i have not found any way, i have downloaded launcher pro, (free version available) and that allows portrait home screen, also the ability to hide the notification bar, and afew other tweeks, the apps draw can also be viwd in portrait, but strangly the dial pad stays in landscape.
if you want me to i can upload a few pics for you, please note i also have beautiful widgets (sense like) clock on my home screen.
When I used default launcher one time I somehow got it to portrait but when I tried again it didn't worked...
I had some app force close when it happened...
@ghosty_uk thanks for the suggestion I already instaled LauncherPro but there's something about it I don't like. Anyway it's not a big deal.
thanks.

When using my Archos 70, I find out that the screen orientation is somehow strange.
1st - I like to use it in portrait. However, I cannot make the screen 'lock' to portrait orientation. The 'lock' feature only supports landscape orientation
2nd - Even in portrait mode, when using some apps, the orientation is inverted (such as z4root). Seems Archos makes the default portrait position to be like 'power button at the bottom and the USB at the top). However..... I think most of you will agree that we all like the power button AT THE TOP.
So, is there a way to fix the orientation (default) to portrait, with power button at the top?
Thanks for your help.
1. Yes lock is Landscape, that has to do with the stand.
2. This has to do with the way android works. Normaly view is stopped and started again with the new orientation by the os. But the developer can tell Android that it handöes this switch itself and then the app is responsible for thee switching.
So there is no way atm to change this.
Whenever I use an application (on my A101) that only works in portrait mode, the power button is always at the top.
So far I have tried with Twonky and z4root.
edit: oh, and I believe some of the launchers available will let you lock screen in portrait mode ... try Launcher Pro or ADW
Is there a way to keep my dell streak in portrait all of the time without rotating to landscape?
Go into Settings and untick AutoRotate

Sorry misread the post thaught it was landscape he wanted
Portrait for whole system
Hi,
I've been seeing the forum threads for portrait mode on the Dell Streak but all have just options for the launcher reorientation.
I have currently locked the system to landscape only since its extremely bothersome when the system is on auto rotate and it rotates by 180 degrees. However even with this, there are apps like Astrid tasks, etc which have some of their screens in portrait - which is a bit irritating...
With the landscape mode its not possible to try an operate the device with one hand. In the portrait mode it is a bit more easier to reach with the thumb across the screen to the opposite side corners and by sliding the hand down the entire screen can be accessed with a single hand when you have to.
Is there some mode where the full system can be made completely in portrait? Of course its understandable that select apps like Klondike, etc will run only on their default landscape mode but is there nothing that can be done for the rest of the system? Something that can probably just be included as a command in the install.txt file for Streakdroid packages perhaps?
I run Streakdroid 1.9.0 and love the new Stage UI. Not particularly impressed with ADW or LauncherPro.
Thanks in advance.
When ever I turn my phone horizontally while on the homescreens it doesn't turn into landscape mode (I already made sure that in settings-display the "auto-rotate screen" option is marked). The weird thing is that is does auto-rotate if I'm not on the home screens (say, if I'm on the web, or checking out a photo, or on the market, etc).
Any thoughts?
double post
The launcher is not compatible with landscape, would be my first thought. Try a different launcher (Go Launcher rotates, if set to do so in its own preferences).
Silly me. I had selected the option on the SGS2's settings but not on the launcher. Thanks! Everything is working now.

Are you using TouchWiz? I don't use it myself, and I'm just curious for future reference.
I have had the Dell Streak with a 5” 480x800 screen for 2 years and love the form factor. Today I moved to the ATT Samsun Note. Thanks to these forums it is rooted.
On my Dell streak the entire phone was always in landscape mode. The lock screen was landscape, when you went to settings in apps they were always landscape. Is there a way to force the Samsung Note to do this?
I installed an app called Rotation App and it helps a lot but after a couple of hours it resorts back to portrait. With that app the lock screen is always portrait.
Does anyone have any idea on changing this? Again it is rooted and I will edit files like build.prop to make the change. I just do not know what to look for.
You can force it with an alternate launcher like GoLauncher, ADW or Launcher Pro. If you were like me with your streak, you were probably running an alternate launcher anyways so it shouldn't be any different (unless you were still on 1.6 or you actually liked StageUI).
TouchWiz won't do it unfortunately.
I do run alternative launcher called Zeam that works in landscape or portrait. Every time I unlock the phone it has rotate the screen to show the Zeam Launcher. Using ‘Rotation App’ it forces the default launcher to go into landscape mode. For some reason the settings only last a couple of hours then the phone goes back and both launchers are portrait.
It seems like on the Dell Streak it of forced in landscape all the time.
I installed Widget Locker that can force the lock screen to landscape. It seems to be working nice now. It has a ICS theme for the landscape unlocker. It looks good.
Hello,
I am using Go Launcher on Galaxy Note and it appears to redraw/reload all widgets and icons on the home screen if I rotate the screen i.e while going from Landscape to Potrait Mode and vice versa , all widgets/icons reload.
While rotating applications , this does not happen.
Anybody having this issue with Go Launcher?

Yes, Same issue with me (HTC salsa).
Generally I am not using landscape mode. I always uses portrait mode.
If you want disable Landscape mode, then download Smart Rotator and set Go launcher as Portrait. Which will not rotate your home screen if you interested so.
Hi.
This is not a problem. It is natural to happen.
It has to do with devise display resolution.
My resolution is 540 x 960 pixels in Evo 3D so when i fleep the divise,
the resolution changes is 960 x 540 so the Go Launchers have to rearange the widgets and the icons to adapt and fit to the new resolution.
