So I changed my lcd density to 220 and I really liked that but some apps in the market wouldn't let me download them... So I set it back to normal and its fine but I want the value to be 220 and have my market work. I used ROM toolkit to change my lcd density if that makes a difference.

Are u talking about "root tool" or "rom toolkit"
Im just warning that romtoolkit has been known to cause major problems I believe.
Does romtoolkit say X2 supported? If not get rid of it.
Either way get your android ready.
Easier to change lcd density by editing build.prop using root explorer. That way u KNOW its the only thing changing.
Sorry it was rom toolbox got the app name wrong. So are you saying that if I manually edit it I shouldn't have that problem?

NO DO NOT USE ROM TOOLBOX!!!!
SERIOUSLY plz quit while u r ahead
I don't know if u will have the problem if you do it manual it is just MUCH safer.
Rom TOOLBOX is not for us
And it could just be the appbis not compatible with the lower resolution ...most people raise the value and say it looks sharper (tho looks smaller) personally I like it right at default and only go as far as 20 above default.
Please trust me...there is another thread about toolbox...read that and u will see what I mean
Ok the oy thing changed as density and its back to normal now I already uninstalled romtoolbox

Would it be possible to make a script that can change the density for multiple devices? I'm no expert on this and can change the density manually in the build prop easily enough but I thought it would be neat for other users to be able to just by running the script and choosing the appropriate setting for their device.

There's actually a free app in the market that will change lcd density. It also backs your current up for easy restoration. Just go to market and search lcd density and it should come up.
Sent using my 666th Inc from remote regions of hell
I've used it before but I didn't like it because it wouldn't stick the same way changing the build prop does.
Nice work by the way CA. I've used your ROMs before and they're great.

make sure you didn't change your lcd density (resolution). If so, set it back to 240. i have my scaled back to 220 so all the text and icons are small, but the majority of apps are "incompatible" with my device. so whenever i want to download something, i have to restore back to 240 to download.
So I just thought I'd see what happens
Both done on vipers Rom
Rooted with dev unlock and twrp recovery
If anyone else tried let me know how it went
I'm at 280 no issues

I think maybe you could go higher. I'm using LCD Density Changer by Beansoft and it states that my Evo has a default density value of 320.
Edit: Wait a minute, it's default should be 312 as listed by specs since:
(1280 x 1280) + (720x 720) = 2278400
sqrt(2274800)/4.7 = 312.47
Not sure why it says 320. Maybe I'll try another app just to be certain.
Haha, I tried 160 right after I rooted, just for S&G, and got nothing but bootloops, so yeah. I wouldn't recommend trying that.
Noob alert.... What does chain the density do?
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
Essentially it makes text and everything else smaller.... Or larger based on the value you set.

Your math is right, the pixel density is 312. The default value in the stock build.prop is 320, which is what those apps are reporting.
" ro.sf.lcd_density=320" is the line in the build.prop.
Not sure why you would want to change it to something lower than that.

Ah, that would explain it. No way I'd want to go lower than default, but was hoping to go a little higher but I'm getting some kind of IO error...I'll figure it out.
If anyone is curious, I started using Blade Buddy since LCD Density Changer only supports a max value of 280.
80-270
All widgets and most apps ran from adb work fine.. but that low dpi will break sense launcher and you have to manual edit your build.prop from root explorer/adb/droid explorer to 320/312/300/280 etc
(be sure to leave a widget! or shortcut on your home screen for root explorer if no PC!)
im gonna screw around a little more with some launchers and settings cause i loved 160dpi on the OG evo
oh im on meanrom 1.7 panda s-off newest radio etc..
Highly HIGHLY recommend using lcd Modder. It's like two bucks and is the easiest way to fix your density and fix the market at the same time! For all the noobs you gotta remember to fix your market to see about half the apps out there. I always check for a specific app (pof - plenty of fish) if my market is busted it won't show up.
Running 270 flawlessly on one of the older meanroms.

Guess I'm a noob, but what are u talking about playstore being busted. I see pof just fine with no mods. U mean the resolution being lower or the build.prop edits? Bc I'd love to be able to pay for good games like max payne, but "incompatible" according to playstore.
Yes, I have it, but I can't say how I did it on xda. Pretty easy to figure out. I don't like doing the build.prop edits, feel it is there for a reason. Guess that's another topic altogether. Sorry for hijacking. Tend to link ideas in my mind that others don't always follow. Apologies.
Paranoid android ROM has individual density properties for each app.
Meaning I can run my keyboard at a certain DPI and my system at another, and then my lock screen at another. These hybrid properties have completely changed the way I look at ROMs. It also has tablet mode and hybrid modes for each individual app, very cool stuff.
Paranoid android is aosp, so that's not an option for those of you who love sense. But I thought I'd throw it out there and maybe some of you will try it.

Thanks!

Is it okay to change the razr dpi if so anyone recommend. Good Ond
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
How is that even possible?
"dpi" is generally referring to "dots per inch", a spec on printers. If he's referring to "ppi", or "pixels per inch", the spec for pixel density on a display, then no- it cannot be changed.
You need a root device and there are apps in the market for this, like dpi changer. Make sure your prepared for the worst if you pick a bad setting. Not everyone has a perfect experience.

I haven't tried it on my razr, but on my old galaxy s you could simply change it in your build.prop if you have root then reboot for it to take affect.

Lower is better right? I have it running on 200, just changed it with a file explorer (open build.prop in the system folder look for the line LCD.density) and try some settings on, google play and some apps don't work properly anymore when density is too low.
dpi lowering failed
I had no problems using LCD Monitor app to lower the dpi on my CDMA RAZR M with ICS, but when I had JB running on it all I got was an endless loop at reboot. I believe it got stuck while shutting down. I forced it and got it to boot to Safestrap but thats as far as I could go. I really do have this phone. Or should I say I hate Verizon for locking the bootloaders. Probably gonna sell it and go back to my trusty D2 and good old Froyo. NEVER had a problem. And dropped that phone hundreds of times on the pavement and it never faulted. I doubt the RAZR will be that tough

I was going to hope for a font fix first before I tried to learn how to adjust DPI. I'm not sure if there will be any unintended consequences going that route.

That works pretty well. The only down side I've seen so far it it expands the screen to just off the viewing area, like for the drag to unlock. I also hate scrolling left to right to read web pages if I try and find one on my phone, but I've grown used to that and try to stay off the internet on the phone when I can.
I do like the DPI adjustement. I'll have to play with it some more and find my ideal setting.
