aha, yes it does. Damn
I'll have to try the proper tethering method then using the cell phone tether option (which I briefly tried but failed to connect through bluetooth)
Try "Wireless Tether for root users" with it's bluetooth option. Works for me Have the tether activated on the phone while pairing it with the Archos though.
I have a fascinate, rooted with Cyanoganmod that I've been using as a wifi hotspot for some time. I have a Dell laptop that I connected with it regularly. For some reason, when I try to use my new Gtab, the ad-hoc wifi doesn't show up. It does for other devices but not the Gtab. I have that rooted with Gtabcomb and tried a friends Gtab with Gtabcomb..same issue. Could it be Gtabcomb not allowing me to attach to ad-hoc wireless networks? I did try a fix someone posted up here for Barnacle but that didn't work.
Thanks,
Did you try entering the ad-hoc info manually? I had to do that on my tab running VegaN 5.1 because it wouldn't "find" the ad-hoc network. Once I added it manually it connected right up.
Joe
weird. i can tether via barnacle with no problems from my facinate to my gtab with no issues.
No I tried setting it manually but I get "not in range". Tried darn near every setting I can think of in Barnacle an another wifi app to no avail. UGH!!!
brad08stanggt, what ROM are you using?
Many times when using barnacle, it will seemingly reset the connection and drop all existing clients, re-initialize the ad-hoc, etc. Is there a way to prevent this? It can be pretty annoying at times.
I dont have this prob with Wireless Tether (or wifi tether, whatever they want to call it now), and its a free app.
Is the phone getting really hot?
If so try to keep it cool.
Use latest version of WiFi Tether. Your problems will go away. From testing I did myself I found I was getting more bandwidth with this than Barnacle also.
I am trying to get Barnacle or Wifi Tether to work on my LGOG. My laptop will recognize it but it cannot connect to either one. I have previously used my Motorola Atrix 4G to tether with the laptop without any problems so I think the issue is with the phone.
Has anyone been able to get this working with either these or some other tether? I am stock and rooted.
Thanks
You could give this a try, it is cwm tether. It claims to hide your tethering, so att won't hassle you.

Wifi tether works. You have to change device profile to SGS3.
Can't take credit...found in the regular Optimus G section
Well, I couldn't find the clockworkmod tether to download but Wifi Tether did work as an SGS3. I tried Barnacle set as a Samsung device but it didn't work.
But with Wifi Tether I am set. Thanks,
